00:20:56 <steven> alright back.
00:21:04 <steven> I was writing up my core character.
00:32:17 <Brunius> why do my eyes hurt
00:32:19 <Brunius> this sucks
00:32:23 <Brunius> I got six hours of sleep
00:32:25 <Brunius> jegus what more do you want
00:39:39 <steven> it wants you to break so that it can laugh at your.
00:46:49 <steven> pain
00:47:09 <steven> i say you fling poo at it until it leaves you alone.
01:09:05 <s_gmusic> thinking of making a stealth hjealer. do I want to be cleric/ninja or cleric/rogue?
01:10:00 <steven> go core with the character!
01:11:09 <s_gmusic> that's why I wonder about rogue instead of ninja
01:18:15 <steven> I think im going to find a core game to play online.
01:23:14 <Avatar> the general response in the forums about drag is that it's a no brainer, either use the CM rules or use the move action/carrying capacity rules
01:23:47 <steven> nothing i wanna play there.
01:25:35 <s_gmusic> what kind of character?
01:30:24 <Brunius> http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/feb/02/iceland-temple-norse-gods-1000-years

01:45:16 <Philderbeast> ?
01:45:57 <s_gmusic> nice. plan for him?
01:46:59 <Philderbeast> *grumble* so google has deprecated half the code my app was using lol
01:49:47 <Avatar> nice
01:50:32 <Avatar> the "I'm enjoying it" bit was what I was looking for
01:50:36 <Avatar> obviously there is no metric
01:55:45 <Philderbeast> yea really nice... now i have to rewrite it all
03:29:23 <steven> hey hey
03:29:55 <steven> ran into 3 new pathfinders to write about after tonights game.
03:41:57 <steven> the first half of the scenario was 3 elves/halfelfs and 3 dwarves talking shit about the other race with me wondering how so many racists joined the society.
03:42:43 <Mekkis> could be worse
03:42:52 <steven> hey goya

03:44:14 <steven> I has my schedule for paizocon.
03:44:48 <steven> I will be running 6-07 and 6-20 CORE!
03:45:48 <Mekkis> I ran Immortal Conundrum last night. The PCs managed to bypass all but one of the encounters :)
03:45:57 <steven> gonna be exciting!
03:46:58 <steven> heh
03:47:25 <steven> im currently writing up the enteries so i can post them to the character page on paizo
04:24:17 <steven> done
04:25:25 <steven> This foul smelling disagreeable murdering Dwarven miscreant is by far my least favorite companion I've had to travel with. He is constantly shouting. He smells of offal. Keeps company with a mangy feline that at one point during an interrogation tore the throat out of a prisoner! Morgrim claims he was telling the animal not to do it, but I clearly saw through his lies. He had a smug look of satisfaction and pride.
04:25:25 <steven> I am unsure if he truly possesses the wisdom of the wild. Nature as I understand it seeks balance and this mongrel is so tilted he may as well lay down. He is repugnant.
04:40:35 <Mekkis> hehe
04:42:41 <steven> every pathfinder i've played with so far has one!
04:42:57 <steven> well with this core character
04:43:23 <steven> i dont even wanna consider doing this with the rest of my characters... 24 others... ugh.
05:18:20 <Avatar> how will you rule drag
05:46:18 <steven> turkey bacon avacado melt.
05:46:31 <steven> it was sooooo good.

06:29:06 <diebot> You draw upon your elven link to the wilderness to change the coloration of yourself and your equipment to match that of your surroundings. If you move more
06:29:06 <diebot> than half your base speed on your turn, you gain no benefit from this spell until the start of your next turn. If you make an attack, this spell ends (as invisibility).
07:40:33 <Avatar> I think I made a stealth attack quite using the wrong rules
07:40:40 <Avatar> but it turned out to be quite effective and fair
07:41:06 <Mekkis> was it fun?
07:41:12 <Avatar> 100%
07:41:25 <Mekkis> then there is no problem
07:41:42 <Avatar> basically I made the bad guy make a stealth roll around a corner, then had him come into view and made the guy he was attacking make a perception check vs the stealth roll
07:41:53 <Avatar> and the bad guy moved at full speed
07:42:10 <Avatar> as in, move, then standard to sneak attack
07:42:38 <Avatar> I didn't think it was terribly fair to the bad guy for the whole party to make a perception check
07:42:48 <Avatar> and moving at half speed would never have worked
07:42:58 <Avatar> rogues really get the short end of the stick

13:52:10 <steven> this restriction is only on players. Gms can do whatever the fuck they want "GMs may utilize whatever books a scenario, module, quest, Adventure Path, or other sanctioned adventure utilizes."
13:57:29 <steven> Hello.
13:59:19 <Avatar> but what about dragging an ally
14:04:01 <steven> not possible.
14:04:21 <steven> the mechanics for drag are outlined in APG i believe.
14:17:31 <Avatar> how can dragging not be possible even if there's no mechanic for it
14:18:03 <Avatar> there's no mechanic for lifting either, but you can still do it
14:20:55 <steven> if you dont move at half speed you take a -5 to your stealth check, that is all.
14:25:43 <Avatar> still screws the rogue
15:04:38 <steven> pretty much yeah.
15:05:06 <steven> I am so enjoying core.
15:05:14 <steven> just because i can play again
15:07:45 <steven> the problem is that there is a mechanic for it in another book. If there was NO mechanic for it, it would be GM adjudication.
15:14:37 <Avatar> you played with us just the other day
15:25:09 <steven> i played for no credit the other day.
15:25:28 <steven> I mean i got to make progress with a character
15:25:34 <steven> it was awesome.
15:27:31 <Avatar> Brunius: has starbound gotten better
15:28:58 <Brunius> I haven't played it before like two days ago
15:29:00 <Brunius> so idk
15:31:19 <Mekkis> Avatar, if, pre-APG, someone wanted to drag an enemy, I'd have ruled it a CMB check vs their CMD
15:33:44 <Avatar> did you do that in 3.5
15:34:22 <Mekkis> no. in 3.5 I'd use either an opposed strength check, or an opposed grapple check
15:34:49 <Avatar> steven you can't say there is a mechanic for it in another book so doing it any other way is impossible
15:35:09 <Avatar> in core, there is no mechanic for it, therefore it is GM adjudication, but it's not impossible to drag something
15:35:13 <Avatar> that's ridiculous
15:35:51 <steven> the drag combat manuever is not legal for use by players in Core.
15:36:05 <Avatar> but dragging isn't illegal
15:36:42 <steven> The drag combat manuever is not legal for players to use in core.
15:36:48 <Avatar> that's like saying doing a high five is illegal because there's no mechanic for it in the core rulebook
15:37:10 <steven> Touch attack by both players.
15:37:17 <Avatar> ah but that's not in the core rulebook
15:37:25 <Avatar> you adjucated that
15:37:36 <Mekkis> steven, you'd adjudicate it as 3.5e trip?
15:40:46 <Avatar> I don't think it matters how you'd adjucate it, as long as you don't rule that it's impossible
15:40:59 <Avatar> the same way you wouldn't rule a high five as being impossible
15:41:04 <Avatar> since "no mechanic exists"
15:41:32 <Mekkis> still don't understand why people rule that catching an ally requires a touch attack
15:41:46 <Avatar> catching an ally?
15:41:54 <Mekkis> yeah
15:41:55 <steven> hey, i never said thats how i argued for it to work. I was overruled though because the GM is kind of a pain in the ass when it comes to stuff like that.
15:42:13 <Avatar> man nobody is asking how your pain in the ass GM would rule it, we're asking how you would rule it
15:42:29 <Mekkis> say an ally is falling, and you want to catch them
15:42:31 <Avatar> we don't want to know how your pain in the ass GM would prefer PFS to be when we're talking rules discussion
15:42:49 <steven> hmmmm.... how to say it without aying that i ould totally jut use the drag rules....
15:43:48 <Avatar> I think the APG's combat maneuvers are a corner case, there's no other rules in any book where rules didn't really exist for them before and now they do
15:44:11 <Avatar> maybe some feats that allow you to do something different? I dunno
15:44:51 <Avatar> worth asking in the messageboards in core campaign
15:45:32 <steven> i understand the whole no dirty trick/reposition because those are rarely ever used.
15:46:03 <Avatar> yeah agree on those
15:46:30 <steven> reposition can be simulated with positioning and bullrushing.
15:46:47 <Avatar> not sure about dirty trick if you're in a desert and fighting humans from a prone position
15:47:14 <Avatar> I guess you could rule it as a weapon attack or something
15:47:32 <Avatar> I'm trying to think of it from the standpoint of a new GM
15:47:50 <steven> but the drag combat maneuver requires a grapple check then you have to maintain and choose to move half speed.
15:48:27 <Avatar> isn't that basically what the drag maneuver is
15:51:08 <steven> yeah. Save that the drag combat maneuver takes a standard action and the work around takes two standards making it stupidly inefficient.
15:51:53 <steven> in my area the most common use of drag is to drag people out of a threatened area when they are unconcious
15:52:54 <steven> so now we can spend a standard action to grapple the person, and then next round get the person out of the area
15:53:19 <Mekkis> you're requiring a CMB check on an ally?!
15:54:29 <steven> or we can move action pick them up which provokes an AoO and then pray the person doesnt put you heavily encumbered.
15:54:50 <Mekkis> drag capacity is 4x heavy load
15:57:35 <steven> yeah. but a gnome trying to pick up a dwarf in full plate...
15:58:18 <Mekkis> you'd allow that with a successful drag manouvre?
15:58:53 <steven> I'm a very generous GM when it comes to stuff like that.
15:59:41 <steven> I'd rather have a good time then a rules perfect game.
16:00:48 <steven> like i was at paizocon and i was free for a slot and decided i'd sit to make legal table size.
16:01:11 <steven> and thats where i learned that freedom of movement does not remove the grappled condition.
16:02:26 <steven> it says you automatically succeed at all escape artist and grapple checks made to escape a grapple or pin and all grapple checks automatically fail vs you.
16:02:56 <steven> so if you are already grappled and then get hit with FoM, you're still grappled until you take a standard action to remove the condition.
16:05:32 <steven> At tables I am GMing. If you get hit with FoM you're no longer grappled because I feel it is stupid that you have to waste a standard action to automatically succeed vs grapple.

16:07:09 <diebot> PFRPG Core
16:07:09 <diebot> This spell enables you or a creature you touch to move and attack normally for the duration of the spell, even under the influence of magic that usually impedes movement, such as paralysis, solid fog, slow, and web. All combat maneuver checks made to grapple the target automatically fail. The subject automatically succeeds on any combat maneuver
16:07:09 <diebot> checks and Escape Artist checks made to escape a grapple or a pin. The spell also allows the subject to move and attack normally while underwater, even with slashing weapons such as axes and swords or with bludgeoning weapons such as flails, hammers, and maces, provided that the weapon is wielded in the hand rather than hurled. The freedom of
16:07:09 <diebot> movement spell does not, however, grant water breathing.
16:08:23 <Avatar> that actually does seem fair that it takes a standard to get out
16:08:27 <steven> pretty fucking dumb huh avatar?
16:08:42 <Avatar> otherwise if you lose grapple before you get your turn, the bad guy can fuck you over
16:08:56 <Avatar> whereas if you auto break free as a standard, you can get out of the way on your turn
16:09:14 <Avatar> does that sound right or am I missing something
16:09:48 <Mekkis> blink is better
16:09:56 <steven> i do enjoy a good blink spell.
16:10:10 <Mekkis> not as good as it was in 3.5
16:10:41 <steven> you know I have never actually cast blink on my wizard... He picked the spell up as soon as he got it, never cast it.
16:14:31 <steven> Most things that grapple characters in scenarios have it as a secondary effect on an attack. I am refering to the Grab Mechanic.

16:25:15 <Mekkis> depends on the intelligence of the creature
16:25:25 <Mekkis> but yes, that's one thing I don't like about Pathfinder grapple rules

16:28:05 <Mekkis> ah, 3.5e
16:35:03 <Avatar> well is it fun now
16:44:59 <steven> i think what brunius was trying to say was that he has no metric for deciding if it is better then what it was.
16:45:15 <Brunius> that is what brunius was saying
16:45:19 <Brunius> I'm enjoying it
16:56:46 <steven> so my core character is super fun.
16:57:54 <steven> and it doesnt hurt that so far I've played with some of the strongest roleplayers in the area.
16:58:21 <Mekkis> ?dazed
16:58:22 <diebot> Mekkis, The creature is unable to act normally. A dazed creature can take no actions, but has no penalty to AC. A dazed condition typically lasts 1 round.

16:58:39 <Mekkis> can a dazed creature perform a 5' step?
17:30:11 <steven> hello everybody!
17:32:49 <Mekkis> hi
17:34:13 <steven> Common sense.
17:34:20 <steven> ive been playin darkest dungeon for the last couple hours
18:00:31 <Mekkis> you can move slightly while avoiding attacks while dazed...
18:16:53 <Avatar> is that good
18:34:02 <steven> sometimes its super fun
18:34:11 <steven> othertimes its frustration to no end.
18:34:34 <steven> like just now... mission level 1 apprentice
18:34:56 <steven> my strongest guy has 42hp
18:35:03 <steven> boss enemy 132hp
18:35:34 <steven> has an attack tht hits everyone in the party for 7-14 damage and has a chance to stun them.
18:36:05 <steven> my healers have 2 different heals, a heal that does 2-2 healing to everyone and a single target heal that does 3-4
18:36:27 <steven> there is no restarting missions
18:36:35 <steven> if a character dies, he stays dead
18:38:48 <steven> probably the most infuriating thing is that a torch costs 75g... you need 8-10 torches to do a short dungeon.
18:39:03 <steven> you need 4-8 food which also costs 75g
18:39:45 <steven> if you buy too much food or torches, you dont recieve a refund on the unused goods.
18:40:08 <steven> when you leave the dungeon your group just tosses them on the floor
18:40:21 <steven> because fuck it... why would you ever want to keep 75gold
18:42:39 <steven> they give a disclaimer about how the game is about hard choices in persuit of a goal.
18:43:00 <steven> and sometimes it just feels like a gotcha game.
19:17:54 <Avatar> sounds like it needs to come out of early access
19:22:56 <steven> i think some of the abilities need balanced.
19:23:16 <steven> stun is entirely too powerful.
