20:21:09 <Halcyon1> YAY
20:21:12 <Halcyon1> New ISP
20:21:16 <Halcyon1> Still shit NBN speeds
20:26:00 <steve30> how fast?
20:26:20 <Halcyon1> 30 Mbit down 10 up
20:26:47 <Halcyon1> But this provided has more CVC capacity
20:27:04 <Halcyon1> And all the call centres are local. The techs actually know what they are talking about.
20:27:16 <MrMobodies> that's nice
20:27:23 <MrMobodies> Virgin Media were the opposite
20:27:57 <MrMobodies> I got two lines on FTTC and I get 50 to 60mbit up and 15mbit down and I had that since 2015 after leaving Virginmedia business.
20:28:32 <MrMobodies> I am paying a lot and they don't seem to be investing
20:29:02 <Halcyon1> Well that's the other thing, this ISP publish their live CVC data online for all to see: https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/cvc-graphs/
20:29:06 <Halcyon1> You ask most ISP
20:29:16 <Halcyon1> 's what their contention ratio is and they go silent
20:29:24 <Halcyon1> Or have NFI what you're on about
20:30:44 <MrMobodies> They even show congestion on the virtual circuits rather than relying on reports.
20:30:57 <Halcyon1> Yup
20:31:04 Nick: Halcyon1 is now known as Halcyon
20:31:12 Quit: Halcyon ([email protected]) Changing hosts

20:31:21 <Halcyon> I appreciate good service
20:31:53 <Halcyon> Especially @ $90/month
20:31:54 <MrMobodies> I wish I had that, I'll send that to my ISP as an idea.
20:32:11 <Halcyon> You should, there is no reason why they can't release that with today's technology
20:32:18 <Halcyon> Whether they will is a different story
20:32:57 <Halcyon> You do get what you pay for, if you go with a budget ISP, they don't care.
20:33:18 <MrMobodies> That's why I am with business.
20:33:24 <MrMobodies> I pick up the phone and it is robot free
20:33:47 <MrMobodies> But yet I paid more with VirginMedia Business when took over NTL Business and I did nto expect a robot
20:33:52 <MrMobodies> for £120 a month
20:33:59 <MrMobodies> on Docsis cable
20:34:28 <MrMobodies> "Just so you know we;re here to give you the best service possibke"... yeah right
20:35:24 <Halcyon> The only difference between "business grade" and residential services on our NBN is the ISP's own internal service delivery models. They generally give higher priority to tech support tickets for those on business plans. But as for the connection itself, its exactly the same. Same CVC, same contention ratios.
20:35:52 <MrMobodies> I know about the contention ratios
20:35:54 <Halcyon> The only time it makes a big difference is if you have an on-net service (so dedicated fibre or ethernet owned by the provider)
20:36:02 <MrMobodies> when I first join NTL Business they told me theirs
20:36:40 <MrMobodies> something about 15 users per head end but you got the cable being shared on the street and that was on 1ombps in 2009
20:37:39 <MrMobodies> What I like though with Talktalk business I pick up the phone, if there are problems, I have graphics to stuff to show and they are honest with me.
20:38:42 * T3sl4 downloads Halcyon
20:38:58 * Halcyon corrupts T3sl4
20:39:03 <Halcyon> >;-)
20:39:26 <MrMobodies> I Just going for my breakfast
20:40:05 <T3sl4> a download is an electronic grope, i guess
20:40:13 <T3sl4> i trust you appreciated it ;)
20:42:26 <Halcyon> Of course
20:42:42 <Halcyon> Also, you're now bisexual, hence the "corruption"
20:42:42 <Halcyon> :P
20:46:13 <T3sl4> i gathered that :P
21:06:20 <MrMobodies> Talking of broadband
21:06:29 <MrMobodies> I get called out by customers
21:07:43 <MrMobodies> they just moved in and decorated and place and they wonder about cabling after. After the decorations. They believe what the adverts and customer services tell them not aware that one access point may not be enough.
21:08:45 <MrMobodies> Sometimes they catch me before the work and I tell them.
21:11:07 <Halcyon> I had discussions about WiFi today with people at work
21:11:14 <Halcyon> Consumer APs suck (for the most part)
21:11:26 <Halcyon> And are normally not configured as well as they can be
21:13:16 <MrMobodies> One large family had a tiny little Sky hub in a large house, and they were telling me mysteries about it and what can I do to make the wifi work better wwithout running cables around the house and they only wanted "a bit of internet". I said either it works or doesn't.
21:13:36 <Halcyon> Hehehe
21:13:56 <MrMobodies> I got my way in the end and they accused me of spying on them.
21:14:03 <Halcyon> It's funny, but yeh, people don't understand how technologies like that work
21:14:10 <Halcyon> Oh gawd
21:14:27 <Halcyon> Just tell them you were only spying on them "a little bit" :P
21:14:39 <MrMobodies> They phoned me up at 11pm at night. their mains use to trip and they didn't want to spend money on UPS
21:14:59 <MrMobodies> they had a large swimming pool pump
21:15:04 <MrMobodies> that cuased problems
21:15:22 <MrMobodies> large swimming pool and they only wanted "a little bit or interest"
21:15:27 <MrMobodies> typos oops
21:16:19 <MrMobodies> Good thing about all this stuff, it detect lies
21:16:25 <MrMobodies> and they use to lie a lot
21:16:44 <MrMobodies> they'd pretend to be your best friend to get you to do more work for them
21:16:52 <MrMobodies> they were good at begging
21:17:18 <MrMobodies> and getting rid of people
21:17:44 <MrMobodies> I like the options on this page
21:17:44 <MrMobodies> https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/small-business/nbn-plans/nbn-modem/
21:18:39 <MrMobodies> That Netcomm NF18ACV looks very similar to the Huawei hg635
21:19:08 <MrMobodies> except for all the other ports
21:19:14 <Halcyon> And the Chinese spy stuff :P
21:19:27 <MrMobodies> they all from the same place/ or factory
21:19:33 <Halcyon> Yeh Aussie BB are one of our more "premium" providers, along with Internode
21:20:01 <MrMobodies> Voip phone adaptors for $69. Nice
21:20:40 <Halcyon> Yeh that's about the going retail price too
21:20:56 <Halcyon> The cheapest I can find is AUD$60
21:21:11 <MrMobodies> £64 FOR TWO PORTS
21:21:21 <MrMobodies> that'll do just me
21:21:36 <Halcyon> Why so expensive over there?
21:22:04 <Halcyon> I could almost buy 2 of those at retail for that money
21:22:06 <MrMobodies> I don't know whatever goes for $100 int he states go for a lot more in £
21:22:10 <MrMobodies> https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00684PN54/ref=asc_df_B00684PN5457822019/
21:22:44 <Halcyon> If you're after multiple, it would probably be cheaper buying them from here and shipping them over
21:22:54 <Halcyon> I wonder how much postage is...
21:23:05 <MrMobodies> I'll pay whoever wants to do it a little comission
21:23:06 <Halcyon> You're in the UK?
21:23:11 <MrMobodies> Yes
21:23:31 <Halcyon> Let's say... 3 KG box?
21:23:45 <MrMobodies> 458 grams
21:24:01 <Halcyon> Oh OK...
21:24:50 <Halcyon> 1KG from my local post office to the UK is AUD$34.90 for economy air (8 business days) with increasing tiers depending how much faster you want it.
21:25:04 <Halcyon> That's without insurance, tracking etc...
21:25:12 <MrMobodies> Oh
21:25:40 <Halcyon> With tracking and cover for AUD$100 is AUD$46.90
21:25:47 <Halcyon> And 6 business day shipping
21:25:50 <MrMobodies> Just as much as the item
21:26:05 <MrMobodies> 6 business days is quick
21:26:07 <Halcyon> *nod* but if you were buying several for customers for example...
21:26:14 <MrMobodies> aah flat rate
21:26:28 <Halcyon> There is also courier which is 2 business days but costs double
21:26:33 <Halcyon> It goes by weight
21:27:42 <Halcyon> For 500g its AUD$33.20 with tracking and insurance for just 1 unit.
21:27:59 <MrMobodies> That's not too bad.
21:28:20 <Halcyon> I would throw in some vegemite for you :P
21:28:22 <MrMobodies> I once got Tim/flying bean to send me those discontinued sata to ide adaptors
21:28:29 <MrMobodies> oh vegemite
21:28:39 <Halcyon> Yeh you guys have Marmite over there
21:28:44 <Halcyon> Never really liked that stuff
21:28:48 <MrMobodies> Not a fan of that but
21:28:59 <MrMobodies> could always get it another try
21:29:08 <Halcyon> Or Tim Tams, Asian tourists go nuts for those
21:29:36 <Halcyon> https://www.arnotts.com/products/tim-tam/
21:29:51 <Halcyon> Chocolate covered chocolate biscuits with a chocolate creme filling
21:29:56 <Halcyon> They are actually *really* nice.
21:30:00 <MrMobodies> I can see from the pictures
21:30:05 Quit: hsn ([email protected]) Ping timeout: 121 seconds
21:30:19 <MrMobodies> Feel like an eating spree
21:30:30 <Halcyon> I just had baked fish and veges
21:30:47 <MrMobodies> baked fish and marmite
21:31:09 <MrMobodies> I'll get a tub when I am out next
21:31:14 <Halcyon> I wonder if there is a way we could start up our own EEVblog food "subscription" box
21:31:37 <MrMobodies> that might be an idea
21:31:56 <Halcyon> We could all come up with our own select box of various fewds
21:31:59 <MrMobodies> engineers who know how to cook
21:32:24 <Halcyon> I love cooking. I wish there was a way to keep food frozen for long enough to send by post
21:32:36 <MrMobodies> You could ask Dave to do a video on cooking
21:32:41 <MrMobodies> and of course film it
21:33:01 <Halcyon> I'm not sure that he does a lot of cooking? I'm pretty sure I had this discussion with him before and he laughed at me.
21:34:32 <MrMobodies> components can be just like ingredients.
21:35:38 <Halcyon> His wife is lovely though
21:35:51 <Halcyon> She's the sort of person who would have dinner on the table ready for him
21:35:52 <MrMobodies> Maybe he can do the interview and she can cook
21:35:57 <MrMobodies> nice
21:36:12 <MrMobodies> she does all the cooking when he comes home
21:38:52 <MrMobodies> I like that new office they moved into and windows.
21:39:06 <MrMobodies> Nice and blue when I last saw it
21:39:35 <Halcyon> I think we have as much blue sky here as you guys have rain and clouds :)
21:39:53 <Halcyon> Although some places like Melbourne can have 4 seasons in one day
21:40:24 <MrMobodies> it has been miserable throughout the whole Christmas and sometimes for half a day it'll be nice
21:41:54 <Halcyon> I keep saying to steve30 he should move here :)
21:42:07 <Halcyon> I reckon he'd just hang out at the beach most of the time
21:45:24 <MrMobodies> The nearest beach is near the Southend area
21:45:39 <MrMobodies> it was slum 10 years ago but recently they did it all up

21:46:49 <Halcyon> Nice
21:46:59 <Halcyon> Is it a sandy beach or a rocky one like on Isle of Man ?
21:47:07 <Halcyon> (Big Clive did a recent video on the beach)
21:47:20 <MrMobodies> I'll take a look

21:49:02 <MrMobodies> Just noticed the colours of his beard matches therock and stuff on the surface
