I remember when working on my bachelors thesis I used a way to trim a power inductor by using its stray field, eg. winding more turns around the whole coil. worked great, but only to a very specific point: the moment you add one more winding than what fits into the opening of the iron packet the trimming starts to go into the opposite direction pretty quickly.
