01:16:52 <Ampera> good morning
01:17:02 <Halcyon> Morning Ampera
01:17:08 <Ampera> how are you doing Halcyon
01:17:45 <Halcyon> I feel weird
01:17:57 <Halcyon> Kind of energetic

01:18:32 <Halcyon> Hooray!
01:26:03 <MrMobodies> Hello
01:26:09 <MrMobodies> chargers turned up
01:26:15 <MrMobodies> very disappointed
01:26:16 <Ampera> dodge?
01:26:17 <Ampera> sweet
01:26:19 <Ampera> what year
01:26:30 <MrMobodies> it sats "USB" on it
01:26:35 <Halcyon> What kind of chargers MrMobodies ?
01:26:41 <MrMobodies> a BC6
01:26:44 <Ampera> dodge chargers obviously
01:26:46 <Ampera> american muscle
01:26:48 <Ampera> :D
01:26:49 <MrMobodies> I really thought there was a USB port on
01:26:53 <Halcyon> So garbage then
01:26:54 <MrMobodies> but it is just pins
01:27:04 <MrMobodies> and needs an "optional extra"
01:27:13 <Halcyon> Like a header?
01:27:18 <MrMobodies> the port can be used a temperature sensor
01:27:33 <MrMobodies> they shouldn't mark it as a USB port
01:27:47 <MrMobodies> if it needs an adaptor (a serial link etc)
01:27:48 <Halcyon> Especially when there is no port
01:27:59 <MrMobodies> yes I am not pleased
01:28:00 <MrMobodies> oh
01:28:01 <MrMobodies> http://www.vbpowerbattery.com/product/119-vb-bc6-10-e-station-balancing-charger---discharger-bc6-10-cdaf/
01:28:02 <EEVBot> [url] VB-BC6-10 e-Station Balancing Charger / Discharger for NiMH/NiCD/Li-PO/Li-Fe/SLA -10Amps | www.vbpowerbattery.com
01:28:13 <MrMobodies> "The BC6-10 Manual indicates that the EAC200 software graphing kit is included with the BC6-10 Charger. It is not included and is an optional accessory. We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused."
01:28:19 <MrMobodies> very misleading
01:28:31 <MrMobodies> I am going to try and find out what the pins do
01:29:03 <Halcyon> Can you just get a refund?
01:30:20 <Halcyon> Also, thank you MrMobodies for responding to my HDD thread, I didn't get a chance to thank you before.
01:30:30 <Halcyon> I appreciate the feedback
01:31:03 <Halcyon> I am still no closer to answers, it's a strange one for sure.

01:32:00 <MrMobodies> they should have called it a "pc link"
01:32:06 <MrMobodies> I got it for £20
01:32:17 <MrMobodies> I brought it because it was one listed
01:32:26 <MrMobodies> in a program called "Logview"
01:32:44 <MrMobodies> that i use for a Charge manager 2020
01:33:50 <MrMobodies> http://www.logview.info/OnlineHelp/LogView/clip0016.png
01:33:55 <Halcyon> Maybe you can get a refund AND keep the product. To me they are misusing the USB logo and misrepresenting the product.
01:34:34 <MrMobodies> I suppose I could open a case to the fact the listing didn't show the "USB" port
01:35:03 <MrMobodies> if it is a serial port
01:35:06 <MrMobodies> how would I know
01:35:13 <MrMobodies> I do have some serial converters
01:35:17 <Halcyon> Well USB is still "serial"
01:35:22 <Halcyon> But still
01:35:31 <MrMobodies> yes I mean rs232 serial
01:35:40 <MrMobodies> or rs485
01:35:41 <Halcyon> The USB 'trident" logo is trademarked.
01:36:59 <MrMobodies> aah I see
01:37:05 <MrMobodies> there is the USB logo
01:37:59 <Halcyon> I mean it does also say "USB PC Link" on the chassis, but to me it's misleading
01:38:21 <Halcyon> A reasonable person would assume there is a USB port where it says there is a USB port
01:38:47 <Halcyon> Or at the VERY least, include an adapter cable
01:39:18 <MrMobodies> before I do anything I am looking around for a charger
01:39:28 <MrMobodies> that will work with this particular program
01:39:43 <Halcyon> While you do that, I need to go to sleep
01:39:50 <MrMobodies> oh
01:39:50 <Halcyon> It's nearly 0200
01:39:52 <MrMobodies> night
01:39:59 <MrMobodies> 2am
01:40:00 <Halcyon> I'm up in 6 hours.

05:23:03 <arch> electrohead, i changed up the schematic slightly so that: 1. the battery will always be charged, at a moderate current (~500mA), if the micro USB input is plugged in; 2. the lepton, uC, and screen (ie. device) is active only when the main switch is turned on; 3. if the micro USB is plugged in, it will use it as its primary power and continue charging the battery if needed; else, it will use the battery for the power. let me know if anyone sees
05:23:03 <arch> anything wonky with the schematic: https://i.imgur.com/1TCGYlB.png
05:25:55 <rust5> yeah
05:26:04 <rust5> it would be much better

05:27:18 <rust5> an alternative is to use the orange/brown/green system
05:30:38 <electrohead> arch: so I was going to ask you about the power mux - are you just sticking with the diodes for the time being?
05:31:09 <arch> yeah...its fucking hard to get sot-23-6 or sot-23-8 power muxes. anything else would be hard as hell for a DIY person with a stick soldering iron to solder
05:31:13 <arch> trying to keep it DIY friendly
05:31:19 <arch> sure it's inefficient, but it will work
05:31:33 <arch> in fact, i have done it for the Controleo2 DIY version i made, for both my ovens
05:32:06 <electrohead> ahh ok, yeah fair
05:32:27 <electrohead> what's your opinion about the tp4056?
05:32:51 <Ampera> toiletpaper4056
05:32:51 <arch> i juuuust got them in the mail today lol
05:33:24 <arch> i can't see anything wrong with it. i have made linear mode lipo chargers before. they're simple, quick, easy to make
05:33:51 <rust5> not that I have used them for anything complicated, but they seem ok for just charging batteries
05:34:36 <arch> unless you wanna pay $4 just for a LT switched mode lipo chip...you can't beat em price wise

07:16:02 <Ysjoelfir> so, the misses had her bornday today, which I used to gift her an old gumball dispenser where I hid an engagement ring in.
07:17:19 <rust5> so, how many balls of gum does she have to go thru first?

08:23:01 <arch> electrohead, you're missing 4 or 5 other monitors
08:24:16 <Ampera> arch, you're a NYer, here's an honest question. Rank in order from best to worst: Domino's, Pizza Hut, walking on broken glass
08:25:02 <arch> dont think i've ever ordered from there. i usually get it from the nearest mom and pop pizzeria
08:25:13 <Ampera> acceptable answer
08:25:45 <k1tt1n> But has arch ever listened to dominos or pizza hut? I'm only familiar with the "walking on broken glass" song.
08:25:56 <arch> lol
08:27:13 <arch> you can play doom on one of these switches. using the switch itself as the controller: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/nkk-switches/ISC15ANP4/2039171

10:31:19 <MrMobodies> Hello
10:31:30 <MrMobodies> I found something for the charger
10:31:44 <MrMobodies> unfortunately the item is in Italy
10:31:53 <MrMobodies> and I need to buy 30 euros worth of stuff
10:32:08 <MrMobodies> so I emailed them asking, if I give them the 30 euros for the two items
10:32:51 <MrMobodies> but declare the price 2x 6 euros plus delivery and customs/taxes(if possible)
10:33:06 <MrMobodies> so I don't end up paying tax ontop of things I don't want
10:33:16 <MrMobodies> What does this picture look like?

10:33:24 <MrMobodies> It is the best resolution I can find
10:33:32 <MrMobodies> is it some kind of serial converter?

10:36:12 <MrMobodies> I have opened the unit but most of the chips are under the screen and the screen is soldered down

11:35:11 <MrMobodies> they look to me like western digitals

11:35:46 <Nothing\> MrMobodies, weird, digitalis keeps coming up lately for some reason
11:35:51 <Nothing\> digitalis/digoxin
11:36:21 <Nothing\> it's not like i just learned about it and so I'm noticing it more often. It's simply appearing randomly more than one would expect by chance.
11:36:32 <MrMobodies> I don't understand

11:37:11 <Nothing\> MrMobodies, are you familiar with carl jung's concept of synchronicities?
11:37:16 <MrMobodies> I brought a battery charger
11:37:17 <Nothing\> yeah, anything man
11:37:23 <Nothing\> i'm an open book
11:37:29 <MrMobodies> it advertises USB on it with the logo
11:37:37 <MrMobodies> but that is an optional extra the USB
11:37:43 <MrMobodies> it has a pin header
11:37:45 <MrMobodies> 3 pins
11:37:53 <Nothing\> heh i knew you were gonna say that
11:37:58 <MrMobodies> to act as a temperature sensor or USB (I doubt it is USB)
11:37:59 <Nothing\> has the header but nothing attached
11:38:04 <MrMobodies> I have a picture
11:38:12 <Nothing\> yeah le'ts have a look

11:38:45 <rust5> they sell an "adapter" cable, with a cp2102 so...
11:38:53 <MrMobodies> now I suspect it is serial
11:39:03 <MrMobodies> and the adapter is a USB converter
11:39:13 <MrMobodies> I found the part which is selling it italy
11:39:27 <electrohead> Nothing\: you weren't here when I posted this - https://0xznc01.pw:2600/public/IMG_20230128_160241.jpg
11:39:30 <Nothing\> ah i see what you mean. When you said header I thought you meant just the holes in the board for leads to be soldered into
11:39:43 <MrMobodies> https://www.elyshop.com/store/media/catalog/product/cache/2/thumbnail/600x/17f82f742ffe127f42dca9de82fb58b1/e/a/eac200_0001_1.jpg
11:39:47 <Nothing\> but yeah that looks like it should have some sort of device with its own female header to connect to it
11:40:01 <Nothing\> perhaps they didn't send you the part
11:40:11 <rust5> it is an option
11:40:12 <MrMobodies> no it is an optional extra apparently

11:40:29 <EEVBot> [url] Program kit for charger Software CD + card EAC200 | www.elyshop.com
11:40:31 <Nothing\> well if you know what kind of sensor it is, you may be able to make your own.
11:40:35 <Nothing\> may being the key word
11:40:41 <MrMobodies> I opened it up to check
11:40:47 <rust5> and it is STILL a cp2102 regular usb to serial thing
11:40:53 <MrMobodies> they hide the chips under the screen and so many to unsolder
11:41:03 <Nothing\> i know it's not hard to make a thremal sensor out of either a resistive element or a diode
11:41:17 <Nothing\> the diode's more accurate but also more mathy
11:41:32 <MrMobodies> so it might not be rs232 or rs485
11:41:40 <MrMobodies> the pin header I mean
11:41:40 <Nothing\> that's weird
11:41:43 <Nothing\> yeah
11:41:49 <MrMobodies> I chose the charger because
11:41:57 <Nothing\> i wouldn't think they'd need a serial port for a simple analog value like that
11:42:03 <MrMobodies> it works with a program called LogView V2
11:42:06 <Nothing\> but what do i know
11:42:24 <Nothing\> electrohead, sorry for the late reply, clicking now
11:42:36 <Nothing\> duuuude
11:42:39 <Nothing\> that is so awesome
11:42:42 <MrMobodies> so if there a way I can find out with a meter
11:42:44 <Nothing\> it looks like a transformer
11:42:47 <MrMobodies> what it might be
11:42:58 <Nothing\> did you mean for that, electrohead? or was it a happy accidentL

11:43:38 <electrohead> Lmfao
11:43:43 <Nothing\> MrMobodies, i'm not sure about a meter. I'd be looking for a model number and documentation

11:44:29 <Nothing\> they have that sort of sense of humour
11:44:36 <electrohead> hahaha
11:44:37 <Nothing\> at least my god does
11:44:39 <MrMobodies> many of the controllers hidden under the screen and the screen is soldered
11:44:51 <Nothing\> but i digress into potentially uncomfortable territory
11:44:54 <MrMobodies> I looked at the documentation
11:44:58 <MrMobodies> and it doesn't say much
11:45:11 <MrMobodies> I think they are out to make some money
11:45:18 <MrMobodies> by being discrete about it
11:45:53 <Nothing\> MrMobodies, short of that I'd say take it apart to where you can see the pcb and traces, and either try to reverse engineer it yourself, or find a forum/subreddit that has people who will be willing to do it for it.
11:45:57 <Nothing\> *for you
11:46:38 <Nothing\> i mean i'm sure you can use a multimeter with continuity checking to map out the circuit. But afaik that's the most use you can get from them in that regard.
11:46:45 <rust5> isnt seria things ground and rx and tx?
11:46:58 <MrMobodies> the ground pin is
11:47:00 <Nothing\> rust5, that's a good point
11:47:07 <MrMobodies> https://i.imgur.com/ohxpDhC.jpg
11:47:11 <MrMobodies> the one at the botto
11:47:23 <MrMobodies> putting the volt meter to that and the tp shows 5v
11:47:33 <rust5> so, ground is to ground, and... the others will probably not destroy anything, if you mix them up?
11:47:34 <MrMobodies> leaving the middle pin as the communication I think
11:47:53 <MrMobodies> I have connected up soe ribbon cable stuff
11:47:57 <Nothing\> heh i found that my tv has an RS-232 port on it for some reason
11:47:59 <MrMobodies> and I have few converters
11:48:03 <MrMobodies> that's nice
11:48:08 <Nothing\> despite being a 75in sony that was just made this year
11:48:12 <MrMobodies> tried connecting it up?
11:48:24 <Nothing\> it's hidden behind a panel but I'm curious to see what i can do with it
11:48:37 <rust5> they use that and "screen" to change stuff in there
11:48:39 <Nothing\> but i'm not so curious to potentially break a $1500 tv
11:49:20 <Nothing\> oh hey speaking of TVs i got a great idea. The Guinness record for the world's largest video display
11:49:53 <Nothing\> it would consist of 100x100 of those 135in laser displays they (forget the company) just put out
11:50:05 <rust5> I have delivered quite a few 98" tvs lately. it seems to be the new cool thing
11:50:12 <Nothing\> actually you'd need more than that if each is to act as its own pixel
11:50:43 <Nothing\> let's cut it back to 1280x1024 80in LED TVs
11:50:52 <Nothing\> lol can you imagine
11:51:15 <Nothing\> the cost, the size, lol you couldn't even make it out except from space probably
11:51:41 <Nothing\> how big is 80x1280 inches in real units
11:52:10 <rust5> 80x1280?
11:52:29 <Nothing\> 250,000cm long
11:53:11 <Nothing\> and 200,000 wide
11:53:27 <j1tt1n> You wish
11:53:32 <j1tt1n> !twss
11:53:33 <EEVBot> That's what she said!
11:54:15 <Nothing\> j1tt1n, the funny thing is, if planned obsolesence wasn't a thing and every tv produced still worked as it should, would could actually have a reasonable chance of doing something like that
11:54:21 <electrohead> lol
11:54:24 <Nothing\> maybe not with 80in displays, but with something
11:54:55 <j1tt1n> https://files.maxuel.compy.ca:5281/upload/YzbbHgTogbOinOR6/2pdePD8lS1GgDy3zZ_PJ8w.jpg

12:20:13 <Nothing\> i bought some zen magnets, those magnetic ball bearings, from aliexpress a few months ago and the quality was just awful. No two were the same size and they were pitted with visible dents and flat spots (for a 2.5mm ball). So I wrote the company playing the chinese nationalism card, telling them that poor quality products like this reflect poorly on China's manufacturing capabilities. And that one expect better qua
12:20:13 <Nothing\> (LOL) and they're only hurting PRC's reputation by cutting corners like this. And so on
12:20:25 <Nothing\> and i wrote it in chinese
12:20:33 <Nothing\> just for extra emphasis
12:20:52 <Nothing\> it's funny because they go NUTS over nationalism over there

12:22:41 <MrMobodies> basically insulting them

13:07:00 <j1tt1n> Aside from some spudger marks, I'm just happy to make an attempt while not making things worse. Oh and also preparing out one of those standalone charger boards because that makes more sense than a portable pack I've purposefully kept empty (until now).

13:31:44 <T3sl4> replugged my prolific uart the other day, had to again remind windows not to update the driver
13:40:44 <Nothing\> T3sl4, hello chief. Let's talk why not.
13:41:08 <T3sl4> Nothing\, https://i.imgur.com/BCBdsjm.gif
13:41:14 <Nothing\> i still know nothing about UART
13:41:46 <Nothing\> it's one of those things i've never had to do anything with it and as a result i've simply never learned a single thing about it besides it's some sort of serial format and perhaps part of the acronym
13:42:12 <Nothing\> T3sl4, aww you meanie
13:42:36 <T3sl4> if you ever talked to a com port it's probably a uart
13:42:42 <T3sl4> not really very interesting
13:43:05 <Nothing\> but useful to know about i would imagine
13:43:41 <Nothing\> T3sl4, what do you think of this ChatGPT thing?
13:43:57 <Nothing\> i'm actually tempted to get a 1 month subscription just to try it out
13:44:16 <T3sl4> meh
13:44:18 <Nothing\> the free trial lets you use the "standard intelligence" for a total of 5 messages
13:44:26 <Nothing\> kinda limited
13:45:13 <Nothing\> T3sl4, from what I got out of even the very limited trial i was allowed, it seems about as dumb as any other chat bot. Aside from the essay thing.
13:45:30 <Nothing\> but trying to have an actual conversation with it, there's nothing even remotely human about it.
13:46:02 <T3sl4> it's a language model, so, it repsonds in a likely manner to prompts
13:46:19 <Nothing\> kind of disappointing. I got on the list for Google's AI Test Kitchen, but who knows when they'll have a spot for me.
13:46:35 <T3sl4> it's trained on, well, ~waves generally at the internet~, so it's "knowledgeable" about almost anything, but doesn't infer anything as far as i know

And so they're predictions as to what I'm talking about or will talk about (or search for) are always dead wrong. Even before Google search took on the intelligence of a brain damaged child.
13:47:57 <Nothing\> *their predictions
13:48:04 <Nothing\> can't believe i made that typo

13:50:40 <Nothing\> i was amusing over how we're taught from a young age that every vowel makes 2 sounds, a long sound and a short sound. For 16 sounds total. But the IPA for English chart has 40 different sounds just for the vowels
13:51:30 <Nothing\> weird because i recall reading somewhere that english has 43.... what's the word for the indivisible sounds that make up a language? phonemes?

16:00:53 <T3sl4> ofc

16:11:41 <arch> i could make the trace width 0.75mm and that would work, but that's kinda cutting it close
16:12:10 <arch> using awg34 wire, technically should work even with 0.5mm track widths, but gonna be annoying to solder
16:12:51 <arch> let me slant the tracks a bit and see if that does it
16:34:14 <arch> blah it's only gonna save me from 1 extra overhead, but the loss in track width is not worth it to me, because it's gonna be a pain to solder otherwise
16:36:49 <arch> ok, i'll take it. one less overhead, instead of 2, but no compromise in track width. win-win
16:37:00 <arch> don't want to reduce track width to .75

16:56:02 <arch> i mean the og design doesn't even have proper ground planes. it's just all floating lol

18:07:58 <steve30> Its always interesting to come across websites where someone appears to be paying for a domain but the site there hasn't been updated in many years.
18:08:20 <T3sl4> domains are fairly cheap
18:08:27 <steve30> I came across this one a while back and just followed a link to it again just now. It hasn't been updated since 2002.

18:10:17 <T3sl4> but yeah that's a site optimized for 640x480 no doubt about it
18:13:14 <steve30> Another funny one is when you go to a site that has a placeholder saying "This site has moved to...." and the redirect gives either 404 or NXDOMAIN
