06:34:30 <GVEE> Any forum admins about?
06:37:34 <Ampera> no
06:37:46 <Ampera> who is burning down the forums?
06:39:02 Join: Guest|35779 ([email protected]) to #EEVblog
06:39:04 <GVEE> Nothing like that. I just tried to register a couple weeks ago, have yet to be approved. Figured maybe something about it looked hinky, thought I'd check.
06:39:20 Part: Guest|35779 ([email protected]) from #EEVblog
06:39:27 <Ampera> the forum has registration approval?
06:39:33 <GVEE> Yep.
06:39:41 <Ampera> didn't when I registered, but that was a while ago
06:40:01 <Ampera> maybe email Dave, be kind about it
06:40:15 <Ampera> if you want to wait a while and don't want to bother Dave, you can ask Halcyon, or if you really want I can ask Simon (one of the mods)
06:40:16 <GVEE> I'll whip out my fanciest 4-letter words.
06:40:32 <Ampera> Halcyon isn't a forum admin btw, he just knows them better than I
06:40:54 <GVEE> I figure Dave probably has enough on his plate, which is why I hadn't followed up sooner.
06:41:27 <Ampera> He's ususally pretty good in matters about getting into the forum, but if you think it will be a bother I can contact Simon, or you can ask Halcyon to ask someone to look into it
06:42:18 <GVEE> Eh, sure, if you'd ping Simon on it, I'd appreciate it.
06:42:30 <Ampera> What account did you sign up as?
06:42:52 <GVEE> Should be the same name: GVEE, domain for the email is @nuchabi.net.
06:44:16 <Ampera> I've PMed him, if you stick around, I'll update you when he replies
06:45:07 <GVEE> Much appreciated.

06:49:37 <GVEE> May as well use a real IRC client if I'm gonna be hanging around a bit. Just got a call to deliver a friend through the snowy wastes of town, so I'll likely be idle.
06:50:38 <Ampera> np
06:50:47 <Ampera> most of us are idle much of the day
06:51:03 <GVEE> IRC in a nutshell.
06:51:16 <Ampera> you using HexChat?
06:51:21 <GVEE> Yeah
06:51:24 <Ampera> Nice.
06:51:54 <mrpackethead> what do you use if you are alergic to nuts
06:52:10 <Ampera> Eggs
06:52:17 <mrpackethead> EggChat?
06:52:30 <mrpackethead> IRC in a egg shell?
06:52:34 <Ampera> I thought you meant the nutshell part
06:52:35 <Ampera> yeah

22:46:45 <hsn93> eevblog about
22:46:46 <EEVBlog> EEVBot, Programmed by Ampera for EEVBlog IRC provided by AustNet. I mirror twitter posts, among other things. Might not be housetrained yet!
22:49:02 <Ampera> I don't know why my HTPC died, it did so at 05:48:18 EST, and it wasn't a system-end reboot.
22:49:27 <Ampera> I don't think it was power, my desktop system is still running, unless it was just a fluctuation it could deal with, and the HTPC couldn't.
22:51:38 <hsn93> does it have event viewer?
22:51:57 <Ampera> dmesg, nothing conclusive
22:53:23 <hsn93> syslogd ?
22:54:53 <Ampera> I don't believe I have that running
22:55:02 <Ampera> my guess is someone physically turned it off for some reason
22:55:13 <K> my money would be on powerloss/brownout
22:55:32 <Ampera> Those are very very rare around here.

23:12:36 <coppice_> K: you need to be careful with bets like that. many people haven't seen their power hiccup for decades
23:20:19 <K> i have
23:20:24 <K> ok
23:24:35 <Ampera> In the last 12 years, we've had around 3 major power outages, only 1 lasting for more than a handful of hours
23:24:55 <Ampera> We live in an area where we don't get sustained examples of extreme weather, really only bursts.
23:25:21 <Ampera> However that one other time, the power went out for a straight week due to an ice storm probably taking out every line in the city.
23:26:46 <coppice_> In the two years we've lived here there have been 2 power cuts of several hours each - one when a falling tree took out a power line, and a scheduled one when they properly fixed that problem. Those are the only two outages people who have lived here for decades have ever seen.
23:30:59 <K> some of lines here still go throgh forests and in winter/heavy wind sometimes the get damaged
23:31:24 <K> downtime is couple of hours usually, mostly less
