36:08 <Ysjoelfir> one is a safety membrane that keeps a ball valve closed. if the motor creates enough suction it openes and allows a small mechanical pump (membrane 2) to inject a small bit of fuel into the air inlet, which allows for a liiiiiiittle bit more torque but also increases fuel consumption by roughly 0.5l/100km. the third one is an air cut valve which keeps a ball valve open which allows air from the filter to go into the float bowl. if you now
36:08 <Ysjoelfir> slam the throttle shut from full throttle that valve suddenly closes and creates a small overpressure in the float, adding more fuel through the idling nozzle which enriches the mixture and prevents backfiring
39:33 <Ysjoelfir> problem is, all those membranes tend to blow which results in a very rich fuel mixture, which basically makes the bike impossible to start as soon as its only a little bit warm. and those membranes are not very cheap, you can nearly buy a new carb when you need to replace all of them.
