06:57:53 <WebChatUser> anyone else own a Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun? curious how often you have to replace the ceramic filter things
07:12:43 <coppice_> which ceramic filter?
07:22:53 <WebChatUser> coppice_ there are these "ceramic paper filters" that come with the package (one's already inside the gun)
07:23:03 <WebChatUser> i don't see any more detail in the instructions
07:24:34 <WebChatUser> oh here we go, http://www.hakko.com/english/products/hakko_fr301_parts.html#productNav
07:24:39 <Bluenote> I can't imagine it would be all that often. Should be easy enough to tell when it's needed, too.
07:24:49 Nick: Bluenote is now known as GVEE
07:25:09 <WebChatUser> A5044
07:25:29 <WebChatUser> https://www.hakkousa.com/products/replacement-parts/a5044-filter.html
07:25:46 <WebChatUser> in the instructions it says it needs replacement when "hardened by flux staining"
07:25:53 <WebChatUser> i don't know how often this occurs though
07:26:19 <GVEE> Are you trying to estimate upkeep costs, or what?
07:27:44 <WebChatUser> Wondering if I should purchase more filters ahead of time for long-term use, always a pain when a vital part goes out of stock or something years down the line
07:29:07 <GVEE> Hakko's been around a hot minute, I wouldn't imagine you'd have to worry about that for a while. I'd say just use it and see how long it takes. Plus, at the end of the day, you can probably bodge a replacement if needbe.
07:31:56 <Ampera> GVEE, good you're back
07:32:02 <Ampera> Simon got back and said he couldn't find the account
07:32:13 <GVEE> That's very odd.
07:32:17 <Ampera> He asked Dave if he could, but I didn't see a response
07:33:00 <Ampera> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Apply again maybe?
07:33:13 <WebChatUser> GVEE sorry i'm not familiar with the phrase in English, is hot minute long or short?
07:33:49 <GVEE> I was saying that Hakko's been in business a long time, so I'd expect consumables to be available for a long while for the most part.
07:34:02 <coppice_> WebChatUser: Maybe they have changed them to a porous ceramic. I'm used to them being some kind of wadding material. They don't get changed very often
07:34:04 <WebChatUser> ah okay
07:35:16 <GVEE> Ampera, just tried logging in again to see what would happen. I'm guessing Dave found it, because I'm now able to.
07:35:25 <Ampera> alright
07:35:25 <GVEE> Thanks for passing the word along.
07:36:03 <Ampera> np
07:38:02 <WebChatUser> thanks for the tips everyone

09:18:06 <randohinn> Hey
09:18:16 <randohinn> Do we have any astronomy-enthusiasts here?
09:18:43 <randohinn> I'm looking at some star catalogues and can't figure out what vx, vy and vz could possibly be
09:19:53 <GVEE> Just googled it, looks like it might be the velocity of the star.
09:20:32 <randohinn> hmm...
09:21:01 <randohinn> off I go then, way too late to try writing something accurate up to render with velocity

09:21:40 <GVEE> Well, that's my good deed of 2019 done, now I can go back to my regularly scheduled program of being a surly bastard.

11:24:36 <T3sl4> there was an old clip by jeri ellsworth, she was assembling an ikea shelf i think
11:24:53 <T3sl4> the clip was five seconds showing the finished shelf on the floor, neatly assembled...around a support pillar
11:24:57 <T3sl4> the only narration, "fuck."
11:50:51 <GVEE> Sounds like it's time to label it an art installation and move on with life.
11:57:22 <Ampera> haha modern art, it's a struggle of a person thing I might have in real life haha

12:40:59 <EEVBlog> New EEVBlog Tweet: Sometimes it pays to deal with big companies. Big advertising media company emails me saying I underbilled them back in 2016 and they owe me some money, can they please have a new invoice so they can pay me. Sure!
13:05:56 <Agripa> Bought a 2xAA Mini Maglight Pro+ for evalutation. The focus sucks which I was expecting but otherwise it is a great improvement over the older Mini Maglights.
13:06:21 <Agripa> Bought some more good AA NiMH cells with the flashlight and just finished charging them. I forgot how nice it is to have a charger than works well since I have not used mine much since I repaired and improved it.

19:10:20 <steve30> good thanks
19:10:57 <steve30> I got a tour of Birmingham and Shrewsbury, and we had a couple of nice dinners and coffees
19:11:08 <Halcyon> Wonderful :)
19:11:18 <Halcyon> Will there be another?
19:11:44 <steve30> I wouldn't mind going back to see more of the area
19:11:56 <Halcyon> I'm not talking about the area, I meant your date :P
19:12:01 <steve30> he wants to come up here again to see some things in my area so I expect he will
19:13:47 <steve30> He's the first person I've met who apologised for having sex with me :S
19:14:05 <Halcyon> Wha?
19:14:13 <Halcyon> Why on earth would he do that

19:20:22 <Halcyon> What sort of dog?
19:23:26 <steve30> can't remember the actual type (I'm not very knowledgeable about dogs)
19:24:23 <steve30> He wouldn't let me cuddle his human though. If I did he dash over and jump in between us.
