00:51:30 <T3sl4> Ampera: mm, tetralicious
00:51:55 <hsn> T3sl4, mono-whaaaaat ?
00:52:33 <T3sl4> one stone
00:52:42 * T3sl4 stones hsn, and not in the good way
00:57:04 <arch> i need to put a crapton of capacitors on my PSU output. it crashes my laptop if i apply a 2A load transient at the lower end of the input voltage range
00:57:15 <arch> my lab PSU i mean
00:57:34 <arch> when i apply a load transient, it dips the current rail into CC mode
00:57:59 <arch> that's the problem with having a 4A CC-CV psu...i need something beefier
00:59:04 <arch> what's a decent switched mode lab psu that can output 10A or so?
01:01:16 <arch> let me get the crash waveform. i'll probe the input cap, then apply a 2A transient at 14V input
01:05:39 <arch> yuh huh...crashes the voltage rail
01:06:46 <T3sl4> so what, response time to CV/CC operation or something?
01:07:02 <arch> yeah, it seems to have a very low response time
01:07:07 <arch> waveform coming up in a min
01:07:17 <arch> or rather very fast response time to shorts
01:11:49 <arch> blegh, these oldie lab PSUs aren't that good, are they
01:12:05 <arch> bulletproof, that's for sure, but not very good at regulating
01:13:05 <arch> im glad i did this test, because i see some real bad behavior with my GPC-3020 lab psu. voltge is set to 14.5V, but it shoots up to 18V on short-circuit recovery
01:14:32 <arch> https://i.imgur.com/8hsCQvt.png
01:14:55 <arch> so what happens: at the point you see the lab PSU voltage rail start to crash, that's where i applied the 2A load transient
01:16:00 <arch> my sepic converter has a UVLO shutdown at 11V going into a RC filter of 0.1uF, which terminates the LM3478 pulse via the supervisor IC i have onboard
01:16:12 <arch> if the voltage crashes below 11V
01:18:12 <arch> im using the standard, 1 foot length (x2) jumper cables from my lab psu, so resistance shouldn't be much. anywho, the voltage rail crashiing leads to my load (a laptop) connected to my sepic, also shutting down (under load, prime95)
01:19:07 <arch> ftr, the test subject laptop i am using does not have a battery, so fear not for my safety :3
01:19:55 <arch> it's a frankenstein of a laptop, solely intended for testing out PSUs, and i've not killed it yet after a lot of tough tests on it

01:21:33 <mnem> mmmmhmmmm... is it still the end of the world...?
01:21:51 <T3sl4> the light is at the end of the tunnel
01:21:53 <arch> oh, wait a second, i have some 200V, 4700uF caps around. let me connect them to my PSU output....
01:21:56 <T3sl4> though it might still be a train coming
01:22:04 <arch> that should prevent the rail from crashing far enough
01:22:26 <arch> T3sl4, you mean my PSU is slow?
01:22:31 <T3sl4> ye
01:22:38 <arch> note the 700us rise time, that's just charging up a 100uF input cap...
01:23:08 <arch> and even then, it fucking overshoots by a mile
01:23:19 <arch> i have it set to 14.5V out, it's putting out 18V for a bit
01:24:10 <arch> https://www.techedu.com/Instek_Gpc-3020.asp <-- do not buy; see waveform above ^^
01:24:51 <arch> ugh...see, i would have never noticed this if it wasn't for the UVLO. i thought my PSU was pretty good
01:24:59 <T3sl4> theres a lot of bad analog circuits out there
01:25:16 <T3sl4> crack it open and do the same thing, fix the compensation
01:25:31 <T3sl4> it's probably a traditional pass regulated circuit, not hard to figure out
01:25:49 <arch> bruv...i can barely compensate a buck converter (with a lot of help). you expect me to comp a linreg?

01:52:17 <gnif> what are you measuring?
01:52:37 <Reg7805> the output of the transformer
01:52:44 <gnif> voltage?
01:53:06 <Reg7805> AC 11V
01:53:13 <Ysjoelfir> maybe the voltage of THE transformer is clipped? like basically every real world line voltage is :)
01:54:07 <gnif> Ysjoelfir, seriously? I have never noted this in Aus
01:54:29 <rust_collector> meh, you are different down there
01:54:36 <Ysjoelfir> sure. if you aren't somewhere in the outback you will never have a perfect line voltage
01:54:57 <Reg7805> the transformer has input voltage of 220V but i am in the UK with 230V AC, will that cause it to be clipped,
01:55:06 <Ysjoelfir> mind you, I am not talking about like... clipping 20% of the sine wave, more like... a few %
01:55:12 <K> 3.50
01:55:32 <gnif> voltage input increase will just be reflected as an increased output voltage
01:56:14 <Reg7805> yes that correct gnif my transformer is outputting 13V instead of 11V
01:56:49 <Reg7805> my AC wave just the top and bottom is clipped
01:56:57 <K> can you make photo of scope screen?
01:57:16 <K> post it on imgur or somth
01:57:43 <Reg7805> yes i can take screenshot scope screen, but how do i upload it to IRC

01:58:15 <rust_collector> you host it somewhere else, and give us the link

01:59:40 <K> rigol should add button "send to imgur"
01:59:45 <gnif> you say that now, but when you get a 320x240 potato photo...

02:02:30 <therealazzurro> hey gnif how's the restore going? got some servers already?
02:02:42 <Reg7805> that is the screenshot of scope screen measuring AC
02:02:52 <gnif> Dave has opted to wait... so just waiting
02:03:27 <therealazzurro> wow erm ok.. wait for the original servers to come online?
02:03:32 <Ysjoelfir> that looks pretty normal imho, if you live in the city with loads of SMPS loading the line
02:03:48 <K> Reg7805: not great, not terrible
02:03:53 <Ysjoelfir> Reg7805, let me make a screen of mine for you, just out of curiosity
02:04:02 <gnif> therealazzurro, yeah
02:04:35 <gnif> Ysjoelfir, are you sure... it looks a bit yellow to me... it's the wrong colour of electricity
02:04:42 <Reg7805> thanks Ysjeoflir
02:04:59 <therealazzurro> has something changed on the chances of them being flooded? the last time we were talking about this, you said that you're going to spin up new servers because of the probability that the original ones are drowning
02:05:24 <gnif> I said we were looking into it and in the process of arranging it
02:05:49 <gnif> at the end of the day, Dave makes the final decisions on things, he wants to wait so we wait
02:06:13 <therealazzurro> ah ok so dave put a stop sign to that route completely for now? no pressure, just wondering
02:06:32 <gnif> for now.. we do though have options ready to go if he does want to proceed
02:06:52 <therealazzurro> ok cool, lets see, then what happens :D
02:07:33 <Kuschelpony> reg7805 just a question, is thius the actual mains voltage (not pretty but somewhat acceptable) or the secondary voltage of your transformer when the rectifier is connected (then its totally normal)
02:07:35 <Ysjoelfir> gnif oh damn, right, that should be blue! XD
02:07:45 <Ysjoelfir> https://drive.google.com/file/d/1y8MdGSWvwAOT03sxTd3FBkhcfJeTpSI1/view?usp=sharing Reg7805
02:08:15 <gnif> your electricity is the wrong colour too!
02:08:26 <Ysjoelfir> yes!
02:09:08 <gnif> damn unpredictable rogue electrons
02:09:26 <Ysjoelfir> regarding to Mr. Ponys questions: that is the secondary from an unloaded 230V - 6V transformer (in my pic, no idea about Reg7805 )
02:09:58 <Reg7805> Kuschelpony
02:09:58 <Reg7805> KuschelponyKuschelpony
02:09:58 <Reg7805> Kuschelpony, the measured ac is on the secondary side of the transformer and it is measured before the half bridge rectifier
02:10:26 <Kuschelpony> then the flat tops are perfectly fine, its your rectifier which clips them
02:10:34 <Kuschelpony> and yes ai am here :)
02:11:32 <Reg7805> Ysjoelfir i see the link, thanks, i thought the AC will be more sine wave
02:11:42 <Ysjoelfir> nah.

02:12:33 * Ampera hugs TheDude
02:12:37 <Ampera> how are you doing TheDude
02:12:47 <rust_collector> same here. I don't know anything
02:12:52 <Ampera> also, big news to those who know
02:12:53 <TheDude> quite alright
02:13:13 <Ampera> We have now, for the first time ever, had more concurrent users on #eevblog austnet than #eevblog AfterNET
02:13:13 <TheDude> what news?
02:13:21 <TheDude> oh
02:13:28 <TheDude> that's kinda sad

02:13:37 <TheDude> afternet performs better
02:13:47 <Ampera> The AfterNET channel has a /lot/ of inactive people though
02:13:53 <Ampera> we've had more active regulars for a long while
02:13:59 <Kuschelpony> oh i didnt know there are more channels
02:14:03 <Ampera> there isn't
02:14:08 <Ampera> this is the one official channel

02:14:15 <gnif> Ysjoelfir, you're right, I have never noticed that before:

02:14:23 <Ampera> the #eevblog on AfterNET used to be the official channel, but then a split happened and now this is the official channel
02:14:33 <TheDude> but then Dave moved the official channel to this shitty server
02:14:36 <Ampera> they were the official for years, so they used to have almost a hundred concurrent users
02:16:40 <TheDude> gnif, wanna buy some harmonics?

02:19:58 <Ysjoelfir> ew, that kiwi IRC thing?
02:20:14 <TheDude> and only then would a proper workbench get a place in here
02:20:17 <Reg7805> i think so
02:20:26 <Reg7805> it is crap
02:20:28 <TheDude> and I don't see that happening in the near future, because:

02:25:21 <Ampera> vaccines are great

02:25:43 <Ysjoelfir> sounds a bit like my plans until I got kicked out by my ex boss after corona started

02:26:31 <TheDude> the politician cunts didn't even order the pfizer stuff that was available for us

02:27:39 <TheDude> nah, the distribution was supposedly made available based on the population size
02:27:53 <TheDude> so we'd get a decent share
02:28:31 <Ampera> Supposedly, even Germany's starting to get sick of the EU's shit with ordering and is talking about going on their own with vaccine acquisition
02:28:37 <Ampera> you know shit's bad when the germans lose faith in the EU
02:29:18 <TheDude> hah
02:29:31 <TheDude> which manufacturer "screwed up" a batch of vaccine recently?
02:29:57 <TheDude> oh right, johnson&johnson
02:30:21 <Ampera> Yeah, the news here is even reporting some people just kinda don't even want to get it
02:30:28 <Ampera> which is not a big deal because most of the vaccine supply here is pfizer
02:30:38 <Ampera> pfizer is a NY company, so I guess that makes sense
02:30:41 <TheDude> I have this weird feeling that they probably made a shady deal with some entity
02:30:52 <TheDude> and had to deliver vaccine ahead of schedule

02:32:11 <Ampera> afaik that's basically the deal with why the US has vaccines and the EU doesn't
02:32:14 <Ampera> because we just pay more for them
02:32:50 <Ampera> The US is on a money burning high right now, which is good for the economy like a slurry of heroin, coke, and steroids is good for a bodybuilder, but has some benefits I suppose
02:33:26 <TheDude> tbh, I kind of started filtering out the news about this stuff

02:39:28 <arch> i have a 15A fast blow SMD fuse on the sepic conv itself. that's what blew when i directly connected to the 12V batt...
02:39:42 <arch> i replaced it of course

02:40:16 <TheDude> yeah, a fast blow fuse is not exactly great for these sorts of purposes
02:40:40 <Reg7805> yes im back on with AdiIRC

02:42:59 <Ysjoelfir> type a letter of the name and press tab
02:43:23 <therealazzurro> hey completely unrelated to EE but are there any linux desktop users here?
02:43:33 <Reg7805> Ysjoelfir thanks
02:43:41 <Kuschelpony> yes here
02:43:45 <Ysjoelfir> rust_collector, someone askef for you. and Ampera. and several others as well.
02:43:51 <Kuschelpony> specifically XUbuntu
02:44:04 <Ysjoelfir> oh mr. pony is also a penguin, ok. /me takes a note
02:44:11 * arch looks at self's username
02:44:24 <arch> i use arch btw
02:44:35 <Kuschelpony> you can add a lot more species :) but the Pony is a kind of soul animal
02:44:50 <Reg7805> arch , i use popOS btw
02:45:54 <Reg7805> but at this momemnt using windows arch
02:45:57 <therealazzurro> I tried using Manjaro (arch fork?) on a notebook and a desktop several times, in the past 2 years or so. Only thing that didn't stop bothering me, was stuttering video and high cpu load when playing youtube videos in 1080p and higher. haswell igp that was and radeon RX 560 as well. tried with firefox, chromium and opera, all the same. any obvious idea? tried proprietary and oss drivers as
02:45:57 <therealazzurro> well.
02:46:08 <therealazzurro> same hardware with windows: absolutely no issues
02:47:14 <Ampera> arch > manjaro
02:47:26 <Ampera> manjaro is what happens when people just don't get the point of arch
02:47:31 <arch> i love you too Ampera
02:47:43 <therealazzurro> haha
02:47:53 * Ampera hugs arch
02:48:20 <Reg7805> therealazzurro > have you tried popOS, it should have great compability, becuase i used debian before on my dekstop pc with rx580 graphics card and lots of issues, after swiching popOS no probs.
02:48:38 <Kuschelpony> hmm im sorry but i dont watch videos so i have no experience here
02:49:08 <therealazzurro> i have to admit that I didn't try with any other linux distribution, not even the most obvious (because one of the most popular): ubuntu
02:49:21 <therealazzurro> what is popOS, have to google that
02:49:48 <therealazzurro> no eevblog videos? what are you doing here? :D
02:49:56 <arch> therealazzurro, do you have libva drivers installed?
02:50:23 <jaymax> It seems like the hardware acceleration wasn't enabled in the browsers - which may just be a lower-level package that wasn't installed nor was OOTB.
02:50:26 Join: old-jo ([email protected]) to #EEVblog
02:51:00 <Reg7805> arch > good point need have those libva drivers
02:52:16 <therealazzurro> no idea @libva drivers. will lsmod tell me that?
02:53:22 <Kuschelpony> mmh
02:53:31 <therealazzurro> yes, hardware acceleration is a good point, i even went to the effort and compiled chromium myself with some hw acc stuff because i found somewhere that that was disabled due to X reason by default (can't remember). but even after that was compiled in, it was very sluggish. there is some chromium page where you can check the status of the hw acc and it was on, iirc
02:54:03 <Kuschelpony> just to say i do not recommand Ubuntu for reasons about privacy and other forced stuff, they are going like Micorsoft did with windows
02:54:14 <Kuschelpony> XUbuntu is a different mix
02:54:15 <therealazzurro> i absolutely don't like ubuntu
02:54:29 <Kuschelpony> i liked it until somewhat the 9
02:54:32 <therealazzurro> would only try it to see whether hw acc is working there
02:54:44 <therealazzurro> i never liked because of the stupid name to begin with
02:54:58 <Kuschelpony> for me it was a question about freedom
02:55:02 <therealazzurro> and then because why use it, just use debian.
02:55:13 <therealazzurro> and then because of your reasons, they came on top of that
02:55:25 <Kuschelpony> didnt wanted to start with WinXP
02:56:03 <therealazzurro> lsmod | grep libva gives me nothing
02:56:27 <arch> therealazzurro, do the following. install mesa-utils, then run $ glxinfo | grep -i render
02:56:48 <arch> and also install the package inxi
02:56:52 <arch> then run $inxi -Gx
02:57:15 <Ampera> I've found, in terms of distros, the farther you go from the horse's mouth, the worse
02:57:20 <arch> that will show which video lib you're using. the open source radeon lib sucks butts
02:57:24 <gnif> `libva*` is not a kernel module
02:57:29 <Ampera> it's also irritating that distros start to be defined exclusively by the desktop environment they ship with
02:57:58 <gnif> I think you wanted `dpkg -l | grep libva`
02:59:48 <arch> ^
02:59:54 <Reg7805> btw guys i have tried running multsim on linux and it has been working for while, doing some circuits

03:00:57 <arch> therealazzurro, what's the output of $inxi -Gx
03:00:58 <Reg7805> arch > the college wants us to use multsim
03:00:59 <therealazzurro> give me a second to fire up irc on the manjaro laptop
03:01:31 <arch> colleges can eat shit. fuck their stupid ass simulation software curriculum. people need hands on learning
03:02:12 <TheDude> also nobody ever uses multisim for doing actual work

03:05:46 <arch> ok so you just have intel graphics. therefore you need VAAPI
03:06:06 <Ampera> what else would he have

03:55:10 * hierbabuena wants to change the topic to "EE given stuck in WebNX canal"
03:55:18 <TheDude> we had two teams conferences with them yesterday and today
03:56:03 <TheDude> apparently they don't know a thing about the tools they're supposed to be using to produce the documentation -.-
03:56:42 <TheDude> and I'm gonna have to be the guy that's gonna have to babysit them
03:58:05 <Reg7805> thats strange they write the code but cant write documentation, even at the college i have been tought how to write documentation
03:58:37 <TheDude> they're not writing the code
03:58:41 <TheDude> we are
03:58:53 <Reg7805> my bad
03:59:16 <TheDude> but often times, there is little time to actually do things properly and document everything, because we're jumping from project to project
03:59:24 <Reg7805> but whats the point haveing them if your going to endup babysitting them
03:59:38 <TheDude> we're understaffed, we have too many projects going on at the same time
04:00:12 <TheDude> the boss that hired them thinks they're going to be fairly independent
04:00:12 <Reg7805> ok i understand
04:00:25 <TheDude> also they happen to be working at the company where he previously worked
04:00:35 <TheDude> so he's basically providing work to his old buddies
04:01:25 <TheDude> also the expectations for the documentation are rather different to what we were used to doing
04:02:00 <TheDude> we're now trying to have the whole software platform documented in Enterprise Architect
04:02:17 <TheDude> and doing things properly in that thing takes a shitload of effort
04:02:30 <TheDude> basically time which we currently just don't have
04:03:46 <Reg7805> well, lucky the boss even hirred somebody to do work, so much work for understaff company
04:04:55 <Reg7805> the same happens with my mother running a large gift shop with 3 poeple for the 6 days of the week, with a lot of work
04:05:14 <TheDude> it would be better if we actually subcontracted competent people
04:05:22 <arch> TheDude, are you familiar with slope compensation on PSUs?
04:05:22 <gnif> hierbabuena, I feel like that little backhoe that was trying to free the ship
04:06:10 <TheDude> arch, I'm aware of what it is, but haven't actually done anything in relation to it
04:06:29 <Reg7805> the boss does not want to hire more staff becuase they want max profit
04:06:38 <Reg7805> and minimum pay
04:06:39 <TheDude> nope
04:06:45 <arch> i was wondering if this equation also applies to SEPIC converters for D > 50%: https://i.imgur.com/uI8cBlV.png
04:06:57 <TheDude> you're thinking of small companies where the boss is the one that is paying the stuff
04:07:19 <TheDude> I'm in a massive corporation where the boss that hires them doesn't actually have to care about paying them
04:08:15 <TheDude> yeah, sorry, can't help you with that

04:11:15 <arch> waveforms as in what the slope of the current during off time?

04:13:37 <TheDude> not 100% sure, but very likely, yes
04:15:49 <ratstar> I saw on the internet that FPGA's can be 10's of thousands of dollars, and so can GPU's but I never spent more than $1000 on a gpu so I never knew.
04:16:04 <ratstar> like buying diamonds
04:16:13 <Reg7805> it is shame that a lot poeple dont care about trying to complete their own work without having poople baby sitting them, i wish the best luck of completing the work and your boss or the does not drive you crazy.

04:17:46 <Reg7805> I will be back after 30 min, need to eat, good talking with you.
04:18:27 <Watcher> rastar, yes there are multi thousand dollar gpu's for server and workstation use
04:23:12 <ratstar> I used to think there wasnt enough processing power for ai, because it needs so much, but if u managed to get an expensive set of FPGAS, it could be an enormous amount of power that could make quite a smart robot
04:23:50 <ratstar> so weve got tonnes of logic power. but they ask a pretty penny for it.

04:27:28 <ratstar> I agree. I've used consumer grade GTX gpus, they are fast, but I need something faster now. and I was going to resort to doing the whole thing from scratch. :) But turns out maybe FPGA's might be able to work for me
04:28:51 <T3sl4> or just ordinary CPUs. a raspberry pi is seriously powerful for embedded applications. most people use an incredibly small fraction of the capability, or familiar applications that might not be appreciated as such (e.g. basic internet browsing, video decoding, gaming)
04:29:05 <Watcher> and if you need to rack mounted there are prebuilt rackmount fpga servers
04:29:42 <ratstar> A rack of cheaper fpgas would be more cost efficient than buy one big daddy, if its anything like GPU's.
04:30:20 <Watcher> and linux is in my expecience a lot more light weight then windows so use that first if you need more power
04:30:21 <ratstar> T3sl4 haha!!
04:31:05 <gnif> it's not exactly hard to be more lightweight then windows though :)
04:31:07 <T3sl4> big FPGAs are, as far as i know, mainly used by big telecom and IC dev users
04:31:19 <T3sl4> they're expensive not so much because of capability, as because the quantity is small
04:31:50 <ratstar> 2 billion CLB's as aposed to 2 thousand is a big dif.
04:32:29 <ratstar> $10,000 compared to $200
04:32:34 <ratstar> aud
04:32:38 <Watcher> high freqeuntcy traders and some miner use also fpga's
04:33:13 <ratstar> Once u get the power, u have to know how to use it too. =)
04:33:39 <hierbabuena> gnif, you're awake, oh gosh]

04:33:57 <T3sl4> yeah
04:34:01 <TheDude> the bigger the silicon die, the more likely that it's going to have defects
04:34:14 <T3sl4> die size is about the same as anything, top tech GPUs, CPUs, IGBTs you name it
04:34:31 <gnif> hierbabuena, such is the world of server management
04:34:35 <electrohead> Ampera: yeah man, if you can get those three, that would be cool
04:34:36 <TheDude> big shit in general is expensive
04:34:37 <T3sl4> mechanical and thermal limits, and to some extent defect rate, dominates
04:34:40 <electrohead> o/
04:34:48 <TheDude> but even moreso in the production if integrated circuits :D
04:34:57 <T3sl4> if they made them in quantity you'd expect them to cost like GPUs, basically 1/10th or less their current price
04:35:34 <T3sl4> and they do lots of things to mitigate yield, FPGA and Flash they can just knock out defective blocks
04:35:47 <ratstar> GPU market is getting illogical, the 90 at the end of the GTX number used to stand for two GPU's on the same board, and now it doesnt for some reason.
04:35:50 <T3sl4> GPUs similarly, CPUs they can disable some features, or whole cores at worst
04:36:25 <coppice> T3sl4: you might be surprised how reasonable the price of large FPGAs can be, if you are a serious buyer
04:37:40 <hierbabuena> gnif, i understand, I worked in the telecom business for quite a while, if someone calls you on your birthday it is because something is down

04:58:47 <ratstar> Im just AFK at the moment sorry
05:00:40 <Ysjoelfir> thats fine then :) people just tend to join with kiwiIRC, leave that open somewhere in the background and all of the sudden it starts with joins/quit/join/quit/join/quit, which is annoying as hell

05:01:22 <brayden> most clients let you hide joins/parts
05:02:27 <Ysjoelfir> brayden: that is true. mine does as well. but what does that matter?
05:03:13 <brayden> idk solves the problem here I think
05:03:17 <brayden> I don't get bothered by joins/parts tbh
05:03:30 <brayden> probably from sitting in half dead channels endlessly
05:05:15 <Ysjoelfir> you have to take into account that this channel is not dead, most of the time. it can be VERY active actually with several people talking at the same time. then it can get really anoying and irritating if you get flooded with join/part messages.
05:05:51 <Ysjoelfir> also, not everyone has a client that hides join/part, as well as others who don't want to hide it
05:06:16 <brayden> yeah not saying this one's dead. I'm in a whole bunch and sadly some are just join/parts for days
05:06:46 <Ysjoelfir> we actually have join/part spammers from time to time, too, so there is an (inofficial?) rule that this should be avoided :)
05:07:09 <electrohead> both me and Ysjoelfir had to ban people yesterday, because of that

05:14:56 <Ysjoelfir> its used to "knock" onto invite only channels as I read

06:04:58 <Erhard> #!
06:05:01 <Reg7805> i have bunch of those yellow wrapping 220V AC transformers, which i have ripped out of scrap electrronics and amplifiers. I think a lot of the cheap audio amplfier use the cheap transformers. I use those transformer for alot things and they semmed to be fine some of them do homming noise. Long as there is not a lot of eddy currents running around and they use sheet iron core.

06:05:38 <Erhard> Thx. I am looking for audio isolation with a range of 20Hz-15kHz minimum

06:06:21 <Reg7805> but im a only student, there might be person than me, that will know more about transformers.
06:06:25 <bdunham8> 20Hz on a small, cheap transformer is unlikely, and you have to know if they are air-gapped or not.

06:08:46 <Erhard> possibly with s step up or down for impedance matching.
06:09:02 <Reg7805> I usally use the trodial transformers which has less electro-magnetic fileds and most audio amps use it
06:10:57 <Reg7805> the trodial transformer is better for audio becuase it intruduces less interference into the audio in my experience
06:12:06 <Erhard> Certainly contains the flux better.
06:12:24 <Erhard> I am tlaking about a transformer to literally pass line level audio, BTW, not for a PSU.
06:12:25 * electrohead attaches a coffee IV to everyone in the channel
06:12:36 <bdunham8> OK, you're looking at low-level signal, not output-level. Those might work, you'd have to try them. If they aren't air-gapped, you might need a coupling capacitor. You pay your money and you take your chances!
06:13:00 <Erhard> Yeah, and those cost more than I think One Hung Lo should cost.
06:13:13 <Erhard> If they wer elike 5$ I wouldn't think twice
06:13:38 <Reg7805> no there are quite expensive actually
06:14:05 <Erhard> Hence my apprehension.
06:14:09 <Reg7805> usually better ripping out of stuff :)

13:20:01 <hierbabuena> the forum is back!
13:21:21 <bdunham7> Did we lose that day of data?
13:21:31 <Halcyon> Good work gnif

13:22:14 <gnif> thanks guys
13:22:19 <gnif> bdunham7, no :)
13:22:34 <Halcyon> Now even more of a reason to get you out of the house and buy you that beverage :P
13:22:52 <gnif> we are still in a degraded state though, so expect a bumpy ride over the next few days
13:23:19 <electrohead> I imagine the bandwidth influx may slow a few things up?
13:23:23 <electrohead> or, will that be ok?
13:23:42 <bdunham7> Is it running one someone's laptop? :)
13:24:38 <electrohead> no :P
13:25:18 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Tweet: The server is now running new hardware (maybe the old box was water damaged?) Dual Xeon 2620V2 vs older dual L5630 Presumably they'll upgrade the other redundant box too to match.
13:27:21 <hierbabuena> last post before outage was CatalinaWOW's April 04, 2021, 09:35:19 pm (UTC I guess)
13:27:59 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Retweet: HostFission: We are back up on one server! Please note though that there still will likely be disruptions over the next few days as we are running in a degraded state still. https://t.co/VgYk7XwzxU
13:28:00 <gnif> electrohead, we should be able to cope with the traffic spike
13:28:13 <gnif> they upgraded the server
13:28:29 <bdunham7> I actually got a whole circuit board laid out whilst EEVBlog was comatose. Perhaps the occasional outage isn't so bad...
13:28:46 <gnif> now watch the numbers in here fall off again
13:29:01 <electrohead> heh
13:29:21 <electrohead> well, a lot of the users in this channel were here, before the outage :p
13:30:40 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Tweet: The EEVblog servers ARE BACK! Huge thanks to @HostFission for handling this. Thanks to @GorillaServers for prioritising the request and upgrading the boxes. Can't imagine the number of boxes they had to check & bring back online. https://t.co/f5R3dIAFKT
13:34:42 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Tweet: However I can confirm it is quite slow, so please bare with us, the server is operating in a degraded state. The forum is not its usual speedy self yet.
13:36:34 <bdunham7> Just curious what the 'degraded state' is? Is it because there's only one? Or something else?
13:36:49 <electrohead> only one server is being used right now
13:37:58 <bdunham7> I'll stop poking it then. I might get some more work done!
13:38:28 <gnif> as much as can be done has been done now
13:38:44 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Retweet: HostFission: @eevblog Should be good once the caches warm up :)
13:38:49 <gnif> there are still down routes at GorillaServers that are preventing our boxes communicating
13:39:44 <gnif> when this is fixed, I expect things to go a little haywire as the servers will try to sync up, and fail as GS moved us onto new hardware
13:40:06 <gnif> thus the bumpy ride part :)
13:40:26 <gnif> speakig of which, 502...
13:41:38 <bdunham7> 502 has always been an occasional issue with the forum.
13:42:07 <gnif> it's just a generic error for one of about 10 things that can break
13:42:28 <gnif> in this instance it's just the peak loads running us out of PHP processes
13:42:45 <gnif> if we had both servers up we would be fine

14:23:07 <MrMobodies> what do you think I should do with the rats that are caught
14:23:13 <MrMobodies> set them free in a field
14:23:24 <MrMobodies> or put them in a cage to domesticate?

19:16:23 <steve30> hi
19:17:10 <doggyrat> i have to confess that i am not a real nerd , more a kind of high boon or high noob
19:18:05 <doggyrat> i started working with arduino and raspberry recently and as i do not have any technical background my progresses are very slow
19:18:54 <T3sl4> booooo
19:18:58 <T3sl4> out! out!
19:23:16 <steve30> I never got the hang of arduino programming
19:25:40 <anton> its really easy, there is a library for everything so you dont have to write any actual code
19:27:21 <steve30> yeah, that makes it easier
19:28:29 <doggyrat> i do agree with you anton, that is what i do i just adapt the code to my needs or i try to adapt that code to my needs
19:29:12 <T3sl4> it's not quite as basic as... BASIC
19:29:19 <T3sl4> but nearly as easy
19:31:48 <doggyrat> at the moment i do work on setting the lights on a led stripe and trying to declare functions to outsource each task
19:32:49 <anton> ws2812 led stripe?
19:33:43 <doggyrat> yes, i did buy 5m from aliexpress for about 25 Aus$

19:58:20 <doggyrat> T3sl4: what i need to learn too , is how to use the I/O pins of the raspberry , may be using python
19:58:51 <doggyrat> a friend did send me a python book which i should have started reading
20:00:43 <T3sl4> they're just devices in linux AFAIK
20:00:53 <T3sl4> i'm sure there's just a import gpio; and away you go

20:07:52 <doggyrat> does anyone of you can recommend an osd system that is free to program and can be used for fpv to show free designed shapes as overlay

23:44:52 <arch> arch has no access on #EEVblog, hence you can't confirm
23:46:55 <Reg7805> guys, just a question which CAD programs do yous use? I use KiCAD but the college wants me using Mutilsim/Ultibaord rubbish and they say multisim is industry standard.
23:47:07 <T3sl4> multisim lul
23:47:11 <arch> ^
23:47:22 <T3sl4> i mean, i've used it, it's usable
23:48:15 <T3sl4> it's better for sim than pcb, maybe it's standard in academic "industry"
23:48:37 <T3sl4> or more likely academics where NI has put in the promotional offerings
23:48:58 <Reg7805> yes it useable but the compoent database is missing a lot of components and the footprints are hard to find
