00:29:17 <Ysjoelfir> Someone interested in the next pulsonix annoyance? ._.
00:33:00 <K> go on
00:33:18 <Ysjoelfir> https://snipboard.io/r0ByLJ.jpg The DRC is absolutely sure that those two GND Vias do NOT connect to the (dark blue) ground rail. What do you think? Absolutely unconnected, isn't it?
00:37:24 <Ysjoelfir> Even better: the exact same part setup appears three times on the board. Once DRC says both aren't connected, once it says everything is fine, and at the third one only the transistor is connected, the resistor not.
00:38:13 <K> it is stunned!
00:40:28 <Ysjoelfir> I don't get it. what is wrong here? ._. Also it decided that, as i accidentally clicked the "add layer" button, that it now has to have 5 layers. ever. I can't delete the unused layer since it says it is in use.
00:40:59 <K> maybe vias are connected to it
00:41:37 <Ysjoelfir> basically every THT part is, but that shouldn't make it "undeletable", should it?
00:42:51 <K> aren't vias different?\
00:43:09 <Ysjoelfir> depends. in this case... not realy, no. just smaller
01:08:13 <Ysjoelfir> I'm slooooowly loosing faith in this software...
01:08:28 <Ysjoelfir> I can't figure out why those vias don't connect
01:08:37 <rust_collector> speed up your faithloss
01:08:45 <Ysjoelfir> xD
01:08:58 <Ysjoelfir> Its weekend soon. that is helping in the accelartion.
01:09:37 <rust_collector> soon? It has been weekend for an hour and 4 minutes
01:10:00 <Ysjoelfir> so you start into the weekend on 14:05?
01:10:05 <rust_collector> yes
01:10:32 <Ysjoelfir> nice!
01:10:54 <Ysjoelfir> I could start in -10 minutes, but I guess I will stay til 16:00
01:11:23 <K> eh.
01:11:47 <K> and there am i, will have a meeting in one hour
01:12:00 <Ysjoelfir> whats your local time?^^
01:12:15 <K> 16:12
01:12:21 <rust_collector> k-time
01:12:39 <Ysjoelfir> ok, thats even worse.
01:13:56 <rust_collector> I don't like working in the normal office hours
01:15:27 <Ysjoelfir> I don't, too. That is why I enjoy having... erm... *looks up the english word*
01:15:42 <Ysjoelfir> "Flexitime"
01:15:53 <Ysjoelfir> that sounds rather cute.
01:16:59 <rust_collector> probably better than your german harsh sounding word
01:17:34 <Ysjoelfir> It would be Gleitzeit. so... yeah :)
01:17:54 <rust_collector> it either sounds like hitler, or it is 48 letters
01:18:53 <rust_collector> ok, time to get started with some work
01:19:27 <Ysjoelfir> Aaah, come on, its not that bad :) Bierdosenverpackungsgesellschaftsvorsitzendenratsversammlungsgebäude isn't a long word at all!
01:19:57 <rust_collector> no, it is just a book with no spaces
01:20:11 <Ysjoelfir> exactly.
01:23:30 <rust_collector> I miss my dso138 now. it was very nice for testing abs sensors
01:24:37 <Ysjoelfir> aaah, just grab a good old Tektronix 555, shove that onto the passenger seat and get a small inverter to run it.
01:25:05 <rust_collector> exactly
01:25:42 <Ysjoelfir> I actually did that once (ok, not with a 555, but with a 402.) for a photo.
01:26:01 <K> taking my gf to date
01:26:10 <K> title of said photo
01:26:21 <rust_collector> just put gf in the back seat, and
01:26:25 <rust_collector> oh
01:26:36 <Ysjoelfir> you are actually pretty correct K :P
01:26:53 <Ysjoelfir> That was the intention of the photo
01:26:56 <K> !
01:28:33 <Ysjoelfir> HA! found the reason for that VIA bullshit
01:29:19 <rust_collector> bullshit
01:29:26 <Ysjoelfir> exactly
01:30:29 <rust_collector> well, you can go home now, have a nice weekend
01:30:29 <Ysjoelfir> I would call a stub of a trace a... well, a stub, or a net antenna. Pulsonix calls this an unconnected net and points to the nearest via instead to the stub.
01:30:57 <Ysjoelfir> Thats what I will do right after cleaning my place for the weekend :)
01:31:10 <rust_collector> pervert
01:31:23 <Ysjoelfir> i know, pretty gros ;)

03:33:02 <rust_collector> pom pom pom
03:35:01 <Ysjoelfir> hmm?
03:35:27 <Ysjoelfir> doing nasty things while i was away?
03:35:29 <rust_collector> POM POM POM
03:35:53 <rust_collector> well, I guess, at least a bit dirty
03:36:33 <rust_collector> the wifes car has had a small oil leak for a week or two
03:36:53 <Ysjoelfir> That sounds dirty, indeed
03:37:02 <rust_collector> and it looks like it has a hole in the oil filter...........
03:37:14 <Ysjoelfir> what did your wife do to the poor car?
03:37:20 <Ysjoelfir> driving over sheeps again?
03:37:30 <rust_collector> I don't want to know
03:37:36 <rust_collector> and sheep are soft
03:37:44 <MrMobodies> and wool
03:37:48 <MrMobodies> hello
03:37:50 <rust_collector> they don't poke holes in a filter
03:37:54 <rust_collector> hey-o
03:38:50 <MrMobodies> I got my 12 static IP's but I am little tired and exhausted today
03:39:35 <Ysjoelfir> What do you need 12 static IPs for?
03:39:55 <rust_collector> age and memory issues?
03:40:29 <MrMobodies> for my experiments
03:40:35 <MrMobodies> buy some routers off ebay
03:40:39 <MrMobodies> plug em in
03:40:45 <MrMobodies> put one behind the pfsense firewall
03:40:52 <steve30> Was it expensive to get 12?
03:40:56 <MrMobodies> and resell them for a little profit or use them for something
03:41:17 <MrMobodies> first block free, second block 93p and thired block £2.50
03:41:31 <MrMobodies> and the same for the other line
03:41:34 <MrMobodies> when it gets connected
03:41:36 <steve30> nice
03:41:41 <steve30> who from?
03:41:47 <MrMobodies> XLN
03:41:59 <MrMobodies> they use Talktalks residiential network
03:42:43 <MrMobodies> someone was not happy though about it
03:42:47 <MrMobodies> but I got my way
03:42:59 <rust_collector> so... put one behind a firewall, and sell the rest?
03:44:16 <MrMobodies> HG625 (modem) -> Thomson gateway > routers (pfsense and experimting with routers) > pfsense -> other switch for routers with dhcp with two static ips through firewall
03:44:30 <MrMobodies> yes, if I wanted to
03:44:45 <MrMobodies> I'd a couple test it, works, buy more from the same seller
03:44:58 <MrMobodies> set them up, and a tunnel for a couple of weeks
03:45:05 <MrMobodies> and resell them
03:45:20 <MrMobodies> I just find it easier than port fowarding
03:45:33 <MrMobodies> just plug them in and they get a public static ip
03:45:41 <MrMobodies> and all the traffic
03:45:49 <MrMobodies> fun for me
03:45:51 <MrMobodies> as well
03:46:43 <MrMobodies> I know it might sound strange
03:46:53 <steve30> For some reason my PC has 11 public IPv6 addresses atm
03:47:01 <MrMobodies> when it's done I'll show you,
03:47:03 <MrMobodies> that's nice
03:47:09 <MrMobodies> I don't have IPV6 yet
03:47:14 <rust_collector> mmmh, yes, but strange does not have to be bad
03:47:56 <MrMobodies> well I want it... flexible and easy
03:48:34 <MrMobodies> plug in... public static ip either from Thomson gateway or a dedicated nic to switch from the pfsense firewall
03:49:01 <MrMobodies> I might want to observe traffic through these things too so that's I am having one through the firewall
03:53:24 <MrMobodies> I ordered for more fans that came https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283157647782 and this time customs got hold of it and slapped £12 import charge.
03:54:54 <rust_collector> that is their thing
03:55:55 <MrMobodies> they seem to be getting better at it
03:58:14 <MrMobodies> I couldn't find those particular types of specifications selling locally, they were in America but shipping was a lot more, so they seem to work out cheaper.
04:04:37 <rust_collector> I am trying to remember how to use mpg123, lol
04:06:37 <rust_collector> $ mpg123 Killing\ Joke\ -\ The\ Wait.mp3
04:06:54 <rust_collector> time to tidy up some file names again
04:12:01 <MrMobodies> The fastest MPEG audio play for Unix... playback should be possible even on i486 CPUs.
04:12:12 <MrMobodies> that's handy.
04:12:53 <rust_collector> there is also the mpg321
04:13:42 <rust_collector> but this thing had 123 on it, so that is ok
04:23:07 <Ampera> rust_collector, use tab completes or put filenames in quotes
04:23:33 <Ampera> so mpg123 "Killing Joke - The Wait.mp3"
04:23:48 <rust_collector> well, yes, but... I like getting rid of spaces
04:24:04 <Ampera> alright then
04:24:12 <Ampera> why are you using a cli media player anyways
04:24:29 <rust_collector> why would I use a gui mp3 player?
04:25:12 <Ampera> rust_collector, because instead of typing out your filenames you can click them with a handheld digitizing pointing device.
04:25:44 <rust_collector> well, as you said, tab complete
04:26:00 <Ampera> alright then, I ain't complaining
04:26:03 <Ampera> just curious
04:26:15 <rust_collector> Music/danzig/blahblah[tab]
04:27:24 <rust_collector> Hmm, now that you mention it, someone probably made an app, to control mpg123 from a phone
04:28:41 <rust_collector> I dunno why, it is just the way I do it some times
04:28:45 <MrMobodies> a bit like Videolanplayer
04:28:53 <MrMobodies> and the built in webserver
04:31:23 <rust_collector> I also like moc(p) and the old xmms.
04:32:39 <rust_collector> now that I am on an actual desktop, maybe I should invest in some storage space, so I can keep some stuff around
04:33:13 <MrMobodies> Never heard of it... looks good though
04:33:21 <MrMobodies> reminds me of a bit like Modplug
04:33:29 <rust_collector> xmms?
04:34:24 <MrMobodies> oh the appearance at first
04:34:30 <MrMobodies> I like this one: OpenGL Visual plugin
04:34:40 <MrMobodies> for Redhat
04:34:56 <Ampera> MrMobodies, are you using Compiz or something?
04:35:30 <MrMobodies> That'll be something I am saving when I setup some Linux and get it going
04:35:39 <Ampera> I'm confused now
04:35:57 <MrMobodies> http://www.xmms.org/download.php
04:36:07 <MrMobodies> I was looking there
04:36:35 <Ampera> huh, looks like WinAmp
04:36:41 <rust_collector> yea
04:36:54 <rust_collector> you can use winamp themes, I think
04:37:12 <Ampera> For media I use VLC, because I am uninteresting.
04:37:13 <MrMobodies> Sorry I got them confused.
04:37:14 <steve30> I always used to like XMMS
04:39:24 <Ampera> I have come to the conclusion that I am bored.
04:39:36 <Ampera> I'd go out and skateboard, but my leg is sore from it.
04:39:52 <Ampera> so I need to wait for that to set up
04:39:53 <rust_collector> meh, that is how leg works. keep using it
04:40:21 <rust_collector> legs are in general really tough
04:40:38 <Ampera> Mine aren't bad, I used to walk 3 miles to school in the morning
04:41:38 <Ampera> time to state at my steam library before finding nothing I want to actually play
04:41:39 <MrMobodies> 3 miles, thats a lot
04:41:47 <Ampera> it's alright
04:41:59 <Ampera> I could do it in about 40 minutes.
04:42:05 <Ampera> *state -> stare
04:42:06 <MrMobodies> good exercise
04:42:06 <rust_collector> who makes ok hard drives these days?
04:42:14 <Ampera> rust_collector, HGST/WD
04:42:27 <rust_collector> oh, so nothing changed then
04:42:40 <MrMobodies> Didn;t have problems with Seagate
04:42:44 <MrMobodies> naybe it is the models I chose
04:42:55 <Ampera> rust_collector, if you want cheap and decently reliable, goHardDrive sells 2, 4, & 6TB HGST refurbs for very respectable prices.
04:43:17 <Ampera> Seagate's always been the, eh I don't trust it, though it's probably fine, company.
04:43:28 <MrMobodies> I use to replace many 2.5" WD Blues
04:43:30 <Ampera> afaik they had some real whoppers of drives years ago.
04:43:32 <rust_collector> I have had horrible luck with seagate laptop drives, but the desktop ones has been ok, for my light use
04:43:57 <MrMobodies> I notice poor ventilation can be an issue
04:44:07 <MrMobodies> where the contacts on the pcb turn dark
04:45:32 <MrMobodies> I still have a couple of 2tb WD Enterprise and Seagate Constellation drives from 2010. All still working and quiet. Wwell the WD's ones seem a bit noisey.
04:45:45 <Ampera> All of my main drives are 2TB Hitatchi refurbs
04:45:59 <Ampera> one of them has gone on for years with no problems.
04:46:04 <MrMobodies> being refurbs they must be good
04:46:38 <Ampera> MrMobodies, they're all ex datacenter stock afaik.
04:46:51 <MrMobodies> yes
04:46:52 <Ampera> but they're enterprise grade, and I can get a 4TB for 60-70 bucks.
04:47:04 <MrMobodies> they dont get moved around that much.
04:47:33 <Ampera> lemme see if I can pull out SMART on these drives
04:47:33 <MrMobodies> $70 very cheap...
04:47:42 <Ampera> I'd love to know how long they've been running
04:53:14 <rust_collector> Power_On_Hours -O--CK 100 100 000 - 12040
04:53:24 <rust_collector> 12040 hours... ok
04:54:22 <Ampera> it claims 7547
04:54:27 <Ampera> for my oldest drive
04:54:37 <MrMobodies> thats double than 2tb Constellation I have here
04:55:03 <Ampera> oooh, another one is 40736
04:55:05 <MrMobodies> 60786 power on hours
04:55:19 <MrMobodies> unfortunately 9 reallocated sector counts
04:55:30 <Ampera> and another one is 7545
04:55:35 <Ampera> alright the 40736 must be the older one
04:55:53 <MrMobodies> going to look at the WD enterprise
04:56:32 <Ampera> honestly, 7500 hours? considering what I'd put into them?
04:56:38 <Ampera> these must have been brand new drives
04:56:53 <Ampera> or maybe they did some sort of sneaky resetting of the SMART
04:57:06 <MrMobodies> I had that happen to me on Ebay in 2014
04:57:10 <MrMobodies> I reported them
04:57:28 <MrMobodies> and with their negative feedback they got closed down when I showed the pictures
04:57:48 <MrMobodies> it didn't fool MHDD though
04:58:12 <MrMobodies> just didn't count the bad sectors
04:58:39 <MrMobodies> the 2tb WD Enterprise is 52181 hours
04:58:48 <MrMobodies> the other three are going to be similar
04:59:05 <MrMobodies> they came out of a Tyco CCTV recorder that kept on failing... and was given to me two years ago
04:59:32 <Ampera> I mean maybe they were brand new, and they just had some new old stock left over
04:59:38 <Ampera> I'd presume datacenters would keep drives on hand
05:00:18 <MrMobodies> it overheated inside, poor ventillation and slim the power supply wasn't enough power... it was a poor design.
05:00:45 <MrMobodies> Oh this one was from a contractor
05:00:51 <Ampera> anyways I have the 40,000 hr drive storing backup data
05:00:54 <MrMobodies> for banks and building socities
05:01:08 <MrMobodies> when it breaks down they have to go fetch and replace
05:01:31 <Ampera> No clue where my drives came from, all I care is that they seem to be solid and reliable
05:01:50 <MrMobodies> coming from a datacenter, it's unlikely to be knocked around.
05:01:57 <MrMobodies> what a bargain...
05:03:51 <MrMobodies> I'll be going for my walk soon.
05:05:16 <MrMobodies> Later on I'll continue with the KVM setup which I am close to finishing.

06:19:28 <Ysjoelfir> Why the hell does my IRC client suddenly forget how to display colors?
06:20:51 <rust_collector> did you update your colors?
06:22:08 <Ysjoelfir> nope
06:22:18 <Ysjoelfir> did work yesterday, doesn't today anymore
06:22:27 <rust_collector> what client is that?
06:22:33 <Ysjoelfir> AdiIRC
06:22:47 <rust_collector> hmm. ok, I have never heard of that one
06:23:48 <Ysjoelfir> I use it quite a while now and never had any problems, so..
06:24:05 <Ysjoelfir> tried using an other theme, that works. but actually I like my old one the most. hm.
06:24:38 <rust_collector> so, changing to a different theme, and back again does not work?
06:30:23 <Ysjoelfir> nope
06:31:54 <rust_collector> and the theme file still looks like a theme file?

06:35:03 <Ysjoelfir> meh. i guess i have to get used to an alternative theme :D
06:35:48 <rust_collector> will you go for the brown/orange/green theme, or the pink and more pink one?
06:36:30 <rust_collector> the white with light yellow text looks pretty nice
06:36:30 <Ysjoelfir> my usual one was the classic black with red/orange/green/blue nicks theme.
06:36:55 <rust_collector> yeah, but you can not have that any more
06:37:05 <Ysjoelfir> I noticed. :D
06:37:14 <rust_collector> so
06:37:36 <Ysjoelfir> lets try pink with pink. it will drive my girlfriend nuts.
06:38:07 <rust_collector> good good
06:38:59 <rust_collector> not that I know why she would be looking at your irc stuff, and I am not sure if she SHOULD look at your irc stuff
06:39:46 <Ysjoelfir> I have a dual monitor setup and streaming the second monitor to the TV - which she watches, because we tend to watch youtube together when I'm not working^^
06:40:03 <Ysjoelfir> so it is possible, depending on whether I put IRC on the main or on the secondary monitor
06:40:20 <Ysjoelfir> My eyes are startung to hurt. lets not do that pink stuff again
06:40:53 <rust_collector> ok, brown/orange/yellow/green then
06:41:10 <rust_collector> for that 70's school curtain feeling
06:42:38 <rust_collector> I had green/orange/black elephant wallpaper. I still have one elephant framed, somewhere in the attic
06:43:03 <Ysjoelfir> that sounds cool. If you come across it I would love to see a picture of it

07:49:41 <rust_collector> the thing downstairs has an i5 something, and a gtx960 or 980 I think it was. I bet it would be a fine machine, but I do not need it, and the one I use is nice and compact-ish
07:57:17 <rust_collector> just the right size to put the printer on top

08:22:35 <Ysjoelfir> that sounds like a legitimate reason :)
08:24:03 <rust_collector> I used an old asus "mediapc" sort of thing. pretty much a streaming box for the tv. And it does ok for me, but it did not want to run virtual machines, which is why I stole this thing back from the wife

09:06:24 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Retweet: Andrey Omit: I was researching 40G on FPGA and have found this gem - substrate-level direct fiber attach XVCRs. Looks like it's Avago MicroPOD part with 12x 850nm MM-fibers, 10G each, with cute ribbon cable. XCVR itself is only 7.5x7.5mm! https://t.co/Zq3SDBOvBI https://t.co/zILTcLgeXE
09:25:40 <coppice_> Avago is such a negative name for a component maker. I want a supplier that does more the just av a go
09:26:34 <rust_collector> that is the most british comment I have seen so far today

09:42:35 <rust_collector> do you have a lot of am radio stations where you are? I can get a couple channels from england, and a few from ukraine/russia or something and one french speaking one, most of the time, but only at night
09:43:30 <steve30> There's a handful of stations here
09:44:14 <rust_collector> up here, we are running out of fm radio stations. I do not know of any am at all
09:45:03 <steve30> Local BBC stations tend to have an AM version, there's Magic aka Greatest Hits, Absolute Radio or whatever its called now. Talksport, Radio 5, probably a few others.
09:45:18 <steve30> And of course we have Radio 4 on longwave
09:45:41 <rust_collector> I think I have had radio4 here
09:46:26 <steve30> I can sometimes pick up bits of french stations at night
09:46:35 <rust_collector> I wonder how much a proper-er antenna would help on a basic old radio
09:49:29 <Ysjoelfir> it would help very much :)
09:53:31 <steve30> I can barely get any AM in here due to a crappy antenna, but if I go outside its very good
09:53:58 <rust_collector> I have to go look for an am radio then..

11:40:15 <alexander> Hello Dave, long time listener/watcher. Just got one of 121gw - have issue with measuring capacitance. 100nf capacitor shows as 0.040nf. I also have BM235 for reference - it shows 00.12 which makes more sense, can you help me with this issue. I just got it last night, was very exited with the specs and tolerances.. Not sure what to do next.
11:48:08 <Ampera> alexander, I suggest you look at the EEVBlog forums or email Dave directly.

12:53:03 <coppice_> That looks familiar, although not in the strange red colour
12:55:11 <MrMobodies> Hello, just got back some hours, not good.
12:55:19 <MrMobodies> My ceiling is leaking again
12:55:48 <MrMobodies> Some boxes have water on them so I think I caught in time.
12:56:45 <MrMobodies> I thought it was the waste but no, it is a pushfit waste that they tightened up. I am going to have strip it out and start again with better quality parts.
12:58:08 <MrMobodies> I hadn't got around to tidying up the workshop for weeks as I had a feeling it might happen again.
13:01:21 <MrMobodies> That PYE radio, I came across something like that 20 years ago. When I plugged it in it smoked.
13:03:12 <coppice_> yeah, I remember someone putting Hendrix on one of those when I was a kid, and he smoked it
13:04:23 <MrMobodies> I don't suppose rifa caps were out then.
13:04:42 <coppice_> rifa caps were common in the 60s
13:05:57 <MrMobodies> It was in a schools basement. It was a small unit that opened ontop and it was lucky I covered up the smoke alarm when I was testing the equipment. I was told to bin it but I wanted to see if it worked.
13:07:23 <coppice_> It was in a friend's house just after the Woodstock album came out

13:20:46 <MrMobodies> Last night I was experimenting on some raid controllers to see how they may perform in cloning a slow WD blue drive connected to them to the primary onboard sata controller.
13:21:40 <MrMobodies> to a 1gb seagate 7200rpm drive.
13:22:10 <MrMobodies> 40gb of data out of 250gb
13:22:12 <MrMobodies> Adaptec 2610SA started at 500mb to 200mb a minute... about two hours long.
13:23:34 <MrMobodies> AMCC 9650E-2LP started at 1200mb and went down to 600mb a minute and took about an hour.
13:25:00 <MrMobodies> LSI Logic SAS 62097D2, started at about 700mb and went down to about 500mb a minute or so and took an hour and a half.
13:25:26 <DHess_US> Weird. Usually any host bus adapter will saturate a single drive.
13:25:42 <DHess_US> There shouldn't be any difference.
13:26:07 <MrMobodies> I didn't expect there to be. Oh Seagate 1tb not 1gb sorry.
13:26:21 <MrMobodies> I'll do it again and do some pictures.
13:27:01 <DHess_US> Performance for *writing* to say a RAID 5 will vary quite a lot. My Areca controller will write to a 4 drive RAID 5 as fast as the disks will allow.
13:27:19 <MrMobodies> oh yes quality, the ones with the fans on the controllers
13:27:25 <MrMobodies> Areca controllers
13:27:32 <DHess_US> But my AMCC is orders of magnitude slower under the same conditions.
13:27:40 Join: JoePublic ([email protected]) to #EEVblog
13:27:41 <MrMobodies> These are just JBOD drives I plugged in.
13:27:49 <MrMobodies> non raid.
13:27:54 <DHess_US> Right, with JBOD, the controller should saturate the drive.
13:28:08 <JoePublic> Hi
13:28:11 <MrMobodies> saturate?
13:28:12 <DHess_US> My Areca came with two heat sinks. One ahs the fan and the other does not.
13:28:31 <DHess_US> Should be able to read or write to the drives as fast as the drives will allow.
13:28:34 <DHess_US> saturate
13:29:12 <DHess_US> My Areca saturates 4 x 750GB WD Black drives at 600MB/sec
13:29:16 <MrMobodies> I would have expected, the LSI logic to be THE fastest if anything considering it is on a PCe-4x but the throughput didn't get anywhere near it
13:29:22 <MrMobodies> oh lovelly
13:30:01 <DHess_US> The LSI Logic may be a clone of the Areca. There were a number of cards including PERC which used the reference design from Intel.
13:30:02 <MrMobodies> I read they had a repuation for performance
13:30:18 <MrMobodies> it says "arm fusion mpt"
13:30:21 <MrMobodies> no heatsink
13:30:34 <coppice_> LSI Logic used LSI Logic silicon
13:30:58 <MrMobodies> I think it was a I960 cpu in there
13:31:57 <MrMobodies> not sure what speed, 66, 100 or 133 mhz considering this is one was made in 2005
13:31:58 <JoePublic> Guys, this is my first time in this chat room so pardon me if I'm coming off as too direct but I joined because I need some help
13:32:03 <coppice_> I never understood how LSI Logic got into making cards

13:33:50 <JoePublic> yeah its a lost cause at this point
13:34:05 <JoePublic> the best i've found is the LM134/234/334 which can do 1uA

13:38:17 <coppice_> leaking badly?
13:40:25 <T3sl4> we don't need to know about your prostate problems, coppice_
13:40:39 <MrMobodies> if anything is leaking it was my roof...
13:40:46 <MrMobodies> oh ceiling sorry
13:41:48 <T3sl4> both, one would hope
13:44:00 <coppice_> T3sl4: you want him to have 2 repair bills?
13:44:35 <T3sl4> not that one hopes to have a leaky roof or ceiling, but having one without the other would be perhaps more disturbing
13:45:18 <coppice_> one can have a leaky ceiling due to the plumbing that runs above it, while the roof is fine
13:45:31 <T3sl4> true
13:45:32 <MrMobodies> it will be a second repair bill but I am going to make sure they rip out and do it with the material I choose... like my old house that never leaked when I had my way.
13:46:31 <MrMobodies> It is a shower that is above my workshop racking
13:46:49 <MrMobodies> it leaked in one of the boxes that had to AT psi's in there
13:47:10 <MrMobodies> it didn't seem to get in them just on the casing.
13:47:19 <MrMobodies> AT PSU's sorry
13:48:30 <MrMobodies> also part of the flourascent light fitting.
13:49:27 <MrMobodies> I am trying to calm down with some lapsum tea. I feel all shaken up after removing stuff and putting trays under it.

22:18:17 <Megawilsound> it's all too political now..
22:19:17 <Halcyon> It doesn't help when climate activists start with their crap
22:19:46 <Megawilsound> that cult
22:22:07 <Halcyon> It seems to be a poplar bandwagon to jump on and an easy thing to blame things on these days
22:22:15 <Halcyon> *popular
22:22:25 <Megawilsound> well it was nice meeting you, I'll be back.
22:22:29 <Halcyon> Cheers
22:22:30 <Halcyon> You too mate

22:40:21 <Ysjoelfir> hi halcyon

22:43:38 <Halcyon> Heheh, I had an old machine laying around which I've sacrificed. I just want to see what it does and do some packet capturing on it
22:43:42 <Halcyon> Just for shits and giggles
22:44:48 <Ysjoelfir> could be interesting :) I started the day with some cleanup in the hobby room. or... mancave.... however you want to call it ;)
22:44:58 <Halcyon> Nice
22:45:06 <Halcyon> What do you have in there?
22:45:34 <Ysjoelfir> erm

22:53:12 <Ysjoelfir> you seem to have a pretty substancial network at home?
22:53:34 <Halcyon> Yep. I currently have 5 VLANs set up and I need a 6th
22:53:46 <Halcyon> I have a half-height rack full of stuff
22:54:01 <Ysjoelfir> yikes o.o thats very substantial. mancave entrance: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18D8Cyhd2y18ZK9KJazpnMqCVMD6bcLfE/view?usp=sharing
22:54:15 <Halcyon> Hahaha I love the lights
22:54:22 <Halcyon> Are you sure it's not a little girls room? :P
22:54:35 <Ysjoelfir> Nice, aren't they? ^.^ Yes, I am.

22:54:58 <Halcyon> Oh wow, nice
22:55:05 <Halcyon> Really neat
22:55:07 <Ysjoelfir> the poster on the wall says: "Switch now to electricity!"
22:55:24 <Halcyon> I love the racking

22:57:17 <Halcyon> It's a random poster
22:57:28 <Halcyon> I like how you have it set up, it's very cool
22:57:37 <Ysjoelfir> and the last: some more storage behind the desk with around 2000 tubes. https://drive.google.com/file/d/18IHP4XqEyMvN4wJ1xMdt5Nu7O4BlDTcX/view?usp=sharing
22:58:19 <Ysjoelfir> its actually the fourth iteration of that room. I once had four desks, basically on three walls and the one in the middle. but I ran out of storage space way to fast
22:58:44 <Ysjoelfir> also I wanted the girlfriend to join me, so I gave her some space too
23:00:12 <Halcyon> Wait, wife and a girlfriend?
23:00:27 <Ysjoelfir> but I guess It will stay like that. I especially like the small moveable mechanics workbench on the picture of the storage racks
23:00:46 <Ysjoelfir> xD We aren't married, but since we are together for so long,...
23:00:56 <Ysjoelfir> 7 years now
23:01:05 <Halcyon> Oh OK, so they are the same person?
23:01:06 <Halcyon> :P
23:01:10 <Ysjoelfir> yes^^
23:01:15 <Halcyon> Ah :)
23:09:42 <Ysjoelfir> Aooo... it'Äs time to make some tea eggs
23:32:58 <Ysjoelfir> Aaaand done. Now it has to soak.
23:37:48 <Halcyon> I got Red Star OS running in English :)
23:37:49 <Halcyon> YAY
23:39:11 <Ysjoelfir> nice :D so now you are officially corean
23:39:14 <Ysjoelfir> *korean
23:39:21 <Halcyon> Hahah :)
23:39:27 <Ysjoelfir> want a tea egg?
23:40:19 <Halcyon> What is a tea egg?
23:41:47 <Ysjoelfir> an asian speciality. basically eggs which were left to soak in a brine solution (soy sauce, sugar, salt, spices) for... 24+ hours.
23:41:54 <Ysjoelfir> very tasty and beautiful
23:42:01 <Halcyon> Hmmm sounds nice
23:42:09 <Halcyon> Are they a boiled egg?
23:42:13 <Ysjoelfir> https://www.tablefortwoblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/tea-eggs-1.jpg
23:42:14 <Ysjoelfir> yes
23:42:22 <Halcyon> So you boil them first?
23:42:53 <Ysjoelfir> they can either be boiled first or some boil them in the brine while making the brine itself. i prefer to boil the eggs to a hardness I prefer first and let it soak in cold brine.
23:43:11 <Halcyon> And what spices do you use?
23:44:36 <Ysjoelfir> I have heard that everyone uses his personal recipe. traditional recipes use cinamon, star anis, black tea and two kinds of soy sauce. I developed my own version using black and oolong tea, fenugreek, garlic, cinnamon, cumin and pepper flakes. and only one soy sauce variety
23:44:58 <Halcyon> Oh so it actually has tea in it
23:45:44 <Ysjoelfir> yes. and that is crucial in my oppinion, as it gives the egg a certain... tea flavor, haha.
23:46:05 <Halcyon> Ill have to try it
23:46:18 <Halcyon> I drink tea as well as coffee (both which I have black, no sugar)
23:47:09 <Ysjoelfir> its very easy and delicious. even though I don't like the traditional version, the star anis is way to strong there, it tastes like licqorish. which i like, but not with egg.
23:47:43 <Halcyon> Agreed
23:47:48 <Halcyon> I might add chilli to mine
23:48:16 <Halcyon> Do you get much of the soy flavour through?
23:48:31 <Ysjoelfir> that is great if all like spicy food. my girlfriend doesn't, so i reduce it to some hot pepper flakes.
23:48:42 <Ysjoelfir> yes, you get the saltiness and the umami from the soy sauce.
23:49:42 <Halcyon> I'm going to give them a try tomorrow
23:51:11 <Ysjoelfir> for a quick first try you could look at the video from "strictly dumpling" on youtube. That was the version i tried after the licqorish one and it was very good, but i like my eggs softer so I used the cold brine version.

23:57:43 <Halcyon> The cold version sounds easier
23:57:48 <Halcyon> I can just throw it in the fridge
23:57:54 <Ysjoelfir> right
23:58:14 <Ysjoelfir> but don't forget to cook the brine first for 10 minutes to get the tea going
23:58:36 <Halcyon> Yup
