02:41:47 <electrohead> woah, I didn't know the teensy 4.1 had 10/100 ethernet
02:42:08 <rust_collector> 10% internet?
02:43:57 <electrohead> done deal. I'm using the teensy 4.1 for my external antenna switching box
02:44:06 <electrohead> nice amount of GPIO's

02:48:53 <Nothing\> were there server problems last night, i think it was?
02:49:10 <electrohead> alright, I'm bitching already - PJRC is out of stock, of the 4.1, whereas I can find them on ebay
02:49:12 <Nothing\> it was either last night or the night before, I wasn't able to connect for some reason.
02:49:24 <electrohead> of course I found them on ebay for a higher price, ffs
02:49:31 * electrohead strangles Nothing\
02:49:42 <electrohead> sorry, was pissed for a moment, lmfao
02:49:43 <Nothing\> i hate finding nice things on ebay because they reject my CC/Debit card
02:49:49 * Nothing\ hugs electrohead <3
02:49:52 <electrohead> :P
02:49:55 * electrohead hugs Nothing\
02:49:56 <Nothing\> i know that just means you love me lol
02:50:00 <electrohead> lol
02:50:26 <Nothing\> my first choice for electronic components is aliexpress, which i wish i'd stop doing
02:50:40 <Nothing\> i'm pretty sure like 80% of the chips i got on there are counterfeit
02:51:04 <Nothing\> i mean, i don't think TI's logo is a picture of the united states with TI written on it
02:51:25 <electrohead> heh
02:51:32 <electrohead> I never bought anything on that site
02:51:33 <Nothing\> which is the logo on my 74hc595s
02:51:39 <Nothing\> chips are dirt cheap
02:51:52 <Nothing\> a lot of the jelly bean chips i got for like $1 or $2 for a pack of 10
02:52:20 <Nothing\> the only exception was a 7400 series ALU and a comparator in the same series
02:52:44 <Nothing\> i wound up paying like $20 for a pack of 5 or 10 of those, but i think that's cuz they're popular chips for breadboard computers
02:52:55 <Nothing\> even if the ALU is a bit derpy
02:53:25 <electrohead> I'd rather get a correct part
02:53:42 <Nothing\> well, for the ALU i think when the time comes, i'll just build my own
02:53:43 <electrohead> and not some wong hung lo part that was bodged from the start
02:53:46 <electrohead> lol
02:54:03 <electrohead> and, I said fuck it, and bought the teensy 4.1 with ethernet shield for $40 on ebay
02:54:05 <Nothing\> i think the counterfeit chips are more defects from the factory line
02:54:15 <Nothing\> shield for what?
02:54:19 <Nothing\> arduino?
02:54:43 <Nothing\> oh
02:54:45 <Nothing\> teensy 4.1
02:54:46 <rust_collector> teensy, he said?
02:54:54 <Nothing\> i've never heard of those, so it didn't click at first
02:55:17 <Nothing\> i just recently bought a single board computer with a 65c816 for the CPU
02:55:30 <Nothing\> which is a 16 bit version of the 6502 and the CPU they used in the SNES
02:55:45 <Nothing\> it also has a nifty 6502 emulation mode so i can use it as a 6502 if i want
02:56:14 <rust_collector> did they block the internet up there in canaderp? only justines approved pages get thru?
02:56:36 <Nothing\> rust_collector, i dunno, i've been having a lot of DNS issues lately for some reason
02:56:49 <Nothing\> and i'm on one of the biggest ISPs, Rogers
02:57:07 <Nothing\> they're like the canadian comcast, only not as negligent
02:57:16 <rust_collector> ok, I will try harder. Don't worry, we will shut them down sooner or later
02:57:33 <Nothing\> in that they're a cable monopoly, which i never understood how monopolistic cable companies get by those laws
02:58:02 <Nothing\> i mean, yeah there are other businesses, but they all just lease the main company's equipment, so there's basically no difference
02:58:29 <Nothing\> except the 3rd party companies will probably be more expensive, using the same equipment they'll have to make a profit somehow
02:58:45 <Nothing\> i see the same thing with DSL ISPs more frequently
02:59:00 <rust_collector> well, they would get a much better deal than you, so...
02:59:20 <Nothing\> yeah i was just thinking, they would probably get some sort of volume type deal like manufacturers do
02:59:34 <Nothing\> argh what are those laws called regarding monopolies
02:59:44 <Nothing\> it's pissing me off, i can't think of the name for the life of me
02:59:48 <electrohead> "rub my nipples" laws?
02:59:48 <Nothing\> non something
03:00:06 <electrohead> lol, south park reference :P

03:00:12 <EEVBot> [Title] - 2-pack Waterproof IP68 Ethernet RJ45 jack to RJ45,Connector-High quality | eBay
03:00:14 <electrohead> I may get these
03:00:19 <Nothing\> lol
03:00:40 <Nothing\> when i type "monopoly non..." into google it just suggests "monopoly monocle"
03:00:54 <Nothing\> i hate it when google acts like a child with brain damage
03:01:38 <Nothing\> ANTITRUST!
03:01:44 <Nothing\> that's the word i was looking for!
03:01:48 <Nothing\> D'OH
03:02:13 <Nothing\> i kept thinking non-disclosure or something but that's not even related
03:02:45 <Nothing\> ugh it's bloody hot out today
03:02:54 <Nothing\> think i might get the AC up and running this weekend
03:03:01 * Ampera hugs Nothing\
03:03:13 <Nothing\> once my meds kick in and i don't feel like i'm on the verge of dying, or wanting to die
03:03:20 * Nothing\ tackle hugs Ampera
03:03:25 <Nothing\> heya buddy, how ya doing?
03:03:25 <Ampera> I guess that answers the next question for me...
03:03:30 <electrohead> lol
03:03:32 <Ampera> apathetic with rage
03:03:35 <Nothing\> heh i'm doing alright
03:03:46 <Nothing\> ah man i hate it when emotions get to that point Ampera
03:03:52 <Nothing\> any negative emotions
03:04:04 <Nothing\> actually, you ever cry from happiness? now there's a confusing experience
03:04:08 <Ampera> not sure if apathy is an emotion, or negative
03:04:22 <Nothing\> i'd say it's an emotional state
03:04:23 <Ampera> No I've never been happy enough for that
03:04:33 <Ampera> happiness is a rare emotion
03:04:35 <Nothing\> Ampera, yeah neither did i until i got engaged
03:04:43 <Nothing\> that was the first time i ever cried from happiness
03:04:57 <Nothing\> then the classic other two moments, wedding, birth of child
03:05:13 <Nothing\> actually the birth of my daughter i was more trying not to pass out than anything
03:06:27 <Nothing\> anyone who tells you childbirth is a beautiful process is full of shit and needs to have a long sit on the throne, cuz there's nothing remotely beautiful about watching the woman you love excrete all manner of fluid, blood, shit, piss, etc, from her nether regions as her vagina's torn open to her asshole
03:06:39 <Nothing\> at one point they literally just put a bucket under her to catch everything
03:07:17 <electrohead> sooo anywho
03:07:20 <electrohead> https://www.ebay.com/itm/121100493562?epid=1539993666&hash=item1c3226e2fa:g:~-IAAMXQkN1RyuqH
03:07:23 <EEVBot> [Title] - Power over Ethernet Passive PoE Adapter Injector + Splitter Kit 5v 12v 24v 48v 636391129084 | eBay
03:07:26 <Nothing\> and i was exaggerating a bit about the tearing. she woulda tore, but they cut her instead. From her vag to her ass.
03:07:27 <electrohead> anyone with PoE knowledge?
03:07:32 <Nothing\> but yeah, what electrohead said lol
03:07:41 <Nothing\> electrohead, sorry man, i barely know what it is
03:07:48 <Nothing\> i know what it stands for, that's it
03:07:49 <Nothing\> lol
03:07:50 <electrohead> lol
03:08:17 <Nothing\> lol whenever i see the acronym PoS i always think of piece of shit
03:08:21 <Nothing\> instead of point of sale
03:08:22 <electrohead> I'm more wondering if what I linked, I could use two of them, one to inject power, then use the other to remove the power from the ethernet line
03:08:27 <Ampera> electrohead, no, because even the people who made the various PoE standards don't even know all of them
03:09:04 <Nothing\> there's a PoE standard now?
03:09:20 <Ampera> lol
03:09:59 <Ampera> wikipedia has at least 4
03:10:01 <electrohead> lol
03:10:02 <Ampera> but there are more than that
03:10:07 <Nothing\> lol wow
03:10:14 <Ampera> PoE is nothing new though
03:10:19 <electrohead> actually, never mind, I figured out what I was after
03:10:47 <Nothing\> heh i remember back around 2003 or so, everyone was all excited about this new form of internet they were working on that would go through the power lines
03:11:07 <Nothing\> i'm just thinking how the hell that would work without your signal to noise ratio being through the roof
03:11:24 <Nothing\> being that close to the power lines, everything would capacitively couple
03:11:49 <electrohead> https://www.ebay.com/itm/124314140361?hash=item1cf1b33ec9:g:DNwAAOSwEOhfRztR
03:11:51 <Nothing\> hell, even just being in my room, i can measure about 500mvac of noise coming off of my body
03:11:51 <EEVBot> [Title] - Passive PoE Injector Splitter 5-52VDC for IP Camera, VoIP, Network Devices (W) | eBay
03:12:10 <Nothing\> anywhere from 300mvac to about 700mvac just from the walls
03:12:14 <electrohead> grabbing that, then going to tear it apart, verify what pins the power is on, then may have to modify either that, or the ethernet kit for the teensy
03:12:57 <Nothing\> heh or i remember when firewire was gonna be the next big thing
03:13:10 <Nothing\> i had a friend who was so excited about firewire
03:13:23 <electrohead> firewire is a security nightmare
03:13:31 <Nothing\> i think what they're doing with USB is good, though
03:13:43 <Nothing\> electrohead, i didn't consider security
03:13:55 <Nothing\> what sorts of security problems would be entailed with usb/firewire?
03:14:18 <Nothing\> i can only think of somehow gaining access to passwords on encrypted drives
03:14:24 <Nothing\> or the encrypted media itself
03:14:34 <Ampera> Firewire has DMA iirc
03:14:40 <Nothing\> wtf
03:14:44 <Nothing\> why?
03:14:58 <Nothing\> that should be optional
03:15:05 <Ampera> same reason thunderbolt has DMA
03:15:17 <Ampera> means you can do things that aren't CPU bound
03:15:38 <Ampera> one of the big disadvantages for truly high bandwidth stuff on USB is there's no DMA, so everything has to be pushed by the CPU
03:15:44 <Nothing\> yeah i'm a bit fuzzy on dma. I just know it's something to do with security.
03:15:51 <Ampera> direct memory access
03:15:55 <Nothing\> oh okay
03:15:58 <Ampera> meaning it can write and read the memory directly, without the CPU
03:16:02 <Nothing\> that makes a bit more sense now
03:16:06 <Nothing\> i'm thinking of dmca
03:16:11 <Ampera> which is a problem, since that's not easy to secure
03:16:13 <Ampera> what?
03:16:23 <Nothing\> DMA's on my list of things to learn about
03:16:32 <Ampera> congrats you already did :P
03:16:39 <Ampera> it's just a concept
03:16:42 <Nothing\> well, the implementation
03:17:00 <Nothing\> how they use de/multiplexers to have pages of memory
03:17:02 <Ampera> It's tricky, because it all ends up boiling down to two unique schools of thought in security
03:17:03 <Nothing\> stuff like that
03:17:11 <Ampera> if physical access == access, or if it does not
03:17:35 <Nothing\> it seems these days that there's little reason to access memory directly
03:17:41 <Ampera> memory management is its own unique concept
03:17:46 <Nothing\> like you could do more damage than good if you're not careful
03:17:49 <Ampera> and is about as complicated as you have time for
03:17:57 <Nothing\> like screwing with your registry, but worse
03:18:01 <Ampera> there is plenty of reason to access memory directly
03:18:12 <Ampera> registry is a windowsism, it's just a database
03:18:15 <Nothing\> although i guess any changes you make to RAM just get changed back on reboot, don't they.
03:18:20 <Ampera> no
03:18:26 <Nothing\> really
03:18:37 <Nothing\> i figured as long as you didn't screw with the ROM you were fine
03:18:39 <Ampera> if you have direct memory access, you can feasibly write to disk
03:18:42 <Ampera> or do whatever you want really
03:18:55 <Ampera> no clue if firewire/PCIe DMA schemes obey memory protection
03:18:57 <Nothing\> ah, so i guess that includes ROM
03:19:04 <Ampera> what ROM
03:19:11 <Nothing\> i dunno what ROM a computer would use these days other than BIOS
03:19:16 <Ampera> there really is no such thing as ROM on a modern computer
03:19:20 <Ampera> not even EFI/BIOS
03:19:25 <Nothing\> yeah they use that EFI thing now
03:19:38 <Nothing\> which i've gotta say, this is the first computer i had that's had EFI and i love it
03:19:47 <Ampera> It has its benefits and detriments.
03:19:54 <Ampera> It's particularly nice when you have an EFI shell on ROM
03:19:57 <Nothing\> speaking of IO
03:20:05 <Nothing\> i've gotta go make some output of my own
03:20:06 <Nothing\> brb

03:25:36 <Ampera> food incoming
03:26:01 <Ampera> got a 50% off coupon from Uber Eats, so I bought a bunch of shit from Five Guys
03:26:57 <Nothing\> holy shit
03:27:11 <Nothing\> even dr fauci's starting to think now that COVID escaped that lab in Wuhan
03:27:38 <Nothing\> apparently in that lab, they were doing experiments with SARS-COV-1 to try and make it transmissible between humans
03:27:49 <Ampera> I heard supposedly he was told way early on that it might have, and decided to ignore it
03:27:56 <Nothing\> and other experiments they say could have produced sars-cov
03:27:57 <Nothing\> 2
03:28:09 <Nothing\> Ampera, a lot of people ignored it
03:28:19 <Nothing\> that's why i just figured it was another conspiracy theory
03:28:23 <Ampera> a lot of people were lambasted for believing it
03:28:29 <Nothing\> it would make sense though
03:28:52 <Nothing\> cuz if you remember, for the first month or so of the pandemic, china was imprisoning any doctors who so much as talked about it
03:29:06 <Nothing\> even if they diagnosed somebody with it, or treated somebody for it, they'd get thrown in prison
03:29:29 <Ampera> My hunch was that wet market + "traditional" medicine involving wild animals + time = pandemic
03:29:35 <Nothing\> the government was trying REALLY hard to keep it under the table. And you've gotta wonder what motives they'd have for it
03:29:48 <Nothing\> i mean, i can see patriotism and saving face being part of it, for sure.
03:29:55 <Nothing\> but not if they're going to lengths THAT extreme
03:30:29 <Nothing\> Ampera, i figured it just came from a bush meat market. like ebola.
03:31:05 <Nothing\> the current theory is that it jumped from bats to some intermediate animal, and then from that animal to us
03:31:22 <Ampera> honestly, I think the only takeaway I have is that people need to stop treating people they disagree with like garbage
03:31:42 <Ampera> cause it fuels situations where the wrong answer becomes the only right one to have
03:32:57 <Nothing\> brb i'm calling the cops on my neighbours
03:33:05 <Ampera> have fun
03:33:21 <Nothing\> i'm pretty sure they're running a puppy mill, and now they've got their dogs outside in 90+ degree weather and no water
03:33:34 <Nothing\> not even any dishes
03:40:35 <Nothing\> well that was a waste of time
03:40:42 <Nothing\> if that was a child they'd be here in a minute
03:40:51 <Nothing\> fucking hypocrites
03:41:03 <Nothing\> or one of their k-9 units
03:44:06 <Ampera> lol yeah right
03:44:18 <Ampera> cops don't care about kids
03:44:21 <Nothing\> i actually knew some kids who were on 911
03:44:46 <Nothing\> when i was growing up, their dad was a cop and their dog was a k-9 who died on duty so they did a segment about it.
03:45:18 <Nothing\> you probably don't even know what rescue 911 is, do you lol
03:45:27 <Ampera> I don't even watch TV
03:45:27 <Nothing\> i have to keep reminding myself how old you are
03:45:43 <Ampera> no i just don't watch TV
03:45:54 <Nothing\> lol yeah it was an old tv show in the 90's hosted by william shatner about emergencies where 911 saved the day
03:46:06 <Nothing\> it was basically a big advert for 911 when it was a relatively new thing
03:46:30 <Nothing\> it was a pretty good show, actually.
03:46:58 <Nothing\> of course being a kid, i always made fun of the segments. Like the wheelchair man who wheeled himself into a pool to save somebody who was drowning.
03:47:18 <Nothing\> i'd always make "wheely wheely wheely" sound effects when he was wheeling his way into the pool lol
03:48:15 <Nothing\> really though, what a lot of non-swimmers don't realize is you don't even need to swim to keep your head above water
03:48:29 <Ampera> dead bodies float good
03:48:39 <Nothing\> if you hold a lungfull of water your head stays above water just fine. you might sink to your ears but you can still breathe
03:49:06 <Nothing\> Ampera, well that's more down to the microbes that decompose the body creating pockets of gas within the abdominal cavity
03:49:17 <Nothing\> which is why dead whales explode, if you've never heard of or seen that
03:49:29 <Nothing\> they'll literally explode like a crate of TNT
03:49:30 <Ampera> fresh corpses still float
03:49:37 <Nothing\> do they?
03:49:45 <Ampera> if you've ever been to an underwater morgue
03:49:59 <Nothing\> i've heard of incidinces where people would encase a body in cement and the cement fills up with gas and floats to the surface
03:50:06 <Nothing\> i haven't
03:50:12 <Ampera> that's a shame
03:50:19 <Ampera> more fun than an aquarium
03:50:25 <Nothing\> there's a death museum in germany called the mutter museum i'd love to go see
03:50:47 <Ampera> of course it's in Germany
03:50:47 <Nothing\> they have a youtube channel but i don't watch the videos cuz they're only like 2 or 3 minutes long and i just don't see the point in watching such a short video
03:50:52 <Nothing\> lol yeah
03:50:53 <Ampera> fuck I hate germans
03:50:57 <Nothing\> hey man
03:51:00 <Ampera> absolute trash people
03:51:01 <Nothing\> i'm german
03:51:11 <Ampera> that explains a lot
03:51:14 <Nothing\> well, first generation canadian. But my Mom's German.
03:51:33 <Nothing\> yeah, my grandfather actually fought for germany in the war
03:51:42 <Nothing\> i still don't know if it was by choice or not though
03:51:53 <Ampera> I'm german too
03:52:01 <rust_collector> then I am also german, someone many generations ago was german
03:52:09 <Nothing\> i heard it wasn't, but at the same time, he volunteered for a kamikaze sub program that never got off the ground before the war ended
03:52:55 <Nothing\> it's weird though, my grandfather was born in czecheslovakia and my grandmother in yugoslavia but somehow i'm canadian
03:53:04 <Nothing\> and my grandfather's sister is hungarian
03:53:10 <Nothing\> or was
03:53:14 <rust_collector> what is weird about that?
03:53:25 <Nothing\> because somehow i'm german
03:53:34 <Nothing\> despite that mishmash
03:53:37 <rust_collector> no, you are canadian?
03:53:50 <Nothing\> well i'm canadian now, but i mean my ancestry is german
03:53:59 <Nothing\> although i'd bet dollars to donuts i've got slavic in my
03:54:14 <Nothing\> my grandfather looked slavic and both grandparents came from slavic countries
03:54:20 <Nothing\> so it would make a lot of sense
03:54:24 <Ampera> my fuckload of food is here
03:54:28 <Nothing\> nice
03:54:31 <Nothing\> what kinda food?
03:54:37 <Nothing\> enthic wise
03:54:37 <Ampera> edible food
03:54:45 <rust_collector> I just had 2 burgers.
03:54:55 <Nothing\> i just had 1 burger a couple of hours ago
03:54:59 <Ampera> ethnically gay
03:55:05 <Nothing\> a cheap little fast eddie's burger
03:55:13 <Nothing\> which is a local joint that sells cheap burgers
03:55:23 <Nothing\> back in the 90's they used to sell burgers for 30 cents
03:55:36 <Nothing\> or 69 cents for a cheese burger
03:55:49 <Nothing\> now it's like $3
03:55:52 <Nothing\> :/
03:56:11 <Nothing\> i was telling my mom in another 20 years it'll cost $30 for a happy meal
03:56:14 <Ampera> the burgers I bought were 10 bucks each
03:56:17 <Ampera> USD bucks too
03:56:24 <Nothing\> jeez
03:56:46 <Ampera> it's 40 bucks worth of food, but I had a 50% off coupon
03:57:10 <Nothing\> most expensive meal i ever had was at this restaurant called The Keg. I got a shrimp cocktail which was shrimp topped with garlic butter, wine sauce and several kinds of cheese
03:57:44 <Nothing\> and surf and turf for the main course, filet minon for the meat and a nice fat lobster tail drowning in wine sauce
03:58:01 <Nothing\> plus about 5 beers, which brought the bill up to like $110
03:58:06 <Nothing\> and a $20 tip
03:58:54 <Nothing\> but yeah, like over half of the bill was just beer lol
03:59:17 <Ampera> I spent over a hundred bucks easy just paying for four people at olive garden
03:59:45 <Nothing\> yeah dude, fast food and especially take out is so expensive
04:00:05 <Nothing\> when i was a kid you used to be able to get a meal at macdonald's for a family of 4 for like $10
04:00:35 <Nothing\> i remember a pack of dumaurier cigarettes were less than $5
04:00:40 <Nothing\> now they're $13 last i heard
04:01:16 <Nothing\> and actually, the government's going to increase taxes on luxury items like cigarettes and ecigs soon
04:01:30 <Nothing\> so the price is gonna go up again
04:01:46 <Nothing\> they're trying to make up for the deficits from covid
04:01:51 <Ampera> poor tax
04:02:05 <Nothing\> well at least they're taxing luxury items
04:02:15 <Nothing\> although apparently the price of all goods is going up soon
04:02:34 <Nothing\> even the price of gas is supposed to go up another 30 or 40 cents per liter
04:02:42 <Nothing\> which in american terms is... lemme math
04:03:22 <Ampera> 120-160 cents per gallon
04:03:49 <Nothing\> yeah
04:04:02 <Nothing\> i was gonna say, it's just over a dollar a gallon USD
04:04:12 <Nothing\> as it is, our gas is over $1.30 a liter
04:04:29 <Nothing\> which is like $4.25
04:04:36 <Nothing\> per gal
04:04:50 <Nothing\> i'm glad i don't drive
04:05:02 <Nothing\> but i remember telling myself that 15 years ago when gas prices started going up
04:05:07 <Ampera> our gas is in the low 3$/gal range
04:05:12 <Ampera> and people are already starting to get upset
04:05:22 <Nothing\> yeah for some reason cost of living is so much less for you guys
04:05:33 <Ampera> one of the main reasons that, as soon as I have the cash, I'm buying a diesel truck
04:05:35 <Nothing\> sans medical
04:05:50 <Ampera> cause you can stockpile diesel, where stockpiling gas is way more dangerous
04:05:51 <Nothing\> diesel engines are more efficient, too
04:05:54 <Nothing\> they last a lot longer
04:06:04 <Nothing\> by hundreds of thousands of miles
04:06:18 <Nothing\> cuz the diesel itself acts as a lubricant
04:06:24 <Nothing\> at least that's part of the reason
04:06:55 <Nothing\> doubly so if you get an asian car
04:07:05 <Ampera> I'd buy a diesel now, but they're way more expensive than gas
04:07:12 <Nothing\> ime, toyotas have great potential to surpass a million
04:07:31 <Nothing\> the fuel may be more expensive, but upkeep is cheaper in the long run
04:08:20 <Nothing\> and i dunno about the States, but here the difference in price between diesel and petrol is only a few cents
04:08:32 <Nothing\> it's really not a huge difference at all
04:09:00 <Ampera> Diesel tends to be a bit more, but you also tend to get more mileage from it
04:09:24 <Nothing\> i was wanting to mention mileage, but i wasn't completely sure about it
04:09:29 <Ampera> still doesn't change the problem that Diesel trucks are almost always heavy duty ones that cost twice as much as a medium duty
04:09:49 <Nothing\> well, you don't necessarily need to get a truck if you're looking at diesel
04:09:59 <Nothing\> i know toyota at least has diesel cars
04:10:06 <Nothing\> my old neighbour used to have one
04:10:40 <Nothing\> ugh, massive heartburn
04:10:49 <Nothing\> think i'll have a spoonful of sodium bicarb
04:12:27 <Nothing\> man i wish i knew why i've been so anhedonic lately
04:12:40 <Nothing\> it's so... blah
04:12:48 <Nothing\> empty and unfulfilling
04:13:20 <Ampera> I have regular (basically daily) heartburn
04:13:29 <Ampera> so I eat calcium carbonate tabs like they're tic tacs
04:13:44 <Nothing\> Ampera, try nexium. It's been hands down the best long term treatment i've found for it
04:14:04 <Nothing\> heh i just take a half a teaspon of baking soda
04:14:26 <Ampera> hell no
04:14:34 <Ampera> because I know the moment I take a PPI I'm on it for life
04:14:40 <Nothing\> it's great cuz i'll feel the pressure building for a few minutes, then i'll suddenly have a belch like i've been drinking cola and i can feel the co2 in it cuz it burns my nose and my eyes
04:14:41 <Ampera> and I'd rather be on calcium carbonate for life
04:14:57 <Nothing\> but the co2s from the bicarb reacting with the hydrochloride in my stomach
04:15:15 <Nothing\> so it's just so satisfying to belch out this cloud of reactant byproducts
04:15:15 <Ampera> Calcium carbonate is better for large amounts, as instead of sodium, you get a small amount of calcium as a nutrient
04:15:21 <Ampera> which is good for me, since I no longer drink milk
04:15:35 <Nothing\> yeah, with my high BP i probably should be eating literally grams of sodium at a time
04:15:49 <Nothing\> *shouldn't
04:16:07 <Nothing\> it's funny cuz my heart rate's inhumanly low
04:16:18 <Nothing\> my resting heart rate is only 45 beats per minute lol
04:16:40 <Nothing\> i think cuz i take so many meds that are like, they slow my body down
04:16:54 <Nothing\> or certain aspects of my physiology at the very least
04:17:33 <Nothing\> i got one of those O2 pulse/oximeters a while ago, it's a pretty neat little gadget
04:17:41 <Nothing\> was only like $5 on aliexpress
04:18:44 <Nothing\> actually there's a story i remember from this youtube hosted by a cardiologist where he was on an international flight and one of the passengers had some sort of heart problem, so him and another doctor who was onboad were working on the guy
04:19:37 <Nothing\> and the cardiologist actually had a little ECG gadget he was given to evaluate as a kickstarter. So he actually wound up using that to help diagnose the passenger's issue
04:19:56 <Nothing\> i thought that'd make for a great review if nothing else lol
04:20:24 <Ampera> mmm hot dog
04:20:33 <Nothing\> i've never beeen a huge fan of hot dogs
04:20:42 <Ampera> these are hebrew nationals
04:20:43 <Ampera> best hot dogs
04:20:57 <Ampera> the problem with hot dogs is there are good ones and there are shit ones
04:21:05 <Ampera> and there are a lot of nasty, greasy, disgusting hot dogs
04:21:15 <Nothing\> though i lived off of them for quite a while cuz you could get a pack of a dozen chicken dogs for $1, and a loaf of bread for $3 and you'd be set for 1/3 of your meals for the week
04:21:39 <Nothing\> i really don't care what's in food. So long as it tastes good and doesn't make me physically ill
04:21:44 <Ampera> only 40% plastic by weight
04:21:54 <Ampera> likewise
04:21:58 <Ampera> but I'm talking about quality
04:22:01 <Ampera> there's always nicer food
04:22:27 <Nothing\> i saw a youtube video the other day where a guy took some tuna from a can and looked at it under a microscope and there threads of plastic in it
04:22:41 <Nothing\> which to me, seems suspect since when you eat something, it doesn't go into your muscles
04:22:59 <Ampera> you're not a fish
04:23:11 <Nothing\> like, if i ate a chunk of copper, it's not like it'd go right into one of my biceps
04:23:14 <Ampera> but it could have easily been from manufacturing
04:23:17 <Ampera> if you ate a chunk of copper you'd die
04:23:36 <Ampera> copper isn't lead, but it's still poisonous if you eat enough of it
04:23:44 <Nothing\> i'm not sure elemental copper has the bioavailability to absorbed orally
04:23:46 <Ampera> it can be an issue if you have copper cookware
04:23:52 <Nothing\> but a copper salt would definitely do it
04:24:06 <Nothing\> that reminds me, apparently copper sulfate is a common additive to cat foods
04:24:08 <Ampera> that's the issue with cookware
04:24:12 <Nothing\> which i found absolutely apalling
04:24:18 <Ampera> how so
04:24:23 <Ampera> they eat it, they don't keel over
04:24:24 <Ampera> who cares
04:24:31 <Nothing\> since copper sulfate is a known toxin (actual toxin) and irritant
04:25:00 <Nothing\> there's a buncha other shit in cat food i would never put in my body, too
04:25:20 <Ampera> the dose makes the poison though
04:25:26 <Nothing\> it's incredible the sorta garbage that ends up as the gold standard for some sources of nutrients in pet foods
04:25:31 <Nothing\> that it does
04:25:44 <Nothing\> but chronic exposure can cause toxic effects as well
04:25:44 <Ampera> sure, rhubarb leaves are poisonous, but if you ate some you probably wouldn't notice it
04:25:53 <Nothing\> i didn't know that about rhubarb
04:26:05 <Ampera> you have to eat a lot of them, but rhubarb leaves can be poisonous
04:26:13 <Nothing\> are they in the nightshade family, too?
04:26:26 <Nothing\> like tomatos and eggplants
04:26:32 <Nothing\> datura, belladonna
04:26:41 <Ampera> no
04:26:44 <Nothing\> ah
04:27:05 <Nothing\> when i used drugs more recklessly, datura was the one drug i would never EVER touch
04:27:36 <Nothing\> that stuff scared the shit out of me just from the stories i heard. And it didn't sound enjoyable at all since half the time you don't even realize you're on anything.
04:28:04 <Nothing\> frankly you'd be lucky if you came out of it and weren't in a psych ward
04:28:14 <Nothing\> and of course it lasts 2-3 days
04:28:33 <Nothing\> believe it or not, nutmeg actually CAN get you high
04:29:13 <Nothing\> there's a drug in it called myristicin that's similar to ecstasy or something like that. But i always thought that was kinda funny.
04:29:47 <Nothing\> cuz that's like something you tell a newb. Smoke some nutmeg and you'll get high. Then low and behold there's actually some truth to the myth.
04:31:06 <Nothing\> but i mean, you have to eat like 3 or 4 table spoons of fresh nutmeg. And of course the stuff lasts a good 3 days or so and isn't enjoyable at all. But boys will be boys.
04:31:47 <T3sl4> oh hey Nothing\
04:31:49 <T3sl4> *hugs*
04:32:10 <Nothing\> heya T3sl4
04:32:16 * Nothing\ tackle hugs T3sl4
04:32:21 <Nothing\> how you been, buddy?
04:32:34 <T3sl4> good
04:32:47 <Nothing\> that's good to hear
04:33:28 <Nothing\> i've been really bored and anhedonic lately for reasons that are behyond me. But otherwise I've been good.
04:33:48 <Nothing\> anhedonic meaning i lack the ability to derive pleasure from activities
04:34:15 <T3sl4> that sucks
04:34:20 <T3sl4> but at least you're here :)
04:34:59 <Nothing\> yeah it's a real shitty state to be in. Usually it's combined with depression and/or anxiety but thankfully this time it's just anhedonia on its own. Nothing else. So I'm at least grateful for that.
04:35:06 <Nothing\> yeah exactly
04:35:35 <Nothing\> and i'm not completely unable to derive pleasure from things. It's just a lot harder than it would normally be.
04:37:10 <Nothing\> usually i take these sorts of moods as an opportunity to study because i figure if I'm already bored, I might as well make good use of the time. And if nothing's gonna entertain me, why not do things that are productive, but not usually entertaining. It's not like I'm missing out on anything.
04:37:57 <Nothing\> Actually for some reason i've been really fixated on the question of why the fish/scales of a fish turn a goldish brown color when it dies or rots
04:38:25 <Nothing\> or what metal it is in fish scales that makes them silvery
04:38:32 <Nothing\> metal(s)
04:40:00 <Nothing\> i saw this video the other day of a fish that was literally fucked up, it had something wrong with it where it had a hole going clean through its head where its eyes would be and you could see right through its head. And of course the skin all around it was that goldish brown color i mentioned. So I've been wondering about it since then.
04:41:22 <Nothing\> it's sad cuz the whole thing about fish living with holes in their heads didn't surprise or interest me cuz when i was a child we had gold fish who all cannabilized eachother until all that was left was literally half a goldfish with all of its entrails hanging out the back. So I already knew fish could survive severe injuries.
04:44:10 * Nothing\ twiddles his thumbs
04:44:25 * Ampera twiddles Nothing\'s thumbs
04:44:42 <Nothing\> nested thumb twiddling
04:44:57 <Nothing\> or recursive?
04:45:20 <Nothing\> is there any difference between something nested and something recursive?
04:47:04 <Ampera> Nested is a set within itself, recursive is a seat which repeats
04:47:10 <Ampera> *seat -> set
04:47:30 <Ampera> er, set within a set
04:47:40 <Nothing\> ah i gotcha
04:48:00 <Nothing\> so nesting can be recursive, but only if it's self-referential
04:48:40 * T3sl4 twiddles Ampera
04:49:09 <T3sl4> Nothing\: no metals, it's layers of keratin, pigments or whatever with shiny optical effects
04:49:14 <Nothing\> in prison, pedos were called diddlers
04:49:28 <Nothing\> T3sl4, oh like a thin layer film sorta deal?
04:49:30 <T3sl4> likely brown is some combination of oxidation and bacterial decomposition
04:49:44 <Nothing\> yeah i was thinking oxidation
04:49:44 <T3sl4> i'd diddle Ampera too, but he's over 18 :(
04:49:59 <T3sl4> also, was that that picture of a sunfish?
04:50:06 <Nothing\> i think the american prison term for pedos better
04:50:09 <Nothing\> chomo
04:50:15 <Nothing\> it just rolls off the tongue better
04:50:27 <Nothing\> short of child molester
04:52:19 <Nothing\> here we go
04:52:20 <Nothing\> https://i.ibb.co/P4gBy6Z/20210605-144655.jpg
04:52:23 <Nothing\> my pride and joy
04:52:57 <Nothing\> you know, i could conceivably make an nes or SNES out of this if I had a derelict console for ROM parts
04:53:09 <Nothing\> and the picture processing unit
05:04:42 <Nothing\> how come some interfaces have multiple ground pins?
05:05:04 <Nothing\> Like, I've heard some versions of IDE had a ground pin every other pin on the connector
05:08:24 <Lemon> hey T3sl4, I decided to get some kits of components that I dont have (I have already resistors, electrolytic caps (under 50v, enough for what I do), ceramic caps, transistors, trimpots and a few others
05:08:33 <Lemon> I wanted to ask you, are those https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001213159293.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.70883c00BsdJTO&mp=1 used a lot ?
05:08:34 <EEVBot> [Title] - 460PCS/BOX 63V 100V 24 Value Correction capacitor package kit Polypropylene Safety Plastic Film Capacitor Kit 105 823 Set Free|Capacitors| - AliExpress
05:08:44 <Nothing\> Lemon, nice
05:09:11 <Nothing\> it's always such a pain trying to get every value in even just E3 values from 0 to 1M
05:09:39 <Lemon> well I once bought a big pack of yageo/vishay and other brand names, from 0 to 10M
05:09:46 <Lemon> theres like 150+ different values
05:09:52 <Ampera> Роял
05:10:19 <Lemon> I know those chinese packs aint good quality
05:10:25 * Ampera kisses Lemon
05:10:26 <Lemon> but it will be for prototyping, learning purposes etc
05:10:28 <Ampera> how you doing
05:10:30 <Nothing\> i never even tried with caps or inductors, caps i got a basic kit from elegoo when i started. Otherwise I just buy them as I need values. Or mix and match what I have. and for inductors, I just look for the highest value possible with the lowest resistance.
05:10:40 <Lemon> hello ampy im ok and you ? :>
05:10:41 <T3sl4> seems alright Lemon
05:10:58 <Lemon> yeah but what I wanted to know
05:11:01 <Ampera> ungodly tired
05:11:03 <Lemon> are those type of caps used a lot ?
05:11:08 <Nothing\> Lemon, yeah i got an actual pack of E3 value resistors from like 10ohm to 1Mohm which has served me nicely
05:11:17 <Lemon> I know ceramic/lytics are vastly used
05:11:18 <T3sl4> sure why not?
05:11:25 <Lemon> idk thats why im asking :>
05:11:33 <Lemon> I dont want to buy kits I wont or rarely use
05:11:39 <T3sl4> ceramic chips are used because they're small and SMT
05:11:41 <Nothing\> but other values i use a lot like 100, 220, 470, 1k and 10k i had to buy extra, larger packs since 20 wasn't enough resistors
05:11:55 <Nothing\> so i bought packs of 100 metal film ones in those values
05:12:17 <Nothing\> except 220 looks almost identical to 10k in metal film thanks to my partial colorblindness
05:12:37 <Lemon> yeah im not reading them either
05:12:42 <Lemon> fuck that
05:13:13 <Nothing\> i know one of these days i'm gonna end up putting a 220 ohm resistor on the base of a BJT connected to a 9v rail
05:13:42 <Nothing\> i sorta did that once. I'd been working with MOSFETs all night so I was into the habit of just using pull resistors
05:14:17 <Nothing\> then i had to make something with BJTs, had a brain fart and forgot to put any current limiting resistors on the bases at 9v and fried em all lol
05:14:31 <Nothing\> that was the only real time i've ever let out the magic smoke
05:14:53 <Nothing\> except when i first got my hands on some 555s i did something to screw up 3 of them
05:15:04 <Kuschelpony> Nothing: about the ground pins
05:15:08 <Nothing\> mis-wiring monostable circuits somehow
05:15:13 <Nothing\> Kuschelpony, go on
05:15:15 <Kuschelpony> think about it as return lines
05:15:24 <Nothing\> oh okay
05:15:29 <Nothing\> so it provides more bandwidth?
05:15:33 <Kuschelpony> and a single "gound" works only well for very slow signals
05:15:46 <Kuschelpony> not directly more bandwith but crosstalk issues
05:16:06 <Kuschelpony> if you have some fast switching lines, you need minimum inductivity
05:16:41 <Kuschelpony> every signla line needs its most closed return loine as a pair, where the curent from one line can find its way back in closest neighbourhood
05:17:55 <Nothing\> So what's the advantage over using ground rails over just say, a gap with the same dimensions as a ground pin?
05:18:15 <Nothing\> a sort of sacrificial coupling
05:18:22 <Nothing\> i uess
05:18:33 <Kuschelpony> hmm, cant exactly understand what you mean
05:19:19 <Nothing\> yeah, between talking to you and looking for my ecig, i lost my train of thoughts lol
05:19:24 <Kuschelpony> think that way: the best thing is a ground plane, where the current that flows through a signal line can fit its exact mirror image in the ground plane
05:19:30 <Nothing\> i really wish i had a lanyard for this damn thing
05:19:31 <Kuschelpony> and "mirror" is physically real
05:19:59 <Nothing\> huh now that's an interesting concept
05:20:01 <Kuschelpony> ok, the very best thing is a differential pair, but here we are talking about the best way of single ended signals
05:20:10 <Kuschelpony> yep
05:20:27 <Nothing\> now that's one thing i've been sorta studying lately, or a while back anyways was differential pairs
05:20:37 <Kuschelpony> and any slit cross the groundplane that interrupts the current builds an antenna
05:20:43 <Nothing\> i was learning about motorola's ECL Logic chips. You ever hear of those?
05:20:54 <Nothing\> where they used differential pairs for logic gates
05:21:10 <Kuschelpony> yep, with diff pairs, and espicalyl if they are twisted, both currents are perfectly mated to each other and cancel out
05:21:17 <Kuschelpony> sure i know them
05:21:43 <Nothing\> does the twisting mitigate inductive coupling?
05:22:06 <Nothing\> i always thought to do that you had to loop the wire back on itself, and THEN twist
05:22:38 <Nothing\> i'm just thinking twisted pairs in a phone system
05:22:38 <Kuschelpony> what was used for example on the PATA cables was a frankenstein thing, where they took the benefits of wire pairs with mated currents, to the concept of signle ended lines (because they could not add a groundplane under the cable)
05:22:46 <Kuschelpony> hmm
05:22:57 <Kuschelpony> twisting minimizes inductivity of the wire pair at all
05:23:06 <Nothing\> ahh i see
05:23:18 <Kuschelpony> even if there would be nothing around where it could couple to,m it still does less "brakling" of the fast waves
05:23:19 * Ampera sneezes a few times
05:23:27 <Nothing\> yeah i just got into the habit of twisting any power cords when i was playing with inductive circuits
05:23:34 <Kuschelpony> hihi
05:23:42 <Nothing\> like trying to get an RLC to ring. Which i've yet to do :/
05:23:56 <Kuschelpony> i do it all the time to twist wire pairs, it never hurts (if you pick the right wires)
05:24:00 <Nothing\> cuz my 100mh inductors also have like 400 ohms of resistance :/
05:24:16 <Kuschelpony> first of all leave the R out and get as much L and C as realistic
05:24:20 * T3sl4 hides his copper chloride
05:25:12 <T3sl4> Nothing\: you need C < L / R^2
05:25:20 <Kuschelpony> my slowest LC circuit i made of curiousity was from an microwave oven transformer secondary and a small bank of bipolar elkos
05:25:34 <Kuschelpony> think about a resonance at around 150mHz
05:26:02 <Kuschelpony> i very miss schooldays
05:26:05 <Nothing\> copper sulphate's a cool copper salt
05:26:18 <Nothing\> one of the reasons i wanted to get into chemistry was so i could make copper sulphate
05:26:19 <Kuschelpony> espically a nice deep blue one
05:26:39 <Nothing\> i've also always wanted to see cerenkov radiation with my own eyes
05:26:43 <Nothing\> that is, not on video
05:27:04 <Nothing\> just the deep glow of a reactor underwater. No criticality accidents.
05:27:11 <Kuschelpony> mmh, thats a thing i prefer to stay very far away...
05:27:30 <Nothing\> yeah i watched a video about a criticality accident the other day
05:27:47 <Nothing\> normally i'm fine with medical stuff, but this guy got so messed up, i couldn't finish the video.
05:28:09 <Kuschelpony> ouch, well i do know lots of these things in text form and prefer to not watch videos...
05:28:25 <T3sl4> if it was the latest from the uh
05:28:28 <Nothing\> skin falling off, intestines sloughing off, lung tissue sloughing off. Basically no hair or skin left anywhere on his body
05:28:28 <T3sl4> what's his name
05:28:38 <Nothing\> and those were the less nasty effects
05:28:52 <Nothing\> yeah it was a new video
05:28:56 <T3sl4> oh that was probably the incident in japan
05:28:58 <Nothing\> i forget the channel
05:29:00 <Nothing\> yup
05:29:05 <Nothing\> japan, 98 i believe
05:29:16 <Kuschelpony> btw: if you want to know the name of someone who got very very lucky in an radiation accident, Anatoli Bugovski
05:29:17 <Nothing\> the video had a title like "the most radioactive man alive"
05:29:19 <T3sl4> repro facility, too much stuff in a tank
05:29:25 <Nothing\> which is a bit of a misnomer but whatever
05:29:44 <Nothing\> yeah they mixed the uranyl hexafluoride in buckets
05:29:54 <Nothing\> then just dumped it into a tank
05:30:30 <Nothing\> cuz they were behind schedule and cutting corners to increase productivity so they could meet their next shipment date
05:30:42 <Kuschelpony> if i remember right,m the japanese accidents of the 2000s were that they used homestore buckets instead of the designed measuring cups
05:30:51 <Nothing\> which always seems to be the case with industrial/chemical accidents
05:31:06 <Kuschelpony> but the tank critically was an american 1960s thing
05:31:21 <Kuschelpony> but to be honest, i prefer electronic engineering rather than nuclear disasters
05:31:27 <Nothing\> i watch this one channel that goes over various industrial accidents from the United States Chemical Safety Board. It's really good if you like that sorta stuff.
05:32:05 <Nothing\> and it's the actual USCSB's channel. So it's not exaggerated or turned into masturbatory material for gore-philes
05:32:15 <Nothing\> you know the sorts of channels i mean
05:32:54 <Kuschelpony> i dont know... perhaps because i never watch any videos at all
05:32:54 <Nothing\> where they focus more on the gore and horror and have creepy music and stupid shit like that
05:33:09 <Nothing\> Kuschelpony, on youtube that's mostly for the best
05:33:21 <Nothing\> but there are some genuinely great educational channels on youtube
05:33:29 <Kuschelpony> i have already seen lots of (luckily non-gory) accidents at university in person, sometimes repairing the equipment later...
05:33:51 <Nothing\> man i've always regretted not getting into academia
05:33:59 <Nothing\> are you student or faculty?
05:34:09 <Kuschelpony> nothing, my brain generally cant "digest" videos where i am (hope thats translated rtight) "force fed" with something in external set speed
05:34:24 <Kuschelpony> im related to faculty, never went into academia itself
05:35:03 <Nothing\> Kuschelpony, ah i know exactly what you mean. I have that problem when it comes to reading vs watching something. I prefer to read stuff because then i can take the information in at my own pace and stop to take notes or something if need be
05:35:18 <Kuschelpony> absolutely right
05:35:25 <Nothing\> even though i seem to learn better in a visual style. Being shown first, then trying it myself.
05:36:04 <Kuschelpony> im even that special, that i do not read sequential, but 2digest" whole pages in a kind of paralell input where my brain builds networks between drawings and text passages
05:36:16 <Kuschelpony> mmh, i cant learn at all...
05:36:37 <Kuschelpony> i can only "wick up" the theory and the functional description
05:36:51 <Nothing\> yeah i have ADD (not ADHD) so reading anything is almost physically painful for me
05:37:05 <Kuschelpony> then i just have the feeling how i should do it and with the first clumsy practical experience the mental model improves
05:37:15 <Kuschelpony> oh that must be shit
05:37:20 <Nothing\> i have to constantly bring my attention back to what i'm doing, dozens of times over the course of less than an hour
05:37:23 <Kuschelpony> i have Aspergers, different bucket of shit
05:37:26 <Nothing\> literally every minute or two
05:38:08 <Nothing\> ah, i always wondered if i was on the spectrum, but i yearn for human interaction too much, i think.
05:38:24 <Kuschelpony> thats usual but not absolutely
05:38:39 <Nothing\> cuz i live a rather reclusive life. So there are times where I wish I had a clique of friends i was close with, or a soulmate, or something. Ya know?
05:39:08 <Kuschelpony> i do have a strong desire for human interaction, just need it in a specific calm setting and without the pressure to process mimic and gestic interaction or voice subleties
05:39:09 <Nothing\> but tbh i enjoy reclusiveness more than not
05:39:22 <Kuschelpony> mmh
05:39:37 <Nothing\> but there are still times where i wish i had a social life
05:39:47 <Kuschelpony> i do like my house in a silent village with forests just right around to relax in nature
05:39:53 <Nothing\> but if i think about it realistically, i know i'd never be able to keep up any sort of social life.
05:40:01 <Kuschelpony> but i also want to go out for some action
05:40:03 <Nothing\> or gf/so
05:40:16 <Nothing\> yeah like i miss the social interactions
05:40:28 <Nothing\> like ragging on a shitting movie together with someone
05:40:37 <Kuschelpony> mmh, i tried but never understood females... perhaps im closer to gay, just can say i go much better with most males
05:40:52 <Nothing\> maybe you're bi?
05:40:58 <Kuschelpony> hih, no for me its more like a going swimming or on a mountain tour
05:41:08 <Nothing\> bi with tendencies towards the homosexual end of the spectrum
05:41:17 <Kuschelpony> and well, there is also the very specific kinky nice of beeing a showpony
05:41:27 <Nothing\> or just uncertainty because you've never really explored that end of the spectrum before in terms of actions.
05:41:35 <Kuschelpony> mybe noit bi but more like queer
05:41:44 <Nothing\> right
05:41:45 <Kuschelpony> i often call me a colorful butterfly
05:42:38 <Nothing\> i'd say you probably need to experiment in that regard. But I'd imagine it'd be hard to find somebody to safely experiment with that doesn't just want to take advantage of what's essentially a virgin. I mean, you know how guys are when it comes to virgins.
05:43:14 <Kuschelpony> the past some 10 years my interest about electronics has considerably dropped, but i still do it for doing useful stuff with my brain capacity and to DIY some individual stuff
05:43:31 <Nothing\> At least in the west. A virgin is considered like, the holy grail of women to sleep with. So I'd imagine the same logic applies to gay men "initiating" men who are curious
05:43:41 <Kuschelpony> uhm... just to say... im perhaps already 25 years past of that what you worry here...
05:44:04 <Nothing\> well then. That saves us some trouble lol.
05:44:54 <Nothing\> hrm i just got this urge to play this spiderman game i used to have on the megadrive/genesis
05:45:08 <Kuschelpony> but its right, those upto about 30 in age are very desired, the older ones either are expected to have married or they are dropped as uninteresting
05:45:28 <Nothing\> spiderman vs the kingpin
05:45:45 <Kuschelpony> oh interesting
05:45:57 <Nothing\> heh by the time i was 30 i'd already been married, had a kid and divorced
05:46:05 <Nothing\> actually, i did all of that before i was even 25
05:46:13 <Kuschelpony> i do not much more than minesweeper in between, but had in the past enjoyed the classic jump n run games as well
05:46:30 <Nothing\> if you like minesweeper, you should check out globesweeper
05:46:35 <Kuschelpony> well im almost 44 and dedicated to be single
05:46:36 <Nothing\> it's a 3d version of minesweeper
05:46:44 <Nothing\> that is, the boards are 3d
05:46:54 <Kuschelpony> oh ok
05:47:16 <Nothing\> you can have a sphere with hex/pentagonal pieces, one with triangular pieces and your classic block with squares
05:47:31 <Nothing\> and you can have absolutely massive boards
05:47:40 <Nothing\> like, ones that can take hours to complete
05:47:48 <Nothing\> which really sucks when you make a little mistake lol
05:48:17 <Nothing\> it's funny how many people have played mine sweeper, but have no idea how to actually play it
05:48:26 <Nothing\> simply because it came with windows
05:48:52 <Nothing\> they need to bring back the classics, jezz ball, ski free, hover
05:48:55 <Kuschelpony> hmm, no idea about windows...
05:48:59 <Nothing\> ESPECIALLY HOVER
05:49:11 <Nothing\> always been a linux man?
05:49:20 <Kuschelpony> i usually solve the 30*16 boqard with 99 mines in around 2:20
05:49:27 <Nothing\> nice
05:49:31 <Nothing\> what is that? medium?
05:49:33 <Nothing\> or custom?
05:49:42 <Nothing\> no, medium has 90 mines doesn't it
05:49:49 <Nothing\> i'm not sure of the dimensions
05:49:52 <Kuschelpony> started with Win3.11 extreme tuning :) diud use a while NT and then decided to not start with XP and instead set up Ubuntu
05:50:06 <Kuschelpony> thats the default "maxi" in lunux minesweeper
05:50:15 <Nothing\> ah i see
05:50:38 <Nothing\> linux has never served my gaming needs well enough to be good as a primary OS
05:51:29 <Nothing\> but for a time, all of my electronics had been seized by police and i wasn't allowed to use any. So I found having a Pi 3 was perfect to fill that niche
05:51:48 <Nothing\> (smacked my brother's ex on the ass while i was drunk and she charged my with sexual assault"
05:51:48 <Kuschelpony> im not into gaming, but have a strong preference for small and efficient software that just runs well, and espically absolutely no licensing and remote activating shit
05:51:52 <Nothing\> ")
05:52:04 <Kuschelpony> oh ok
05:52:11 <Kuschelpony> i dont even have a secondary OS...
05:52:23 <Nothing\> so the cops raided my place and stole all of my electronics looking for messages between us and any other evidence of sexual deviance
05:52:54 <Nothing\> so i wound up using raspbian for a couple of years while i dealt with that
05:53:18 <Nothing\> and man, pi 3bs suck so bad at video
05:53:35 <Nothing\> i couldn't even stream youtube from it. but thankfully my tv could stream youtube.
05:54:18 <Nothing\> but like, i've always tried linux now and then over the years. Just to see what's changed or to give it a try and various other reasons
05:54:37 <Nothing\> since the days thta redhat 7 was released
05:54:50 <Nothing\> which before getting my pi, had been the last time i used linux lol
05:55:20 <Kuschelpony> i just arted into Ubuntu, and when some issues came with that changed to Xubuntu
05:55:32 <Kuschelpony> that just runs
05:55:39 <Kuschelpony> also here on that laptop right now
05:55:54 <Lemon> should I get a kit of tantalum caps ?
05:55:57 <Nothing\> the pi wasn't a total waste though. There's an amazing 8051/52 simulator for linux that I wish so much I could use on windows. Or they had a Windows port.
05:56:04 <Lemon> or I can use another type instead of those
05:56:13 <Nothing\> Every so often I boot up my pi just for the sake of playing with that
05:56:29 <Nothing\> i tried ubuntu but the IDE... what's it called...
05:56:32 <Nothing\> unity
05:56:36 <Nothing\> it just felt so horrible
05:56:42 <Nothing\> like something steve jobs would make
05:56:48 <Kuschelpony> yeah... that was the second reaon i stopped Ubuntu
05:56:49 <rust_collector> the ide, eh?
05:56:54 <Nothing\> or rather, something that a steve jobs fanboy would make
05:56:59 <Kuschelpony> the Deskopt
05:57:06 <Nothing\> rust_collector, whatever you call them
05:57:11 <rust_collector> mmhmm
05:57:17 <Nothing\> i mean, windows 3.1 was an ide for dos
05:57:29 <Kuschelpony> as said, try XUbuntu, its more of a clean and minimalistic appoach
05:57:33 <Kuschelpony> like Win NT
05:58:16 <Kuschelpony> best thing is, in Win3.1 and 3.11 you could replace the desktop with entirely different programs, like i used the Silverwolf Desktop
05:58:21 <Nothing\> right now the only reason i'd get linux is so i can code c++ cuz for some reason none of my IDEs can find my compiler
05:58:29 <Nothing\> which was meng or mingw or something
05:58:33 <Nothing\> i forget it's been years
05:58:45 <rust_collector> i used blackbox on windows 7. that was interesting, and confusing
05:59:01 <Nothing\> codeblocks couldn't find any damn compiler i installed
05:59:06 <Nothing\> rust_collector, i see the mistake i made now
05:59:11 <Nothing\> i said ide when i meant gui
05:59:12 <rust_collector> hah
05:59:19 <Nothing\> brain fart lol
05:59:25 * electrohead hands vim to Nothing\ as an IDE
05:59:41 <Nothing\> lol i never did learn VIM or EMACS
05:59:58 <Nothing\> notepad++ was always good enough for me on windows
05:59:58 <rust_collector> regualt vi is good anough
06:00:12 <electrohead> vim is nice, it's minimal, and efficient
06:00:20 <electrohead> regular vi? nah, lol
06:00:25 <Nothing\> or on raspbian, i forget what i used but it was a nice gui based text editor
06:00:28 <electrohead> if I have to use it, then I use it
06:00:44 <electrohead> for a GUI based editor, I purchased a license for sublime
06:00:49 <electrohead> it's really good
06:00:55 <rust_collector> ok, use the busybox vi? or ed? alll the options
06:01:04 <Nothing\> oh hey
06:01:19 <Nothing\> do you guys know of a good engineering and/or graphing calculator for windows?
06:01:26 <Nothing\> engineering/scientific
06:01:29 <rust_collector> no
06:01:34 <Nothing\> i know, right?
06:01:51 <Nothing\> i mean, it comes with a nice graphing calculator now that can give desmos a run for its money
06:02:24 <Nothing\> but i want something with the functionality of an actual hand held calculator
06:02:32 <Nothing\> like a TI Nspire
06:03:07 <electrohead> https://github.com/xxczaki/awesome-calculators#windows
06:03:09 <EEVBot> [Title] - GitHub - xxczaki/awesome-calculators: 😎 A curated list of resources related to calculators!
06:03:14 <Nothing\> ooh nice
06:03:15 <Nothing\> thanks
06:03:25 <rust_collector> I don't really get the idea of making your computer do all the things. just get a calculator, to calculate?
06:03:35 <Nothing\> i've always found github's layout to be a bit confusing so i tend to ignore it if i can
06:03:44 <electrohead> it's not hard at all :p
06:04:07 <Nothing\> it's just weird that to download a zip of all of the contents you have to click the button that says "download code" or something like that
06:04:17 <Nothing\> no, it's pretty straight forward once you get used to it
06:05:00 <Nothing\> but at first it confused me cuz i felt like it was trying to get me to download the source code for whatever it was
06:05:03 <rust_collector> well, you can be weird, and open each file, and copy and paste...
06:05:05 <electrohead> it's weird you have to click on download, to download something?
06:05:08 <electrohead> lol..
06:05:22 <Nothing\> not so much download, just the "code" part threw my off
06:05:23 <electrohead> or better yet, just clone the repo from CLI
06:05:34 <Nothing\> itoris
06:05:39 <electrohead> lol
06:05:46 <Nothing\> come on, you know you thought it at one point
06:05:55 <electrohead> there's a windows version of the git utilities, btw
06:06:20 <Nothing\> it's like that guy on stardew valley, clint
06:06:23 <electrohead> https://git-scm.com/download/win
06:06:24 <EEVBot> [Title] - Git - Downloading Package
06:06:31 <electrohead> that's for you windows fan boys :p
06:06:32 <Nothing\> i always do the same thing to his name. If you ever played that game.
06:06:38 <Nothing\> which you probably haven't
06:06:38 <electrohead> nah, I haven't
06:06:43 <Nothing\> heh, called it
06:06:50 <Nothing\> i feel like a minority here
06:07:10 <Nothing\> next i'll find out i'm the only one here who owns a nintendo switch
06:07:31 <electrohead> I still want to get a switch, just to hack
06:07:39 <electrohead> I have the original Wii
06:07:41 <Nothing\> dude, word of advice
06:07:45 <Nothing\> if you get a switch
06:07:53 <Nothing\> GET BREATH OF WILD
06:07:55 <Nothing\> GET IT
06:08:17 <Nothing\> seriously, it's hands down the best game i've ever played in my entire life. And I don't say that lightly at all.
06:08:21 <electrohead> I've heard of that, not my cup of tea
06:08:35 <Nothing\> that's too bad
06:08:48 <Nothing\> mario's pretty awesome too
06:08:54 <Nothing\> mario odyssey
06:09:20 <Nothing\> although they have a bunch of 2d/2.5d/3d mario games they've made since then, too
06:09:37 <Nothing\> made or rereleased from the wii u
06:10:04 <Nothing\> cuz let's face it, the Wii U was the Windows ME of Nintendo
06:10:26 <electrohead> lol
06:10:33 <electrohead> any mario game I'll play
06:10:49 <Nothing\> well, mario odyssey is another amazing game
06:11:09 <Nothing\> it's got the classic star/moon/sun/whatever hunting mechanic, right
06:11:24 <Nothing\> but the areas are a bit more open ended
06:11:37 <Nothing\> and there are i think 900 of these things to collect through the whole game
06:11:51 <Nothing\> so there's a ton of end-game content
06:12:09 <Nothing\> i've put almost just as much money into mario as i have into zelda
06:12:53 * T3sl4 drops a korok poop on Nothing\'s head
06:13:26 <Nothing\> the switch also has this mario game called mario 35, or something like that. Which is like a VS mode of Super Mario Bros 1. I haven't plaed it much, but it's like tetris where you can do stuff and add enemies to somebody's screen and stuff like that until there's one guy left standing.
06:13:40 <Nothing\> lol T3sl4 it does look more like poop, doesn't it
06:13:46 <T3sl4> it's canon, too
06:13:50 <Nothing\> and that would explain the smell the're always talking about
06:13:53 <Nothing\> haha really?
06:14:14 <Nothing\> T3sl4, i started a new game in breath of wild lol
06:14:22 <T3sl4> when you get the last one and bring it to whatsisname, he gives you a really big one that has a...coiled appearance
06:15:33 <Nothing\> i didn't even finish my original game. I got into the end game content so I could get the bike. But it gets kinda lame when you're just stuck trying to do a shrine and you can't really explore or do anything fun
06:16:09 <Nothing\> lol you mean people have actually collected all of the korok seeds? And that the game actually expected some people to do this?
06:16:18 <T3sl4> just learn bomb jumps, you can skip like half the shrines that way lol
06:16:28 <T3sl4> there's a completion meter on the map my dude
06:16:40 <T3sl4> the 100% speedrun takes literally 21 hours or something
06:16:42 <Nothing\> it's not that i need to skip them, it's that i need hearts so i have no choice
06:16:48 Quit: Kuschelpony ([email protected]) Connection closed
06:16:56 <Nothing\> lol my first run took 350 hours to get to ganon
06:17:01 <Nothing\> but i really took my time
06:17:10 <T3sl4> the fastest speedrun takes like 28 minutes to get to ganon
06:17:29 <T3sl4> both are pretty insane, for obvious reasons
06:17:32 <Nothing\> i was afraid if i got to the end, that'd be it and i'd have to start a new game and i wouldn't have access to any of my other end game stuff
06:17:53 <Nothing\> yeah i read that you can pretty much go straight to ganon after the first 4 shrines
06:18:58 <T3sl4> you know the gorgeous opening cutscene when you leave the start area?
06:19:08 <T3sl4> they even have a way to skip that, clip through the wall. lol
06:19:13 <Nothing\> yup, i've actually got a poster of it in my room
06:19:21 <Nothing\> damn
06:19:33 <Nothing\> yeah i can only imagine the stuff they've found in this game
06:20:04 <Nothing\> i like to keep my glitch interests to simpler games just cuz the glitches are simpler. Plus I like to learn about how they work from a CS point of view
06:20:26 <Nothing\> so it's easier to understand a glitch on the SNES and NES as opposed to the switch
06:20:51 <Nothing\> not to mention, glitches on more modern systems seem to be a lot harder to implement
06:20:59 <T3sl4> RGMEx is a nice channel yeah
06:21:08 <Nothing\> i'll be damned if i can do half of the glitch jumps in mario odyssey
06:21:16 <Nothing\> hell, even the regular jumps are hard
06:22:19 <Nothing\> T3sl4, oh retro game mechanics explained
06:22:25 <Nothing\> yeah, i friggin LOVE this channel
06:22:44 <Nothing\> it's taught me so much about the basics of how the 8/16 bit systems worked
06:23:32 <Nothing\> also T3sl4 if you're familiar with 6502 at all
06:23:34 <Nothing\> https://gist.github.com/1wErt3r/4048722
06:23:54 <Nothing\> there's a complete and comprehensively detailed disassembly of super mario bros on the NES
06:23:56 <EEVBot> [Title] - A Comprehensive Super Mario Bros. Disassembly · GitHub
06:24:17 <Nothing\> i've learned a lot of 6502 assembly just studying the code and referencing it to the documentation
06:26:17 <DHess_US> 6502 isn't very complicated. PIC assembly is very similar.
06:28:14 <Nothing\> really/
06:28:22 <Nothing\> i've always wanted to learn PIC
06:28:38 <Nothing\> actually DHess_US i've noticed a lot of assembly languages from the 80's are very similar
06:28:48 <DHess_US> The similarity just comes from being accumulator based ISAs.
06:29:03 <Nothing\> they may have different mnemonics, but the basic architecture is the same
06:29:19 <Nothing\> yeah i guess that makes sense
06:29:42 <Nothing\> plus i'm sure a regular CPU would be very different from a vector processor
06:29:45 <Nothing\> or a math processor
06:30:02 <Nothing\> heh a math co-processor
06:30:07 <Nothing\> what was up with those anyways
06:30:22 <DHess_US> PIC has been around almost as long as 6502. AVR is much like Z80 because they both have a bank of general purpose registers.
06:30:57 <T3sl4> eh, more like a... narrow 68k? that had general registers didn't it
06:31:01 <Nothing\> DHess_US, htat's interesting cuz for desktop based stuff, i prefer the 6502
06:31:31 <DHess_US> T3sl4, or that. The 8080 was accumulator based but Z80 extended the instruction set to be more like 68k.
06:31:41 <T3sl4> Z80 is kinda mixed between GP, accumulator oriented arithmetic, and crufty special cases like x86 went on to commit
06:31:55 <DHess_US> x86 copied what Z80 did.
06:31:59 <Nothing\> actually there's an outstanding emulator for the 8086 i'd be remiss if i didn't mention it
06:32:11 <Nothing\> you guys ever heard of or played with emu8086?
06:32:27 <DHess_US> I don't think so
06:32:40 <Nothing\> it's not free, but can be torrented easily enough
06:33:14 <Nothing\> but it's a full emulation of an 8086 with simulations for hardware like LEDs and 7 segment displays and stuff
06:33:26 <Nothing\> or you even program your own IO devices
06:33:43 <T3sl4> there's also https://www.ioccc.org/2013/cable3/hint.html
06:33:44 <EEVBot> [Title] - Largest small system emulator
06:34:10 <Nothing\> i really can't do it justice with my gushing, but if you low level, old school programming is your thing, emu8086 is right up your alley
06:34:31 <Nothing\> T3sl4, ooh interesting
06:34:42 <DHess_US> 6502 programmers would be comfortable with PIC. 8080/Z80 programmers would be more comfortable with AVR.
06:35:07 <Nothing\> https://emu8086-microprocessor-emulator.en.softonic.com/download
06:35:08 <EEVBot> [Title] - Download EMU8086 - MICROPROCESSOR EMULATOR - latest version
06:35:11 <DHess_US> I tend to ignore 68k because Motorola were assholes.
06:35:15 <Nothing\> that's right, emu8086 has a 30 day free trial
06:35:32 <Nothing\> DHess_US, yeah i've never done anything with the 68k
06:35:48 <T3sl4> i recall hearing that, for much of its history, 68k was expensive and/or unavailable?
06:35:50 <Nothing\> i have an emulator, easy68k but i've yet to do anything with it
06:36:10 <Nothing\> T3sl4, that's probably a big reason why the 6502 was so popular
06:36:10 <DHess_US> Motorola products were chronically short on availability, so they got ignored or designed out of a lot of products.
06:36:37 <Nothing\> had the same functionality as the 68k, but no red tape and probably crazy cheap by comparison
06:36:38 <DHess_US> I still have a pair of 68HC I/O expanders that showed up months too late causing us to switch to PIC.
06:36:41 <T3sl4> the 6502 itself was a significant undercut to the 6800, to which it is, or nearly, binary compatible IIRC
06:37:02 <Nothing\> T3sl4, enough to warrant a lawsuit
06:37:24 <Nothing\> okay i should really go pee and have a smoke. I haven't smoked at all yet today
06:37:52 <DHess_US> Was the lawsuit over instructions or patents? It might not have been until later that the courts ruled that you can't copyright an ISA.
06:38:27 <DHess_US> MIPS learned from that and deliberately included a couple instruction which could only be duplicated by violating their patents.
06:39:09 <DHess_US> Which was a good move for MIPS, but bad for the MIPS market, so they got all of nothing for it.
06:41:43 <T3sl4> MIPS always enjoyed a modest popularity, it seems
06:42:20 <DHess_US> Right, but their shenanigans contributed to their losing the workstation market.
06:42:48 <DHess_US> Most processors can survive in the embedded market, which is what happened.
06:43:45 <T3sl4> SGI workstations were probably a big win, but bigger for SGI than MIPS, that can't be many units
06:44:08 <T3sl4> hm, what was the biggest production order before PS/N64?
06:46:28 <DHess_US> Printers?
06:46:39 <DHess_US> Well, print engines?
06:46:51 <DHess_US> 29K survived in print engines for a long time.
06:47:16 <DHess_US> Didn't some car ECUs use MIPS? PowerPC is popular there for some reason.
06:48:06 <T3sl4> ah, probably
06:48:53 <DHess_US> We probably would have used AVR instead of PIC if AVR had been available at the time.
06:49:33 <DHess_US> But Microchip was one of the first "cheap" EEPROM/FLASH microcontrollers.
06:49:44 <DHess_US> 16C84
06:50:06 <DHess_US> Motorola had the 68HC811 ... but getting parts out of them was futile.
06:50:27 <T3sl4> heh, i have a tube of a few 16C71, 72 and 73s
06:50:40 <T3sl4> the 71s are OTP but the others are windowed CERDIP
06:50:45 <DHess_US> I have some of the 8 pin ceramic EPROM PICs.
06:50:59 <DHess_US> Somewhere
06:51:05 <T3sl4> 97-98 date codes, not terrifically old as those things go
06:51:16 <DHess_US> But everything got replaced with the 16C84 when it became available.
06:51:30 <T3sl4> cute
06:51:51 <DHess_US> plastic package and electrically erasable and cheaper.
06:55:29 <Nothing\> holy crap it's hot out today
06:55:53 <Nothing\> curses to anyone who says canada's cold and snowy
06:56:57 <Nothing\> 92 degrees
06:56:59 <Nothing\> not too bad
06:57:19 <Nothing\> i guess it IS june now. Hard as it is to believe
06:57:35 <Nothing\> may seemede to go by so fast
07:00:00 <Nothing\> reckon it's about time to crack out the ol' air con when i feel like it
07:00:06 <DHess_US> There was a good movie about Canadian weather.
07:00:18 <Nothing\> was it called strange brew?
07:00:26 <Nothing\> that's probably the best canadian movie ever
07:00:42 <DHess_US> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0337721/
07:00:44 <Nothing\> bob and doug mackenzie. Classic
07:00:45 <EEVBot> [Title] - The Snow Walker (2003) - IMDb
07:00:47 <T3sl4> getting sweaty here too
07:00:52 <Nothing\> oh it's a true story
07:01:25 <Nothing\> huh this actually looks kinda good DHess_US
07:01:40 <Nothing\> even though it's not anything that'd be up my alley, so to speak.
07:01:49 <DHess_US> It is a great movie.
07:02:01 <DHess_US> It was very well executed.
07:02:24 <Nothing\> -i don't even watch movies anymore as it is. Usually
07:02:44 <Nothing\> Of course I make exceptions
07:03:54 <Nothing\> i was just tihnking i should spread flyers around the neighbourhood for an event where we all just leave our houses for 60 seconds for no reason in particular.
07:04:20 <Nothing\> you can chat with neighbours, you can look at the clouds, smell the fresh air, whatever.
07:04:54 <Nothing\> but it'd be the entire neighbourhood for 60 seconds. Or more if they feel like it.
07:05:19 <Nothing\> or maybe wait until after covid for that lol
07:06:43 <DHess_US> Taking apart a Tektronix TM503 mainframe. Besides the capacitors, I need to decide what parts should be preemptively replaced.
07:07:54 <Nothing\> If there's anything power related, i'd say that
07:08:54 <DHess_US> No reason to change the power transistors, but I will check them. At the least I would order spares for the transistors, bridge rectifier, and rectifier diodes.
07:09:17 <DHess_US> I might change the rectifier diodes for quieter ones.
07:09:19 <Nothing\> ah yeah, i was just talking about the passives
07:09:41 <DHess_US> It has 3 big electrolytic capacitors.
07:09:54 <Nothing\> semiconductors SHOULD be fine. Assuming it's been run properly throughout it's life.
07:10:18 <DHess_US> The bridge rectifiers are known to fail.
07:10:27 <Nothing\> i did not know that
07:10:40 <Nothing\> i'd always heard it was the caps to look out for
07:10:42 <DHess_US> Just in general, but not necessarily on this instrument.
07:10:58 <Nothing\> what era are you talking about? like 4007s? or older?
07:11:11 <DHess_US> The DM502 I just refurbished had a bridge rectifier which was half open, and all open by the time I removed it.
07:11:21 <DHess_US> 70s
07:11:28 <Nothing\> ah okay
07:11:42 <DHess_US> So I refurbished both of my DM502s
07:12:16 <DHess_US> https://ibb.co/xz31PNp https://ibb.co/nnyHRyJ
07:12:17 <EEVBot> [Title] - DM502-Repaired — ImgBB
07:12:21 <Nothing\> well, 1N400X diodes date back to 1963
07:12:27 <Nothing\> surprisingly enough
07:12:29 <DHess_US> Added TVS diodes across the regulated supplies also.
07:12:58 <DHess_US> Replaced the TI edge wipe socket which holds the regulator with collet pins.
07:13:14 <Nothing\> it's funny how old these electronics i'm always playing around with really are
07:13:29 <Nothing\> i might think "oh this was probably made around the '80s"
07:13:45 <DHess_US> These are 1979 and 1974
07:13:51 <Nothing\> then find out it's closer the the 70's or 60's. Depending what it is.
07:14:24 <DHess_US> My oldest test instrument that I use is probably my 250DA ESI impedance bridge
07:14:32 <Nothing\> lol this 6502 i have doesn't even have a date code on it
07:14:37 <DHess_US> But I just got a DE-5000
07:14:40 <Nothing\> which i find highly suspect
07:14:44 <DHess_US> Check underneath
07:14:50 <Nothing\> hrm lemme see
07:14:51 <Nothing\> brb
07:16:15 <Nothing\> lol
07:16:23 <Nothing\> the date code says 3438
07:16:35 <Nothing\> methinks this is a phony
07:16:40 <Nothing\> i'll take a pic
07:18:42 <Nothing\> https://ibb.co/RDKXwKG
07:18:43 <EEVBot> [Title] - 20210605-171711 — ImgBB
07:18:50 <Nothing\> see, it's a really plain looking chip
07:19:05 <Nothing\> with what's clearly an incorrect date code
07:19:37 <Nothing\> and no, there was nothing at all underneath it
07:20:56 <Nothing\> like, the other NMOS 6502 I have has a more stylized MOS logo and actually has a datecode which makes sense
07:21:08 <Nothing\> and none of it's anywhere it is on this chip
07:22:08 <Nothing\> but without intensive testing i couldn't possibly do at this point in my life, it'll be impossible to know.
07:23:52 <Nothing\> that's the problem with suspected counterfeited chips on aliexpress. It takes a long time just to test a batch of 10 chips
07:24:08 <Nothing\> nevermind the hundreds of chips i have in my collection
07:25:00 <DHess_US> <Nothing\> with what's clearly an incorrect date code
07:25:02 <DHess_US> No.
07:25:12 <DHess_US> That is the date code, but you have to check the datasheet to decode it.
07:25:30 <DHess_US> Not all date codes are week/year
07:27:51 <Nothing\> oh, i didn't knw that
07:28:03 <Nothing\> that's interesting. Thanks for letting me know
07:30:14 <T3sl4> don't know that i've seen a 4-digit code that wasn't the usual kind tho, usually if they do something different it's 3 or 2 chars and alphanumeric coded
07:30:28 <T3sl4> or if 3 digits, they just omit the decade
07:31:46 <DHess_US> National used a lot of 4 digit date codes with alphanumerics.
07:32:31 <T3sl4> ah
07:32:42 <DHess_US> Here is a national 308 marked 835C
07:33:00 <Nothing\> here's a really neat programming based game i found
07:33:02 <Nothing\> https://microcorruption.com/
07:33:53 <Nothing\> you use assembly language to hack these locks with MCUs in them
07:34:15 <Nothing\> and try to figure out the password
07:34:16 <T3sl4> protip: masterlock likes MSP430s
07:34:29 <Nothing\> no shit?
07:34:39 <Nothing\> i guess that's why they went with it for this game
07:34:55 <Nothing\> but thanks, i was strugggling to remember what MCU it used
07:35:25 <Nothing\> i wonder if that means that this is basically a guide for hacking masterlocks lol
07:35:46 <Nothing\> if it's based somewhat in reality, the similarities probably go further
07:38:08 <T3sl4> it actually does? lol
07:38:39 <Nothing\> does what?
07:39:05 <T3sl4> use msp
07:39:19 <Nothing\> yeah, the game's based on the MSP430 lol
07:39:28 <Nothing\> i was surprised you figured that out so fast
07:39:38 <Nothing\> but apparently you didn't
07:41:46 <T3sl4> i mean i've seen the design files for at least one of their boards, and i don't think it's any secret to anyone who's opened one up :)
07:42:33 <Nothing\> ah, see, i've never torn one down before. Or looked at circuit diagrams
07:42:56 <Nothing\> heh, no sanding off the name of the chip?
07:43:44 <Nothing\> i never got that. Is your design really THAT ground breaking that you need to go to those lengths to hide it?
07:45:52 <Nothing\> hrm i wanna play binding of isaac but i have no idea which version to play
07:45:59 <Nothing\> there are like 4 or 5 different versions
07:49:15 <Nothing\> repentance, afterbirth+, afterbirth, rebirth complete bundle, regular binding of isaac, wrath of lamb, afterbirth+ bundle
07:49:33 <Nothing\> what the hell one am i supposed to buy

07:53:12 <Nothing\> electrohead, that musta taken a LONG time to make
07:53:49 <electrohead> yeah man
07:53:56 <electrohead> the dude did a really good job, too
07:53:57 <Nothing\> what i'd like to see is somebody doing a video like that without a computer
07:54:16 <Nothing\> oh it was outstanding the amount of work he put into it
07:54:34 <T3sl4> electrohead, and vice versa
07:57:29 <Nothing\> T3sl4, are you a soccer?
07:57:40 <T3sl4> que?
07:57:46 <Nothing\> a soccer
07:57:56 <Nothing\> you know, the sport where they kick the ball around
07:58:03 <Nothing\> football
07:58:40 <T3sl4> i've checked my balls, but my balls aren't checkered
07:59:05 <Nothing\> that's a good start, but i need to know for sure if you're a soccer
07:59:08 <DHess_US> In this power supply, they put 0.02uF capacitors across the diodes for the center-tapped full wave.
07:59:14 <Nothing\> things could depend on it
07:59:17 <Nothing\> actual THINGS
07:59:34 <DHess_US> I wonder how old this thing is ...
07:59:43 <Nothing\> bad idea: peeing in a fan
08:00:06 <Nothing\> worse idea: pooping in a fan
08:00:43 <electrohead> lol...
08:00:43 <DHess_US> 1976 I think
08:01:22 <Nothing\> worst idea: vomiting in a fan
08:01:43 <Nothing\> actually worst idea would probably be giving birth in a fan lol

08:33:35 <Nothing\> with a board that has socketed QFPs like this: https://ibb.co/QnMsVKF
08:33:35 <EEVBot> [Title] - 20210605-144655 — ImgBB
08:33:55 <Nothing\> how would you go about removing the chips. Just out of curiosity?
08:34:24 <Nothing\> obviously you'd need some sort of tool. Like for removing DIP chips from sockets
08:35:12 <T3sl4> Nothing\: PLCCs
08:35:21 <T3sl4> right, you need a hook shaped chip puller
08:35:36 <T3sl4> can probably manage with a carefully formed paperclip
08:35:48 <Nothing\> okay so that's not a qfp then?
08:36:09 <T3sl4> quad flat pins
08:36:21 <Nothing\> i don't deal with SMT much so i'm fuzzy on the different types of chips and so on
08:36:35 <T3sl4> QFN is quad flat nolead
08:36:48 <T3sl4> PLCC is the four sided version of SOJ, small outline j-lead
08:36:56 <Nothing\> frankly i'm still amazed at how tiny they can make passives
08:36:57 <T3sl4> i don't know that PLCC stands for anything?
08:37:14 <T3sl4> oh right, "plastic-leaded chip carrier" of course
08:37:24 <Nothing\> at least caps and resistors. There's not a whole lot you can do to miniaturize inductors is there?
08:37:34 <T3sl4> as opposed to the ceramic leadless LCC
08:38:00 <T3sl4> you can get inductors and ferrite beads in whatever small chip you like, they're just not rated for much
08:38:13 <Nothing\> yeah that's what i mean
08:38:27 <Nothing\> we need something like super inductors
08:38:48 <Nothing\> a tech that does for inductors what super caps did for capacitors
08:39:40 <T3sl4> let's see, DK stocks 0201s up to 470nH, rated for 50mA and 16.5 ohms
08:40:19 <rust_collector> dead kennedys have the bestest inductors
08:40:29 <T3sl4> terribly low Q lol
08:40:48 <T3sl4> everyone knows the best components come from cambodia
08:40:56 <Nothing\> rust_collector, holiday in cambodia?
08:40:56 <rust_collector> yeees
08:41:00 <Nothing\> lol
08:41:09 <rust_collector> they come on the police truck
08:41:20 <Nothing\> you'll work better with a gun in your back for a bowl of rice a day

08:42:14 <Ampera> how are you doing Nothing\
08:42:29 <Nothing\> a tad warm, but not bad
08:42:50 <Nothing\> actually, pretty good. Come to think of it
08:43:05 <Nothing\> aside from not being able to amuse myself in any way
08:43:12 * Ampera pours ice water all over Nothing\
08:43:20 <T3sl4> 01005s they have up to 56nH it seems, also with a max Q around 10 heh
08:43:34 <Nothing\> lol i would be so pissed off if anyone poured ice water on me
08:43:36 <T3sl4> basically useless below some 100s MHz
08:43:48 * Ampera simply pours ice on Nothing\

08:45:01 * Ampera skips to T3sl4's lou gehrig
08:45:17 <Nothing\> being on methadone, i'm super sensitive to sudden changes in temperature. Especially cold. I tried going swimming with my nieces once a few years ago at an indoor pool and it felt so cold that when I jumped in, it did that thing where it sucks the breath out of you. Ifyou've ever dove into icy water before
08:46:07 <Nothing\> it literally felt like i was doing to drown and/or hyperventilate to death because i had no control of my breath but i was in the water.
08:46:49 * rust_collector throws warm ice on Nothing\
08:47:16 <Nothing\> and the water wasn't even that cold. Like I said it was a normal indoor poor. Everyone else was enjoying and had no problem with the temperature of the pool.
08:47:27 <Nothing\> warm ice is cool
08:47:39 <Nothing\> i wanna buy a box of diapers just to get some

10:08:29 <T3sl4> no, that was electrohead
10:08:44 <T3sl4> wait
10:09:02 * T3sl4 shakes it with electrohead, the stamp shaking duo
10:26:03 <electrohead> lol
10:26:20 <electrohead> now why do I need to be a part of this?
11:30:58 * Halcyon fondles electrohead
11:34:36 * Ampera fondles Halcyon
11:34:43 <Ampera> you know I'm fondle of you
11:38:08 * T3sl4 spindles Ampera
11:38:41 * Ampera gives T3sl4 a bucket of R12
11:38:58 * T3sl4 gives Ampera a bucket of r34
11:39:17 <Halcyon> :D
11:39:23 * Ampera gives T3sl4 a bucket of lit M80's
11:39:43 <Ampera> how are you doing Halcyon
11:39:55 <T3sl4> why are you doing, Halcyon?
11:40:02 <Ampera> when are you doing, Halcyon?
11:41:22 <T3sl4> what are you, Ampera?
11:41:32 <Ampera> I am god.
11:41:40 <Ampera> I am your best nightmare.
11:41:45 <Ampera> I am your worst dream
11:41:58 <Ampera> I am insanity incarnate

11:44:39 <Ampera> T3sl4, did you see the group which one the eurovision song contest?
11:44:43 <Ampera> they were pretty good
11:44:48 <T3sl4> homovision? ew
11:45:04 <Ampera> I knew you were homophonic!

11:45:47 <T3sl4> this derdian seems like a bit folkier and classical version of manowar, or dragonforce with about 1/4th as many notes and half the tempo
11:46:05 <Ampera> I like them
11:46:23 <T3sl4> more metal than i was expecting to see from you, but a welcome one
11:46:23 <Ampera> They're italian too
11:46:44 <T3sl4> interesting, i was going to guess celtic influence
11:46:49 <T3sl4> well, maybe that's what they're going after, idk
11:47:11 <Ampera> Google, in its infinite wisdom, suggested them as I was listening to Heavenly

11:52:37 * T3sl4 d-d-d-drops Ampera like a fish
11:52:48 <Ampera> Thankfully not the only one, I think they got particularly high scores on the public vote
11:53:40 <T3sl4> it's a neat combination of styles
11:54:21 <T3sl4> and she can definitely sing well, even if they're fixing it up in post idk
11:54:38 <Ampera> It's sort of a style of singing, very hard to pull off live
11:54:52 <Ampera> she did very good in the semi-final, but was a bit rough in the final
11:55:19 <T3sl4> aw
11:55:20 <Ampera> T3sl4, did I ever link you Blonde Redhead?
11:55:24 <Ampera> they're also one of my favorites
11:55:28 <T3sl4> maybe?

11:55:45 <EEVBot> [Title] - Youtube: Misery Is a Butterfly
11:56:08 <T3sl4> oh yeah, i remember
11:56:19 <Ampera> also if you want to watch the eurovision song contest, I can either give it to you, or you can just youtube-dl it if you have a VPN or proxy with a Canadian or EU endpoint
11:56:52 <Ampera> the EBU puts it up on youtube in full each year, but geo blocked
11:57:27 <T3sl4> i wonder if any of their [blonde rh] tunes are in karaoke, i know a few people who could absolutely kill it
11:57:43 <Ampera> While I am my own ears, I can at least hit those notes
11:57:44 <T3sl4> although maybe not in exactly the same octave, she has a really high voice lol
11:58:00 <Ampera> I use it to try to exercise my voice (matching the singing)
11:58:24 <Ampera> My falsetto is /really/ high, I've been trying to articulate and control it
11:58:50 <Ampera> She has a sort of voice that's actually kinda easy to emulate with my falsetto, moreso than other female singers.
11:58:52 <T3sl4> there's a technique to go even higher but i don't understand it and never got more than squeaks beyond my falsetto
11:58:59 * Halcyon licks Ampera
11:59:10 <T3sl4> yeah she's using falsetto i'm sure, very airy sound
11:59:32 <Ampera> The highest I've ever gone with my falsetto is Frankie Valli. I haven't tried recently, lest the people I live with wonder which of our cats is dying, but I can match his falsetto in range at least
11:59:48 * Ampera hugs Halcyon with a sausage
11:59:58 <Ampera> smoked beer bratwurst, of course
12:00:03 <T3sl4> i should listen to like, begees sometimes, i can actually hit that as i recall, it's already in falsetto
12:00:10 * T3sl4 batters Ampera with a beer bottle
12:00:24 <Ampera> beegees is easy
12:00:35 <T3sl4> yeah if you're doing this, you should do that no problem
12:00:49 <Ampera> My main issue isn't range, it's fine control and tone
12:01:04 <Ampera> I'm getting better at control and hitting notes (I think), but it's also very situational
12:01:05 <T3sl4> just takes practice :)
12:01:13 <Ampera> sometimes my voice can go right up there, sometimes I can barely do anything
12:01:29 <T3sl4> and endurance, since i practice so little my range tanks after a few songs
12:01:38 <T3sl4> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_siJRgDlddY
12:01:39 <EEVBot> [Title] - Youtube: Nutshell
12:01:44 <T3sl4> you should like this
12:01:45 <Ampera> I push my voice hard, so my endurance can be taxed.
12:01:56 <Ampera> listening
12:02:11 <Ampera> For me it's not as much endurance, more that the longer I sing, the more my voice changes and fluctuates
12:02:29 <Ampera> One of my favorite songs to practice with was Supertramp's Goodbye Stranger
12:03:21 <Halcyon> Mmmm bratwurst
12:03:22 <Ampera> https://youtube.com/watch?v=m_npTC0Rvgg&list=OLAK5uy_lsvdSQOVibXSfKJfjfO6xJCjPNrf6JQlM
12:03:22 <EEVBot> [Title] - Youtube: Space Song
12:03:22 <Halcyon> With mustard?
12:03:25 <Ampera> This is another one of my favorites
12:03:28 <Ampera> Halcyon, whole grain, of course
12:03:33 <Halcyon> Of course
12:03:51 <Halcyon> Alternatively, finnish Sinappi
12:03:53 <Ampera> When I get my truck I'll take a trip down to the german butcher's and get some of their real bratwurst
12:04:30 <Ampera> T3sl4, It's alright. With me and music I sometimes love a song on the first listen, and sometimes it takes a few listens for me to love it.
12:05:10 <T3sl4> not an instant hit then?
12:05:26 <Ampera> No I can't say it is.
12:05:33 <T3sl4> AIC has such lovely harmony, one of the gems of grunge
12:13:15 * T3sl4 swats at Ampera with a block of bleu cheese
12:13:46 * Ampera places some CAT6 on it
12:13:50 <Ampera> now you have cord on bleu
12:14:14 <T3sl4> :)
12:14:36 <Halcyon> Fuck you and your dad jokes :P
12:14:45 <Ampera> no u
12:15:14 <Halcyon> OK then :P
12:15:27 * T3sl4 entices steve30 with the chicken not-kiev
12:17:17 <T3sl4> sirens, oh boy, someone did something bad outside
12:18:38 <Halcyon> It could be the firies/ambos?
12:18:50 <T3sl4> is that short for fire fairies?
12:18:55 <Halcyon> Sure :P
12:19:11 * T3sl4 ponders this
12:19:32 <T3sl4> but yeah one or more was probably coming from the hospital down the street
12:20:13 <Ampera> maybe someone slipped, fell, and beat the shit out of someone
12:22:17 <T3sl4> and sparked a fire
12:22:39 <Halcyon> I find it strange that your fire brigade is also your ambulance/paramedics.
12:24:23 <T3sl4> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ they have paramedic training at least
12:24:44 <T3sl4> but it's even stranger that we get charged a literal arm and a leg for ambulance rides, or anything else health related
12:24:48 <T3sl4> so, par for the course
12:25:07 <Halcyon> Our fire brigade put out fires, deal with hazmat or cut people out of cars
12:25:21 <Halcyon> They don't attend medical emergencies
12:26:36 <T3sl4> also, a firework nearby
12:26:45 <T3sl4> so, probably just the latter thing
12:27:08 <T3sl4> it's only june, but shrug
12:32:06 <Halcyon> What are the fireworks for?
12:32:59 <T3sl4> absolutely nothing say it again
12:33:04 <T3sl4> wait
12:33:30 <Halcyon> I just put a big huntsman spider outside
12:33:34 <Halcyon> He was trapped inside
12:33:54 <Halcyon> Legspan was probably about 10 cm
12:33:55 <Ampera> Firefighters are not the main paramedic service, we have actual ambulances with paramedics in them
12:34:05 <Halcyon> Oh right
12:34:07 <T3sl4> aw, poor guy
12:34:11 <T3sl4> or girl more likely
12:34:13 <Ampera> the point is that firefighters (and often even police officers) have paramedic training, so they can also respond to medical emergencies
12:34:31 <Ampera> since, usually when something is on fire, someone is also on fire, or smoked out
12:34:38 <electrohead> NO YOURE A TOWEL
12:34:39 <Halcyon> Yeh sure, we get medical training as well, but we aren't the first combat agency to anything medical
12:34:41 <electrohead> I mean
12:34:43 <Halcyon> Unless it's a self-harm job
12:34:43 <electrohead> hey
12:35:00 <Ampera> sometimes areas only have a fire department, them even often being community centers, so in those cases, they have to play double duty
12:35:00 <Halcyon> Hey electrohead
12:35:05 * T3sl4 sticks a sparkler up electrohead
12:35:09 * electrohead ignites
12:35:13 <electrohead> lol, hey guys :P
12:35:13 <Halcyon> Heheh
12:35:21 <Halcyon> You two are weird
12:35:37 <T3sl4> cool story, i once made my own sparklers, using potassium chlorate and charcoal as fuel, and coarse magnalium as the sparks
12:35:43 <electrohead> oooo
12:35:46 <T3sl4> it was... intensely incendiary
12:35:46 <electrohead> how'd it turn out?
12:35:46 <Halcyon> How did they go?
12:35:48 <Halcyon> Hahah
12:35:52 <electrohead> Halcyon: you're weird as well :P
12:35:55 <electrohead> but in the good way
12:36:07 <Halcyon> Did you have your explosion containment canister ?
12:36:09 <T3sl4> bright white sparks falling to the ground, if you got in their way they'd likely burrow into your flesh :P
12:36:23 <Halcyon> Sorry, pie dish
12:36:32 <T3sl4> nah, i just did it over the sidewalk
12:36:45 <Halcyon> You 'Mericans and your words
12:36:46 <Halcyon> :P
12:37:07 <T3sl4> the civilian concrete strip between houses and streets :P
12:37:15 <Halcyon> I know, I just find it amusing.
12:37:19 <Halcyon> We call it a "footpath"
12:37:20 <T3sl4> on a separate occasion, i lit off a barium nitrate magnalium blend, which burned so fucking hot it actually melted a green spot on the sidewalk :D
12:37:40 <T3sl4> i think i titled the youtube video "alien abduction"
12:38:19 <electrohead> did you dance around it?
12:38:24 <Halcyon> Oh T3sl4, it's confirmed, I'm going turn the leftover beef and stout stew into pies tonight for dinner
12:38:28 <Halcyon> They are going to turn out awesome
12:38:40 <DHess_US> magnalium?
12:39:14 <T3sl4> 50/50 aluminum magnesium alloy, intermetallic that's easy to grind
12:39:35 <DHess_US> I became an expert at making maroons.
12:39:35 * Ampera grinds on T3sl4
12:39:39 <T3sl4> owo
12:39:43 * Halcyon videotapes
12:39:53 <T3sl4> ah yep here it is, it didn't even degrade that badly over the years with yt reencodes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed1k4RLlMOQ
12:39:54 * electrohead archives
12:39:54 <EEVBot> [Title] - Youtube: Alien Abduction
12:40:07 <DHess_US> You know how maroons don't scale up? Well, I found that they scale fine to 8 cubic inches.
12:40:13 <T3sl4> DHess_US: what a maroon
12:40:22 <Halcyon> Gees. Haha left a few scorch marks on the sidewalk there
12:40:43 <DHess_US> maroon is a type of firecracker. It uses a cardboard form wrapped with string and glue.
12:41:00 <Halcyon> Yes, that was rather ferocious
12:41:04 <DHess_US> You know the big mortar shells which go bang? Those use maroons.
12:41:33 * Halcyon checks out the rest of T3sl4's videos
12:41:41 <Halcyon> You have a lovely voice
12:41:50 <T3sl4> i seem to recall having more videos than that, maybe i removed them
12:41:53 <T3sl4> or maybe they did idk
12:42:08 <DHess_US> If you build a maroon with wire instead of string, then it becomes a grenade.
12:42:10 <T3sl4> for those about to pyrotech, we salute you
12:42:48 <Halcyon> Do I sense a little Canadian accent in there?
12:43:01 <T3sl4> i doubt it? just south wisconsin
12:43:10 <T3sl4> not even in da yoopers ya der hey
12:43:25 <T3sl4> you get more of that around mid state, or the UP or minnesota
12:43:33 <Halcyon> That's close enough to Canadia
12:43:43 <T3sl4> i mean, globally speaking, yes :P
12:44:07 <T3sl4> oh btw, the "abduction" one seems to fade or pulsate a bit, because the mix has a dynamic to it. if it were packed into a tube, it would whistle at the resonant frequency of the container
12:44:15 <Halcyon> You're quite well spoken, it's a lot less grating than other American accents I've heard
12:44:18 <T3sl4> that's what propels whistle rockets
12:44:24 <T3sl4> thanks :P
12:44:42 <DHess_US> Whistle rockets use either picric or gallic acid.
12:44:49 <Halcyon> It's just the way you said the word "about" was a mix between USA and Canada to my ears
12:44:50 <T3sl4> yeah, that works better
12:45:04 <T3sl4> main problem is i have zero production values, zero scripting or rehersal, and almost zero videos, considering how old the acct is :P
12:45:22 <Halcyon> Oh who cares? Do you think Dave has strayed far from zero production values.
12:45:33 <DHess_US> They used to all use picric acid, but picric acid by itself is an explosive. Countries use picric acid to fill bombs when they run out of TNT.
12:45:39 <Halcyon> Years ago I offered to professionally record and edit his videos for him and he had nil interest
12:45:40 <T3sl4> i mean, he has more cameras and actually edits his videos
12:45:48 <T3sl4> most of those were straight off the canon's CF card ;)
12:46:01 <Halcyon> Well, Clive just uses his phone
12:46:04 <Halcyon> It works well
12:46:22 <T3sl4> my last few vids are phone based, phones are pretty good these days
12:46:31 <T3sl4> certainly higher res than the 480p my canon did
12:46:40 <T3sl4> that thing was pretty great for 2003 tho
12:46:48 <Halcyon> It's amazing the kind of quality and resolution they can pack into such a tiny camera these days
12:47:19 <T3sl4> i inherited a galaxy s7, its camera is pretty good, but its fisheye correction is... a bit strange
12:47:28 <Halcyon> It's actually kind of scary. We use similar camera modules at work for surveillance type work. You would never spot them, especially at a distance.
12:47:36 <T3sl4> and like all modern cameras it seems, it has more pixels than optical resolution, and it tries to fill in the gaps, badly
12:47:47 <T3sl4> you get that up-close painted look that JPEG does nothing to improve
12:48:03 <T3sl4> yeah spy cams are HD easily
12:48:19 <T3sl4> except all the police and site footage that's still recorded to VHS apparently
12:48:30 <Halcyon> Even some of the lockpick cameras that are small enough to fit into a doorlock, they are 720P at least
12:48:36 <Halcyon> Hahahah
12:48:57 <Halcyon> When I first started, all the cells and custody areas used timelapse VHS
12:49:02 <Halcyon> It was horrendous
12:49:12 <Halcyon> Thankfully now it's all Axis IP cameras
12:55:56 <electrohead> T3sl4: your voice is sexier than my voice
12:56:04 * electrohead throws things
12:56:11 <T3sl4> i'm guessing that doesn't say much
12:56:11 <Halcyon> You're still sexy electrohead
12:57:25 * T3sl4 admires electrohead's stamp
12:58:23 <DHess_US> Lol, reading diode datasheet and it features "high forward voltage drop" That is a feature?
12:58:40 <DHess_US> https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/80/UF3001-G_Thru._UF3008-G_RevA-1481682.pdf
12:58:50 <electrohead> Halcyon: awe thanks, lol
12:59:05 <T3sl4> lovely typo
12:59:11 <electrohead> heh
12:59:22 <T3sl4> it's about as meaningful as anything else they put in the front matter, tbf
12:59:43 <DHess_US> "Comchip Technology" - Chinese company?
13:00:10 <electrohead> probably, lol
13:00:30 <T3sl4> far as i know
13:00:35 <electrohead> oh, so I finally got around to taking the casio te-2400 register apart, the old one that died from the beer store
13:00:43 <electrohead> I need to show you guys something
13:01:11 <T3sl4> taipei, not so bad
13:01:57 * Halcyon sits on electrohead all romantic-like
13:02:00 <Halcyon> *lap
13:02:05 Quit: EEVBot ([email protected]) Ping timeout: 121 seconds
13:02:08 <Halcyon> Dammit, fucked that up
13:02:10 <T3sl4> romantic-lap?
13:02:20 <Halcyon> His lap
13:02:22 <Halcyon> Don't worry
13:02:45 <electrohead> lol
13:02:50 <T3sl4> are you sure you haven't had a wine bottle yet? :P
13:03:02 <electrohead> whose lap is more romantic, mine or T3sl4's? lol
13:03:06 <T3sl4> because on that note, i finished the bottle of raspberry wine i picked up lately
13:03:37 <Halcyon> I've tapped into a glass or two :P
13:03:44 <electrohead> "a glass or two"
13:03:45 <Halcyon> Yours electrohead
13:03:47 <electrohead> lol
13:03:52 <T3sl4> :(
13:03:52 <electrohead> awe, shucks
13:03:59 <Halcyon> You're like the forbidden fruit
13:04:08 <Halcyon> Where as I reckon liquor up T3sl4 and he's anyones
13:04:09 * electrohead sits on T3sl4's lap to give him some romantics
13:04:21 <electrohead> so, here y'all go - https://0xznc01.pw:2600/public/IMG_20210605_134854.jpg
13:04:24 <electrohead> >.<
13:04:32 <T3sl4> we're sitting stamp to stamp :3
13:04:37 <Halcyon> What am I looking at?
13:04:45 <Halcyon> A fuse link?
13:04:47 <T3sl4> yeah, that's a good one
13:05:02 <electrohead> I really don't know why someone soldered that wire, there
13:05:21 <T3sl4> this is a tape machine? not a computer? thefuck does it need all that logic and bus for
13:05:30 <electrohead> it's a register
13:05:48 <electrohead> https://cashregisterstore.com/te2400.html
13:06:02 <T3sl4> wait where did i get tape from, wtf
13:06:19 * T3sl4 blames Halcyon
13:06:26 <electrohead> lol
13:06:30 <Halcyon> Ohhh is this your old register?
13:06:34 <electrohead> yeah mate
13:06:42 <electrohead> it's in pieces right now, back in my lab
13:06:44 <electrohead> :D
13:06:50 <Halcyon> Yeh why the fuck would anyone do that?!
13:07:03 <electrohead> it's completely fucked
13:07:13 <electrohead> I still have yet to look at the power supply
13:07:20 <electrohead> actually, should go do that now
13:07:30 <Halcyon> Can you live stream on Discord?
13:07:58 <electrohead> eh, I don't have anything set up right now to live stream
13:08:23 <Halcyon> I was going to say, install Discord on your phone, but you don't use Google servicew
13:08:26 <Halcyon> *services
13:08:31 <electrohead> is that possible?
13:08:42 <Halcyon> What do you mean? Of course it's possible
13:10:20 <electrohead> lol, well, I've already tried certain apps in the past, and they wouldn't run because of the lack of google services

13:10:41 <electrohead> shhh, he's here
13:10:51 <T3sl4> what do you run? lineage supports play store
13:10:55 <T3sl4> or, vice versa as the case may be
13:10:56 <alfbaz> lol
13:11:03 <Halcyon> Heya alfbaz, how's the shed going?
13:11:27 <alfbaz> the shed's at a stand still
13:11:30 * T3sl4 noogies alfbaz
13:11:39 <Halcyon> Aw why?
13:12:03 <electrohead> I don't have anything google installed on my phone, T3sl4
13:12:04 <alfbaz> This plastering has got the better of me
13:12:31 <T3sl4> can maybe still get the package and sideload it idk
13:12:34 <Halcyon> alfbaz, invite some people over to get plastered and we'll finish it off :P
13:12:54 <alfbaz> plus lots of night overtime shifts
13:13:12 <electrohead> I'm only seeing it on the play store
13:13:21 <alfbaz> ooh I like that idea Halcyon
13:13:22 <electrohead> and I don't trust the third party apk download sites
13:13:44 <Halcyon> I'd come down south, it's been a while since I was in Wollongong
13:13:47 <T3sl4> they don't have a direct download?
13:13:56 <Halcyon> electrohead, want me to fetch it for you?
13:14:34 <electrohead> T3sl4: doesn't look like it :/
13:14:38 <electrohead> Halcyon: that's up to you, lol
13:15:18 <Halcyon> Will you actually use it if I do
13:15:40 <electrohead> if it works, yes
13:15:42 <electrohead> lol
13:15:49 <Halcyon> OK... let me work out how...
13:16:15 <alfbaz> Halcyon, us southerners don't mind you northerners so long as you're not north of that border way up there :P
13:16:55 <electrohead> adb shell pm list packages
13:16:58 <electrohead> adb shell pm path com.example.etc
13:17:05 <electrohead> and then - adb pull <file>
13:17:39 <Halcyon> Gah, I don't have adb installed
13:17:40 <Halcyon> Standby
13:17:48 <electrohead> if it's too much, it's all good
13:17:49 <alfbaz> what pkg uze talkin about
13:17:55 <Halcyon> Discord
13:18:23 <alfbaz> what, that's a thing now?
13:18:31 <Halcyon> What do you mean?
13:18:33 <T3sl4> that's been a thing for a while
13:18:51 <alfbaz> I thought cool kids didn't like it
13:19:03 <electrohead> lol
13:19:26 <T3sl4> wat? it's the only thing the cool kids use!
13:19:32 <Halcyon> electrohead was going to pull apart a power supply and I asked him to live stream it, and Discord was the only way I knew how easily?
13:19:38 <Halcyon> Unless you can think of something else?
13:19:45 <alfbaz> I'm so not cool
13:20:42 <alfbaz> I guess everyone could get on signal
13:20:47 <Halcyon> electrohead, how do I upgrade the pacman repo thingo without updating the actual software?
13:21:03 <Halcyon> I fear if I do pacman -Syyu it's going to fuck my NVIDIA drivers again
13:21:24 <electrohead> I only have a raspberry pi 3 B+ connected to the monitor in the lab, and I'm afraid to update that right now, as everthing would break, guh
13:21:54 <electrohead> Halcyon: did we put the graphic drivers and such in the IgnorePackage directive, in the pacman.conf file?
13:22:00 <Halcyon> *shrug*
13:22:03 <Halcyon> I forget
13:22:50 <electrohead> view the /etc/pacman.conf file, and look
13:23:09 <electrohead> IgnorePkg is the name, sorry
13:23:09 <Halcyon> Doesn't look like it
13:23:30 <Halcyon> Yeh it's commented out and there is nothing in there
13:23:47 <electrohead> what you could do is a partial update, where the database gets updated; normally this is frowned upon, but if you want, you could do so
13:23:55 <electrohead> sudo pacman -Sy
13:23:55 <Halcyon> But wasn't there some kind of incompatibility with the driver and the latest Linux kernel?
13:24:03 <electrohead> I think so
13:24:06 <Halcyon> Yeh
13:24:27 <electrohead> but, after that pacman command, you could then install adb
13:24:40 <Halcyon> Yep that worked
13:25:09 <Halcyon> adb: error while loading shared libraries: libprotobuf.so.27: cannot open shared object file: No such file or director
13:25:11 <Halcyon> FFS
13:25:43 <electrohead> sudo pacman -S protobuf
13:25:57 <electrohead> before you do that, actually
13:26:01 <electrohead> be careful
13:26:05 <Halcyon> error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
13:26:05 <Halcyon> :: installing protobuf (3.16.0-1) breaks dependency 'protobuf=3.15.6' required by python-protobuf
13:26:38 <electrohead> yeah, you'd have to update everything but your kernel and graphics drivers
13:26:47 <Halcyon> Fuck that
13:27:01 <Halcyon> Can't you do Youtube live or something?
13:27:25 <electrohead> lol, I have nothing set up to stream, at *all*
13:27:39 <Halcyon> Well stream to me bitch, on Signal
13:27:48 <electrohead> I do have a canon rebel T6
13:28:00 <Halcyon> How would that help?
13:29:12 <alfbaz> He could T6 the A9 through the X11 via flapnoid 3.11
13:29:30 <electrohead> lmfao
13:29:39 <alfbaz> :P
13:29:53 <electrohead> would have to get the video feed from the DSLR to a computer in the back room
13:30:12 <electrohead> can't use the r.pi, but I do have three headless servers back there, two aren't used much currently
13:30:21 <electrohead> thanks, you gave me another project to work on
13:31:06 <T3sl4> you say that, alfbaz, but i have no fucking clue if that's actually a thing or not
13:31:36 * alfbaz tickles T3sl4's scrotum :P
13:31:45 * steve30 returns wearing lycra shorts
13:31:50 <T3sl4> mmm, taint'd love
13:32:00 <alfbaz> lol
13:32:17 * T3sl4 hugs steve30
13:32:28 <alfbaz> steve30, the lycra aint gonna help
13:33:09 <steve30> well, Halcyon always seems to like it
13:33:21 <alfbaz> no doubt :P
13:34:18 <Nothing\> i was just thinking about how kids think weird things
13:34:55 <Nothing\> like when I was a kid, I thought The Simpsons were actually a species of yellow skinned hominid creatures who were all called simpsons
13:35:04 <Nothing\> i musta been 6 or 7
13:35:26 <Nothing\> i didn't realize it was a surname. Or THEIR surname.
13:35:53 <T3sl4> i mean, they are pretty alien
13:35:53 <steve30> i never watch the simpsons when i was little. I was aware of them, but i didn't really know what it was about
13:36:09 <Nothing\> i wonder why kids' brains are so weird. It has to come down to more than mere lack of experience.
13:36:48 <Nothing\> T3sl4, exactly. they were just so freakish looking. I genuinely didn't realize they were humans until I watched it for a couple of years.
13:36:52 <T3sl4> eh, one or another pattern of thought is as likely as another to form
13:37:09 <T3sl4> it takes reinforcement over time to develop correct thought patterns
13:37:34 <Nothing\> i loved the simpsons, I started watching I think around 6 or 7 but it coulda been sooner for all I know.
13:37:57 <steve30> i didn't start watching the simpsons till 2013
13:38:19 <T3sl4> i'm sorry to hear that
13:38:58 <Nothing\> I just know between the ages of 5 and 15 during 1990 to 2000 I watched probably every episode of the first 7 or 8 seasons 20-50 times a piece on syndication since it was on syndication pretty much from when I got home from school until either bed time or the 8pm night time line-up
13:39:54 <Nothing\> it'd be on at 3:30, 4:00, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, sometimes 6:30, 7:00 and sometimes 7:30
13:40:09 <T3sl4> i watched it a pretty good amout, yeah
13:40:12 <steve30> its on at 6pm daily here
13:40:12 <Nothing\> so that was basically all i watched after school for almost 10 years
13:40:44 <Nothing\> yeah i was watching like 3-4 episodes every week day
13:41:00 <Nothing\> was never on syndication during the weekend for some reason thoug.
13:41:17 <steve30> Halcyon, https://i.redd.it/1r5qd1bf1p271.png
13:41:44 <Nothing\> I MIGHT catch it on FOX once in a blue moon on a saturday. But aside from the new episodes Sunday nights, it was rare to come by The Simpsons on the weekends
13:42:00 <T3sl4> gotta love capitalism
13:42:12 <steve30> it tends to be on on weekends here
13:43:19 <Nothing\> i wonder how many different shows filled that 8-10pm Sunday night slot with The Simpsons since it started airing on sunday evenings, which I'm not sure when that was
13:43:25 <Nothing\> but just think of them all
13:43:49 <Nothing\> and that was like, THE time slot on FOX
13:44:50 <Halcyon> Sorry I'm back
13:45:11 <Nothing\> no need for apologies
13:45:19 * Halcyon licks electrohead
13:45:31 <electrohead> lol.. I was literally about to post a URL
13:45:33 <electrohead> https://github.com/pikvm/ustreamer
13:45:39 <electrohead> I've come across this before in the past
13:46:19 <electrohead> so, I found a decent solution to get a video feed streamed
13:46:22 <Halcyon> \o/
13:46:41 <electrohead> I just need a decent way to mount my DSLR camera somewhere, in the back
13:46:51 <Halcyon> You don't have a tripod?
13:46:58 <Halcyon> Apart from yourself of course
13:47:40 * alfbaz throughs a leg over
13:47:48 <Halcyon> Hehe
13:48:02 <alfbaz> throws :P
13:48:30 <alfbaz> I have an excuse, I just woke up
13:48:46 * Halcyon coffees alfbaz
13:49:04 * alfbaz gets up to make one
13:50:40 <alfbaz> you wrote that and my brain literally went, Yeah!
13:51:01 <electrohead> I do, and have a few adapters, but don't have the correct adapter for how I want to mount it
13:51:02 <Halcyon> Hehehe, I bought more beans myself today
13:51:07 <electrohead> could always rig something up, though
13:51:08 <electrohead> that said
13:51:09 <T3sl4> think the only time i've streamed, i managed to use VLC to do it
13:51:10 <electrohead> https://www.ebay.com/itm/402357649262?hash=item5dae627f6e:g:iREAAOSwspZfMbAz
13:51:39 <Halcyon> electrohead, can we try a video call on Signal desktop just for shits and giggles?
13:51:43 <electrohead> I've heard a lot about those, and this following page was the inpiration to buy two of them - https://mtlynch.io/tinypilot/
13:52:24 <electrohead> the only 'computer' that has a monitor in the back room, is the r.pi on my table
13:52:32 <electrohead> the other servers/computers are headless
13:52:36 <Halcyon> Heh
13:52:41 <Halcyon> I meant on your phone
13:52:51 <electrohead> ahh, yeah I guess
13:52:54 <electrohead> lol
13:53:24 <alfbaz> electroheadless

13:55:36 <Nothing> that's transport tycoon deluxe

13:58:40 <alfbaz> hey, anybody here have an intel fpga account? I downloaded the worng vers of quartus and I'm trying to log on again to d/l the correct version but pressing "Sign In" does nothing. It's not the first time their sites gone wierd on me
13:59:31 <T3sl4> try clearing your site cookies/cache?
13:59:50 <alfbaz> yeah tried that and different browers
13:59:55 <alfbaz> brwosers

14:02:11 <alfbaz> know FFS I'm having a bad day
14:02:57 Nick: Nothing is now known as Nothing\
14:03:02 <Nothing\> there we are
14:03:45 <Nothing\> you know, i wouldn't mind trying my hand at programming an FPGA
14:03:54 <T3sl4> it's okay, i'm making fun of the typo not you :P
14:04:05 <Halcyon> I saw electrohead's crotch on video
14:04:06 <Halcyon> :P
14:04:10 <Halcyon> Jealous ? :P
14:04:11 <T3sl4> you're welcome to laugh with it or take it personally, i can't help that i guess :P
14:04:12 <alfbaz> I think today would be a bad day to do any vhdl :P
14:04:21 <Nothing\> but i probably shouldn't buy an fpga devboard right after this other devboard i just got
14:04:41 <Nothing\> but yeah some sort of vhdl emulator or ide or something ya know
14:04:48 <Nothing\> i'd love to play with something like that
14:05:04 <Nothing\> where you can program a virtual fpga
14:05:42 <alfbaz> T3sl4, LOL I've learnt not to take myself, or much else too seriously these days
14:06:06 <T3sl4> :)
14:06:09 <Nothing\> actually there's a game i found a while back called MHRD where you use a hardware description language to solve various puzzles based on boolean logic
14:06:15 <Nothing\> like make an X gate
14:06:19 <Nothing\> or make an ALU
14:06:35 <Nothing\> make an ALU with an 8 bit bus
14:06:36 <Nothing\> etc
14:06:55 <Nothing\> it's pretty fun, and doesn't cost too much on steam, as i recall
14:07:11 <Nothing\> lol i think i have like 20 different programming games on steam
14:08:04 <Nothing\> remember back in the day when they had "hacking" games where the hacking was more like a minigame reminiscent of a hacking GUI you'd see in a movie
14:08:05 <Halcyon> Why you having a bad day alfbaz ?
14:08:18 <alfbaz> now that's something, putting the word fun and hdl in the same sentence
14:08:46 <Nothing\> alfbaz, i genuinely think learning VHDL would be fun
14:09:00 <Nothing\> i've never tried my hand at an HDL
14:09:04 <alfbaz> Halcyon on my last nightshift shift tonight and only getting 3 to 4 hours sleep
14:09:31 <alfbaz> ... and shit's breaking everywhere at work
14:09:37 <Halcyon> Ah
14:09:57 <alfbaz> I leave the best of me at work, which is a shame
14:10:10 <Nothing\> actually some sort of FPGA sim/emulator would be nice to play with
14:10:44 <Nothing\> but I guess you could probably get a dev board for a relatively decent price these days, huh
14:10:59 <Nothing\> like, $80-$100 for an entry level board?
14:11:06 <Nothing\> i'm just guessing
14:11:38 <alfbaz> Nothing\, good, go and see if you can d/l quatus II 13.1 web edition, let me know how you go :P
14:11:59 <Nothing\> the company that sells my 65C816 SBC also sells some FPGA SBCs or devboards or something. I'm not exactly sure what they are.
14:12:04 <Nothing\> But I should look into it.
14:12:11 <Nothing\> quatus you say
14:12:25 <Nothing\> well, atm i'm in no state to be learning anything
14:12:38 <Nothing\> and likely won't be for the next couple of days.
14:12:44 <alfbaz> quartus, but I joke. I'm having a hard time downloading it
14:12:49 <Nothing\> but we'll see what happens
14:12:55 <Nothing\> ah lol
14:13:41 <alfbaz> I dug up an old altium nanoboard 3000 with an altera chip on it
14:13:57 <alfbaz> and wanna play with it
14:14:00 <Nothing\> nice
14:14:05 <Nothing\> have at it, dude
14:14:39 <alfbaz> I actually picked it up off of somebody on the forum
14:14:41 <Nothing\> there's nothing i hate worse than finding something I wanna play with then watching as it collects dust on my desk for month after month after month
14:15:23 <alfbaz> I forgot I had it until the missus asked If I should throw it away :O
14:15:50 <Nothing\> i have a few logic chips i got that i did that with. I usually like to make a demo circuit with the chips before i file them away just to make sure they work and to learn a bit about how they work and such.
14:16:14 <Nothing\> but sometimes i just can't be bothered and they just end up sitting on my desk, collecting dust.
14:16:38 * Halcyon hugs alfbaz
14:16:40 <Nothing\> lol alfbaz
14:17:01 <alfbaz> I cut my teeth with xilinx so I'm a little pissed this board is altera
14:17:05 <Nothing\> you ever try getting your wife interented in electronics?
14:17:42 <Nothing\> or at least giving her the jist of how they work
14:18:05 <alfbaz> she is surprisingly tolerant of my long winded explanations when she asks me what I'm doing
14:18:13 <Nothing\> my exwife was never very willing to learn about anything I experimented with
14:18:27 <Nothing\> alfbaz, that's awesome man.
14:18:52 <Nothing\> if there's one thing that makes me feel low, it's when i'm giving a long-winded explanation to somebody who doesn't care about it
14:19:25 <alfbaz> I asked her if she was willing to let me teach her coding and she said yes! but that was 2 years ago :c

14:20:17 <Nothing\> i love science and am absolutely passionate about it and spreading it. So if I get a chance to, I'll spread interesting science facts to everyone, young and old. But nothing makes me feel worse than knowing somebody I'm explaining something to just doesn't care.
14:20:38 <Nothing\> i know it sounds silly, but i guess it almost feels like a personal insult of sorts. But not exactly.
14:20:42 <alfbaz> lol, that's everyon I know
14:20:57 <Nothing\> alfbaz, teach her QB64
14:21:08 <Nothing\> it's a 64 bit port of QBasic
14:21:31 <alfbaz> Oh yeah, I nearly forgot all about basic
14:21:34 <Nothing\> lots of extra stuff added for modernmachines
14:21:46 <Nothing\> alfbaz, ah it's just like riding a bike lol

14:22:20 <Nothing\> the knowledge is still there. You just need something to jar it loose.
14:22:22 <Lemon> this is so early
14:22:31 <Nothing\> Have you ever considered getting kicked in the head by a cow?
14:23:21 <alfbaz> My brother and I wrote a whole game using basic on a C64 back in the day... can't find the code for it anywhere, probably on a floppy disk somewhere
14:23:33 <Lemon> heh a fathers friend almost died due to a cow
14:23:42 <Lemon> it was a young one
14:23:43 <Nothing\> seriously though, I'm sure once you start getting into it, it'll all come back to you. The only thing you have to worry about is the syntax, since it seemed to be different for every version of basic on the market.
14:23:50 <alfbaz> holy cow man
14:24:36 <Nothing\> alfbaz, heh i tried coding on a c64 once, too. But once I got to line 40, I wasn't sure what to do. So my programs were always limited to 40 lines or less lol
14:24:45 <Halcyon> T3sl4, love it
14:24:51 <Nothing\> cuz i had nobody to help teach me or anything
14:25:11 <Nothing\> was too young to read or care about reading the manual
14:25:32 <alfbaz> Nothing\, same here. Back then there was no internet for the masses so it was books
14:25:39 <Halcyon> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W0Pa6805lY
14:26:06 <Nothing\> it's a shame i didn't get any subscriptions to those magazines that had BASIC programs in them you could type into your computer from the magazine. You llearn a good bit of a language that way.
14:26:28 <T3sl4> oh that was cool, the YT page crashed just as he brought up the power cord
14:27:08 <T3sl4> Halcyon: also, i know someone who, growing up, thought that that would...work
14:27:09 <Nothing\> alfbaz, i was fortunate that i was born in 85, so the internet was JUST starting to come into popularity as I was getting old enough to explore computers more in depth
14:27:17 <T3sl4> suspect he'll get a kick out of that ;)
14:27:35 <Nothing\> but again, my learning sources for computers were almost non-exisant and i had no clue how to use the internet
14:28:46 <alfbaz> most of my digital source came on floppies taped to the front of popular magazines
14:29:26 <Halcyon> T3sl4, tell me he grew up?
14:29:39 <Nothing\> i had a brother who was 6 years my elder, so he got a whole... whatever you call those disk holders full of floppies with c64 games on them.
14:29:51 <T3sl4> Halcyon: yes, it was a long time ago :P
14:29:55 <Halcyon> :P
14:29:56 <Nothing\> you know, the ones you put floppies in and had a lock and key to it
14:30:08 <Nothing\> to store them
14:30:28 <alfbaz> Yeah I had a heap of those containers
14:30:36 <T3sl4> 5-1/4" floppies
14:30:39 <T3sl4> floppy floppies
14:30:42 <T3sl4> not save icons
14:30:54 <Halcyon> Who 3D printed the save icon?
14:30:55 <Halcyon> :P
14:31:37 <Nothing\> nowadays you can just back up all of your floppies to a thumb drive and run them from a virtual drive
14:31:55 <Nothing\> seemingly regardless of platform
14:32:13 <steve30> On the subject of 3d printed stuff, there were some 3d printed VLCs in the road earlier
14:32:14 <alfbaz> 5-1/4 was it for the c64 wasnt until I upgraded to an amiga that I got hard floppies
14:32:22 <alfbaz> :P
14:32:57 * steve30 pets his 40 track single sided 5.25" drive
14:33:02 <Nothing\> yup, 5.25 on c64
14:33:08 <alfbaz> VLC?
14:33:24 <Nothing\> i could never rememember if it was 5.5in or 3.5in or 3.25in or 5.25in
14:33:57 <alfbaz> Nothing\ big and small was how I remebered them :P
14:34:21 <Nothing\> alfbaz, imagine if you came across an 8in floppy
14:34:23 <Nothing\> lol
14:34:26 <Nothing\> "super"
14:34:41 <steve30> my old college teacher said he has some 8" floppy stuff
14:35:00 <Nothing\> i've never seen an 8in drive or disk
14:35:05 <Nothing\> lol i almost typed dinks
14:35:15 <alfbaz> lol, I remeber john holmes had an 8" floppy
14:35:20 <Halcyon> I have both drive and disks at work Nothing\
14:35:41 <Nothing\> Halcyon, right on. For what pupose?
14:35:42 <T3sl4> eight inch dicksks
14:35:46 <steve30> Do criminals tend to use floppies much these days?
14:35:56 <Halcyon> Nothing\, nothing, it's in a display case
14:35:58 <Nothing\> T3sl4, 8 inch floppy dicks
14:36:03 <T3sl4> ^
14:36:29 <Nothing\> steve30, nah, they just download the car directly off the internet these days
14:36:42 <Nothing\> no need to copy that floppy
14:36:49 <T3sl4> Halcyon, morbid curiosity, has image quality gone up over time in your, erm, line of work? (resolution, sharpness, format)?
14:36:53 <steve30> I'm now reminded of the time someone was selling an "Intel floppy dick controller" on ebay
14:36:58 <Halcyon> T3sl4, yep.
14:37:04 <T3sl4> i'm guessing it tracks everyday cameras
14:37:04 <Nothing\> lol steve30
14:37:12 <Halcyon> So much so we can actually get fingerprints from digital images now
14:37:25 <T3sl4> makes sense
14:37:38 <Halcyon> And its been tested in court. It works well.
14:37:49 <Nothing\> lol when i poke my ankle it leaves an impression in my skin that stays for several minutes
14:37:55 <Nothing\> it's like poking memory foam
14:38:06 <T3sl4> Nothing\: almost the opposite of dermographia
14:38:27 <Nothing\> T3sl4, peripheral edema
14:38:38 <T3sl4> that would do
14:38:50 <Halcyon> T3sl4, we also have software that can "identify" cameras and images based on individual CCD/CMOS characteristics
14:38:51 <Nothing\> likely caused by beetus, exacerbated by sedentary lifestyle
14:39:07 <T3sl4> huh
14:39:12 <Nothing\> but i just had an hour long walk, so that should get them lymphoids pumpin'
14:39:35 <T3sl4> Nothing\: as i recall there's no lymph circulation by itself, it's pumped by muscles, so that would matter
14:39:48 <steve30> Halcyon, that sounds quite feasable. In fact I'm surprised no one on Youtube has complained about my DSLR's dead pixels :)
14:39:51 <T3sl4> keep the blood flowing too, don't want to lose a toe
14:39:53 <Nothing\> figures, after beating diabetes a few years ago, i wound up getting it again lol
14:40:02 <Nothing\> i got diagnosed again a few weeks ago
14:40:19 <Nothing\> T3sl4, is it really? huh
14:40:39 <Nothing\> yeah come to think of it, i'm not entirely familiar with the mechanics of lymph circulation
14:41:00 <Nothing\> but it doesn't seem nearly as strong as cardiovascular circulation
14:41:55 <Nothing\> like how lymphatic fluids build up if you leave an extremity in a low position for a prolonged period of time is in the case of people getting swollen legs from setting all day.
14:42:24 <Halcyon> My cardiovascular system is perhaps too strong, I've got high blood pressure
14:42:32 <Nothing\> or how it distributes more evenly throughout body tissue in astronauts so they get a more puffy appearance than under 1G
14:42:37 <Halcyon> Probably should look at that
14:43:11 <Nothing\> Halcyon, beta blockers would probably be prescribed. Which honestly as far as medications go, are super benign.
14:43:56 <Halcyon> Probably
14:44:17 <Halcyon> I should go see a doctor, it has been creeping up for years. I have a family history of it too
14:44:21 <Nothing\> i take one for my anxiety, propranolol and aside from an inhumanly low heart rate when i'm on it that dips below 45, i have no side effects.
14:44:31 <Nothing\> even from the low heart rate.
14:44:46 <steve30> I've used beta blockers for anxiety before.
14:44:59 <Nothing\> steve30, what was your experience?
14:45:26 <Nothing\> ime, it was effective at first, but quickly lost its effectiveness. Especially once clonazepam was prescribed.
14:45:28 <steve30> It kinda-sorta helped with the physical symptoms of anxiety
14:45:35 <Nothing\> yeah exactly
14:45:39 <Nothing\> it's hard to say really
14:45:49 <Nothing\> you have to not be thinking about it at the time
14:46:04 <Nothing\> which makes it difficult to gauge the efficacy
14:46:10 <Halcyon> I'd be in the pre-hypertensive category
14:46:17 <Nothing\> at least subjectively
14:46:47 <Nothing\> Halcyon, one thing you might want to bring up with your doctor is the possibility of taking psyllium fiber on a daily basis
14:46:58 <Nothing\> it does wonders to lower bad cholesterol
14:47:08 <Nothing\> not to mention, it keeps you regular
14:47:08 <Halcyon> My cholesterol levels are good
14:47:22 <Nothing\> ah, mine are shite
14:47:23 <Halcyon> My LDL levels are low
14:47:36 <T3sl4> just don't eat sandwiches of em ;)
14:47:48 <Halcyon> I eat a lot of eggs so my HDL is normal to high
14:48:27 <Halcyon> Plus food here (even takeaway) isn't generally laden with extreme amounts of bad fat
14:48:29 <steve30> i've pretty much given up on medical treatments. I started the process of stopping my anti-depressants 6 months ago, and haven't had one at all for about a month.
14:48:34 <Nothing\> one thing i try to do is if i eat food with visible grease on it, i'll blot the grease off with a napkin or tissue
14:48:42 <Halcyon> Even McDonalds here is pretty reasonable (I wouldn't eat it every day however)
14:48:43 <Nothing\> cuz you think about it, that grease is pure fat
14:49:06 <Nothing\> and every 14 grams of that grease you remove from your food is 1 hour less of exercise

14:49:45 <Kuschelpony> good morning you all
14:49:48 <steve30> i think i'll go to bed soon
14:49:53 <steve30> o/
14:49:58 <Nothing\> it takes half an hour of moderate level exercise to burn an ounce of fat according to these physics lectures i watched once.
14:50:09 * T3sl4 gives steve30 a coffere-scented duvet
14:50:17 <Nothing\> something like playing basketball or football
14:50:24 <Nothing\> (european football)
14:50:33 * electrohead waves at steve30
14:50:43 <T3sl4> i think of it this way, an ounce of grease is two ounces of carbs i don't have to eat :P
14:51:10 <Nothing\> there ya go
14:51:17 <T3sl4> not to an extreme of course, but it just means i eat less food when it's rich
14:51:36 <T3sl4> or i eat less often, but that i think is the real gotcha that many people fall to
14:51:38 <Nothing\> ugh i just remembered the video on LA Beast where he drank a gallon of canola oil
14:51:41 <Nothing\> ughh
14:52:06 <Nothing\> he was literally leaking from his anus for the next couple of days and ruined his shorts
14:52:12 <T3sl4> fatty diarrhea, nothx
14:52:19 <Nothing\> his ass just kept leaking canola oil uncontrollably
14:52:25 <Nothing\> lol yeah
14:52:29 <steve30> lol
14:52:38 <T3sl4> i wonder if that actually shocks cholesterol out of your body because it's being dragged out of you
14:52:45 <Nothing\> at least his body didn't absorb all of thta fat and those calories
14:53:07 <Nothing\> T3sl4, you think there's a sort of osmotic effect going on?
14:53:22 <Nothing\> i thought osmosis didn't apply to oils because they're not polar
14:53:35 <T3sl4> depends, i know the body is very efficient at recovering cholesterol (major component of bile)
14:53:45 <Nothing\> but then i always just assumed osmosis was down to partial charges
14:53:54 <Nothing\> in terms of the mechanism
14:53:58 <T3sl4> it's simply the inverse of washing something with soap, soap emulsifies fats making them suspend in water
14:54:21 <T3sl4> an excess of oil would suspend water and surfactants (bile) in it, and the rapid movement drains it away
14:54:43 <Nothing\> so then technically, one could wash their hands with vomit
14:54:44 <T3sl4> osmosis works for anything but isn't needed here i don't think
14:54:44 <Nothing\> lol
14:54:55 <Nothing\> ah, i didn't know that
14:54:55 <T3sl4> if you're having bilious vomit i guess
14:55:11 <Nothing\> love the term bilious
14:55:16 <Nothing\> very victorian
14:55:43 <Nothing\> though probably dates back many hundreds or thousands of years prior
14:55:59 <T3sl4> or eggs, like if i'm whisking eggs or pancakes, the bowl gets pretty darn clean on its own just from rinsing and wiping
14:56:34 <T3sl4> there's usually a bit of oil left though that needs a proper soaping, otherwise i suppose you could get away with putting it back in the cupboard
14:56:42 <Nothing\> cuz the lecithin forms an emulsion with any fats present
14:57:04 <T3sl4> ye
14:57:17 <Nothing\> emulsions are cool
14:58:26 <Nothing\> i've always liked the idea of micelles and self assembling structurse like phospholipid bilayers etc
14:58:41 <Nothing\> mycele? sp?
14:58:47 <T3sl4> they're kinda helpful
14:58:52 <T3sl4> micelle
14:59:01 <Nothing\> looks like michelle
14:59:17 <Nothing\> but yeah, i don't think we'd be in a very good way without them lol
15:00:09 <Nothing\> although, our bones don't have them. So it's not like you'd just fall into a pile of mush. You'd still have bones.
15:00:28 <Nothing\> and probably some other connective tissues
15:01:49 <T3sl4> well, you can wash away the cellular contents, you're left with ICM, and yes all that stuff
15:02:07 <T3sl4> i wonder how hollow bones are after that, marrow must not have much connective tissue in it
15:02:14 <T3sl4> or the ICM is really low density?
15:03:02 <Nothing\> it's weird to think that everything we are, who we are, all of our experiences, our memories, our perceptions, our entire life, self and your being as a whole is nothing more than some electrical signals sent by chemicals
15:03:28 <T3sl4> huh, i guess it's "extracellular" more commonly
15:03:42 <Nothing\> T3sl4, it would depend on the type of animal and where the bone came from
15:03:55 <T3sl4> well, it takes a lot of molecules to make a me, that can encode an awful lot of information
15:03:59 <Nothing\> like some have a lattice type structure
15:04:20 <T3sl4> i mean marrow in mammalian long bones
15:04:56 <Nothing\> i believe marrow itself is considered a connective tissue
15:05:20 <Nothing\> i know blood is considered a connective tissue, oddly enough. So I'd imagine marrow would fall into that category as well.
15:05:34 <Nothing\> being the progenitor of a connective tissue.
15:06:22 <Nothing\> i mean, my statement about marrow being a connective tissue is just speculation. So I'd encourage you to look deeper.
15:06:53 <T3sl4> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_marrow
15:06:54 <Nothing\> but i know with fairly high certainty that blood is a connective tissue
15:06:55 <EEVBot> [Title] - Bone marrow - Wikipedia
15:06:59 <Nothing\> which is weird
15:07:13 <T3sl4> oh, i guess it's mostly everywhere else, long bones yes but more in the spongy sites in other major bones
15:07:24 <Nothing\> it doesn't even seem like the word tissue would apply to blood
15:07:59 <Nothing\> huh
15:08:10 <Nothing\> man, you ever see a bone marrow transplant?
15:08:18 <Nothing\> that gives me the willies
15:08:34 <T3sl4> it doesn't sound pleasant
15:08:50 <Nothing\> I'm usually fine watching medical videos. But watching a guy get a spike stuck through his hip bone was just... ICK!
15:08:59 <Nothing\> it gives me the horribles
15:10:06 <Nothing\> and the only anesthetic he got was lidocaine where they'd advance the lidocaine needle until it his the bone, THEN start injecting.
15:10:25 <Nothing\> actually T3sl4 one thing you might find interesting is intra-asseous infusion
15:10:57 <T3sl4> wouldn't that be rectal
15:11:46 <Nothing\> in children, if they can't establish an IV line, they'll do intraosseous where they drill into the leg bone and stick a catheter in the leg bone just like in an IV
15:11:54 <Nothing\> T3sl4, nah that's just intrarectal
15:12:11 <Nothing\> osseous means bone. Like ossification
15:12:19 <T3sl4> check what you wrote :P
15:12:26 <Nothing\> hrm
15:12:41 <Nothing\> tata
15:12:43 <Nothing\> haha
15:12:49 <Nothing\> intra-asseous
15:12:55 <T3sl4> assification
15:12:59 <Nothing\> that's a great freudian slip if ever there was one
15:13:16 <Nothing\> hey
15:13:18 <Nothing\> T3sl4,
15:13:26 <Nothing\> what'd the urologist tell his patient?
15:13:33 <T3sl4> what?
15:13:37 <Nothing\> urine trouble
15:13:55 <T3sl4> what did the doctor say to the man whose head got stuck up his ass?
15:13:59 <T3sl4> rectum damn near killed him
15:14:10 <Nothing\> lol
15:14:19 <Nothing\> i always wondered what the set up to that joke was
15:14:43 <Nothing\> i always heard it was like a punchline without a setup. So the punchline IS the joke
15:16:32 <T3sl4> i'm not sure what a more common setup is, but that works
15:16:42 <Nothing\> the first time i heard it was watching Beverly Hills Ninja. That Chris Farley movie where he's a white ninja and hijinks ensue
15:17:01 <Nothing\> actually, i think either that, or that movie with matthew parrey was his last one
15:17:21 <Nothing\> T3sl4, it's the best i've ever heard
15:17:36 <Nothing\> i've only ever heard the punchline lol
15:25:05 <Nothing\> oh cool, one of the games on my Steam Wishlist is on sale for $2. I love it when that happens.
15:25:30 <Nothing\> not even sure what game this is, but for $2, I can't lose.

15:28:57 <T3sl4> Halcyon: not enough trackers
15:29:02 <Nothing\> But it's about electricity puzzles, and insanely cheap. So I can't go wrong.
15:29:03 <Halcyon> True
15:29:04 <Nothing\> right?
15:29:15 <alfbaz> Couldn't tell you anything about that Halcyon. As far as their website goes there seems to only be the one spot to d/l
15:29:27 <Halcyon> Dell is just as bad
15:29:41 <Nothing\> dude
15:29:46 <Nothing\> you're getting a Dell!
15:29:46 <Halcyon> I went looking for firmware the other day, you think that it would be listed under their support page? Nope.
15:29:56 <Nothing\> I'm so sorry! :(
15:29:58 <Halcyon> Nah we use them at work (unfortunately)
15:30:14 <Halcyon> It wasn't my choice. Some numpty decided they were a good idea
15:30:16 <Nothing\> should have been the appendix to Dell's catch phrase
15:30:17 <Halcyon> I use Lenovo at home
15:30:30 <Halcyon> (Thinkpad)
15:30:49 <Nothing\> imo the bottom of the barrel was compaq
15:30:50 <Halcyon> Sorry, I should clarify, our "corporate SOE" is based on Acer hardware
15:30:54 <Halcyon> We had to "fight" for Dell
15:31:00 <Nothing\> they were such a bitch to repair
15:31:13 <Nothing\> you had to take them half way apart just to access the HDD
15:31:39 <Halcyon> Our desktops are HP Z-series workstations, which are WAAAAAAY overpriced in my opinion
15:32:24 <alfbaz> Z as in mobo chipset?
15:32:54 <Halcyon> HP Z840 I think
15:34:21 <Halcyon> I think when new they were something like $13k per machine
15:35:11 <alfbaz> looking now. Seems they've halved in proce for top of the line in the series
15:35:18 <alfbaz> price
15:35:22 <Halcyon> Yeh the new Z8's are out
15:35:35 <Halcyon> Our ones are still in warranty so they aren't getting replaced anytime soon
15:36:01 <Halcyon> Meanwhile, my Thinkpad P1 Gen2 performs almost as well at my desktop at work
15:36:12 <Halcyon> At half the price
15:37:55 <alfbaz> hey you're into server type stuff, is there any benifit to be had going super multicore for a single user or am I better off just going for an ultra speedy gamimg machine for cad/3d work?
15:38:10 <Halcyon> For a desktop machine?
15:38:13 <alfbaz> yeah
15:38:28 <Halcyon> For gaming, you generally want GPU grunt
15:38:41 <Nothing\> what they need to do
15:38:41 <Halcyon> Probably the same for CAD (I don't use CAD)
15:38:44 <Nothing\> is make a care
15:38:49 <Nothing\> *car
15:38:54 <Nothing\> that's also a solar panel
15:39:03 <Nothing\> BOOM world energy problems solved
15:39:33 <Halcyon> Also, depends on the OS... I assume Windows?
15:39:36 <alfbaz> Funnily enough the main cad package I use doesn;t take advantage of the gpu
15:40:17 <Halcyon> Personally, if I could buy my laptop with an AMD GPU, I would have, as much as it pains me to say that
15:40:34 <Halcyon> But if you're using Windows, Intel or AMD with an NVIDIA or AMD GPU will do fine
15:40:41 <Nothing\> car's powered by solar cell, regenerative braking charges batteries which are used in the infrastructure through inductive coupling and boom
15:40:46 <Nothing\> no more energy problem
15:40:57 <Nothing\> see, anyone can do an elon musk
15:41:06 <Nothing\> or "musk" as i call it
15:41:13 <alfbaz> I like my lappy a lot but for serious work I couldn't go woth a multi monitor desktop
15:41:26 <alfbaz> without
15:41:47 <Halcyon> I use my laptop with a dock and just connect it to a single 4K monitor
15:41:56 <Halcyon> Before that, I used to use 2x HD monitors
15:42:25 <Halcyon> The ultimate question is, how much do you want to spend?
15:42:35 <Nothing\> i just have a desktop that connects to a TV
15:42:56 <Nothing\> though the TV probably doesn't do the 1660TI i have in it justice
15:43:00 <alfbaz> I'd have to do a comparison with my needed programs running and thats a hard thing to do
15:43:11 <Nothing\> i know i'm not getting the greatest framerate, for one
15:43:35 <Halcyon> There are a lot of variables involved. You really need to research your workflow and see what works best
15:43:49 <Halcyon> For example, on my Windows 7 machine, I find my stuff works better with HT turned off
15:44:00 <Nothing\> and somebody said something about the colorspace. But it's low priority stuff for my atm.
15:44:00 <Halcyon> As I don't need that pre-emptive, multiple core stuff
15:44:02 <alfbaz> budget would be around 5k but it would have to be future proof as far as practicable
15:44:19 <Nothing\> i spent $2k on my computer a few months ago
15:44:27 <Halcyon> Do you need portability alfbaz ?
15:44:30 <Halcyon> Or just a desktop?
15:44:49 <Nothing\> wish there was a m00 script for hexchat
15:44:54 <Halcyon> M00 ?
15:45:24 <Nothing\> yeah it was an old mircscript that would post your computer's specs to the channel
15:45:30 <alfbaz> No not at the moment so a desktop would be fine. Laptops would be ok for reviewing but not for designing... I think
15:45:57 <Halcyon> alfbaz, we could talk offline. I have wholesaler accounts so I can get a lot of stuff for cheaper.
15:45:59 <Nothing\> it really streamlined pissing contests lol
15:46:53 <Nothing\> sorry i feel like i've gone and interrupted something i wasn't meant to be part of here
15:47:01 <Halcyon> Not at all Nothing\
15:47:31 <alfbaz> Halcyon, If you can give me a month or two I woould like to talk, need to spend money on the shed at the moment :P
15:47:33 <Nothing\> good stuff
15:47:49 <Nothing\> i still need to find a damn game to play or something to keep my occupied
15:48:21 <Halcyon> alfbaz, no probs, hit me up whenever you like. I can spec something up for you. Happy to give you mates rates. My company doesn't make profit off hardware.
15:48:43 <Nothing\> not easy when i have 30gb free and not very much money disposable cash left.
15:48:50 <alfbaz> Excellent Halcyon, very much appreciated
15:48:52 <Halcyon> We normally add 15% to the cost of hardware, but I normally sell what I know, rather than what I can flogg
15:49:12 <Halcyon> Nothing\, can I send you some hard drives?
15:49:22 <Nothing\> lol why?
15:49:26 <Halcyon> Why not?
15:49:31 <Halcyon> I have drives, you need space
15:49:41 <Nothing\> oh for that lol
15:49:49 <Nothing\> there isn't any room for an HDD in this computer
15:50:00 <Nothing\> for some reason they neglected to include a drive bay in it
15:50:00 <alfbaz> Halcyon, I'm kind of glad I'm not up to speed on what you flogg :P
15:50:11 <Halcyon> :P
15:50:16 <Nothing\> all there is is a tiny box that my SSD is mounted in
15:50:24 <Halcyon> Wouldn't want to make you jealous
15:50:34 <alfbaz> LMFAO
15:50:47 <Halcyon> But seriously, aside from my day job, I run a networking company
15:50:53 <Nothing\> when i stuck the HDD from my old computer in this one, i wound up cramming it in the little nook inside the box the SSD's mounted on
15:51:05 <Halcyon> I sell my networking/cyber skills as opposed to actual hardware
15:51:13 <Halcyon> I am not interested in being a retail store (as such)
15:51:15 <Nothing\> which was originally full of wires, but now i've just got the wires going all over
15:51:33 <alfbaz> Halcyon, ahh that explains your desire for a shack
15:51:36 <Nothing\> this case looks nice, but it's utterly useless
15:51:47 <Halcyon> My house is my shack :P
15:51:52 <Halcyon> No wife you see
15:51:53 <Halcyon> Hahaha
15:51:56 <alfbaz> :p
15:52:14 <Halcyon> Being gay has its advantages
15:52:16 <Nothing\> the expansion ports of the mobo are blocked by the PSU, there are no drive bays. Only room for a single SSD
15:52:28 <alfbaz> why do you think mine is allowing the spend on myine
15:52:34 <Halcyon> Nothing\, what about an NVMe drive on an PCIe card?
15:52:44 <Halcyon> alfbaz, no idea?
15:53:26 <Nothing\> Halcyon, lol there have been times where i've genuinely wished i was gay just for the stereotypical advantages. Like having nice products for my skin and hair and having a clean apartment and stuff like that. You know what I mean.
15:53:37 <Nothing\> The sort of stuff that straight guys think gay guys get
15:53:39 <Halcyon> You could have that?
15:53:46 <Halcyon> Just fucking do it :P
15:53:50 <Nothing\> yeah but i'm not gay
15:53:54 <Halcyon> So?
15:53:58 <Nothing\> i can't do it if i'm not gay
15:54:04 <Halcyon> You can still look after your skin and have nice things
15:54:09 <Halcyon> Bullshit
15:54:17 <Halcyon> You are just making excuses
15:54:25 <Nothing\> lol sorry i was kinda pulling your leg there
15:54:34 <Halcyon> :P
15:54:38 <Nothing\> but i was serious about the first bit
15:54:39 <Halcyon> Asshole
15:54:50 <Nothing\> i really did wish i was gay for that same reason
15:54:58 <Halcyon> Oh honestly, being gay is the best thing about me. I love it so much.
15:55:09 <Halcyon> It helps that I have a brain too
15:55:53 <Nothing\> it's not so much that i can't get those things. It's that I'm cursed with mental quirks and issues which make getting these things more difficult. So I feel like if I were gay, I have more the type of personality I wish I had.
15:56:09 <Halcyon> What is stopping you?
15:56:12 <Nothing\> clean, sensitive, sociable, stuff like that
15:56:19 <Halcyon> You don't have to sleep with guys to achieve what you want
15:56:23 <Nothing\> Halcyon, it's just not in my personality i guess
15:56:30 <Nothing\> i mean, sure i can change things
15:56:36 <Halcyon> So? MAKE it part of your personality
15:56:41 <Nothing\> but it just reverts back in a couple of weeks. you know what i mean.
15:56:45 <Nothing\> changing is easy.
15:56:49 <Halcyon> If you want something, then grab it
15:56:51 <Nothing\> staying changed is hard as hell.
15:57:04 <Halcyon> I don't know what you mean?
15:57:26 <Nothing\> Halcyon, do you smoke or have any sort of addictions?
15:57:31 <Halcyon> Nope
15:57:35 <Nothing\> hrm
15:57:40 <Nothing\> well what i mean is
15:57:55 <Nothing\> it's easy to make the initial change and start acting the way you want, right
15:58:00 <Halcyon> Sure
15:58:04 <alfbaz> Isn't that clean thing just a stereotype, I know a few gays' that can be hardly be considered tidy freaks
15:58:06 <Nothing\> but it's REALLY difficult to keep that up
15:58:16 <Nothing\> and it gets harder and harder as time goes by
15:58:31 <Halcyon> alfbaz, yeh pretty much. Some gays are just incapable of looking after themselves
15:58:48 <Halcyon> Nothing\, it becomes difficult because you make it difficult
15:58:56 <Halcyon> And the longer it goes on, the harder it gets
15:59:09 <Nothing\> i feel like if my personality was different, it would be more nurturing for the sorts of qualities I wish I'd have.
15:59:12 <Halcyon> I mean, I'm not perfect, but I have rules I set myself in life
15:59:15 <alfbaz> You should see our mates place. He and his partner are practically pigs :P
15:59:47 <Halcyon> For example, one big rule I live by is: Everything has a home and if it doesn't then it goes in the bin
15:59:47 <Nothing\> for me, it boils down to a lack of motivation
16:00:06 <Halcyon> The motivation I have is that I like to invite people over all the time and entertain
16:00:17 <Nothing\> heh Halcyon everything would be in the bin except my furniture if that was the case
16:00:18 <Halcyon> I want things to be tidy and smell good (including me)
16:00:28 <alfbaz> Yeah one of my fav rules but it conflicts with my hoarding gene :P
16:00:42 <Nothing\> i have horrible hoarding tendencies
16:00:55 <Halcyon> You can hoard, as long as it's organised :P You should see my vintage tech collection. Everything has it's own labelled box.
16:01:23 Quit: Kuschelpony ([email protected]) Connection closed
16:01:35 <alfbaz> LOL, when ever I hear labels I hear Sheldon :P
16:01:38 <Nothing\> broken zip tie "oh I could use it to tie something up. Or melt the ends together closed
16:01:51 <Halcyon> Yeh... no... that's crap Nothing\
16:01:58 <Halcyon> That shit goes in the bin
16:02:13 <Nothing\> Halcyon, i think organization is differentiated from hoarding by categorization
16:02:48 <Nothing\> Halcyon, yeah i've never actually done THAT but it's an example of the sort of mindset I have sometimes. Ya know?
16:02:51 <Halcyon> I have no box for "used cable ties"
16:02:56 <Halcyon> That shouldn't exist
16:03:23 <Nothing\> lol
16:03:37 <Halcyon> Aside from my storage/server room, I'm a minimalist
16:03:44 <alfbaz> One box wouldn;t be enough as cable ties come in different sizes :P
16:03:44 <Nothing\> yeah it's like my brain goes to these crazy lengths to rationalize keeping garbage
16:03:48 <Halcyon> I don't like clutter in my kitchen or living rooms
16:05:21 <Halcyon> Also alfbaz, I'm still curious about this comment: <alfbaz> why do you think mine is allowing the spend on myine
16:05:25 <Halcyon> Explain
16:05:38 <Nothing\> like i have boxes of PCBs. What do they do? I have no clue. Why do I have them? brain says i could reverse engineer them and learn some stuff. Realistically they're probably just gonna collect dust for the next 20 years
16:05:58 <Halcyon> Then toss them Nothing\ and fill the box with something more useful ?
16:06:15 <Nothing\> i probably should
16:06:42 <Nothing\> or my brain feels like there might be a bit of really useful kit on one of those boards.
16:06:52 <Halcyon> Treat storage like a commodity
16:06:53 <Nothing\> But again, that's just the rationalizing
16:06:55 <Halcyon> Assign a value to it
16:07:05 <Halcyon> If it's worth fuck all, then do something better with it
16:07:18 <Nothing\> i watched a video about that today
16:07:46 <Nothing\> how people sorta turn daily activities into games, or at least add game mechanics to their every day activities to make them less tedious
16:08:01 <Nothing\> which I think would be awesome if it was done the right way
16:08:05 <Halcyon> Sure, if that's what works for you
16:08:08 <Halcyon> I don't play games
16:08:18 <alfbaz> Halcyon, we were talking about shacks and you said your whole house was one cause you didn't have a missus. I then meant to say Why do you think My missus is allowing me to spend money on my outside one, so I can get this shit out of the house
16:08:20 <Nothing\> Halcyon, i think it works basically like a skinner box
16:08:23 <Halcyon> I just do what "has" to be done
16:08:40 <Halcyon> alfbaz, makes sense :P
16:08:44 <Nothing\> you do something good in life, you get rewarded with a token that makes you happy
16:08:56 <Nothing\> the more good you do, the more happiness you get
16:09:02 <alfbaz> + she gets another room to decorate :P
16:09:03 <Halcyon> I just like tidiness and uniformity
16:09:07 <Halcyon> That's what makes me happy
16:09:33 <Nothing\> i'm the complete opposite
16:09:44 <Nothing\> i'm a total pig
16:09:51 <Halcyon> Even my spice jars have the same size label and font
16:09:56 <Nothing\> if I didn't share my place with my mom, it would probably be in ruins
16:09:59 <Halcyon> It would bug me if they were different
16:10:15 <Nothing\> but thankfully we have her hoardes of books lining the walls to keep my electronics at bay lol
16:10:33 <Nothing\> seriously, there are 7 book cases down here
16:10:43 <Halcyon> Do they ever get read?
16:10:49 <Nothing\> including stephen king's entire collection
16:10:56 <Nothing\> Halcyon, somehow, yeah
16:11:03 <Halcyon> Well that's fine then
16:11:08 <Nothing\> my mom reads or has read them all
16:11:19 <Halcyon> I like that
16:11:29 <Halcyon> I wish I had a library, like in Myst
16:11:29 <Nothing\> yeah she's huge on reading
16:11:39 <Nothing\> i wish i had myst
16:11:51 <Nothing\> theres' probably a GOG version somewhere
16:12:01 <Halcyon> I can send you the orginal ISO ?
16:12:06 <Nothing\> or something on steam
16:12:25 <Nothing\> i appreciate the gesture, but that's quite alright. Thanks.
16:12:34 <Halcyon> Suit yourself
16:12:39 <Nothing\> I'll probably end up either pirating it or downloading it on steam
16:13:02 <Halcyon> I wish I lived on a real Myst island
16:13:39 <alfbaz> I think I found a trigger that causes my missus to ask me annoying questions... It's the sound of fingers typing on a keyboard :P
16:14:02 <Nothing\> here are, myst, masterpiece edition and just like i called it, it's from GoG
16:14:03 <Halcyon> alfbaz, let me guess... "What are you doing? Why haven't you taken the bins out?"
16:14:48 <alfbaz> even worse, she want's to tell me all about shit dickheads down the road did or are saying
16:14:55 <Halcyon> Who cares?
16:15:03 <alfbaz> not me
16:15:14 <Halcyon> Let dickheads be dickheads, as long as they don't impact you
16:17:02 <Halcyon> My sister used to live in Koonawarra. I used to give her shit and say it's basically Dap-do (Dapto)
16:17:53 <alfbaz> Not dickheads per se merely ppl, you know generic ppl, dickheads :P
16:18:02 <Halcyon> Copy
16:18:59 <alfbaz> I now live in Bezerkeley (Berkeley)
16:19:09 <Halcyon> Hahahah
16:19:14 <Halcyon> Nice one
16:20:18 <Halcyon> Just up the road
16:20:34 <Halcyon> And I meant to say Kanahooka, not Koonawarra
16:20:35 <alfbaz> serene one minute, berserk the next
16:20:41 <Halcyon> Always get those two confused
16:21:27 <alfbaz> yeah that and they're next to each other (Koonawarra and Kanahooka)
16:21:41 <Halcyon> She lives in Coota (Cootamundra) now
16:22:59 <alfbaz> wow that's far from the ocean, I don't think I could cope without seeing it every day
16:23:19 <Halcyon> I live in the bush myself. I love the serenity

16:29:41 <Halcyon> Hehehe
16:29:55 <Halcyon> Never really got into Seinfeld
16:30:01 <Halcyon> I mean I've seen it... but meh
16:30:07 <Halcyon> I was more of a Will & Grace guy
16:31:41 <alfbaz> Took me ages to get into it, wasn't until one of my brothers gave me a vhs video with a bunch of taped episodes Tha got me hooked. Come to think of it that was my first binge watching experience

22:02:20 <Ampera> hello
22:02:33 <Reg7805> way someone is here
22:02:46 <Reg7805> how you doing?
22:02:58 <Ampera> not sure how, I think I just figure it out somehow
22:03:41 <Reg7805> do you know about 3d printers?
22:03:50 <Ampera> a bit
22:04:16 <Reg7805> i have an valleman k8200 3d printer
22:04:26 <Ampera> good for you
22:04:26 <Reg7805> but missing the hot end assembly
22:05:17 <Reg7805> read about 3d3 v6
22:05:30 <Reg7805> but for the printer
22:05:45 <Reg7805> its bit confusing,
22:07:32 <Reg7805> i would like to put on new hot end assembly and proablly extruder becuase of the missing hot end assembly
22:07:51 <Reg7805> do you know anything about this?
22:08:28 <Ampera> nope
22:08:32 <Reg7805> or IRC chat where i can ask this kind of stuff
22:08:39 <Ampera> do I look like google to you?
22:09:57 <Reg7805> im just having hard time finding information about this pirtucular printer becuase a lot stuff is wiped from the internet
22:10:21 <Reg7805> dead links everywere
22:12:26 <rust_collector> so, what do you need to know about it?
22:17:24 <Reg7805> i really think i need compelete guide on ateempting to replace my hotend assembly and extruder for k8200 becuase i have never i had 3d printer before
22:17:59 <rust_collector> did you find the assembly manual for your printer?
22:19:07 <rust_collector> I think you can use almost any parts you can find for 3d printers, you just have to adjust the settings in software.
22:19:18 <rust_collector> http://www.k8200.eu/downloads/0/assembly/assembly_manual_k8200_uk.pdf
22:19:22 <Reg7805> yes i did i have been reading on it, the problem is the hot end assembly is very expensive
22:20:22 <Reg7805> and read on the internet hot end assembly is not very good anyways
22:20:33 <rust_collector> yes, so it is a velleman. but I bet you can use whatever cheap chinese parts you want to, as long as you can make them bolt in place, and they are at the same voltage and power level

22:32:10 <rust_collector> I do not know much about the details of those things, but they are pretty basic machines. as long as the software allows you to adjust things, so the machine believes it has the original parts, it should be fine. But try to find the power rating also, as I don't know how much more power the control board can supply?
22:32:47 <Kuschelpony> good evening
22:32:55 <rust_collector> hey Kuschelpony
22:33:11 <Kuschelpony> Hello rustcollector
22:34:00 <Reg7805> well i think i will repalce it with cheap copy 3d3 v6 hotend assembly and keep the original extuder for now, so i can get it up and running
22:34:28 <Reg7805> just trying to figure out now if the 3d3 v6 takes 3mm filament
22:35:20 <Reg7805> i beleive the software is open source so i should be fine.
22:41:49 <Kuschelpony> i have to ask you all to excuse me how i posted the past days much too much about my personal issues
22:42:13 <Kuschelpony> now i have found the explanation, its called "Autistic Regression"
22:42:39 <Kuschelpony> i try to focus purely on tech issues here and be silent otherwise
22:42:43 <Kuschelpony> thanks for reading
22:43:32 <rust_collector> meh, we all have our issues, if you need to say something about it, then just do it.
22:45:29 <Kuschelpony> i already did the past week or so
22:47:24 <rust_collector> and everyone is still alive.
22:51:26 <Kuschelpony> just to say i do not have suicide wishes, my mind is rational enough to say then i would finally hav no more chance for a fulfiling life
22:52:34 <rust_collector> that seems to be correct
