00:21:38 <hsn> should i go for this or search for cheaper 100MHz

00:27:45 <K> what do you need it for?
00:28:46 <hsn> idk general .. me playing and learning ..
00:29:22 <hsn> i cant say i want somthing that will measure rf stuff .. im sure i wont afford cost of such thing
00:30:01 <hsn> probably smps design and debug in future .. im intrested to play with that stuff ..
00:30:43 <hsn> so i expect my self to do voltage spikes to it because im crap ..
00:30:46 <K> dont have one at work?
00:31:52 <hsn> yeah i do ..
00:32:17 <hsn> dont i need it at my lab here though ? i was thinking of signal generator ..
00:32:44 <hsn> chineese one 60mhz or somthing .. but would it be helpful without scope
00:32:57 <K> prolly not that much
00:33:17 <K> there are siglents with built in arbs
00:35:44 <hsn> hmm
00:36:44 <hsn> when would i need 200mhz over 100mhz u think ?
00:38:25 <hsn> https://siglentna.com/wp-content/uploads/ < lol
00:39:53 <hsn> some firmwares are there ? idk if critical or not
00:41:02 <K> depeneds on how much money you are willing to spend
00:41:56 <hsn> i mean .. on which application i would need 200mhz .. and not 100mhz
00:42:16 <hsn> or like .. "its much better to have 200mhz" ..
00:42:41 <K> 200MHz is -3dB margin
00:43:37 <K> playig with smps prolly could use 200MHz, just to see some noise and such
00:43:51 <K> but 100 would work too
00:47:39 <hsn> i see
00:57:34 <hsn> https://snipboard.io/XiyrjN.jpg
00:57:50 <hsn> Details about Siglent SDS1202X-E 200 MHz Oscilloscope 2+EXT Channels, 1 GSa/s, Serial trig/dec
01:14:15 <hsn> Looking at ebay seems like i want to buy a 2.4ghz SA .. 100$ saving everymonth ... So after 1 year ..
01:14:32 <hsn> 200$ ...
01:14:35 <hsn> I ment
01:15:14 <K> do you have a project in mind for the sa?
01:16:59 <hsn> No i just wanted to play with rf wifi and bluetooth ..
01:30:20 <hsn> Or maybe i need a " LCD SAA-2N nanovna V2.2 3 G Vector Network Analyzer VNA HF VHF UHF 50-3GHz for ble and wifi antenna stuff ..
01:30:32 <hsn> And cheaper lower sa
01:30:40 <hsn> Idk

03:48:06 <K> are the damn taxes too high?
03:48:48 <arch> i dont know. i should be getting a higher tax refund this year cuz i was outa work like 8 months last year
03:49:21 <Dmitry_Farad> how much do you pay in taxes?
03:50:24 <arch> something like 30% or so
03:53:41 <K> about the same here
03:54:24 <K> except that i do not have to actually go anywhere and fiddle, all is paid automatically
03:54:56 <hsn> K here also .. i think it doesnt matter really ..
03:55:20 <K> yeah, king has to eat
03:55:27 <hsn> Lol
03:55:37 <hsn> King doesn't worry
03:55:42 <K> as do the sick ppl and such
03:56:38 <hsn> But i mean .. u could pay 50% tax but overall u get really well paid + good govermrnt services or good social security system ..
03:57:28 <hsn> Or u could get 1% tax but u earn minimum human surviving limit
04:01:58 <hsn> Im in 5% VAT country electricity is almost free which is good

04:05:24 <hsn> rust_collector: what should i do to the plywood corners
04:05:32 <hsn> Side thickness finish ..
04:05:43 <hsn> Leave it? Or do some finishing on it
04:06:27 <rust_collector> I would probably sand the edges, and round off the corners a bit, then add whatever finish I was using on the rest of it?
04:07:22 <hsn> What finish u would do on rest of it
04:07:41 <hsn> Any "wood indoor coat" thingies?
04:09:12 <rust_collector> I would probably just use polyurethane. floor stuff. one coat, then sand everything slightly, then a coat or two more.
04:11:10 <hsn> How the hell u remember chemical names
04:11:45 <rust_collector> uhm, I can, because I don't remember anything else?
04:12:55 <rust_collector> anyway, that is ie plastic. so it will be ok if you spill your weird tea on it
04:13:29 <hsn> https://photos.app.goo.gl/T6P66ftd9gcNaY9A9
04:13:45 <hsn> I ll add supporting on bottom part
04:13:59 <rust_collector> that will work
04:15:10 <hsn> I think it ok but it cant hold my weight on it
04:15:35 <hsn> Plywood isnt really strong
04:16:26 <hsn> This was the buscuit join https://photos.app.goo.gl/SWHPMYxw5qneVTAW6
04:16:28 <rust_collector> it is pretty strong, but it can bend a lot before it breaks. Well, I guess it depends on what kind you get
04:18:10 <hsn> Idk from my feeling of it i felt its weaker than my expectations
04:18:42 <hsn> Maybe the way im bonding with self tapping screws and bracket angles isnt ideal .. meh
04:19:18 <rust_collector> not ideal, but all the weight will push the top into the legs, so it will be fine
04:21:03 <rust_collector> I guess that design will feel a bit flappy, if you try to lift on one corner. but i would think it would hold up ok when you press straight down?
04:21:54 <hsn> the middle leg isnt attached so i dont want to stress it .. more angle brackets coming later
04:22:00 <hsn> because i noticed this :
04:22:53 <hsn> https://photos.app.goo.gl/PAKkLHNjKfFLmN4X9
04:23:45 <rust_collector> it is not flat?
04:24:12 <hsn> its .. but this "space" i think wasnt there ..
04:24:23 <hsn> probably happened when i was lifting it or somthing
04:25:09 <hsn> its bending little bit
04:25:28 <hsn> so hmm i will probaby move the support to more center ..
04:27:21 <rust_collector> well, i am already too late. have a good time. flip it upside down, and stand on it when you screw it together
04:29:08 <hsn> xD
04:29:10 <hsn> fck it
04:29:17 <hsn> i can live with it
04:29:54 <hsn> when i add bottom supports .. i'll check it .. if its fixable will do ..
04:34:12 <hsn> rust_collector, im also bidding on this https://www.ebay.com/itm/224351499422?_trksid=p2471758.m4704

05:46:19 <T3sl4> yes!
05:46:29 <hsn> and actually why is it bad idea to connect the earth to human through 1M
05:46:47 <Ysjoelfir> I have a 1M in series, wouldn't want to connect my wrist to earth while fiddling with some high power circuitry
05:46:50 <hsn> T3sl4, its no "yes!" its .. "oooh yeaaa"
05:47:32 <hsn> aaaaa Ysjoelfir does it have to be "high voltage type" resistor then ?

05:49:47 <hsn> ok .. i guess it can be replaced with 2 - 500K ones .. to achieve 500V or somthing
05:49:58 <hsn> anyways .. good enough ..

07:43:14 <T3sl4> "boiling meat" = "stew meat", assorted chunks of usually tough cuts?
07:43:30 <Ysjoelfir> in that case one big lump.
07:43:43 <Ysjoelfir> that was the translation dict.cc suggested :D I'll change it
07:44:19 <T3sl4> hm, no browning of the meat, just straight into boiling?
07:45:08 <Ysjoelfir> yep, thats the classic method for the dish. you can of course brown it, but with the long boiling I doubt that it gives a big benefit.
07:45:32 <T3sl4> hm
07:46:01 <T3sl4> looks yummy, in any case ^-^

07:50:40 <T3sl4> dunno were to find lavage here, don't know what it tastes like
07:50:53 <T3sl4> i normally reach for thyme when i'm doing stew/oup
07:51:29 <T3sl4> i would of course put garlic in :>
07:53:38 <Ysjoelfir> I made it with garlic several times (in fact, the one in the pic has some in it). But its not the classic way. I like it though^^ regarding the lovage: Do you have the black liquid seasonig from Maggi over there? that was made "back in the days" from lovage extract, which is the reason we germans call that plant "Maggikraut" (= Maggi weed). You can substitute the lovage with some squirts of that. ^^
07:54:40 <T3sl4> ah hm
07:54:50 <T3sl4> think i've seen that in the soup aisle
07:55:37 <Ysjoelfir> https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggi-Würze#/media/Datei:Maggiwürze-neu.jpg that stuff.
07:56:32 <T3sl4> probably even have the same variety in the international aisle
07:57:12 <T3sl4> i always have some combination of soy, worchestershire and fish sauces, seems i'll have to add another to the list
07:57:43 <T3sl4> also, i've heard mushroom extract is a good umami source, need to try that some time
07:58:18 <Ysjoelfir> I would suggest getting one. Even though its basically pure MSG and aroma, it keeps for ages (my bottle is like.... 7 years old?) and you don't need very much to get a nice taste.
07:58:27 <Ysjoelfir> yep, shroom extract is very nice
07:58:41 <Ysjoelfir> though its expensive here, I opted for dried, shredded shrooms. thats cheaper
08:00:48 <T3sl4> i often have (whole) mushrooms on hand, too
08:01:27 <Ysjoelfir> same. I have a box of Shiitake and.... erm..... oyster mushrooms (?) in the fridge right now
08:01:45 <Ysjoelfir> I actually wanted to try one of those "grow your own shrooms" kits this year.

08:02:41 <Nick|4234> Hello
08:03:06 <T3sl4> hi
08:03:12 <Ysjoelfir> hi
08:03:40 <T3sl4> i got shiitake a while ago and didn't really notice them being much different. bit of a waste of money
08:03:56 <Nick|4234> I was directed here to ask a question about designing a custom relay, is this a good channel to ask?
08:03:59 <T3sl4> oyster aren't stocked by the local grocerystore sadly
08:04:26 <Ysjoelfir> are they so expensive over there? here they are not much more expensive than every other non-champignon
08:04:34 <T3sl4> Nick|4234: i guess. what's custom about it? can't say i've heard about making a custom one before, but maybe you can just stack up some common ones to do the job
08:05:09 <Nick|4234> I know you can get cheap relays, but I want one integrated into the same pcb as a microcontroller
08:05:12 <T3sl4> Ysjoelfir: it's probably more just because of poor selection tbh, button and portabello are the only ones they stock a lot of
08:05:39 <Nick|4234> All the people on discord are saying dont try it with mains power, but theres only one way to learn..
08:06:47 <T3sl4> what are you actually trying to do?
08:06:53 <T3sl4> switch things, i guess, but what and when and why
08:07:27 <Nick|4234> I want to create my own smart plug that I can control from my Home Assistant VM.
08:07:42 <Nick|4234> My goal was to use an ESP8266 and a relay unless there is a better solution
08:08:06 <Nick|4234> I want to be able to switch lights on and off mainly but other stuff too
08:08:46 <T3sl4> can you not find one with exactly all of that in it already, commercial, and just reprogram it?
08:09:03 <Ysjoelfir> T3sl4 I see. We usually have champignon, portobello, oyster, king oyster and shiitake and chanterelle at the grocery stores. chanterelle is much more expensive, champignon and portobello is usually 1.99 for 400g and the other ones 2.99 per 400g
08:09:22 <T3sl4> nice
08:09:49 <T3sl4> yeah that sounds about right for the mainline products, give or take eurobux and other assorted costs
08:10:03 <Nick|4234> Yeah
08:10:29 <Nick|4234> I also just want to learn how to work with mains power on pcbs though, thats one of the reasons I wanted to make my own
08:11:48 <T3sl4> well
08:12:02 <T3sl4> keep lots of distance between the lowvoltageybits and the mainsbits
08:12:23 <T3sl4> use an isolation transformer if possible, and insulate the thing so you don't slip a probe and blow stuff up
08:12:49 <T3sl4> the relay coil is isolated, you can drive that with whatever, do they have like "shields" for ESPs these days?
08:13:10 <T3sl4> if nothing else, a drive transistor can take logic level from the micro and switch the relay coil
08:13:21 <Nick|4234> Ok
08:13:35 <Nick|4234> And no shields that I know of
08:13:46 <T3sl4> just do it all from dev boards and proto junk, so you can isolate the mains part by itself and work on that separately and safely
08:14:41 <Nick|4234> Thats true
08:15:20 <Nick|4234> If I was to use a custom pcb, is there any specific rules of distances that mains power lines should be from low power lines or does it matter how big the line is?
08:15:43 <T3sl4> yes, search for clearance and creepage, and trace width calculator
08:15:59 <Nick|4234> Ok cool thanks

08:35:22 <rc666> why would you want a 2 channel scope tjese days?
08:35:26 <hsn> Yes it will be good on my wood
08:35:43 <hsn> Go 4 .. u saying?
08:35:56 <rc666> no, just asking
08:36:15 <hsn> Idk... Debugging stuff with multichannel isnt bad
08:36:43 <rc666> ok

08:37:03 <hsn> Or something
08:37:19 <rc666> so... why not 4?
08:37:37 <hsn> Because money
08:37:51 <rc666> good enough
08:38:06 <hsn> I also looking for esd mats

08:40:57 <hsn> But then shipping is 50$
08:41:29 <rc666> i bought a few opamps last night, i wonder if i will het them before summer
08:42:02 <hsn> Which bench psu should i buy
08:42:14 <rc666> aaaand, if they are what they say tjey are
08:42:54 <hsn> Im thinking if i should buy crappy smps .. and have small circuit that does current limit of cc 200mA or somthing
08:42:55 <rc666> i vote for any 2 channel one
08:43:37 <hsn> And some filter / cv and big heat sink
08:44:16 <rc666> why smps and huge heat sink?
08:45:03 <hsn> Crappy smps will have noise ..
08:45:14 <rc666> yes
08:45:39 <hsn> So regulator that takes 1v .. 1amp .. will need heat sink?

12:39:14 <MrMobodies> Hello
12:39:14 <EEVBlog> Hello there, MrMobodies!
12:39:33 <MrMobodies> The smell from the ML350 G6 is getting to me and I cleaned it up
12:39:38 <MrMobodies> it smells like oranges
12:39:45 <steve30> hi
12:41:40 <MrMobodies> oh imgur offline
12:42:10 <MrMobodies> I took out the board whihc was easy and I can't even find a cable to fit the graphics card
12:42:24 <rust_collector> that would be annoying. oranges
12:42:30 <rust_collector> but what does it taste like?
12:42:33 <MrMobodies> when I probed the molex connectors 12v and 5v they seem to beep
12:42:48 <MrMobodies> well it just tastes like dust when I got the datavac out
12:43:04 <MrMobodies> but it just smelled like oranges everytime the fan spins up
12:43:21 <rust_collector> I guess it could smell like worse things
12:43:28 <MrMobodies> it was filthy but I clean it using a sonic brush, alcohol and the datavac
12:43:44 <MrMobodies> but it doesn't smell anymore
12:44:10 <MrMobodies> There is also an option kit for the side which has an empty panel
12:45:16 <MrMobodies> a 2 slot PCI-X sliding tray that connects to one of the lots through a SAS cable
12:45:18 <MrMobodies> but £150 but customs will bring it will over something like $250
12:45:21 <MrMobodies> not worth it

12:46:50 <MrMobodies> all the fans are clean
12:47:07 <MrMobodies> some 8gb memory turned up which all seems to work, different but the timings all match
12:47:30 <MrMobodies> they're to populate the other 3 slots when the other cpu's arrive

12:49:55 <MrMobodies> very pleased I go the graphics card working through it
12:52:03 <MrMobodies> unfortunately I can't pass through any of the onboard Sata controllers even thought they do passthrough no drives seem to be detected.

13:07:14 <steve30> mmm, onions
13:07:26 <steve30> I had onion bhajis earlier. Got a couple left to warm up for tomorrow.
13:08:52 <rust_collector> ooh, that looks great
13:08:53 <MrMobodies> I had some onions yesteray with my sauages
13:09:12 <T3sl4> SAUSAGE!?
13:09:16 <T3sl4> we was talkin bout onions
13:09:53 <MrMobodies> with some mash
13:10:15 <MrMobodies> they're not battered are they?
13:10:16 <rust_collector> mash? wth? that isn't onions either
13:10:38 <rust_collector> steves seems to be. mine are not
13:10:40 <MrMobodies> you mean frying a whole onion?
13:11:05 <rust_collector> well, I do slice it up first, but yes, it is all of an onion
13:11:34 <T3sl4> fried is nice, caramelized is nice
13:11:43 <MrMobodies> oh well, the amounts I had is nothing compared to yours but that sounds nice
13:11:44 <T3sl4> did ya ever just dip a whole onion in caramel though?
13:11:51 <MrMobodies> maybe i should fry a whole onion and chop it up
13:12:05 * Ampera puts T3sl4 down, out of our misery.
13:12:12 <T3sl4> my friend
13:12:16 <T3sl4> of misery
13:12:27 <Ampera> our misery
13:12:29 <Ampera> :P
13:12:34 <T3sl4> comrade
13:12:52 <Ampera> in any reasonable society, it would be a capital offense to create, nevermind eat, a caramel onion
13:13:18 <rust_collector> so?
13:13:30 <T3sl4> https://i.imgur.com/WvinH.jpg
13:13:57 <rust_collector> is that the slav version of those baked apples?
13:14:38 <Ampera> not that I've ever had a caramel apple, but if someone gave me one of those and told me it was a caramel apple, for it to be an onion, I would beat that person to within an inch of their life
13:14:53 <T3sl4> hey, you're the one who asked for trick or treat
13:15:05 <Ampera> I haven't celebrated halloween for years
13:15:12 <Ampera> honestly, never really did
13:15:34 <rust_collector> I have not celebrated halloween much longer than you
13:15:57 <Ampera> I think I did it once when I was four, upon which I got profusely sick, and for whatever reason, that started a tradition of me being sick on halloween
13:16:00 <Ampera> just out of pure chance
13:16:36 <rust_collector> too bad it was not around christmas, so you can say you are allergic to jesus
13:17:52 <rust_collector> this was annoying, I left my phone in the car
13:17:52 <Ampera> wouldn't make sense either, as christmas isn't a christian (originally) holiday, and it's not even the supposed birth of Jesus
13:18:13 <Ampera> call your car and tell it to drive your phone to you
13:18:24 <rust_collector> i agree, but it is not what it originally was anyway
13:19:10 <T3sl4> we've lost the true meaning of festivus
13:21:58 <rust_collector> crappy beer and pork... yes
13:28:30 <T3sl4> not croppie beef and poke?
13:37:09 <MrMobodies> just had some quorn sausages and plant burgers
13:37:32 <MrMobodies> low in fat and sugar about 1 and 2g per burger
13:37:47 <MrMobodies> discovered all the salad was stake
13:37:55 <MrMobodies> *stale which is a shame
13:38:03 <MrMobodies> more will be made tomorrow
13:38:39 <MrMobodies> but the pickle idea is something I'd like to get into also I am thinking of including tomatoes with it
13:39:26 <rust_collector> pickle idea in salad?
13:42:00 <T3sl4> quorn is interesting, seems like it's not as useful as it should/could be tho?
13:43:46 <MrMobodies> I mean frying it and chopping it up with the vegetarian things and the salad

23:06:06 <steve30> Ampera, those Sonys look good. I like the steady shot that they have. If I get something new I'd be tempted to go with something like that
23:06:41 <Ampera> steve30, I was looking at the options from Panasonic and Canon, and I think one big thing sold me on the Sony's
23:06:55 <Ampera> both Panasonic and Canon /camcorders/ had one hour quoted battery lives
23:07:08 <Ampera> whereas this Sony camcorder has almost four hours of battery life while recording 4K
23:07:30 <Ampera> I mean who the hell buys a video camera, and then only expects to shoot video for an hour until their battery dies :P
23:07:33 <steve30> One hour isn't much
23:07:42 <Ampera> and it was /every/ Panasonic camera at least
23:09:16 <Ampera> maybe their professional stuff does better, but what would it have taken for them to have put better batteries on those things
23:10:10 <Ampera> I think I'm going to be quite happy with this Sony camera, and I might actually get into YouTube now since one of the main issues with making videos is now definitely solved
23:12:06 <steve30> I have a 1 hour battery for my HDV camera, but also a 3+ hour one.
23:14:03 <Ampera> I bought three spares for this camera, a proper (80$ buh) Sony one, and a couple generics
23:14:20 <Ampera> just to hedge my bets in case the generics are complete trash
23:16:10 <steve30> I watched a video review of one of those Sonys a while back showing the steady shot. I bet its good for people like me with shaky hands.
23:16:54 <steve30> Having said that, I do like the stabaliser on my Canon Xl1
23:17:39 <Ampera> I think this camera also has manual shutter speed, which would be nice if filming monitors
