00:00:09 <Mekkis> "Golden Parachute Boon"
00:00:44 <Mekkis> "The society doesn't want you around anymore. You receive 57XP."
00:01:22 <Steven> i dont suggest giving that boon to mike brock
00:01:38 <Mekkis> which one? The Golden Parachute?
00:01:43 <Mekkis> neither do I
00:02:16 <Avatar> tell mike you're faking chronicle sheets mekkis
00:02:19 <Avatar> tell us what happens
00:02:31 <Avatar> make sure you give him proof so he knows you're not just pulling his leg either
00:02:34 <Mekkis> have you ever had to award more GP than the scenario lists as max gold?
00:03:05 <Steven> Nope
00:03:44 <Mekkis> there's at least one scenario that requires it
00:04:07 <Mekkis> well, that specifies it
00:04:30 <Steven> yeah well if you kick ass on eyes of the ten you can get a bonus 5PP
00:05:09 <Steven> yeah... thats right.
00:06:44 <Mekkis> Special Reward Note: If the PCs fight and defeat $NPC,
00:06:44 <Mekkis> reward them an additional 357 gp for each Tier. Killing
00:06:44 <Mekkis> $NPC, however, can seriously impact the end of this
00:06:44 <Mekkis> scenario. It is up to you to decide how it resolves. This
00:06:44 <Mekkis> additional 357 gp is not reflected in the “max gold” boxes
00:06:44 <Mekkis> on the chronicle sheet at the end of this scenario.
00:13:13 <Steven> 12 hours till pfs
00:13:18 <Steven> 10 till i leave the house for pfs
00:14:39 <Steven> maybe i should get my guy up to 18 con
00:15:11 <Steven> lol
00:15:39 <Steven> nah ill just get a belt

00:16:35 <Steven> !feat fast healer
00:16:39 <Hydrabot> Steven, FAST HEALER []Prereq: Con 13, Diehard, Endurance. You benefit greatly from your healing, be it from spells or natural healing.
00:16:40 <Hydrabot> Benefit: When you regain hit points by resting or through magical healing, you recover additional hit points equal to half your Constitution modifier (minimum +1). Source: APG
00:17:00 <Mekkis> what modules would you suggest be run at a con?
00:17:19 <Steven> ummmm none really
00:17:27 <Steven> modules take around 6hrs to complete normally
00:17:52 <Steven> which is generally over the 4hr timeslots they allow people
00:18:01 <Mekkis> not even in a double slot?
00:18:18 <Mekkis> in the Melbourne cons, we have 6 hr slots
00:18:45 <Steven> probably lower level modules
00:19:05 <Avatar> is there any impact for running an 11th level module for someone who is half way through level 11
00:19:05 <Mekkis> I did Murder's Mark last Sunday
00:19:31 <Steven> no avatar there is not
00:19:31 <Mekkis> Avatar, I think you get slightly more gold that if you'd just done scenarios
00:19:49 <Avatar> but I mean, can you get screwed in eyes of the ten in terms of experience requirements
00:19:56 <Mekkis> but when you hit 33XP or more, it gets dropped to 33XP
00:20:16 <Avatar> that's a bit shit
00:20:31 <Avatar> I don't know how to get 4 level 11 people together
00:20:40 <Mekkis> unless you've got the Golden Parachute boon :P
00:21:18 <Steven> with eyes of the ten
00:21:45 <Steven> your exp gets dropped to 33 and you get gold reduced on the chronical sheet
00:21:52 <Steven> for eyes of the ten
00:22:05 <Mekkis> gold reduced too?
00:22:37 <Steven> its deducted off the chronical sheet for every exp you are above 33
00:22:48 <Steven> unless they changed it in the new guide
00:23:13 <Steven> i was going to play it on ausk until i learned i get less gold
00:24:26 <Steven> so i leveled Folnor up to 33exp
00:24:35 <Steven> but then i started super healer
00:26:03 <Steven> because our core group decided to create some rather rediculously powerful characters and i needed to make one to keep them alive lol

02:07:08 <Avatar> best maneuvers are trip, dirty trick, steal
02:07:22 <Hydrazine> not grapple?
02:07:25 <MekkisScreen> is Quicken Spell-like ability legal?
02:07:32 <Ulzef> once people start complaining about the cheese there is no point trying to go back
02:07:39 <Hydrazine> Sweet. Guess Hoku isn't that cheese-filled after all.
02:07:49 <Avatar> oops, and grapple
02:07:58 <Hydrazine> Ah, thought so.
02:07:59 <Avatar> grapple goes without saying
02:08:24 <MekkisScreen> rapple requires standard action
02:08:29 <Hydrazine> Works on alot more stuff in PFS than 3.5
02:08:33 <MekkisScreen> like dirty trick and steal
02:08:37 <Hydrazine> Only if you aren't trying hard enough, Mekkis.
02:08:41 <Ulzef> dirty trick could work on defunct him blinding people would be awesome
02:08:53 <MekkisScreen> trip and disarm are attack actions
02:09:03 <Hydrazine> Hoku can grapple on an immediate soon.
02:09:17 <Ulzef> from turtle?
02:09:22 <Hydrazine> yep.
02:09:32 <MekkisScreen> I'm also not sold on butterfly sting
02:09:45 <Hydrazine> rapid grapple is also on the shopping list.
02:09:48 <Ulzef> standard manuevers get hit hard with everyone runnning crane though
02:10:06 <Hydrazine> Is that still a big thing?
02:10:16 <MekkisScreen> but.. next level I can start binding bearded devils...
02:10:16 <Ulzef> I slapped a black tentacles on the weekend
02:10:33 <MekkisScreen> never seen an NPC with crane
02:10:39 <Hydrazine> I considered making something that uses crane. I decided turtle tetori sounded more fun
02:11:06 <Ulzef> goodall wants to start running it on people cause he got cross about it at arc
02:11:16 <Ulzef> my pirate has crane
02:11:35 <Hydrazine> what is it, second tier crane is the scary bit?
02:11:51 <Hydrazine> especially on the < level 5 scene yeah?
02:12:06 <MekkisScreen> a mod full of monks with crane style and deflect arrows
02:12:42 <Hydrazine> At 1-5 tier that'd be pretty brutal.
02:14:21 <Avatar> I don't think black tentacles ever appears in a 1-5
02:14:29 <Avatar> it's a level 4 or 5 spell
02:14:38 <Avatar> caster level 7 minimum
02:17:56 <Avatar> nutella + mango ice cream = heaven
02:18:41 <Ulzef> gotta jet have l5r on tonight will talk later
02:20:52 <MekkisScreen> Avatar: did you message Damien?
02:21:52 <Avatar> no?
02:21:54 <Avatar> should I have
02:22:07 <Avatar> I messaged brock about my ice tomb question
02:22:15 <Avatar> still no ruling, surprise surprise
02:27:43 <Avatar> the archetype round was such a letdown

05:28:29 <Steven> its mort
05:31:16 <Nekhet> helo people
05:31:23 <Brunius> Hello
05:32:24 <Nekhet> I was looing online for more places to fuel my addiction to roleplaying games, and you guys popped up :)
05:32:34 <Nekhet> *looking
05:32:56 <Brunius> cool stuff
05:33:29 <Nekhet> Only problem might be, i'm in europe, and there's timezones
05:34:11 <Brunius> What time is it over there?
05:34:34 <Brunius> I feel like I've seen your name somewhere
05:34:55 <Nekhet> Are you active on the Paizo forums?
05:35:09 <Nekhet> it's 11:34 am
05:35:16 <Brunius> 9:34am here
05:35:41 <Brunius> So most of our games will be midnight or early morning
05:35:46 <Brunius> Not exactly ideal
05:36:33 <Brunius> But we do sometimes have games later
05:36:37 <Nekhet> No... But maybe i can find at least one that fits my schedule. One should be enough actually, since i play with my RL friends like every other day :P
05:36:39 <Brunius> Steven, care to weigh in?
05:37:54 Antichthon ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
05:38:13 <Nekhet> I'm generally a roleplay-focused player that prefers interesting character builds as opposed to optimized ones, and likes encounters that challenge and sometimes even kill the PCs or at least put them in significant peril
05:38:43 <Brunius> I get made fun of a bit for builds that aren't SUPER-OPTIMISED 1337
05:38:56 <Brunius> Or at least i think that's it
05:39:03 <Nekhet> Since i also Gm i know how hard that can be to balance, so yeah :)
05:39:08 <Nekhet> And the dice have always hated me
05:40:44 <Nekhet> I started roleplaying in freeform and semi-freeform systems, then went through more open systems like Fudge, then WoD, and then d&d and Pathfinder
05:40:54 <Nekhet> Kind of opposite of many people's rpg history
05:42:47 <Nekhet> Me and my friends have also done Warhammer fantasy and 40k, Deadlands, CoC, Cortex/Serenity, Iron Kingdoms, i probably won't be able to think of everything we've done
05:43:04 <Brunius> warmahordes?
05:43:08 <Brunius> malifaux?
05:43:15 <Brunius> Wash died :(
05:43:20 <Brunius> I had a sad today about that
05:43:42 <Nekhet> Hehe well in Serenity we played our own characters
05:44:02 <Nekhet> Who were basically a group of terrorists :D
05:44:15 <Nekhet> Sorry, freedom fighters XD
05:45:55 <Nekhet> I played Buck "Moose" Chang, an ex shock trooper in the independents wh has since gotten older and fatter and about 15years after the war he jumped at the first opportunityto correct what he thought of as his "betrayal" of the independents (going home after the war was over)
05:46:16 <Nekhet> and this guy is about half as intelligent as Jayne XD
05:46:49 <Brunius> Ha
05:48:26 <Nekhet> But he used to fly those suicide farm equipment fighters so he's the only one in the group that can fly ships (sort of) XD
05:49:31 <Nekhet> the awesome difference between our group and the guys on the show was, the guys on the showare all kind of good at what they do. Wash is a great pilot, Kaylee is an awesome mechanic, Simon is a genius doctor... We were all a buch of inept shmucks:D
05:49:45 <Nekhet> I have always loved playing inept shmucks.
05:49:54 <Brunius> heh
05:50:29 <Nekhet> it's a lot more satisfying when imperfect characters accomplish something
05:50:40 <Steven> YEAH BITCHES!!!!!!!!
05:50:44 <Brunius> Yeah, I know what you mean
05:50:49 <Steven> i finally beat FTL
05:50:49 <Nekhet> This can't be done as well in D&D, but to an extent it can :)
05:50:58 <Nekhet> yay!
05:51:38 <Steven> hey brunius... you know my life oracle Honey?
05:51:43 <Brunius> Nope
05:51:51 <Steven> i thought you played with her before
05:52:02 <Steven> well shes all help the sick and dying and what not
05:52:25 <Steven> well there was a guy who had taken a ton of wis damage today
05:52:28 <Steven> not part of our party
05:52:51 <Steven> and i was healing him telling him all about sarenrae
05:53:00 <Steven> and we was like, yeah sarenrae is a c*nt
05:53:19 <Steven> she pulled out a dagger, set it against his throat and was like, say it again i dare you
05:53:25 <Nekhet> XD
05:53:32 <Steven> and he was like i said sarenrae is a c*nt
05:53:43 <Steven> stab the dagger in his throat and leave it
05:53:44 <Nekhet> Ohh religious conflict! :)
05:53:55 <Steven> everyone at the table was like WTF HONEY!
05:54:07 Wrothmonk ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
05:54:15 <Nekhet> Well that isn't a very Serenae thing to do, but everyone's fuse has a certain length :D
05:55:05 <Steven> She's a life oracle who's backstory is that she was called upon by sarenrae to go forth and heal the sick and injured
05:55:42 <Steven> and she decided to hug her diety resulting in burns along her arms
05:56:02 <Steven> so... shes kind of crazy when it comes to her god... and aparantly when someone insults her god
05:56:09 <Nekhet> Ohh... Hugging the sun goddess sounds like a pretty bad idea.
05:56:16 <Nekhet> And here i refuse to make a pun about how she is hot.
05:57:17 <Steven> also put another name on her list of 'people i wont heal'
05:57:25 * Nekhet chuckles
05:57:28 <kapow> what now
05:58:24 <Nekhet> The only very religious type i play, and probably my favorite character atm, is a paladin of Iomedae whom i made when my friends all talked about how they hate paladins and never would want to play with ine (and i also previously hated paladins) so i was like guys, i'll make a paladin you won't hateand hell play with you in our next game
05:58:40 <Brunius> My paladin is lawful stupid :D
05:59:05 <Nekhet> So i made this guy, and now everyone in kind of endlessly entertained by him (including me)
05:59:09 <Brunius> Also, every time he tried to protect innocents, Mekkis' character DDoors out :(
06:01:07 <kapow> wow
06:01:09 <kapow> mort was in here
06:01:10 <kapow> wtf!
06:01:28 <Steven> Currently on the list is a devout atheist who repeatedly used Infernal healing on himself instead of letting honey heal him, A Shadow Dancer who said his shadow companion is more important then an innocent, and a cleric who channeled negative energy in a crowded bar.
06:01:56 Brunius- ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
06:03:47 * Nekhet laughs
06:03:52 <Nekhet> Ah, good times :P
06:04:40 <Steven> yeah shes all about forgiveness and redemption... until you piss her off, she has a mean streak
06:04:43 <kapow> hahahaha
06:04:48 <kapow> I know that cleric :P
06:05:05 <Nekhet> Compared to most paladins, mine is extremely tolerant of everything but straight up pointless evil.
06:05:47 Brunius-- has quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
06:05:51 <Steven> yeah the GM tonight was like um... Evil act?
06:06:04 <Nekhet> I have found that the problem of paladins is usually that they're stuckup, self-righteous, and complete party poopers when it comes to party dynamics
06:06:08 <Steven> and i was like yeah, you can mark it on my sheet... i doubt sarenrae would be upset
06:06:35 <Nekhet> And they judge everyone and everything
06:06:53 <Steven> also... im an oracle, dont technically need to be a worshiper of sarenrae
06:07:18 <Nekhet> Right :)
06:07:43 <Nekhet> Well, if you suddenly renounced her, bad things might happen, but technically you don't need to be
06:08:09 <Nekhet> My paladin is mostly scared shitless of iomedae too beause he constantly feels like he's failing her and infringing against her XD
06:09:40 <Steven> tonight was so much fun... i was high off of some muscle relaxer and pain pills while playing pfs
06:10:17 <Nekhet> what happened to you?
06:10:20 <Steven> oh oh oh... also, the blaster oracle in our party
06:10:39 <Nekhet> I'm sure you can play a conincing oracle when you're high on pills :P
06:10:46 <Nekhet> *convincing
06:11:04 <Steven> they worshiped sarenrae too and when i said sarenrae wouldnt mind me stabbing him for calling her a cunt
06:11:35 <Steven> i was like actually sarenrae wouldnt mind and quoted her some stuff from Faiths of Purity
06:11:51 <Steven> where it says its totaly fine to bring swift justice to evil doers
06:12:28 <Nekhet> True, but wouldn't she probably be kind of forgiving toward a mortal insulting her?
06:12:49 <Nekhet> If he was actually doing evil, like trying to kill innocents, etc.. sure
06:13:09 <Steven> it was an assassin
06:13:11 <Nekhet> At least i get a sort of forgiving impression from Serenae
06:13:30 <Steven> shes all about redemption, but spurn her and you get the swift justice
06:13:59 <Nekhet> Yeah, these things can always be interpreted in many ways
06:14:10 <Nekhet> Like here's an interesting situation
06:15:41 <Nekhet> The rogue (your typical gambler, alcoholic, womanizer, serial lier and cheater type) saved my paladin's life at some point.
06:16:26 <Nekhet> So of course my paladin promised he would do anything to repay him at the first opportunity, and that his bravery would not go unrewarded.
06:16:53 <Nekhet> Then the rogue asks him to break the law and commit a crime with him, because no one else wants to come.
06:17:35 <Nekhet> He did promise, and does owe this guy his life, so it would be unfair to refuse, and commiting this crime would also help him and his friends get ahead in their task that is ultimately for the good of everyone.
06:17:51 <Nekhet> But if you start commiting evil acts and justifying them as "for the greater good" you will quickly fall to the path of evil
06:18:46 <Nekhet> To make matters worse, the rogue actually called him on his promise, when no one wanted to go with him. He was like "Hey, you owe me your life, won't you come and help?"
06:19:40 <Nekhet> Also since he's not stupid, he knows that if things go awry the thief will bail and leave him behind to be held responsible.
06:20:36 <Nekhet> So yeah, figure out what Iomedae would want in this freaking situation XD
06:22:38 <Steven> Easy, go with him, but refuse to break the law
06:23:12 <Nekhet> Can't be done
06:23:25 <Steven> yeah it can, you just arent seeing the possibilities
06:23:42 <Nekhet> Going with him entals actively having to help him steal
06:24:06 <Hydrazine> I think the better step would've been that you'll do anything for him.. but not cross your code. That as a paladin, you would much rather die than break your oaths. But too late for that now, huh?
06:24:35 <Steven> no, you just say I will keep watch while you do whatever it is you are going to do in the house
06:24:38 <Nekhet> Yeah well, one of his oath is never break an oath you made :D
06:24:38 <Steven> factory
06:24:43 <Steven> warehouse... whatever
06:25:09 <Nekhet> Right, but saying that isn't breaking the law is like saying holding the bag isn't stealing as much as throwing things into it
06:25:26 <Hydrazine> Thats my point; Nekhet. Be more careful about the oaths you swear in the first place, to not get in the mess where you can be oath-sworn to break your code.
06:25:41 <Steven> You are not breaking the law...
06:25:49 <Steven> and after he comes out of the house.... BAM bust his ass
06:25:59 <Steven> cause its part of your job to catch criminals
06:26:02 <Nekhet> Well, that's the thing, my character is a very inexpereienced guy, and it makes sense he would prmise things to people, unable to predict how things could go wrong :)
06:26:23 <Nekhet> Bust someone that saved your life, riskng his own?
06:26:31 <Steven> he's a criminal
06:26:56 <Nekhet> True, but wouldn't that be a completely scumbaggy thing to do?
06:27:14 <Nekhet> He jumped in the water after my guy when he was drowning in his banded mail :)
06:27:27 <Steven> nobody said you couldnt be an asshole while being a paladin
06:27:31 <Nekhet> And now he would bust him?
06:27:38 S711 has quit (Quit: For England, James?)
06:27:39 <Hydrazine> But going on the assumption that its too late for that; hm. Lots of interpretation, I think my gut answer is to help, but let him know right from the start that you will only do this much and not more.
06:27:42 <Nekhet> Well, that's my point, my guy is not an asshole :D
06:27:50 <Hydrazine> Nobody said you HAD to be an asshole while being a paladin either.
06:28:29 <Nekhet> He would even offer a stanger a chance at redemption, leave alone a friend who saved his life, even if he's a thief
06:29:21 <Steven> so... save the thiefs life by knocking him out and preventing him from commiting the crime
06:29:38 <Nekhet> My idea was to go with him, ultimately, but to keep an eye on what he does, making sure he only takes what we really need... And try to avoid them getting busted because if they do, it'll be my character that's caught, not the thief.
06:29:38 <Steven> you are 'helping' him out
06:30:17 <Nekhet> That could also be done, but i'm afraid knocing him out would not be so easy :D
06:30:57 <Nekhet> He is pretty evasive and a capable combatant, and my character is not the biggest combat badass you'd find among paladins :)
06:30:57 <Hydrazine> An asshole paladin is just as difficult to have in the party as Mr. Kill everything chaotic evil. Depends on the party ofcourse.
06:31:42 <Hydrazine> But I have lynched a party member in a game before; because his actions were so far out of alignment with the rest of the party.
06:31:49 <Nekhet> Yeah. And god knows i've played with those paladins and really hate them, and that's what led me to making this character
06:31:50 <Steven> you dont always have to be an asshole
06:32:08 <Steven> selective assholism is extremely effective
06:32:15 * Nekhet chuckles
06:32:26 <Hydrazine> Thats Steve's personal motto right there.
06:32:32 <Nekhet> Well picture this guy has not a single bad bone in his body
06:32:40 <Nekhet> because that's how he is XD
06:33:03 <Steven> Assholism its extremely effective
06:33:33 <Nekhet> I do play some characters who are assholes, but not this guy :P
06:34:14 <Nekhet> my witch is kind of an asshole XD
07:42:40 Wrothmonk has quit (Client exited)
08:09:51 <Mekkis> unless there are a hell of a lot of animal companions who go invisible, it should be fine
08:10:30 <Mekkis> ka
08:10:31 <Mekkis> pow
08:10:44 <kapow> hey mek
08:11:06 <kapow> hows life in the south?
08:11:11 <kapow> is your family alright here in brisbane?
08:12:09 <Mekkis> yeah. Top of a hill and everything
08:12:20 <Mekkis> blackout for 36 hours
08:12:23 <kapow> we're top of a hill
08:12:34 <kapow> still lost power for about that yeah
08:12:37 <Mekkis> and my server's uptime is now over :(
08:12:37 <kapow> a bit more
08:12:51 <kapow> oh no!
08:13:15 <Mekkis> it's a tragedy!
08:13:31 <Mekkis> actually, I'm not sure if it's up again
08:14:08 <Mekkis> turns out a UPS doesn't work if someone turns if off because they're annoyed at the beeping
08:15:48 Wrothmonk ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
08:15:50 <Mekkis> kapow, do you have your WotW character built?
08:16:59 <Steven> scared him of
08:17:17 <Mekkis> I told you my social skills need work
08:17:30 <Steven> its okay... you'll get there
08:17:52 * Steven sings clutch songs... poorly
08:18:34 <Steven> quick kapow run... mekkis wants to pester you with questions
08:19:23 <Steven> hmmmmm..... first level feat for my magus
08:19:49 <Mekkis> spell focus divination
08:19:59 <Mekkis> prone shooter
08:22:19 <Wrothmonk> Is naming a illusionary wizard "Hue" to blatant of a reference?
08:22:22 <Wrothmonk> too*
08:22:24 <Steven> 10, 16, 16, 16, 9, 9 for magus stats
08:22:46 <Avatar> why 9, drop to 7
08:22:52 <Steven> racial
08:22:58 <Avatar> what race
08:23:13 <Steven> aasimar, Periblooded
08:23:17 <Mekkis> yes
08:23:39 <Steven> only available race that doesnt take a hit to con for a bonus to int
08:23:50 <Steven> except humans and the halfs
08:24:00 <Mekkis> your charactter names should not have real-world references
08:24:00 <Avatar> what else does it give you
08:24:03 <Steven> and i really like darkvision
08:24:10 <Avatar> half-orc
08:24:24 <Steven> pyrotechnics as a spell like ability
08:24:35 <Avatar> I mean in terms of stats
08:24:37 <Steven> kn planes and spellcraft
08:24:42 <Steven> 2 int 2 cha
08:25:10 <Wrothmonk> Alright. Guess I'll have to figure out an original name then.
08:26:17 <Mekkis> pyrotechnics is never bad
08:26:37 <Mekkis> does protection from evil work against feeblemind?
08:26:50 <Steven> why would it?
08:27:09 <Mekkis> what about the clear spindle in the wayfinder?
08:27:13 <Steven> weapon finesse at first level i guess
08:27:23 <Steven> no, why would it?
08:27:42 <Mekkis> because I haven't read it recently
08:27:51 <kapow> and no mekk will make sure its up by sunday
08:27:58 <kapow> we got tpk'd tonight
08:28:02 <Steven> it doesnt seek to control your actions... it just makes you stupid
08:28:04 <Mekkis> ooh
08:28:06 <kapow> and the second one came close too
08:28:08 <Mekkis> in Tsar?
08:28:12 <kapow> no
08:28:14 <Mekkis> what scenario?
08:28:16 <kapow> pfs
08:28:24 <kapow> the dissapeared
08:28:28 <Mekkis> ooh
08:28:31 <kapow> the bearded devils
08:28:32 <Mekkis> don't say any more
08:28:37 <Mekkis> I haven't played it
08:28:41 <Steven> yeah.... they almost killed honey...
08:28:42 <kapow> yeah
08:28:44 <kapow> 4 man party all str based
08:29:04 <kapow> we had an average str of 18
08:29:07 <Mekkis> last bearded devil encounter I had killed some party members
08:29:08 <kapow> in a party of 4
08:29:22 <Mekkis> something to do with Deceased "collateral damage" Estate
08:29:52 <kapow> well situational and location allowed for it not to be a tpk
08:29:52 <Steven> i suppose i could go half orc....
08:29:57 <kapow> but had it been located elsewhere
08:29:59 <Steven> I do enjoy playing halforcs
08:30:02 <kapow> it would of been an outright tpk
08:30:17 <Mekkis> there was a near-TPK at arcanacon
08:30:44 <Mekkis> in Storming the Diamond Gate
08:31:14 <Steven> what... how?
08:31:15 <Avatar> ps. who wants to play storming the diamond gate ?
08:31:29 <Steven> was it the higher teir?
08:31:33 <Mekkis> that's the 3-7 right?
08:31:35 <Avatar> yeah
08:31:40 <Avatar> yeap
08:31:40 <Mekkis> oh
08:31:59 <Steven> i am confused... how did they nearly get a TPK?
08:32:30 <Avatar> dunno, we weren't there
08:32:31 <Mekkis> in the final encounter, the [Spoiler Omitted] cast [Spoiler Omitted], causing the party to be trapped, except for one character with an acrobatics out the arse.
08:32:32 <Steven> the scenario gives you everything you need to not even fight the end boss if you dont want.
08:33:03 <Mekkis> he was under the [Spoiler omitted] and was forced to run back to absalom before the effect wore off
08:33:19 <Avatar> if you have to say spoiler omitted, you shouldn't be talking about it
08:33:29 <Avatar> this is a scenario we could run
08:33:29 <Steven> Honey played in it and we killed exactly one person the entire scenario
08:33:50 <Mekkis> Ultzen survived :)
08:35:06 <Mekkis> how is his character spelled?
08:35:06 <Steven> okay... halforc bound blade magus.... 16/10/16/16/9/7
08:36:07 <Steven> or i could go 14/10/16/16/10/10
08:36:13 <Steven> no dumpstats
08:37:55 <Avatar> just go 14/14/14/14/10/10
08:38:02 <Mekkis> I thought you were going dex-based
08:38:18 <Steven> i will be if i got aasimar
08:38:25 <Steven> if i go half orc ill be going str based
08:38:27 <Mekkis> 15/14/12/12/12/12
08:38:44 <Mekkis> maybe a different order
08:39:27 <Steven> I really want a good decent con score... so im firm on the 16 con
08:40:15 <Mekkis> 16's not "decent", it's "good"
08:40:39 <Steven> in my book 18 is good, 20 is high
08:40:54 <Avatar> both of those are insane high
08:41:09 <Avatar> it's exceptional to put 18 in con, let alone 20
08:41:18 <Avatar> even 16 is high
08:43:11 <Steven> yeah 14/12/16/16/10/8
08:43:48 <Steven> Half Orc Blade Bound Magus
08:43:50 <Steven> hey insider
08:43:58 <Steven> scared him off
08:44:07 <Steven> im okay with it though...
08:44:54 Wrothmonk has quit (Client exited)
08:47:15 <Steven> seriously kapow.. you gotta fix your connection man
08:48:44 <Avatar> yeah it's a bit of a joke
08:50:52 <Mekkis> Steven, do you have the Skilled Forgery Boon?
08:51:19 <Avatar> you wouldn't because it's a fake boon that mekkis made himself to look like a real chronicle sheet
08:51:45 <Steven> well the answer is no
08:52:19 <Steven> if its fake or not the answer is still no....
08:52:53 <Mekkis> I'll be giving one to Brock :S
08:53:07 <Steven> i... dont suggest that
08:53:34 <Steven> i suggest giving him two
08:53:48 <Steven> that way he can keep one and can give one away to one of his friends
08:55:07 <Mekkis> sounds good
08:55:37 <Steven> also... expect an audit of your character lol
08:57:00 <Steven> i think with this magus im going to go Tenacious survivor
08:57:26 <Steven> lol
08:57:34 <Mekkis> Steven, Brock audits a lot?
08:58:05 <Steven> no, but if you present him a boon that looks like it came from his company
08:58:17 <Steven> then he might be a bit suspicious
08:59:03 <Mekkis> I have a chronicle sheet for 2.5XP :P
08:59:44 <Avatar> I have a chronicle sheet for 10 XP
08:59:47 <Avatar> I made it myself
09:00:07 <Avatar> tomorrow I will be making one for 20 XP
09:00:08 <Mekkis> mine's not homemade
09:00:23 <Avatar> and it gives a +20 to perception too
09:00:42 <Mekkis> "Golden Parachute Boon"
09:01:17 <Mekkis> "The society doesn't want you around anymore. You receive 57XP."
09:01:54 <Steven> i dont suggest giving that boon to mike brock
09:02:11 <Mekkis> which one? The Golden Parachute?
09:02:16 <Mekkis> neither do I
09:02:49 <Avatar> tell mike you're faking chronicle sheets mekkis
09:02:52 <Avatar> tell us what happens
09:03:04 <Avatar> make sure you give him proof so he knows you're not just pulling his leg either
09:03:07 <Mekkis> have you ever had to award more GP than the scenario lists as max gold?
09:03:38 <Steven> Nope
09:04:17 <Mekkis> there's at least one scenario that requires it
09:04:40 <Mekkis> well, that specifies it
09:05:03 <Steven> yeah well if you kick ass on eyes of the ten you can get a bonus 5PP
09:05:41 <Steven> yeah... thats right.
09:07:17 <Mekkis> Special Reward Note: If the PCs fight and defeat $NPC,
09:07:17 <Mekkis> reward them an additional 357 gp for each Tier. Killing
09:07:17 <Mekkis> $NPC, however, can seriously impact the end of this
09:07:17 <Mekkis> scenario. It is up to you to decide how it resolves. This
09:07:17 <Mekkis> additional 357 gp is not reflected in the “max gold” boxes
09:07:18 <Mekkis> on the chronicle sheet at the end of this scenario.
09:13:46 <Steven> 12 hours till pfs
09:13:51 <Steven> 10 till i leave the house for pfs
09:15:12 <Steven> maybe i should get my guy up to 18 con
09:15:44 <Steven> lol
09:16:12 <Steven> nah ill just get a belt
09:16:32 <Steven> then abuse the Feat Fast Healer
09:16:51 <Steven> cast infernal healing on myself, fast healing 3 for 10 rounds
09:17:02 <Steven> !fast healer
09:17:08 <Steven> !feat fast healer
09:17:12 <Hydrabot> Steven, FAST HEALER []Prereq: Con 13, Diehard, Endurance. You benefit greatly from your healing, be it from spells or natural healing.
09:17:13 <Hydrabot> Benefit: When you regain hit points by resting or through magical healing, you recover additional hit points equal to half your Constitution modifier (minimum +1). Source: APG
09:17:33 <Mekkis> what modules would you suggest be run at a con?
09:17:52 <Steven> ummmm none really
09:18:00 <Steven> modules take around 6hrs to complete normally
09:18:24 <Steven> which is generally over the 4hr timeslots they allow people
09:18:34 <Mekkis> not even in a double slot?
09:18:51 <Mekkis> in the Melbourne cons, we have 6 hr slots
09:19:17 <Steven> probably lower level modules
09:19:38 <Avatar> is there any impact for running an 11th level module for someone who is half way through level 11
09:19:38 <Mekkis> I did Murder's Mark last Sunday
09:20:04 <Steven> no avatar there is not
09:20:04 <Mekkis> Avatar, I think you get slightly more gold that if you'd just done scenarios
09:20:21 <Avatar> but I mean, can you get screwed in eyes of the ten in terms of experience requirements
09:20:28 <Mekkis> but when you hit 33XP or more, it gets dropped to 33XP
09:20:48 <Avatar> that's a bit shit
09:21:03 <Avatar> I don't know how to get 4 level 11 people together
09:21:13 <Mekkis> unless you've got the Golden Parachute boon :P
09:21:50 <Steven> with eyes of the ten
09:22:17 <Steven> your exp gets dropped to 33 and you get gold reduced on the chronical sheet
09:22:24 <Steven> for eyes of the ten
09:22:37 <Mekkis> gold reduced too?
09:23:10 <Steven> its deducted off the chronical sheet for every exp you are above 33
09:23:21 <Steven> unless they changed it in the new guide
09:23:45 <Steven> i was going to play it on ausk until i learned i get less gold
09:24:58 <Steven> so i leveled Folnor up to 33exp
09:25:07 <Steven> but then i started super healer
09:26:36 <Steven> because our core group decided to create some rather rediculously powerful characters and i needed to make one to keep them alive lol

09:36:50 <Mekkis> how do you avoid a feeblemind?
09:41:18 <Wrothmonk> with a will save?
09:47:56 <Mekkis> I meant a more guaranteed method
09:48:05 <Wrothmonk> Counterspell?
09:49:16 kapow ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
09:49:24 kapow is now known as kapow_Office
09:49:26 <Mekkis> that pretty much requires readying, right?
09:49:37 <Wrothmonk> Yeah
09:49:59 <kapow_Office> ballig gave me a lecture on readying the other day
09:50:13 <kapow_Office> which i have never realized and i don't think i have ever seen a dm pull anyone up on
09:50:14 <kapow_Office> ever
09:50:25 <kapow_Office> in 10-12 years of play ever
09:50:28 <Mekkis> what was it?
09:50:48 <Mekkis> Ring of Counterspells it is then
09:51:00 <Wrothmonk> http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2n2xo?How-to-avoid-Feeblemind
09:51:26 * Steven whistles contentedly
09:52:12 <Mekkis> mmmm?
09:52:19 * Mekkis eyes Steven suspiciously
09:52:43 <Steven> the best way to avoid getting feebleminded is to have a contigancy spell cast on you
09:52:52 <Mekkis> !spell contingency
09:52:53 <Hydrabot> Mekkis, CONTINGENCY evocation ([]) sorcerer/wizard 6 at least 10 minutes; see text Range: personal you Comp: V, S, M (quicksilver and an eyelash of a spell-using creature), F (ivory statuette of you worth 1,500 gp) Duration: 1 day/level or until discharged Save: SR:
09:52:54 <Hydrabot> The description is too long to send over IRC. View http://nl.ti4200.info/vpsirc/spells/contingency.html
09:52:59 <Mekkis> Contingency heal?
09:53:05 <Steven> yup
09:53:21 <Mekkis> I'll remember that when I hit 13th
09:53:35 <Mekkis> ummm
09:53:37 <Mekkis> 21st
09:53:40 <Wrothmonk> seems rather expensive.
09:53:52 <Steven> your welcome... luckily not to many NPC creatures have feeblemind on their list of spells available to them
09:53:57 <Mekkis> contingency heal requires a CL of 21
09:54:05 <Wrothmonk> !!!
09:54:20 <Mekkis> Steven, two of my characters were hit by it at arcanacon...
09:54:27 <Mekkis> one of them failed his save
09:55:49 <Steven> i think its only present in like 5 scenarios
09:56:16 <Mekkis> I don't think my characters know that
09:56:26 <Steven> yeah, but im letting you know
09:56:32 <Steven> how do you figure CL of 21?
09:56:42 <Mekkis> The spell to be brought into effect by the contingency must be one that affects your person and be of a spell level no higher than one-third your caster level
09:57:13 <Steven> yeah, thats so cake to get around
09:57:22 <Wrothmonk> and heal is what level spell?
09:57:27 <Mekkis> (rounded down, maximum 6th level).
09:57:27 <Steven> 6th
09:57:34 <Mekkis> !spell heal
09:57:35 <Hydrabot> Mekkis, HEAL conjuration (healing[]) cleric 6, druid 7, alchemist 6, witch 7, inquisitor 6 1 standard action Range: touch creature touched Comp: V, S Duration: instantaneous Save: Will negates (harmless) SR:yes (harmless)
09:57:36 <Hydrabot> Heal enables you to channel positive energy into a creature to wipe away injury and afflictions. It immediately ends any and all of the following adverse conditions affecting the target: ability damage, blinded, confused, dazed, dazzled, deafened, diseased, exhausted, fatigued, feebleminded, insanity, nauseated, poisoned, sickened, and stunned. It
09:57:36 <Hydrabot> also cures 10 hit points of damage per level of the caster, to a maximum of 150 points at 15th level. Heal does not remove negative levels or restore permanently drained ability score points. If used against an undead creature, heal instead acts like harm.
09:58:08 <Wrothmonk> so level 18
09:58:54 <Wrothmonk> or 21 if your a druid or witch
09:58:59 <Mekkis> I suppose ring of counterspells is my best bet
09:59:01 <Steven> yeah
09:59:30 <Mekkis> !spell spell turning
09:59:31 <Hydrabot> Mekkis, SPELL TURNING abjuration ([]) sorcerer/wizard 7, summoner 5 1 standard action Range: personal you Comp: V, S, M/DF (a small silver mirror) Duration: until expended or 10 min./level Save: SR:

09:59:34 <Steven> You can of course UMD a scroll of Contigancy to fake a caster level
09:59:46 <Mekkis> how?
09:59:54 <Mekkis> I thought scrolls used minimum
09:59:57 <Steven> but thats spendy as fuuuuuuuuuck
10:00:19 <Wrothmonk> is it really worth it for the 5 scenarios you will encounter it in?
10:00:37 <Steven> probably not wroth, but as mekkis has said, his character doesnt know that
10:00:45 <Mekkis> Wrothmonk, all Deceased knows is that he was feebleminded and he doesn't want it to ever happen to him again
10:00:54 <Wrothmonk> Alright then.
10:01:14 <Wrothmonk> Wait, deceased?
10:01:23 <Wrothmonk> You named a character deceased?
10:01:30 <Mekkis> yeah
10:01:34 <Mekkis> Deceased Estate
10:01:42 <Wrothmonk> oh right.
10:01:44 <Mekkis> looks good on the Chelish taxation records
10:01:55 <Wrothmonk> Of course.
10:02:04 <Mekkis> he has a real name
10:02:06 <Steven> doesnt break enchantment work on feeblemind?
10:02:10 <Mekkis> no
10:02:34 <Mekkis> feeblemind is instantaneous
10:02:44 <Mekkis> hmm
10:02:50 <Steven> imma go look it up
10:02:50 <Mekkis> maybe it does
10:03:02 <Mekkis> but it's not guaranteed
10:03:17 <Steven> yeah... making a chest is always worse then auto succeed
10:03:39 <Mekkis> I had to pay for a heal
10:06:40 <kapow_Office> mekk you missed out last night man
10:06:49 <kapow_Office> cause of the tpk like an hour n a half in
10:06:59 <Mekkis> kapow_Office, you missed out last weekend man
10:06:59 <kapow_Office> we spent the next 3-4 hours story telling
10:07:04 <kapow_Office> about our adventures
10:07:05 <kapow_Office> ^_^
10:07:09 <kapow_Office> was awesome
10:07:14 <kapow_Office> and I played minecraft
10:07:18 <kapow_Office> until my power went out :(
10:07:29 <kapow_Office> then we played monopoly by candlelight
10:07:36 <kapow_Office> so i don't think i missed out too much
10:10:47 <Mekkis> oh you did
10:10:49 <Mekkis> :P
10:11:21 Steven has quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
10:14:44 <kapow_Office> have you ever play monopoly by candlelight?
10:15:52 <Mekkis> no, and I don't want to. Monopoly is a horrible game
10:15:56 <Mekkis> now, Settlers...
10:16:16 <Wrothmonk> mekkis, how can you hate monopoly and like Settlers
10:16:20 <kapow_Office> lol
10:16:24 <kapow_Office> i love all board games
10:16:30 <kapow_Office> but my flat mates wouldn't play risk :(
10:16:31 <Mekkis> because monopoly is a horrible game, and Settlers isn't?
10:16:50 <Wrothmonk> And you are a horribly confused person?
10:16:53 <Mekkis> no
10:17:02 <kapow_Office> last wednesday we played talisman
10:17:05 <kapow_Office> it was awesome!
10:17:09 <Wrothmonk> talisman?
10:17:36 <Mekkis> http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/2623.html
10:20:59 <Wrothmonk> Ok I concede to your point.
10:22:01 <kapow_Office> Talisman is amzing
10:22:02 <Wrothmonk> I just wiki'ed talisman, I remember playing that.
10:22:04 <kapow_Office> such a good game
10:22:05 <Wrothmonk> Its awsome.
10:22:06 <Wrothmonk> .
10:22:10 <kapow_Office> I murdered everyone ^_^
10:22:19 <Wrothmonk> And that is why it is awesome :D
10:24:39 <kapow_Office> no i was literally the assasin
10:24:45 <kapow_Office> and just walk around pvping people
10:24:47 <Wrothmonk> nice
10:24:48 <kapow_Office> with the amulet
10:24:58 <kapow_Office> so the wizard and cleric with his wand couldn't nuke me
10:30:05 <Brunius-> Woo English
10:30:59 <Mekkis> woo
10:31:09 <Wrothmonk> Hey kapow, have you ever played Munchkin?
10:38:23 <Steven> alright back
10:38:38 <Steven> so what is everyone doing today?
10:38:49 <kapow_Office> yup
10:46:47 <kapow_Office> you going to suck us all into a black hole yet mekkis or is that still a few years away yet?
10:47:23 <Wrothmonk> Well I don't think the next end of the world is coming for a few years.
10:47:45 <kapow> work in 8 hours
10:47:47 <kapow> sleep time
10:48:13 <kapow_Office> I dunno if mekkis is working on something top secret it's gotta be overpowered
10:49:22 <Mekkis> yeah. My next character
10:49:23 <Wrothmonk> Iron man armor?
10:49:53 <Mekkis> probably some form of symbol-using cheesemonkey

16:45:01 <Brunius> pfft
16:45:07 <Brunius> I guess it doesn't do mundane
16:45:13 <Hydrazine> Sounds like a good way to chop yourself in the leg, but I suppose its legal.
16:45:39 <Hydrazine> which one
16:45:43 <Hydrazine> is offhand?
16:45:56 <Brunius> The melee
16:45:58 <Brunius> I think
16:46:09 <Hydrazine> Why?
16:46:13 <Brunius> Because I don't think there's a light ranged weapon
16:46:20 <Hydrazine> If its both light, might as well shoot offhand.
16:46:37 <Brunius> Why?
16:46:38 <Hydrazine> half str for offhand melee
16:46:42 <Brunius> Ah
16:48:10 <Hydrazine> But I'm not sure if you can get a light one hand operated ranged weapon. hand crossbow maybe?
16:48:58 <Hydrazine> Either way, good luck.
16:49:12 <Ulzef> doesn't matter unless you attack with both in the same round if you melee when in melee and weapon cord shoot at ranged then pistol is better off hand.
16:50:11 <Hydrazine> If you don't do both in the same round, then theres no offhand penalty period.
16:50:36 <Ulzef> true
16:51:01 <Brunius> And since there's no 'preferred hand' mechanic, you don't even have to worry about it
16:51:02 <Brunius> At all
16:51:15 <Ulzef> however if you go with a piston you can get a axe pistol and still 2 wep fight melee and just shoot at ranged
16:51:15 <Hydrazine> Actually, not even completely true. At 6/1 bab you can attack with two different weapons exactly twice without penalties.
16:52:06 <Hydrazine> primary/offhand penalties only exist in twf rules.
16:53:40 <Hydrazine> Wouldn't need to with sword/pistol, Ulzef. The whole point is that he can shoot in melee.
16:53:47 <Hydrazine> But does it let you reload in melee too?
16:54:08 <Hydrazine> Hows the action economy for reloading while trying to full attack?
16:54:26 <Hydrazine> Ulzef might have a point in that a second melee would be better after the first round.
16:54:37 <Brunius> I think the consensus is that you have to reduce it to a free action
16:54:41 <Ulzef> it goes down when you have to wep cord the weapon back to hand
16:54:56 <Brunius> Which with a pistol is just a feat?
16:55:21 <Hydrazine> In order to attack more than once with a ranged weapon in a single round; yes, it has to be a free action reload.
16:55:57 <Hydrazine> Aren't you already pretty tight on feats?
16:56:14 <Brunius> A couple have a requirement of BAB 6
16:56:27 <Brunius> So I think I get 7 feats in 6 levels, the way I have it planned currently
16:56:42 <Brunius> Which happens to be the number I need...plus one
16:57:05 <Hydrazine> Gonna GM cred your way up there?
16:57:12 <Brunius> aw heil no
16:57:15 <Hydrazine> How effective is this before it all gets together?
16:57:19 <Brunius> No clue
16:57:35 <MekkisScreen> it doesn't survive a handaxe crit :P
16:57:37 <Hydrazine> Part of why my Supermonk build is highly impractical, is that hes absolute garbage until level 8 or so.

17:03:37 <MekkisScreen> given that he never used inproved disarm
17:03:43 <Hydrazine> Why not?
17:03:53 <MekkisScreen> it never came up
17:04:35 <Hydrazine> Huh.
17:04:52 <Hydrazine> I always thought disarm was one of the more useful maneuvers.
17:04:58 <MekkisScreen> should I get the raptor form, or is that overly cheesy
17:05:18 <MekkisScreen> I'm thinking it's too much cheese
17:05:30 <Ulzef> defunct is fairly cheesey as is might as well go all out
17:05:37 <Hydrazine> Is my cheese-o-meter still reasonably calibrated?
17:05:50 <MekkisScreen> probably not
17:06:20 <MekkisScreen> I never thought of it as 'Might as well go all out'
17:06:35 <Avatar> best maneuvers are trip, dirty trick, steal
17:06:49 <Hydrazine> not grapple?
17:06:53 <MekkisScreen> is Quicken Spell-like ability legal?
17:07:00 <Ulzef> once people start complaining about the cheese there is no point trying to go back
17:07:06 <Hydrazine> Sweet. Guess Hoku isn't that cheese-filled after all.
17:07:16 <Avatar> oops, and grapple
17:07:25 <Hydrazine> Ah, thought so.
17:07:27 <Avatar> grapple goes without saying
17:07:51 <MekkisScreen> rapple requires standard action
17:07:56 <Hydrazine> Works on alot more stuff in PFS than 3.5
17:08:00 <MekkisScreen> like dirty trick and steal
17:08:04 <Hydrazine> Only if you aren't trying hard enough, Mekkis.
17:08:08 <Ulzef> dirty trick could work on defunct him blinding people would be awesome
17:08:20 <MekkisScreen> trip and disarm are attack actions
17:08:31 <Hydrazine> Hoku can grapple on an immediate soon.
17:08:44 <Ulzef> from turtle?
17:08:49 <Hydrazine> yep.
17:09:00 <MekkisScreen> I'm also not sold on butterfly sting
17:09:12 <Hydrazine> rapid grapple is also on the shopping list.
17:09:15 <Ulzef> standard manuevers get hit hard with everyone runnning crane though
17:09:33 <Hydrazine> Is that still a big thing?
17:09:43 <MekkisScreen> but.. next level I can start binding bearded devils...
17:09:44 <Ulzef> I slapped a black tentacles on the weekend
17:10:01 <MekkisScreen> never seen an NPC with crane
17:10:06 <Hydrazine> I considered making something that uses crane. I decided turtle tetori sounded more fun
17:10:33 <Ulzef> goodall wants to start running it on people cause he got cross about it at arc
17:10:43 <Ulzef> my pirate has crane
17:11:02 <Hydrazine> what is it, second tier crane is the scary bit?
17:11:18 <Hydrazine> especially on the < level 5 scene yeah?
17:11:33 <MekkisScreen> a mod full of monks with crane style and deflect arrows
17:12:10 <Hydrazine> At 1-5 tier that'd be pretty brutal.
17:13:48 <Avatar> I don't think black tentacles ever appears in a 1-5

20:30:50 <Brunius> Hello
20:31:52 <Nekhet> I was looing online for more places to fuel my addiction to roleplaying games, and you guys popped up :)
20:32:01 <Nekhet> *looking
20:32:23 <Brunius> cool stuff
20:32:56 <Nekhet> Only problem might be, i'm in europe, and there's timezones
20:33:38 <Brunius> What time is it over there?
20:34:02 <Brunius> I feel like I've seen your name somewhere
20:34:23 <Nekhet> Are you active on the Paizo forums?
20:34:37 <Nekhet> it's 11:34 am
20:34:43 <Brunius> 9:34am here
20:35:08 <Brunius> So most of our games will be midnight or early morning
20:35:13 <Brunius> Not exactly ideal
20:36:00 <Brunius> But we do sometimes have games later
20:36:05 <Nekhet> No... But maybe i can find at least one that fits my schedule. One should be enough actually, since i play with my RL friends like every other day :P
20:36:06 <Brunius> Steven, care to weigh in?
20:37:40 <Nekhet> I'm generally a roleplay-focused player that prefers interesting character builds as opposed to optimized ones, and likes encounters that challenge and sometimes even kill the PCs or at least put them in significant peril
20:38:11 <Brunius> I get made fun of a bit for builds that aren't SUPER-OPTIMISED 1337
20:38:23 <Brunius> Or at least i think that's it
20:38:30 <Nekhet> Since i also Gm i know how hard that can be to balance, so yeah :)
20:38:36 <Nekhet> And the dice have always hated me
20:40:11 <Nekhet> I started roleplaying in freeform and semi-freeform systems, then went through more open systems like Fudge, then WoD, and then d&d and Pathfinder
20:40:22 <Nekhet> Kind of opposite of many people's rpg history
20:42:15 <Nekhet> Me and my friends have also done Warhammer fantasy and 40k, Deadlands, CoC, Cortex/Serenity, Iron Kingdoms, i probably won't be able to think of everything we've done
20:42:31 <Brunius> warmahordes?
20:42:35 <Brunius> malifaux?
20:42:43 <Brunius> Wash died :(
20:42:47 <Brunius> I had a sad today about that
20:43:10 <Nekhet> Hehe well in Serenity we played our own characters
20:43:29 <Nekhet> Who were basically a group of terrorists :D
20:43:42 <Nekhet> Sorry, freedom fighters XD
20:45:23 <Nekhet> I played Buck "Moose" Chang, an ex shock trooper in the independents wh has since gotten older and fatter and about 15years after the war he jumped at the first opportunityto correct what he thought of as his "betrayal" of the independents (going home after the war was over)
20:45:43 <Nekhet> and this guy is about half as intelligent as Jayne XD
20:46:17 <Brunius> Ha
20:47:53 <Nekhet> But he used to fly those suicide farm equipment fighters so he's the only one in the group that can fly ships (sort of) XD
20:48:58 <Nekhet> the awesome difference between our group and the guys on the show was, the guys on the showare all kind of good at what they do. Wash is a great pilot, Kaylee is an awesome mechanic, Simon is a genius doctor... We were all a buch of inept shmucks:D
20:49:12 <Nekhet> I have always loved playing inept shmucks.
20:49:22 <Brunius> heh
20:49:56 <Nekhet> it's a lot more satisfying when imperfect characters accomplish something
20:50:08 <Steven> YEAH BITCHES!!!!!!!!
20:50:11 <Brunius> Yeah, I know what you mean
20:50:16 <Steven> i finally beat FTL
20:50:16 <Nekhet> This can't be done as well in D&D, but to an extent it can :)
20:50:25 <Nekhet> yay!
20:51:05 <Steven> hey brunius... you know my life oracle Honey?
20:51:10 <Brunius> Nope
20:51:18 <Steven> i thought you played with her before
20:51:30 <Steven> well shes all help the sick and dying and what not
20:51:52 <Steven> well there was a guy who had taken a ton of wis damage today
20:51:55 <Steven> not part of our party
20:52:18 <Steven> and i was healing him telling him all about sarenrae
20:52:27 <Steven> and we was like, yeah sarenrae is a c*nt
20:52:47 <Steven> she pulled out a dagger, set it against his throat and was like, say it again i dare you
20:52:52 <Nekhet> XD
20:53:00 <Steven> and he was like i said sarenrae is a c*nt
20:53:10 <Steven> stab the dagger in his throat and leave it
20:53:11 <Nekhet> Ohh religious conflict! :)
20:53:22 <Steven> everyone at the table was like WTF HONEY!
20:53:42 <Nekhet> Well that isn't a very Serenae thing to do, but everyone's fuse has a certain length :D
20:54:32 <Steven> She's a life oracle who's backstory is that she was called upon by sarenrae to go forth and heal the sick and injured
20:55:09 <Steven> and she decided to hug her diety resulting in burns along her arms
20:55:30 <Steven> so... shes kind of crazy when it comes to her god... and aparantly when someone insults her god
20:55:36 <Nekhet> Ohh... Hugging the sun goddess sounds like a pretty bad idea.
20:55:43 <Nekhet> And here i refuse to make a pun about how she is hot.
20:55:50 kapow ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
20:56:44 <Steven> also put another name on her list of 'people i wont heal'
20:56:52 * Nekhet chuckles
20:56:55 <kapow> what now
20:57:51 <Nekhet> The only very religious type i play, and probably my favorite character atm, is a paladin of Iomedae whom i made when my friends all talked about how they hate paladins and never would want to play with ine (and i also previously hated paladins) so i was like guys, i'll make a paladin you won't hateand hell play with you in our next game
20:58:08 <Brunius> My paladin is lawful stupid :D
20:58:32 <Nekhet> So i made this guy, and now everyone in kind of endlessly entertained by him (including me)
20:58:36 <Brunius> Also, every time he tried to protect innocents, Mekkis' character DDoors out :(

21:00:56 <Steven> Currently on the list is a devout atheist who repeatedly used Infernal healing on himself instead of letting honey heal him, A Shadow Dancer who said his shadow companion is more important then an innocent, and a cleric who channeled negative energy in a crowded bar.

21:04:10 <kapow> hahahaha
21:04:16 <kapow> I know that cleric :P
21:04:33 <Nekhet> Compared to most paladins, mine is extremely tolerant of everything but straight up pointless evil.
21:05:18 <Steven> yeah the GM tonight was like um... Evil act?
21:05:31 <Nekhet> I have found that the problem of paladins is usually that they're stuckup, self-righteous, and complete party poopers when it comes to party dynamics
21:05:35 <Steven> and i was like yeah, you can mark it on my sheet... i doubt sarenrae would be upset
21:06:02 <Nekhet> And they judge everyone and everything
21:06:20 <Steven> also... im an oracle, dont technically need to be a worshiper of sarenrae
21:06:45 <Nekhet> Right :)
21:07:11 <Nekhet> Well, if you suddenly renounced her, bad things might happen, but technically you don't need to be
21:07:36 <Nekhet> My paladin is mostly scared shitless of iomedae too beause he constantly feels like he's failing her and infringing against her XD
21:09:07 <Steven> tonight was so much fun... i was high off of some muscle relaxer and pain pills while playing pfs
21:09:09 kapow has quit (EOF from client)
21:09:44 <Nekhet> what happened to you?

21:10:06 <Nekhet> I'm sure you can play a conincing oracle when you're high on pills :P
21:10:13 <Nekhet> *convincing
21:10:31 <Steven> they worshiped sarenrae too and when i said sarenrae wouldnt mind me stabbing him for calling her a cunt
21:11:02 <Steven> i was like actually sarenrae wouldnt mind and quoted her some stuff from Faiths of Purity
21:11:18 <Steven> where it says its totaly fine to bring swift justice to evil doers
21:11:56 <Nekhet> True, but wouldn't she probably be kind of forgiving toward a mortal insulting her?
21:12:16 <Nekhet> If he was actually doing evil, like trying to kill innocents, etc.. sure
21:12:37 <Steven> it was an assassin
21:12:39 <Nekhet> At least i get a sort of forgiving impression from Serenae
21:12:46 Hydrazine ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
21:12:57 <Steven> shes all about redemption, but spurn her and you get the swift justice
21:13:26 <Nekhet> Yeah, these things can always be interpreted in many ways
21:13:38 <Nekhet> Like here's an interesting situation
21:15:08 <Nekhet> The rogue (your typical gambler, alcoholic, womanizer, serial lier and cheater type) saved my paladin's life at some point.
21:15:10 kapow has quit (EOF from client)
21:15:53 <Nekhet> So of course my paladin promised he would do anything to repay him at the first opportunity, and that his bravery would not go unrewarded.
21:16:20 <Nekhet> Then the rogue asks him to break the law and commit a crime with him, because no one else wants to come.
21:16:34 kapow ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
21:17:03 <Nekhet> He did promise, and does owe this guy his life, so it would be unfair to refuse, and commiting this crime would also help him and his friends get ahead in their task that is ultimately for the good of everyone.
21:17:18 <Nekhet> But if you start commiting evil acts and justifying them as "for the greater good" you will quickly fall to the path of evil
21:33:46 <***> Buffer Playback...
21:33:46 <***> Playback Complete.
21:34:29 <Nekhet> but that's completely excusable since she's a middle aged elf

21:38:14 <Hydrazine> I disagree that a single view can cover all the complexities of people.
21:39:44 <Hydrazine> That elves enter a chrysalis at ~200 years and exit swept clean of decency; pure in their egotistical assholery.

21:42:09 <Nekhet> She for example got into conflict with our ranger because she did not show him a certain artifact they found because "She did not wish to trouble him with arcane mysteries beyond his comprehesion" :D

21:54:01 <Nekhet> And i'd argue that if you make a middle aged elf that is not an asshole, you need at least some kind of background justification as to what kept them from getting arrogant or feeling superior - and if you make one that is an asshole, you can easily explain it by their age and race alone.

22:24:05 <Nekhet> I'll probably e a VL pretty soon too. Not sure if i should be looking forward to that or not. Probably not :P
22:27:26 <Mekkis> Nekhet, where of
22:29:50 <Nekhet> Slovenia
22:30:41 <Mekkis> Cool. What's the scene like there?
22:31:33 <Mekkis> Deceased is one of those elves that is an arsehole
22:32:25 <Nekhet> There is no scene. Me and my 5 geeky friends are the scene.
22:32:50 <Nekhet> There is one sole games shop in the whole country and even that is more of a gothic accessory/toy shop than a game shop
22:33:49 <Nekhet> We were able to get a group of about 20 people who have ben coming to our PFS sessions for the past 2 months
22:33:59 <Nekhet> but not more than 10 at a time
22:35:25 <Nekhet> The mentality of people here is not very promising for tabletop RPG gaming, but we are trying all we can to get people to come

22:40:19 <Steven> you should probably be annoyed as i get about 20 times a week with people
22:41:29 <Nekhet> 20 times a week?
22:42:25 <Steven> yeah just with people bugging me for stuff to do with pathfinder
22:42:26 <Steven> society
22:43:38 <Nekhet> Yeah i have to do work for PFS all the time, too
22:44:12 <Nekhet> People don't ueven have the decency to sign up on Warhorn, they just show up and exect us to have everything ready for them
22:44:58 <Steven> pfffffffft thats nothin man
22:45:01 <Nekhet> Also they constantly lose their chronicles, mess up their inventories, etc..
22:45:23 <Steven> just wait till you gotta deal with a cheater
22:45:42 <Nekhet> Well yeah some people will try to cheat, of course
22:45:49 <Steven> or someone who knowingly creates an illegal build
22:46:08 <Nekhet> And one of my friends is such an awul metagamer sometimes (otherwise great guy) i simply had to ban him from replaying scenarios, at least the ones i run
22:46:23 <Hydrazine> Or GMs who go out of their way to mess with the players
22:46:38 <Steven> *cough cough* bobby *cough cough*
22:47:11 <Nekhet> With GMing it can sometimes be tough. I don'twant people to feel like they're untouchable and they can just do anything they want and no one will die. Butthen i also don't want to be too "evil" :D
22:47:40 <Steven> although this week i did steal a kill from a PC from an NPC tackling the guy and shoving a dagger through his chest
22:47:42 <Hydrazine> Well theres different views on proper GMing.
22:48:16 <Nekhet> Yeah. Some people prefer harder GMs while others believe PCs shouldn't die
22:49:05 <Nekhet> I had one guy totaly blow up on me one time at a con, he was like "That encounter was bullshit! We could have DIED!"
22:49:26 <Nekhet> And i'm like um.... You're on an adventure. It's kinda dangerous.
22:49:27 <Hydrazine> Part of my bad experiences with GMs.. I was playing a high dex defensive monk; easily the toughest one in the party. So I walked in front. Even mindless enemies would go right past me without even taking a swing and aim for easier targets.
22:49:45 <Steven> a PC should probably die about once every 3-4 scenarios you GM... thats the expected
22:50:27 <Hydrazine> This is adventuring! If you wanted safety, go roleplay a gardener!
22:50:28 <Nekhet> Funny enough, this is the guy who, when he GMs, will throw a half-dragon half-fey undead pixie antipaladin/wizard at his players
22:51:17 <Nekhet> I wold not even want to begin to ask him what the story behind that is XD
22:52:44 <Nekhet> And then when they meet three level 1 warriors and one level 1 wizard as a level 1/2 party, he moans about how they "Could have DIED!" :D
22:52:58 <Hydrazine> Kids these days.
22:53:10 <Hydrazine> Hey man.. level 1 wizards are scary. Color spray can easily TPK.
22:53:35 <Nekhet> Yeah but this was a society scenario and f course the wizard did not have colr spray prepared XD
22:53:54 <Hydrazine> Just because its Society means no color spray? since when?
22:54:04 <Nekhet> But stuff like acid splash, magic missile and disguise self
22:54:08 <Hydrazine> I got color sprayed as a level 1 in Society.
22:54:21 <Nekhet> Yeah some society wizards do ave it but this one didn't
22:54:45 <Nekhet> And i'm not about to Spoony the whole thing and change the spells a society character hasprepared
22:54:53 <Nekhet> because that's, as far as i know, not exactly by the rules :D
22:55:30 <Hydrazine> You are supposed to run the encounters as written.
22:55:40 <Nekhet> Exactly, so i do :D
22:55:52 <Hydrazine> I do remember a quite amusing bit where our party wizard hit two mounted enemies with glitterdust.
22:55:56 <Nekhet> If a wizard doesn't have color spray in the book, they don't have it
22:56:04 <Hydrazine> And ended up with one blind man on a seeing horse, and one seeing man on a blind horse.
22:56:20 <Nekhet> I remember how we once got pwned at the end of fucking first steps 1 by coor spray :D
22:56:31 <Steven> um... the first like 6 games i played
22:56:32 Brunius- ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
22:56:47 <Hydrazine> Been there, Nekhet.
22:57:08 <Steven> every single game i was color sprayed... either by my party or a baddie
22:57:13 <Nekhet> The only reason it wasn't a TPK was ecause my half-orc monk (of all people) had the good sense to surrender and let the robbers take whatever they wanted, convincing them not to kill his friends
22:57:36 <Nekhet> He was the only one left standing after the color spray
22:57:45 <Nekhet> monk saves :D
22:57:46 <Hydrazine> Ahh monks and 3 good saves.
22:57:53 <Steven> did you guys charge the caster?
22:57:57 <Hydrazine> One of the good things about being a monk.
22:58:10 <Hydrazine> Sometimes offset by the variety of bad things about being a monk.
22:58:25 <Nekhet> It was a while ago, i don't remember, but we probably focused our forces on the casters
22:58:39 <Nekhet> There's two of them, a sorcerer and a cleric
22:59:03 <Steven> yeah... but they have specific moral that if its not followed easily TPKs parties
22:59:39 <Nekhet> Yeah true, but they are essentially robbers, not assasins
22:59:50 <Nekhet> And the chick that leads them at least, is kind of coherent :D
23:00:17 <Steven> #1 reason why people die during first steps is GMs incorrectly running the encounter
23:00:36 <Nekhet> We had a mixture of luck and wisdom tho that led us to turn in the quest items as we got them
23:00:57 <Nekhet> At that point we didn't know about this so it wasn't a metagaming decision
23:01:02 <Steven> like say... an imp that swift action invisibles...
23:01:39 <Nekhet> We just figured we should turn them in as we get them just in case something goes wrong
23:02:07 <Nekhet> By the time we started playing society we were already paranoid veterans of RPGs so that made sense to us XD
23:02:38 <Steven> yeah we played first steps here in the channel and we did it with 7 people
23:02:47 <Nekhet> You know how every group that has any amount of considerable experience with tabletop RPGs gets really twitchy and paranoid about everything.
23:02:51 <Steven> and while granted you shouldnt pull punches when you have a table of 7
23:03:14 <Hydrazine> I think I was in that one.
23:03:20 <Steven> there were some changes to the way certain abilities actually work
23:03:24 <Steven> yes you were
23:03:34 <Steven> you got thrown in jail and honey came and rescued you
23:03:41 <Nekhet> Sometimes a party of 7 can be less effective than that of 4, it's harder to coordinate and especially if you have a dysfunctional party or one of noobs, it can easily work worse
23:03:57 <Steven> no we had two halarious barbarians
23:03:57 Brunius- has quit (EOF from client)
23:04:06 <Steven> and a diplomancer
23:04:21 <Nekhet> I've run tables of 7 before and it was always stressful as fuck XD
23:04:28 <Steven> who after she leveled got to start doing her super healer
23:05:05 <Nekhet> One of the roughest society experiences we've had was God's Market Gamble XD
23:05:17 <Steven> oh yeah, that ones fun
23:05:18 <Nekhet> We had not a single ranged person
23:05:44 <Nekhet> And three out of four were heavy armor guys :D
23:06:12 <Hydrazine> heh.
23:06:13 <Nekhet> Heavy armor + society = usually bad m'kay
23:06:25 <Hydrazine> I remember when I got abandoned to the enemy.
23:06:28 <Steven> yeah... i recently ran into a dwarf that was 250years old, level 8
23:06:30 <Steven> no ranged weapon
23:06:35 <Nekhet> Although there's the winner in deceptive titles: The Cyphermage Dilemma :D
23:06:36 <Steven> no potion of fly
23:06:39 <Nekhet> Surprise pirate ship!
23:07:23 <Nekhet> I was super excited about playing this senario, it was awesome because we play Second Darkness and i was like wooo, Riddleport fun!
23:07:49 <Nekhet> by the way i'm in love with Second Darkness big time
23:08:12 <Steven> tonight i destroyed the challenge rating of a scenario
23:08:17 <Nekhet> We're close to the end of the second book tho so don't spoil anything for me :D
23:08:18 <Steven> my faction leader said there would be harpies
23:08:24 <Steven> so honey bought a scroll of fickle winds
23:08:47 <Nekhet> Hahaha nice move
23:08:51 <Steven> harpies... neutralized
23:09:21 <Steven> 49k in the bank
23:09:45 <Nekhet> You know what we did in Second Darkness? I dont' even know if you can do this by the rules, but the GM allowed it, because it made sense.. We got random encountered by a Moonflower (CR 8) at level 5
23:10:25 <Steven> i dont know what a moonflower is
23:10:36 <Steven> lookin it up
23:10:49 <Nekhet> http://www.d20pfsrd.com/extras/collaborators/fan-bestiary/moonflower
23:11:27 <Steven> those are interesting
23:11:32 <Nekhet> Basically it grapples you, wraps you in a pod, and then the pods digests you and kes plant babies with you
23:11:34 <Steven> but not challenging
23:11:44 <Nekhet> *makes
23:12:06 <Steven> you double or tripple move one round, then every round after you ranged and kite it
23:12:24 <Nekhet> Yeah except if it manages to grapple you
23:12:49 <Nekhet> And if your mve is the same as the plant's :D
23:13:06 <Steven> thats why you tripple move
23:13:26 <Steven> your get yourself in the air
23:13:35 <Steven> by level 5 you should have a way to fly
23:13:50 <Nekhet> That's not what you do when it ambushes and pods your rogue because it hides really well in the forest (it's a damn plant)
23:14:04 <Nekhet> Unless you get him out of the pod in one or two rounds, he's dead
23:14:35 <Steven> fire is your friend lol
23:14:36 <Nekhet> 2d8+8 points of bludgeoning damage and 8 points of acid damage per round, in addition to its initial attack
23:14:54 <Nekhet> And it has 138 HP
23:15:04 <Nekhet> no way you can kill it very fast, even with fire
23:15:26 <Nekhet> So our rogue was cocooned and my paladin rushed to his aid, but just as he managed to free the rogue he was grappled by this thing
23:15:40 <Hydrazine> grappling in general can be pretty mean.
23:15:44 <Hydrazine> Thats why I'm doing it.
23:15:56 <Nekhet> My monk is a grappler, too :)
23:16:03 <Hydrazine> Can see?
23:16:13 <Hydrazine> Just curious to see how you're doing it.
23:16:32 <Steven> did your GM table rule that the rogue was helpless/pinned or something?
23:16:40 <Steven> if i was the rogue ide cut my way out
23:17:01 <Nekhet> So he was grappled by this plant, and the plant'sCMD is 30, there's no way he can get ungrappled, and he old also get stuck in a pod and killed
23:17:12 <Nekhet> The rogue was unconscious due to damage, one more round and he would die
23:17:25 <Nekhet> *would
23:17:49 <Nekhet> So he was basically flower bait at that point
23:17:58 <Nekhet> but our cleric had a great idea and he was like
23:18:05 <Nekhet> "Can i cast burning diarm on the paladin?" :D
23:18:08 <Nekhet> *disarm
23:18:45 <Nekhet> The GM flips through the book, and it says "held item"... He was like "Yeah, sure, that makes sense. But he'll get the damage too."
23:19:02 <Steven> Man... that rogue must have had some low con...
23:19:05 <Nekhet> and yeah he cast burning disarm on him, and freed him :D
23:19:37 <Nekhet> bite +16 (2d6+9 plus Grab), 2 tentacles +16 (1d8+9)
23:19:50 <Mekkis> tentacles are primary attacks?
23:19:54 <Nekhet> This thing does some damage. And it was a random encounter, we were not at full HP when it jumped us.
23:20:23 <Nekhet> It was a damn close call.
23:20:58 Brunius- ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
23:20:59 <Nekhet> If we didn't have immense healing capacity (a level 5 cleric with all his channels and heals, and my paladin with his 7 LoH attempts 3d6 yeach) we would be dead
23:21:42 <Steven> so... you had immense healing capacity, but were walking around the forest with a rogue at less then full hit points?
23:22:05 <Steven> FOR SHAME!
23:22:06 Brunius- has quit (EOF from client)
23:22:12 <Steven> go stand in the corner!
23:22:15 <Nekhet> He wasn't that much under full :D
23:22:33 <Nekhet> And besides i need LoH for tons of other stuff so gotta save them
23:22:50 <Steven> but seriously... that plants cacoon thing was cool
23:22:53 <Nekhet> Warrior of the Holy Light
23:23:14 <Steven> oh btw, did you all vote?
23:23:21 <Steven> for superstar 2013
23:23:22 <Nekhet> no spells, a bard-like AoE buff instead
23:25:10 <Nekhet> Isn't that supposed to be kind of a secret? XD
23:25:17 <Nekhet> Oh speaking of cool monsters
23:25:24 <Steven> im not asking how you voted
23:25:31 <Steven> im asking you if you did vote
23:25:33 <Nekhet> Here is what i threw at my pirates in skull & shackles
23:25:55 <Nekhet> http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/undead/autumn-death
23:27:02 <Steven> yeah! flyby attack so fun
23:27:07 <Nekhet> Uh huh :)
23:28:38 <Mekkis> how is flyby attack fun?
23:29:43 <Nekhet> It is :)
23:29:52 <Steven> yeah man... its pretty sweet
23:30:22 <Nekhet> I haven't voted yet in the last round
23:32:29 <Steven> well you have 5 days left
23:32:38 <Steven> including the rest of today
23:34:02 <Nekhet> yep, i saw that :)
23:36:06 <Mekkis> flyby attack still attracts AoOs
23:36:32 <Nekhet> Would you allow someone to cast burning disarm on a grappled person, provided that the grappler was much bigger than the grappled person?
23:37:16 <Mekkis> !spell burning disarm
23:37:17 <Hydrabot> Mekkis, BURNING DISARM transmutation (fire[]) cleric 1, druid 1, sorcerer/wizard 1 1 standard action Range: Short (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Held metal item of one creature or 15 lbs. of unattended metal Comp: V, S Duration: Instantaneous Save: Reflex negates (object, see text) SR:Yes (object)
23:37:18 <Hydrabot> This spell causes a metal object to instantly become red hot. A creature holding the item may attempt a Reflex save to drop it and take no damage (even if it is not their turn), otherwise the hot metal deals 1d4 points of fire damage per caster level (maximum 5d4). Circumstances that prevent the creature from dropping the item (such as a locked
23:37:18 <Hydrabot> gauntlet) mean the creature gets no saving throw. The heat does not harm the item, and it does not get hot enough or last long enough to ignite flammable objects. The item cools to its previous temperature almost instantly. If cast underwater, burning disarm deals half damage and boils the surrounding water.
23:37:39 <Mekkis> no
23:37:46 <Mekkis> it only targets a held metal item
23:38:20 <Steven> They have spells that release people from grapples
23:38:30 <Mekkis> !spell liberating command
23:38:32 <Hydrabot> Mekkis, LIBERATING COMMAND transmutation ([]) bard 1, cleric 1, druid 1, paladin 1, ranger 1, sorcerer/wizard 1 1 immediate action Range: close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) one creature Comp: V Duration: instantaneous Save: Will negates (harmless) SR:yes (harmless)
23:38:33 <Hydrabot> If the target is bound, grappled, or otherwise restrained, he may make an Escape Artist check to escape as an immediate action. He gains a competence bonus on this check equal to twice your caster level (maximum +20). This spell has no effect if the target could not get free by using the Escape Artist skill (for example, if he were under the
23:38:33 <Hydrabot> effects of a hold person spell or paralyzed by Strength damage).
23:39:12 <Mekkis> immediate action, too!
23:39:15 <Steven> yeah liberating command is fine
23:39:24 Hydrabot is now known as diebot
23:39:38 <Mekkis> hmmm
23:39:48 <Steven> its an imediate action but requires a check
23:39:51 <Mekkis> would liberating command work if you were the one grappled?
23:40:15 <Nekhet> What if this person is in full metal armor?
23:40:16 <Steven> yes...
23:40:47 <Steven> when someone is grappled, i prefer Litany of Escape
23:40:55 Brunius- ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
23:41:00 <Steven> swift action
23:41:21 <Steven> it loses the grappled and pinned condition and is teleported 10ft
23:41:22 <Mekkis> Steven, but...
23:41:30 <Nekhet> Couldn't you, by the spell description, cast burning disarm on a grappled person inull metal armor held by someone else?
23:41:35 <Nekhet> The armor is a metal item
23:41:46 <Steven> the armor isnt a held item its a worn item
23:41:46 <Mekkis> it's an immediate action to cast the spell, and an immediate action to escape...
23:41:53 <Nekhet> For the grappler, it's a held item
23:41:57 <Mekkis> no it isn't
23:41:59 <Mekkis> it's held
23:42:06 <Mekkis> it's grappled, not held
23:42:18 <Mekkis> do you get multiple immediate actions?
23:42:25 <Steven> no
23:42:32 <Nekhet> But physically, that's the same thing.
23:42:41 <Nekhet> It's a metal objecthey are holding.
23:42:43 <Steven> you get one immediate action a round which replaces your swift action on the following round
23:42:54 <Mekkis> so if I was grappled, I couldn't cast Liberating Command and free myself?
23:43:08 <Steven> so if you do an immediate action on an enemies turn you lose your swift action on your next turn
23:43:44 <Nekhet> Thatdidn't matter here since it was someone else casting the spell
23:43:48 <Steven> if you cast it on yourself i dont believe you could make the check to escape
23:43:59 <Steven> until you recieve another immediate action
23:44:14 <Steven> its why i like Litany of Escape, swift action no check required.
23:44:21 <Mekkis> !spell Litany of Escape
23:44:25 <Steven> you just get teleported 10 ft away
23:44:29 <diebot> Mekkis, LITANY OF ESCAPE conjuration (teleportation[language-dependent]) antipaladin 3, inquisitor 4, paladin 3 1 swift action Range: close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) one willing creature that is grappled Comp: V, S, DF Duration: instantaneous Save: no SR:yes
23:44:30 <diebot> With a powerful prayer, you call upon the servants of your god to whisk a friend out of a grapple. The target loses the grappled and pinned conditions and is teleported 10 feet.
23:44:54 <Mekkis> pity. It's not on the wizard list
23:45:04 <Hydrazine> grease is also a great 'get my friend ungrappled' spell
23:45:37 <Steven> nope but its a fairly cheap scroll
23:45:49 <Steven> and any wizard worth their beans should have UMD
23:46:01 <Mekkis> Deceased doesn't
23:46:18 <Mekkis> I've taken a liking to the Ring of Transposition
23:46:35 <Nekhet> The disadvantage of using burnindisarm as a "get your frendungrappled" spell (which is not its intended use) is 1) they must be wearing metal, and 2) they also takhe damage
23:46:38 <Nekhet> So i'd say it would be far to use it this way
23:46:53 <Nekhet> *fair
23:47:22 <Steven> sadly as fair as it might seem its not legal
23:47:31 <Mekkis> Expect Table Variation
23:48:06 <Nekhet> I It's not legal because of the difference betwen holding and grappling, right?
23:48:23 <Steven> yes
23:48:48 <Steven> the creature is grappling him, the creature being grappled is not considered a held item
23:49:05 <Steven> unless the person in question is unconcious
23:49:11 <Steven> then there is some wiggle room
23:49:33 <Nekhet> Wel t wasn't cast on him per se, but on his armor
23:50:02 <Nekhet> which you could argue is a held item (though it's a grappled item along with its wearer)
23:50:24 <Steven> yes, so the target of the spell would get a chance to drop his armor... which takes rounds to minutees... preventing him dropping it, he takes damage
23:50:47 <Steven> the creature grappling the target of the spell takes no damage because grappling does not take place on a specific portion of the anatomy
23:51:30 <Steven> that would be how i would rule it at my table
23:51:35 <Mekkis> I probably would allow it, if the target's wearer consents
23:51:37 <Nekhet> Yeah but when someone is fully armored you can't really hold him by anything but his armor
23:51:41 <Mekkis> (if they don't, it's PVP
23:51:44 <Mekkis> )
23:51:54 <Nekhet> This wasn't societ mind you, it was a private campaign
23:51:55 Brunius- has quit (EOF from client)
23:52:00 <Nekhet> *society
23:52:11 <Nekhet> I would probably disallow this in society, just to be safe
23:52:26 <Mekkis> it doesn't sound unbalanced, so I'd allow it
23:52:52 <Steven> See table variation.
23:53:01 <Nekhet> In private campaigns i often put common sense above the rules, especially when things boil down to semantics like here
23:53:04 <Steven> I err on the side of caution.
23:53:15 <Nekhet> And so did the GM in this case
23:53:33 <Nekhet> Which i thought was pretty awesome :)
23:53:44 <Mekkis> where are the archetypes?
23:53:51 <Nekhet> i tend to like to reward ingenuity even when it bends the rules
23:54:02 <Nekhet> And ingenious uses of spells can be fun
23:54:18 <Steven> http://paizo.com/rpgsuperstar
23:54:29 <Mekkis> no summoner archetypes :(
23:54:33 <Nekhet> Also yeah, it's not unbalanced, because it requires full armor and cooks the target in his armor :D
23:58:32 <Nekhet> Sean K. Reynolds does not recommend any archetypes, does he? :D
23:59:02 <MekkisScreen> because SKR is naturally the paragon of balance :P
23:59:24 <Steven> skr recommended a few archetypes
23:59:29 boris ([email protected]) has joined #d&d
23:59:35 <Steven> i dont particularly agree with him on several points
