00:14:33 <steve30> hehe, i read about him the other day. He's cute
00:14:40 <Halcyon> Yeh he is
00:14:47 <Halcyon> Totally my type
00:14:51 <Halcyon> I like nerdy guys :P

00:18:24 * steve30 has just been climbed up a ladder outside attempting to solder wire
00:34:25 <steve30> I should probably get some small project boxes
00:58:20 <rust_collector> that is the sort of thing I usually think of when I am soldering things up in a ladder
01:00:45 <K> i think i've never soldered on a ladder
01:02:00 <rust_collector> I do not think I have either. I have been welding a lot in ladders
01:05:56 <K> haven't welded at all
01:06:04 <steve30> Well, that's a cable installed for my energy monitor project
01:14:45 <rust_collector> that sounds pretty nerdy
01:15:45 <rust_collector> My mower is dead. which is weird, as it does not have many hours on it
01:21:26 <K> it just couldn't take it anymore
01:47:52 <coppice_> rust_collector: SNAP. I bought a new mower this very afternoon

02:02:49 <coppice_> DHess_US: trying to put a spin on the applications for lathes?
02:08:18 <DHess_US> I used a chisel to open a can once.
02:10:17 <DHess_US> https://i.imgur.com/JaXCfpw.png
02:45:17 <rust_collector> except for riding it to town, I don't think there is much you can not do with a lathe.
02:48:48 <coppice_> DHess_US chiselling out the lid must be about the commonest non-standard method around
02:49:50 <rust_collector> I am wondering if I should get one more gas mower, or get an electric piece of junk. My lawn is not very big
02:50:29 <rust_collector> ooorrrr... maybe I can talk the wife into buying a lathe, then I can just fix the old one
02:50:32 <rust_collector> YAY!
02:50:49 <coppice_> I went for another gas powered mower, although our neighbour seems pretty happy with his Bosch battery powered one
02:51:27 <rust_collector> I am not getting a battery one, but I am sort of leaning to the gas side
02:52:50 <rust_collector> heh, a gas turbine mower would be awesome. mmmmmmuuuuuuuUUUUUUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!!!
02:53:12 <coppice_> the place I bought mine from has lots of the big ones that are more like small tractors. they look like fun
02:53:42 <rust_collector> yeah, a riding mower is nice, just add a trailer, and go to the store
02:53:48 <DHess_US> rust_collector, plug in electric mowers if you can find one are actually very good.
02:53:57 <DHess_US> The cordless ones are junk though.
02:54:42 <DHess_US> My mower finally rusted out last year so I am mowerless.
02:54:49 <rust_collector> yea, I don't have much against those on a leash, There are some good battery ones too, but I don't want to take care of one more set of batteries
02:54:55 <DHess_US> I still have a corded electric one though if I need it.
02:55:19 <DHess_US> The corded ones are lighter, run forever, and less expensive.
02:55:27 <rust_collector> yea
02:55:39 <DHess_US> If you can find one. I'm not sure anybody makes one anymore.
02:55:46 <rust_collector> oh, they do
02:56:17 <rust_collector> I bought one just a month or so ago, but that is a little bit too small here
02:56:18 <coppice_> corded ones are available. the stores just like to push battery ones, because they make more from them
02:57:42 <rust_collector> oh well, so now I have 2 mowers, half a snow blower, a bicycle, and some random small engines and crap on the trailer. And I did 3 trips to the "recycling" place on monday
02:57:53 <rust_collector> it never ends
02:59:09 <rust_collector> The other half of that snow blower will be part of my little tractor. the blower part, and the drive part is crap, but the engine seems to be pretty good
02:59:24 <coppice_> DHess_US: rusting mowers are a huge pain. the new mower I bought today replaces a 1980s one with a plastic chassis. I doubt a metal chassis one would have lasted that long
02:59:28 <DHess_US> I just fixed the deadbolt on my rear door. It was never installed correctly but now it is.
02:59:54 <coppice_> so its finally dead?
02:59:55 <DHess_US> I should have taken a before picture.
03:00:08 <DHess_US> The lockplate was surface mounted for some reason.
03:00:12 <rust_collector> fancy. we almost never even close the door. except when it is cold
03:00:13 <DHess_US> It wasn't inletted.
