06:33:58 <rust_collector> has it been a great x awesome day?
06:34:10 <rust_collector> right, I mean night, lol
06:34:26 <Halcyon> Heh it's 0630 here
06:34:33 <Halcyon> Didn't sleep great
06:35:24 <rust_collector> I am having a not wanting to go to work period myself. It happens, but it seems to happem more and more often
06:35:31 <Halcyon> Yep
06:35:53 <Halcyon> I've been like this for a few weeks now and it's largely due to my inept supervisor who is currently head of my dept.
06:36:08 <Halcyon> The substantive Chief Inspector is off having shoulder surgery
06:37:12 <Halcyon> Anyway I better go. *sigh*
06:37:22 <rust_collector> GO GO GO!!!
06:37:30 <rust_collector> slowly
06:37:30 <Halcyon> *grumbles*
06:37:49 <rust_collector> how slow can you do your work today?

09:35:56 <DHess_US> Ampera, just so there is no confusion, that was me. I'm moving IRC from my old server to my Windows 10 test server which is literally Hitler because that is what I named it and the IRC program grabbed the system name before I caught it.
09:36:12 <Ampera> Alright then
09:36:30 <DHess_US> My old server is dying. :(
09:36:32 <Ampera> I honestly don't care if someone wants to use that nick
09:36:49 <Ampera> Oh nice, it can have a joint burial with my two walking dead IBM servers
09:36:53 <DHess_US> Oh, I just told you because I like the literally Hitler joke.
09:37:01 <Ampera> lol
09:37:20 <Ampera> in other news my school is making the chem lab students buy and use carbon copy notebooks
09:37:22 <DHess_US> Dual Pentium 3 Xeon 900MHz 2M Cache
09:37:28 <Ampera> which, while cool and borderline witchcraft, are fucking annoying
09:37:42 <DHess_US> It's been running since 1998 and I think the power supply is finally having trouble.
09:37:43 <Ampera> oh right you had a bunch of old P3 machines doing tasks
09:37:53 <Ampera> Is that all? just replace the supply :P
09:38:18 <Ampera> If it makes you feel any better my Pentium Pro machine is getting daily use as my word processing machine
09:38:44 <DHess_US> Yea, about that. The motherboard is an old style server motherboard so while it uses an ATX power supply, it requires extra power on +5 and +3.3 volts as well as -5 and -12 volts which modern power supplies do not provide.
09:39:31 <DHess_US> I have a big modern 650 watt power supply which I would have modified to put in but it doesn't supply enough low voltage power and it doesn't have -5 volts anyway.
09:39:57 <Ampera> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
09:40:10 <DHess_US> Maybe I will resurrect it at some later date. It needs new fans anyway.
09:40:38 <DHess_US> But most distributions have gone 64 bit only.
09:41:41 <DHess_US> I hooked all of the RAID array drives up to a separate power supply until I can copy everything off.
09:42:03 <Ampera> I'd love to have an IBM POWER server one day
10:57:45 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Tweet: Viral throat infection confirmed. Will do battle medieval style without drugs.
11:45:56 <DHess_US> Ampera, I'd like to replace that server with a cheap Ryzen ECC machine but having trouble figuring out what motherboard and CPU will work.

20:06:13 <T3sl4> splendid
20:07:54 <Ampera> Hi Halcyon
20:07:57 <Ampera> you around?
20:09:11 <Ampera> DHess_US, out of years of running non-ECC machines at small scale I have yet to know a serious difference between the two. I still maintain the effects of ECC are only visible at scale like in datacenters or in companies dealing with sensitive workloads on hundreds to thousands of workstations
20:12:06 * T3sl4 coughs on Ampera's bits
20:33:38 <Ampera> Halcyon, I'm leaving for school, will be back in about 50-60 minutes
20:33:40 <Ampera> ciao
20:37:09 <Halcyon> I'm back Ampera, sorry, was making dinner.

21:35:33 <Halcyon> How's you?

21:35:43 <Ampera> depressed, but otherwise in pain
21:35:52 <Halcyon> Aw *cuddles*
21:35:57 <Ampera> that being said, happy to have the package
21:36:00 <Ampera> \o/
21:36:03 <coppice_> These EEVBlog Tweet insersions are pretty useless when the end of the message keeps getting cut off
21:36:03 <EEVBlog> If you keep saying that, I'm gonna hold you upside down and shake you until all the electrons fall out, coppice_!
21:36:04 <Halcyon> Oh yay!
21:36:15 <Halcyon> Hah
21:36:23 <Ampera> coppice_, those are only retweets and I have no idea why it does that
21:36:45 <K> can you shake a stick at it so it maybe stops?
21:36:54 <Ampera> K, I've tried
21:36:57 * steve30 curls up on Halcyon's lap
21:37:17 * Halcyon strokes steve30 like Dr. Evil's cat
21:37:18 <Ampera> Speaking of EEVBlog, thank him, Halcyon, next time you see him for me, I really like the multimeter
21:37:27 <Halcyon> I shall.
21:37:43 <Halcyon> I hope it does the job
21:38:15 <Ampera> Everything came perfectly fine. I count 3x jerky 3x spices 1x mustard 1x minties 2x ramen 2x FDD 2x HDD ?x cables 1x multimeter
21:38:22 <Halcyon> They are actually quite a nice meter for a small compact thingy
21:38:28 <Halcyon> Not like those shitty Chinese ones
21:38:38 <Ampera> It's way way better than my old meter, which is the classic cheap chinese multimeter
21:38:39 <Halcyon> Something like that
21:38:50 <Ampera> which will actually take a couple of seconds to detect continuity
21:39:04 <Halcyon> Have you had any of the foods yet?
21:39:09 <Ampera> I've tried each of the jerkies
21:39:38 <Ampera> they're much much different than US jerkies
21:39:49 <Halcyon> This is all I know of jerky
21:39:52 <Ampera> here our jerky tends to be very moist and soft, and loaded with a lot of sugar and salt.
21:40:06 <Halcyon> I'm sure you can buy some commercial jerky like that
21:40:08 <Ampera> Sometimes it's really tender when you get high end jerky
21:40:13 Quit: ibiza ([email protected]) Quit:
21:40:22 <Ampera> It is quite good though, particularly the roo jerky

21:40:59 <Halcyon> It's quite tender
21:41:00 <coppice_> kangaroo is delicious
21:41:12 <Halcyon> coppice_: I sent Ampera a selection of Aussie Jerky
21:41:36 <coppice_> I've only had roast kangaroo
21:41:38 <Ampera> The drives are also perfect, I intend to put one in my Pentium Pro machine and film me doing so
21:41:42 <Ampera> they're also almost as old as I am
21:41:54 <Halcyon> Awesome. I hope they survived the trip
21:42:32 <Ampera> Everything seems to have done so perfectly. Although the multimeter was set to on when I got it :P
21:42:58 <Halcyon> Oops :P
21:43:05 <Halcyon> That might have been me
21:43:15 <Ampera> it's no problem, I have a load of CR2032s
21:43:17 <Halcyon> I was playing with it
21:44:16 <Ampera> I also need to get some high quality german/american sausages for that mustard
21:44:26 <Ampera> need to go Albany to get it though
21:45:04 <Halcyon> That is my favourite mustard
21:45:17 <Halcyon> It's really nice on toasted ham and cheese sandwiches
21:46:23 <Ampera> in german homes, mustard is for sosig
21:46:32 <Ampera> and other stuff, but most importantly sosig
21:49:03 <K> naughty sosig
21:49:10 * Ampera flings sosig at K
21:49:10 <Halcyon> Mmm sosig
21:49:22 <Ampera> Some nice smoked bratwurst I plan to get (and smoke myself)
21:49:42 <Ampera> I also slept like shit last night
21:49:54 <Ampera> I got under 6 hours of sleep

21:53:31 <Halcyon> Fucking ELO
21:54:23 <Ampera> it's so good
21:54:37 <Ampera> easily one of their best songs
21:54:57 <Halcyon> Let me know if you like the Minties etc... happy to send you more in the next box. The foods are light.
21:55:01 <Ampera> I'm sitting in class now, got about 5 minutes left
21:55:14 <Ampera> speaking of which, I need to start planning my revenge
21:55:22 <Halcyon> No need
21:55:26 <Ampera> fuck off
21:55:27 <Halcyon> Do those videos
21:56:03 <Ampera> I will, also because I actually am using my Pentium Pro machine for actual schoolwork
21:56:07 <Ampera> actually
21:56:10 <Halcyon> Nice
21:57:19 <Halcyon> How much would you pay for an 8MB CF card?
21:57:42 <Ampera> 1200 USD
21:57:51 <Halcyon> Seriously
21:57:57 <Ampera> well flash is expensive
21:58:05 <steve30> I have an 8MB CF card. It came with a camera..
21:58:23 <Halcyon> There is a lot of 8MB Cisco CF cards, brand new for AUD$10 each
21:58:40 <Ampera> lol yeah right
21:58:51 <Ampera> maybe in the far off space year of 2006
21:58:53 <Halcyon> Compact Flash seems to be expensive though
21:59:12 <Halcyon> At least the smaller cards which legacy equipment uses
21:59:20 <Ampera> because it's quite popular for very niche and old embedded applications
21:59:38 <Halcyon> There are 8MB cards listed for $50 or $100 (which is bullshit)
22:00:09 <Ampera> old and niche things tend to be quite expensive, except for when they're my hopes, dreams, fantasies, and desires
22:00:18 <Ampera> then they're impossible to purchase
22:00:39 <Halcyon> I'm thinking of putting an offer in for all 8 of them
22:00:46 <Ampera> to do what with
22:00:50 <Halcyon> *shrug*
22:00:55 <Halcyon> Have them in case someone like you needs one?
22:01:49 <Ampera> anyways, class is starting
22:01:51 <Ampera> see you later
22:02:07 <Halcyon> Later
22:02:30 <steve30> I have a 32MB card as well
22:02:52 <Halcyon> I have a few Cisco ones and one Kodak one I think
22:02:57 <Halcyon> Maybe some Canon branded ones too
22:03:06 <Halcyon> Not many though. CF isn't something I have a lot of
22:04:54 <Halcyon> I also bought 3x 64MB Cisco CF cards for 5 GBP each
22:05:06 <Halcyon> Postage was cheap
22:05:31 <steve30> I've got a handful of assorted CF cards. Wouldn't hurt to get some more though.
22:06:00 <Halcyon> I tend to stick with the Cisco branded ones above all else as they were always of really good quality. Not sure who actually made the flash
22:06:10 <Halcyon> But they were designed for 24/7 opertion over many years
22:07:01 <Halcyon> If you search for "Cisco MEM-CF" it should bring up a bunch
22:07:01 <steve30> I should go and paint the skirting boards
22:07:40 <Halcyon> I think they used SLC flash in them as well
