00:19:20 <steve30> T3sl4's lookalike was at the gym again.
00:24:34 <K> he's stalking you.
00:36:03 * steve30 passes Halcyon a penetration specialist
00:36:05 <steve30> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byYGPO4ptxs
00:42:17 <T3sl4> :P
01:13:20 <K> he is on "getting passed around" list, eh
01:21:54 <Ampera> steve30, Voodoo cards are worth quite a bit, particularly the 2
01:21:57 <Ampera> 's and 3's
01:22:10 <Ampera> Even a Voodoo 1 is worth an easy 60-80 bucks on ebay last I checked
01:30:04 <steve30> Maybe I'll hang on to mine as a collectable then :)
01:30:08 <K> i think mine was this one - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voodoo3#/media/File:Voodoo3-2000AGP.jpg
01:30:24 <steve30> I usually just consider it 'an old PCI graphics card'
01:30:42 <Ampera> Voodoo 3 is AGP
01:30:50 <K> wiki says it had pci version too
01:30:54 <Ampera> oh
01:31:00 <Ampera> oh yeah it did, I forgot, nvm
01:31:23 <K> voodoo2 is pci only probs
01:31:24 <Ampera> well I have a couple of Voodoo 1's, but one of them needs a couple of QFP legs rebonded/reattached
01:33:10 <K> dog chewed it?
01:35:17 <steve30> My Voodoo 3 3000 is PCI
01:38:30 <steve30> I wonder if the doctor's secretary managed to go to the toilet yet.
01:38:52 <steve30> She was having difficulty finding a spare 2 minutes earlier
01:40:44 <Ampera> People are able to hold it in for quite awhile
03:39:52 <coppice> steve30: The UK A-level system has really got itself screwed up. Lots of places were cheating, and listing their weakest students as external students, so the average result for their "internal" students was elevated. Now they have been scared into reacting so strongly, you can't find a place to resit as an external student
03:43:05 <coppice> AGP == a graphics phudge

20:22:13 <Halcyon> Yup
20:22:14 <Halcyon> It's me
20:22:32 <DogWomble> it's-s me, halcyomario
20:50:57 <K> hello
20:55:59 <steve30> hi
20:56:00 <Halcyon> Howdy K
20:56:05 <Halcyon> Hey Steve

20:58:50 <Guest|31269> Hi. I'v seen a video about driving a 7 segment LCD in Youtube which was produced by this group. I would like to know if anyone can give me further information about that stuff.
20:59:21 <Halcyon> Hi guest, what did you want to know?
21:00:25 <Halcyon> T3sl4 or coppice are probably your guys to answer the question
21:01:28 <steve30> mmm, coffee
21:01:38 <Halcyon> Heh morning Steve :)
21:01:43 <Halcyon> What time is it there?
21:01:44 * steve30 slept well last night
21:01:48 <Halcyon> Lucky you
21:02:33 <steve30> 1102
21:03:26 * T3sl4 hugs steve30
21:03:46 <Halcyon> Oh so, you bypass me, go straight to Steve
21:03:49 <Halcyon> Slut :P
21:04:13 * T3sl4 headpats Halcyon
21:04:34 <Halcyon> *grumbles*
21:04:39 <T3sl4> "slut" is a rather hollow accusation when i always hug steve30 :P
21:04:40 <Halcyon> That'll do I guess
21:04:48 <Halcyon> Well, you *used* to like me
21:05:05 * steve30 hugs T3sl4
21:05:26 <Halcyon> I thinking of the best way to set up a server for my vintage computers
21:05:58 <Halcyon> I have everything from 286 to Pentiums in the PC collection, but also Amstrads and C64's etc... which I have Ethernet modules for both
21:06:02 * steve30 passes Halcyon a stack of floppies
21:06:34 <Halcyon> I'm thinking a hypervisor on modern hardware is probably the way to go, so I can set up WinNT, etc... to service the various machines
21:06:46 <T3sl4> i read that at first as a stack of flapjacks
21:06:55 <Halcyon> Mmm pancakes
21:09:42 * steve30 pounces over onto Halcyon
21:10:19 * T3sl4 gets out a kiddie pool and drenches Halcyon and steve30 in maple syrup
21:10:21 <Ampera> Halcyon, DEC Alpha server running Unix
21:10:34 <Halcyon> I don't have a DEC Alpha
21:10:39 <Ampera> then acquire one
21:10:42 <T3sl4> Ampera: system/360
21:10:46 <Ampera> PDP/11
21:11:14 <T3sl4> that too
21:11:14 <Ampera> Full TTL Unibus model, no LSI
21:11:28 <Halcyon> How are you Ampera?
21:11:34 <Ampera> tired
21:11:37 <Halcyon> Me too
21:11:57 <steve30> I feel better for having slept 15 hours, but I kinda want to go back to bed again.
21:12:05 <Guest|31269> Sorry I don't expect you to answer me so soon
21:12:16 <Ampera> I slept like shit because my retarded ass mind was panicking about something that doesn't even exist and doesn't affect me whatsoever
21:12:20 <Halcyon> All good guest, probably a good time
21:13:01 <Guest|31269> Actually I want to drive a 12 digit LCD ( so called calculator LCD)
21:13:32 <Ampera> So called by whom? They can't take my money, they can't change my politics, they can't force me to barbecue small children in teriyaki sauce
21:13:59 <T3sl4> Guest|31269: you mean dave's video on driving passive lcd?
21:14:58 <Guest|31269> Yes exactly, but the LCD we are driving has a little more com and segment electrodes (4 coms and 40 segments))
21:16:07 <T3sl4> good luck finding a datasheet, have to probe it yourself i suppose?
21:18:21 <Guest|31269> Yes, we know main characteristics of the LCD pixels and we've written a program for it which works
21:18:39 <Ampera> In other news, Halcyon, I got my midterm grades in.
21:18:45 <Halcyon> Oh yeh?
21:18:48 <Ampera> I'm doing well on everything except college composition (english)
21:18:52 <Halcyon> Meh
21:18:57 <Halcyon> Good to hear :)
21:19:04 <Ampera> everything else is an A, that's an A-
21:19:07 <Ampera> so I need to do better on that one
21:19:23 <Halcyon> As we say "P's get degrees"
21:19:31 <Ampera> huh?
21:19:35 <Halcyon> P = Pass
21:19:43 <Ampera> well A's get GDPs
21:19:52 <Ampera> *GPAs
21:19:53 <Ampera> lol
21:19:57 <Halcyon> Not sure how it is there, but bits of paper are meaning less and less these days
21:20:10 <Guest|31269> But the problem is that LCD's contrast is not appropriate and anything I do to adjust it results in a illogical way.
21:20:14 <Ampera> they mean everything here, a lot of places will not hire you without college paper
21:20:17 <Ampera> unless you work a trade
21:20:29 <Halcyon> Yeh I guess you have to do well then
21:20:49 <Ampera> well in general, my personal standards are incredibly high
21:20:52 <Halcyon> Most places (including Govt) will accept demonstrated experience in lieu of a degree
21:21:26 <Ampera> the issue here is that in order to get experience you need a degree, or to just be so phenomenally good and legendary that you can get into places on reputation alone
21:21:34 <Halcyon> *nod*
21:21:37 <Ampera> of course it all depends on the job, time, place, employer, etc
21:21:43 <Ampera> in other news it's 46 out
21:22:03 <Ampera> in stupid units, 8
21:22:05 * Halcyon converts to proper units
21:22:08 <Halcyon> Oh that's cold
21:22:12 <Ampera> lol
21:22:14 <Ampera> not really
21:22:19 <Ampera> that's a light jacket
21:22:21 <Halcyon> Almost scarf weather
21:22:27 <Ampera> HAH
21:22:36 <Ampera> I'm going out in a long sleeved shirt with a windbreaker
21:22:38 * steve30 is a bit cool in here today
21:22:52 <Ampera> come back when it's -20F/-30C /that's/ cold
21:22:55 <K> if dry, 8 is nice with long sleeves and hoodie, and you walk fast
21:22:57 <Halcyon> It's about 22-23 degress inside here at the moment
21:23:01 <Halcyon> eevblog time
21:23:01 <EEVBlog> Ah shoot, Doc! We've ended up at 21:23 Sydney time.
21:23:19 <Ampera> I consider 50F the minimum for t-shirt weather.
21:23:41 <Halcyon> I wear T-Shirt and Shorts most times of the year
21:23:42 <steve30> I wonder if Halcyon has a spare blanket I can borrow
21:23:50 <Halcyon> Except when it's wet, snowing or really cold and windy
21:24:06 <Ampera> This is nearing the end of reasonable t-shirt weather
21:24:11 <Halcyon> 10 degrees and still is fine. 10 degrees and windy is fucked
21:24:15 <Ampera> also, in other news, I forgot my fucking dentist's appointment
21:24:23 <Halcyon> Oh no :(
21:25:08 <Ampera> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
21:25:11 <Ampera> not much I can do about it now
21:25:15 <Halcyon> True
21:26:24 <Ampera> :/ I have to leave in like 4 minutes
21:26:28 <steve30> I might go to the dentist next year
21:26:37 <Halcyon> I should head to bed soon
21:26:41 <Halcyon> I'm pretty tired
21:26:42 <Guest|31269> sorry for interrupting your discussion but can anyone help me with this LCD issue?
21:27:07 <Halcyon> No worries Guest|31269, unfortunately EE isn't my specialist field
21:27:15 <Ampera> then why do you run an EE IRC channel
21:27:17 <Ampera> ya spastic
21:27:20 <Halcyon> I don't run it
21:27:24 <Stiff> lol
21:27:25 <Halcyon> Dave does, ya spastic
21:27:35 <Ampera> he hasn't been on here since it's started, ya spastic
21:27:43 <Ampera> you hold the channel ownership, therefore you run it
21:27:48 <Halcyon> Yeh I should remind him of that
21:28:08 <Ampera> anyways it's the big goodbye time
21:28:13 <steve30> Guest|31269, I've no idea about the LCD sorry. Hopefully someone else will though :)
21:28:14 <Halcyon> Have fun Ampera
21:28:36 <steve30> What method do you use to adjust the contrast?
21:30:38 <Guest|31269> Actually no method, We are driving the LCD without driver's chip or anything like that and just by programming a mico
21:32:08 <Stiff> something strange is up with my wifi, all my devices are "limited internet" cant load a single thing on anything but this irc connection is the only thing working?
21:32:50 <Halcyon> Windows 10 stiff?
21:33:10 <K> in my exprience lcd contrast is analog thing
21:33:39 <Stiff> nah all android and linux devices
21:33:55 <Halcyon> Weird... what kind of AP are you using?
21:34:06 <Stiff> ap?
21:34:09 <Halcyon> Access point
21:34:48 <Stiff> oh pretty basic tp link router
21:34:51 <K> and waht do you mean by "without driver's chip"? like bit banging rows and columns directly?
21:34:59 <Halcyon> Have you tried just power cycling it?
21:35:43 <Guest|31269> Who did the LCD project? Did he continue it for more complicated LCDs?
21:35:45 <Halcyon> Maybe some states are all messed up
21:35:51 <Stiff> not yet, im out side enjoying a beer
21:36:03 <Stiff> would have to get up for that lol
21:36:16 <Halcyon> Oh well, quit complaining then :P
21:36:26 <Stiff> haha just find it odd
21:38:13 <Halcyon> Anyway, I'm going to go lay in bed and watch Youtubes
21:38:16 <Halcyon> Later all

22:40:32 <Ampera> in other news, I have a cheese/raspberry danish
22:41:03 <K> danish?
22:41:55 <steve30> I think I might have a wander to the Co-Op shortly to stock up on chocolate
22:48:15 <Ampera> A danish, K
22:56:46 <K> ok, it's a danish.
22:59:39 <Ampera> yes, a danish.
23:01:11 <K> delightful.
