01:13:18 <Lord_of_nothing_> hmm what would the custom will think if the open that parcel: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Stevia-Stevia-Powder-Pure-Stevia-Powder_571204787.html?spm=a2700.galleryofferlist.normal_offer.d_image.15ea44301iUdQ8&s=p&bypass=true who contain white powder without a label...
01:14:49 <rust_collector> you have no idea about how much white powder they send thru every day
01:16:39 <Lord_of_nothing_> *gg*
01:16:44 <Lord_of_nothing_> Thankfully no.
01:17:03 <Lord_of_nothing_> Does anyone have experience with seeds from china?

02:41:47 <T3sl4> mao you're talkin
02:55:55 <T3sl4> coppice: huh, i never thought about that before, but it makes sense. avalanche breakdown in IGBTs according to this paper i just clicked on, and i assume BJTs for the same reason, is more of a thermal effect?
02:57:24 <T3sl4> hrm, now i kinda wanna avalanche some IGBTs and see if they make nanosecond pulses ... or, at least once
03:02:26 <T3sl4> oh hey, so, i guess this is why high voltage TVSs don't exist? they stack dies, at some point

03:24:41 <rust_collector> he is really liking this information you did not link to
03:25:50 <T3sl4> really, it's not common knowledge? gosh, some people just want to watch the world learn... https://tsapps.nist.gov/publication/get_pdf.cfm?pub_id=3393
03:30:55 <coppice> T3sl4: if their interest is in breakdown effects I think they want to watch the world burn
03:31:17 <coppice> without good old avalanching we wouldn't be taking to each other

04:04:29 <coppice> T3sl4: I'm not sure what point you were trying to make. Are you talking about damage? I don't think anything about an avalanche is destructive in itself. Lots of things use controlled avalanches, like the fibre receivers with kilovolts across them. I think its only thermal effects that cause damage
04:05:03 <T3sl4> i hadn't thought of thermal effect before, seems rarely mentioned with avalanche
04:06:01 <coppice> T3sl4: but you know that controlled avalanching is something used in long life high reliability devices. Its not in itself a bad thing
04:06:29 <T3sl4> though not multilayer devices
04:06:54 <coppice> T3sl4: one of the biggest problems with a lot of engineering education is that say everything but the point of the whole presentation
04:07:50 <T3sl4> i understand the reliability impact, this doesn't need to be fatal if the peak heating doesn't cause, y'know, crystal rupture or something like that
04:08:38 <coppice> it doesn't even have to cause things like diffusional stress if you control it
04:08:48 <T3sl4> i guess i don't know if the current filament causes such rapid heating or peak energy to induce dislocations or something, that could be a wear mechanism

05:26:06 <dr00bie> Hello all! I got a box of components at a local estate auction, it is full of electronic goodies a lot of newer stuff too... one thing I got that interested me is a small panel mount ammeter with a coil for detecting amperage. Looks exactly like this, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Panel-mount-Square-shape-100A-AC-Digital-Ammeter-Amp-Meter-White-LED-display/402674745820. It is a D16-22FSA model
05:26:09 <dr00bie> with no branding. I was intrigued by it, so I wired it up to 120V, cut a power cable and installed the coil, spliced with wagos and plugged into hot rework station and turned it on. It read 0.00A, while the kill-a-watt read a value near 5A. Anyone have any experience with this type of ammeter? Does the orientation of the coil matter? Insulation? I got 2 of these, they were both still in
05:26:11 <dr00bie> the box with a generic "Ammeter WHITE" label on the top, no documentation was around.
05:28:40 <Kuschelpony> did you put the coil around the whole cable (wrong) or a single wire (right) ?
05:32:49 <rust_collector> that is secret, we can not tell you because of company policy
05:42:40 <T3sl4> dr00bie: guessing you need to put exactly one (hot or neutral) through the hole, the rest outside?

06:02:57 <rust_collector> hmm, this light bulb is too good for me. i replaced a 35 ohm resistor with a 100 ohm one, and it is exactly the same brightness, except now the socket gets hot, lol

06:05:45 <T3sl4> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
06:06:11 <rust_collector> oh well
06:07:29 <rust_collector> I guess I have to change one of those tiny resistors by the regulator... or archive the thing
06:08:18 <rust_collector> datasheet says: pin 1,2,4,7,8 not connected. that should make it easier, lol

08:51:04 <Nothing\> er oops, that's not the right link
08:51:27 <Nothing\> but if you're curious about which golfers have the most holes in one in their career, have at it with that link
08:51:27 <T3sl4> interesting
08:51:28 <Ampera> good, if people started talking about golf in here I would burn down the entire channel
08:51:51 <rust_collector> wow, that is interesting. why do people keep track of crap like that?
08:51:56 <Nothing\> T3sl4, i was responding to somebody's comment on a video about how jim jong il claimed to shoot 11 holes in one in his first game of golf ever
08:52:20 <rust_collector> and he did it with a single shot
08:52:20 <Nothing\> the guy was saying he didn't think anyone's ever gotten that many in their career, much less one round. So I wanted to see if it was true
08:52:32 <T3sl4> well obviously pga doesn't have his record, they're a bunch of infidels
08:52:35 <Nothing\> rust_collector, and without ever using the toilet lol
08:52:57 <T3sl4> rust_collector: speedrunners keep track of how bad RNG they get in some games
08:53:00 <rust_collector> well, kims dad cured cancer and aids, he is pretty good at those things
08:53:07 <Ampera> I'm not joking you people, I'm gonna make this place look like Portland night on the town
08:53:12 <Ampera> *like a
08:53:24 <Nothing\> speaking of golf though, for a minute
08:53:26 <T3sl4> there's one particular item in a game which is a 10% chance every time you ask the NPC for it, the record is like over 80 tries before getting it
08:53:34 <rust_collector> nice, I have never played golf in portland
08:53:41 <Nothing\> you know how Trump always said he's won something like 20 golf championships?
08:53:55 <rust_collector> no
08:53:56 <Ampera> rust_collector, it's fun, instead of hitting golf balls, you hit windows of people's homes and businesses as you watch them cry and beg you to stop
08:53:57 <T3sl4> Ampera, you don't know the first thing about antifa
08:54:01 <Nothing\> apparently the reason that's true is because every time he opened a new course, he'd play the first round and call it a championship
08:54:09 <Nothing\> and since he's the only one playing, he always wins
08:54:32 <Ampera> T3sl4, I think you might have the wrong address, I never mentioned antifa
08:55:08 <Nothing\> apparently canada officially declared the Proud Boys to be a terrorist organization
08:55:22 <rust_collector> that was a while ago
08:55:28 <T3sl4> or whoever that autonomous zone was done by
08:55:29 <Nothing\> i think a month or so
08:55:55 <Ampera> The big "autonomous" zone everyone was talking about wasn't even in Portland
08:55:59 <Ampera> it was in Seattle
08:56:11 <T3sl4> close enough
08:56:42 <Ampera> I don't give a shit what scapegoat name people want to apply to nonstop violence.
08:56:51 <Nothing\> anyways, here's the link that i MEANT to post initially
08:56:53 <Nothing\> https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snla017/snla017.pdf?ts=1614502744801&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F
08:57:04 <Nothing\> it's a TI app note about CRT displays from 1989
08:57:13 <Ampera> It's all political blameshifting so people don't have to deal with the crazy possibility of being on the same general political wing as a load of terrorists
08:57:13 <Nothing\> real interesting stuff
08:57:56 <Nothing\> one part of that app note i find neat is how fast the timing has to be depending on the resolution of the display
08:59:05 <Nothing\> like, 320x200 requires a pixel clock speed of 5Mhz
08:59:09 <T3sl4> yeah, my trinitron had a nice 100MHz or so bandwidth triple video driver
08:59:21 <T3sl4> you can find some really nice transistors in those, or modules in my case
08:59:41 * Ampera wants to find whoever decided it was a good idea to use JPEG compression for graphics in that PDF
08:59:43 <Nothing\> where a 4096x3300 display requires a clock speed of 1.2ghz
08:59:46 * Ampera wants to hear that person scream in pain
08:59:59 <Nothing\> which was a ridiculous clock speed for 1989
09:00:22 <T3sl4> not sure anyone made a CRT quite that high res, 2048x1536 was available by, idunno, end of the 90s? mid 2000s?
09:00:38 <Ampera> I swear we need to begin to train and license people to use image compression formats, so we don't have to deal with this shit >:(
09:02:19 <Nothing\> T3sl4, i dunno, i have this copy of the game Tie Fighter, which was made some time in the early to mid 90's and it had display settings for 4k
09:02:37 <Nothing\> although they could have added it to the game since it was a sort of remake of it
09:02:44 <Ampera> because most 3D PC games are designed to operate on any video mode presented to it by the system
09:02:52 <Ampera> or even 2D windows games
09:03:02 <T3sl4> well, the OS lists resolutions to the application, it's up to the application if they want to support them and how
09:03:11 <Nothing\> er no, not tie fighter, it was Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight
09:03:13 <Ampera> early to mid 90's though is usually a time when people had a pretty who gives a shit attitude towards scaling
09:03:19 <Nothing\> but that was still mid 90s
09:03:33 <Ampera> '97 FPS
09:03:34 <Ampera> late 90's
09:03:50 <Nothing\> i don't see the point of high FPS
09:03:54 <Ampera> it's a 3D game, which means it can arbitrarily render at pretty much any resolution the hardware supports
09:03:58 <Ampera> what
09:04:03 <Nothing\> tbh once it gets past 30fps, i don't notice much difference
09:04:07 <Ampera> no FPS == First Person Shooter
09:04:27 <Nothing\> maybe some more smoothness in between 30 and 60, but nothing higher than that
09:04:28 <Ampera> I most certainly notice the difference
09:04:32 <Nothing\> Ampera, ah my bad
09:04:41 <Ampera> I have a 144hz monitor and it's far better than my 60 hz displays
09:04:47 <Ampera> that being said
09:04:56 <Ampera> what makes scenes smooth when rendered on PC is not framerate, but frame consistency
09:05:12 <Ampera> if you have a high framerate, but one that's got a lot of serious dips, it will be a insanely jerky
09:05:36 <Ampera> which is incredibly common on Windows machines with meh graphics cards running high end games and no adaptive sync tech
09:06:16 <Ampera> For some reason, my Linux machine is completely and totally immune to screen tearing, and has a seemingly perfect ability to adapt framerates despite having no adaptive sync tech
09:06:40 <T3sl4> i noticed improvement up to about 120 FPS, back in the days when i played a lot of quake
09:07:00 <T3sl4> if you aren't playing twitch shooters, it's probably not going to matter much
09:07:23 <Ampera> For me it's a matter of clarity. High temporal resolution is like high visual resolution
09:08:01 <Ampera> while there is an area of diminishing returns, quite likely a subjective one, a good high framerate looks nicer than a lower one
09:08:54 <Ampera> There's a reason why high end phones are increasingly coming with 90 and 120hz displays
09:13:44 * rust_collector made muffins
09:14:06 * Ampera snatches one
09:14:23 * rust_collector grabs the other one
09:14:29 <T3sl4> mmm, muff
09:14:43 <T3sl4> sweet and sour carrot muffins i hope?
09:14:51 <Ampera> you are a terrible person, T3sl4
09:15:11 <T3sl4> ty
09:15:13 <Ampera> keep your filthy damn vegetables away from confections you heretic
09:15:30 <rust_collector> you are not wrong T3sl4
09:16:09 <Ampera> you both need to be shot and executed
09:16:18 <Ampera> and then when you are dead, propped up, reanimated
09:16:21 <Ampera> and then shot and executed again
09:16:30 <rust_collector> just put some ketchup on them, it is gooood
09:16:46 <T3sl4> blaming others for your hate of vegetables, interesting
09:16:54 <Ampera> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/542853460157136896/727492020741996564/8b1.png
09:17:32 <Nothing\> oh kick ass
09:18:01 <rust_collector> oh no. i found more igbts. does anyone use normal transistors any more?
09:18:02 <Nothing\> nintendo's releasing an HD port of LoZ: Skyward Sword for the switch in July
09:18:18 <Nothing\> except i've already played through it twice
09:18:19 <Ampera> if only the switch was powerful enough to render in HD
09:18:24 <Nothing\> it is
09:18:34 <Nothing\> that's the Wii that wasn't HD
09:18:51 <Nothing\> the switch is 1080p, i believe. but lemme double check
09:19:04 * Ampera looks over at the corner, where the joke he made landed after flying right over Nothing\'s head
09:19:30 <Nothing\> ah lol
09:19:46 <Nothing\> well in fairness, the handheld resolution is only 720p
09:19:53 <Nothing\> which YouTube doesn't even consider HD anymore
09:19:57 <Ampera> I was talking about render resolution
09:20:02 <rust_collector> it increases if you put it on the floor?
09:20:08 <Nothing\> what's render resolution?
09:20:16 <Nothing\> like, textures and stuff?
09:20:20 <Nothing\> or polygons?
09:20:27 <Ampera> In 3D graphics, you can draw the graphics at a different resolution than what you display it at
09:20:42 <Ampera> that's why you can set the resolution in a PC game to something lower than what your monitor can support
09:20:45 <Nothing\> ah okay
09:21:01 <Nothing\> interesting
09:21:15 <Nothing\> i dunno why you'd wanna do that though
09:21:19 <Ampera> The Switch doesn't have a lot of power, so most games it plays render nowhere near HD
09:21:29 <Nothing\> unless your computer's garbage and you need to play a game
09:21:35 <Ampera> because rendering at lower resolutions requires less compute
09:22:12 <Nothing\> like back in the whe i tried running half life 2 on a computer with 256mb of ram, a voodoo banshee for the video card and a 900mhz AMD Thunderbird
09:22:15 <Ampera> the Switch uses a /very/ underclocked Tegra X1, which I believe is so underclocked it's actually slower than the Shield Tablet
09:22:41 <Ampera> (which uses an older Tegra K1)
09:22:47 <Nothing\> lol eventually i went to upgrade it with... i forget which cpu i got, a sempron i think, but it was supposed to run at i think 1.2 or 1.6ghz
09:23:17 <Nothing\> but my motherboard's front side bus speed was so low, the highest it could run at was 1050mhz
09:23:18 <Ampera> I'm in a Discord with some people where the switch is a running punching bag
09:23:28 <Ampera> so I'm used to making fun of it :P
09:23:40 <Nothing\> but i guess een going form 900mhz to 1050 is a good sized jump
09:24:02 <rust_collector> you should play the gamechild. it was a much better device
09:24:10 <Ampera> damn straight
09:24:20 <Nothing\> Ampera, hey man, it's a good system, aside from how stupidly overpriced the games are
09:24:30 <Nothing\> rust_collector, i've heard of those
09:24:35 <Nothing\> possibly on ashens
09:24:36 <Ampera> Unfortunately I have to agree, when the comparison is to other game consoles
09:25:01 <Ampera> as, in typical Nintendo fashion, they have compelling exclusives that I know I'll like, whereas other consoles are just PC games they're holding hostage
09:25:13 <Nothing\> Ampera, right but you can't compare consoles based solely on the power of their hardware
09:25:19 <Ampera> of course you can
09:25:29 <Nothing\> the wii outsold both the 360 and ps3
09:25:46 <Nothing\> because it had (subjectively) better games
09:25:46 <Ampera> because if you compare them in game library, the PC will fucking curbstomp every console ever made
09:25:50 <Ampera> HAHAHAHAHA
09:25:55 <Ampera> The Wii was shovelware city
09:26:07 <Ampera> it was great for homebrew though
09:26:16 <electrohead> my modded wii still works
09:26:18 <electrohead> :D
09:26:30 <Ampera> I have a homebrewed Wii and a Wii U (I got the Wii U for free)
09:26:31 <Nothing\> Ampera, the wii appealed to a wider audience of casual gamers who otherwise wouldn't have even considered gaming if given the choice between a ps3/360
09:26:48 <Nothing\> yeah, modding my wii was one of the best things i ever did
09:27:03 <rust_collector> hmm, my muffins look like illegaly underage boobies
09:27:24 <Nothing\> yum?
09:27:38 <electrohead> you're not supposed to say 'yum' to a statement like that
09:27:41 <electrohead> lol
09:27:44 <Ampera> uwu
09:28:15 <Nothing\> electrohead, you're right, if they were bags of sand that would be closer to the real thign
09:28:28 <coppice> Nothing\: its dnf these days
09:28:31 <electrohead> lmfao
09:28:47 <Ampera> hahaha
09:28:59 <rust_collector> pffft. centos people...
09:29:00 <Nothing\> man, windows lets you make your mouse cursor riducolously large
09:30:22 <rust_collector> awesome. that is one of the best features they have
09:30:37 <Nothing\> agreed
09:30:47 <Ampera> no no no, the best feature windows has is where it will spontaneously break itself whenever it feels like it
09:31:24 <Ampera> the best part is it'll do it in such an insanely convoluted way as to make it impossible to fix it unless you work on NT
09:32:08 <rust_collector> I think the error messages is the best. "you can fix this issue by installing windows from a cd"
09:33:40 <Ampera> I love compact dicks!
09:35:37 * Ampera is irradiating mussels
09:40:59 <electrohead> compact dick - when you push it in, and make it disappear
09:41:21 <electrohead> (lol)
09:45:37 <electrohead> Nothing\: https://nee.lv/2021/02/28/How-I-cut-GTA-Online-loading-times-by-70/
09:46:00 <electrohead> I do think it was you, that said (you) play GTA V on PC
09:54:28 <T3sl4> steve30 lookin for a bf bein like https://i.redd.it/om5z60l1a6k61.jpg
09:54:57 <steve30> hehe
09:58:49 <steve30> Kdenlive seems to have acquired some extra ampersands
09:59:06 <steve30> I now have a "C&lip Monitor" and a "P&roject Monitor"
10:00:06 <Nothing\> electrohead, yup I do. But the loading times aren't too bad at all with my Ryzen 5 3600x
10:01:00 <Nothing\> i called out one guy in the discussion page on Steam for the game bitching about how he's not gonna play it cuz it isn't fun anymore. He claimed out of 2700 hours of gameplay, he spent 2600 hours on loading screens
10:01:10 <Nothing\> told him it's not the game's fault he has a shitty computer
10:01:47 <Nothing\> then he went all creep-mode on me and started going through my profile and posting comments on my game reviews
10:01:56 <rust_collector> well, it should not be a problem for anyone, if he does not play it. no one is forcing him
10:01:57 <Nothing\> so i just blocked him, outright
10:02:04 <Nothing\> yeah exactly
10:02:42 <Nothing\> i worked out it's something like 50 minutes of loading screen per hour of gameplay and any normal person would have moved on well before racking up that much time

14:38:25 <dr00bie> T3sl4: you were right, it was only supposed to be one 1 conductor. Thanks for pointing that out, Occam's Razor, but I was applying the way clamp ammeters work around all conductors, and figured this would be the same.

22:54:31 <rust_collector> oops
22:56:20 <rust_collector> I think tomorrow is a good day to look over the bikes. at least see how the wifes battery is doing. I still have not tried that electric bike. I like the idea
23:00:43 <Ampera> I hope if I ever get married my significant other is battery powered, so if they annoy me too much, I can simply remove their batteries for a while.
23:01:38 <rust_collector> very handy
23:03:21 <K> oh look at mr facy-pants here with his battery-powered wife, while all us plebs have to get by with wind-up ones
23:03:43 <steve30> I wonder how far away we are from robot-wives
