11:53:49 <Halcyon> Yes we do
11:53:49 <Ampera> no
11:53:49 <Ampera> I mean between city/town and state
11:53:49 <Halcyon> I don't understand the difference between that and what you asked?
11:53:49 <Ampera> the US has 4 regional layers of government, federal, state, county, and city/town
11:53:49 <Ampera> I want to know if Australia has an equivalent of our county, which is larger than a city/town, but smaller than a state
11:53:49 <Ampera> with or without a government
11:53:49 <Halcyon> Yes, so here county would be a local government area, consisting of cities/towns/suburbs
11:53:49 <Halcyon> All LGAs have a governing council
11:53:49 <Ampera> Here all layers I mentioned have independent government, the structure of which being largely up to that layer
11:53:49 <Halcyon> For example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Sydney
11:53:49 <EEVBot> [Title] - City of Sydney - Wikipedia
11:53:49 <Ampera> bicameral, unicameral, whatever
11:53:49 <Ampera> so the City of Albany has its own government, as does the County of Albany
11:53:49 <Halcyon> But in terms of law enforcement/police, there is nothing lower than state. You have council parking rangers, but they aren't really considered law enforcement.
11:53:49 <Ampera> we have state troopers, county sheriffs, and town/city police
11:53:49 <Halcyon> Yeh we don't have any of that
11:53:49 <Halcyon> I have the same powers here as I do 700 kilometers away
11:53:49 <Ampera> Federal police is a lot more interesting of a topic
11:53:49 <Halcyon> As does any highway patrol officer etc...
11:53:49 <Ampera> it both does and does not exist, in that there are federal officers which have the power to enforce law, but the extent to which or how they enforce that law wouldn't necessarily qualify them as police in any traditional sense
11:53:49 <Halcyon> Yeh I'd imagine it's similar here. There are federal agencies which I guess as accessories to law enforcement, but they don't go out arresting people etc...
11:53:49 <Halcyon> That's what police are for
11:53:49 <Ampera> We do have federal agencies with the power to detain, and I believe even charge people
11:53:49 <Ampera> exactly which ones those are I am not sure
11:53:49 <Ampera> The FBI is a common example though
11:53:49 <Halcyon> Yeh I don't know either. For example whenever we do jobs with ASIO, which is our domestic intelligence agency, they would do the investigation but when it comes time to put someone before the courts, we usually do it.
11:53:49 <Halcyon> Or it would be a joint investigation between multiple agencies
11:53:49 <Halcyon> Gah, stupid Windows. Why the hell would they set it to force a reboot in the middle of a business day?
11:53:49 <Halcyon> Idiot
11:53:49 <Halcyon> *Idiots
11:53:49 <Erhard> Just configure it to do manual updates only. I believe it was with gpedit. Mine never bother me at all.
11:53:49 <Erhard> bbl
11:53:49 <Halcyon> This is on my work PC
11:53:49 <Halcyon> I don't have control over that
11:53:49 <Halcyon> If I had a choice, I wouldn't be using Windows
