03:31:09 <K> you came back!
03:31:26 <rust_collector> it happens...
03:31:45 <rust_collector> so, consider uk bombed. just remember you asked for it
03:34:23 <K> dang.
03:35:07 <rust_collector> hope your friend is happy, it is weekend, after all
03:35:47 <K> oh well.
03:47:54 <xstevia> Lol, so the stop bombing iran attracted a counter protest of Trump supporting Iranians

04:00:26 <Kuschelpony> eh seriously, noone had the idea to wind a compact electromagnet from foil before? https://phys.org/news/2026-03-palm-sized-superconducting-magnet-tesla.html

07:08:27 <rust_collector> I wonder how special people are, when they log the hours they use their mowers, and when they change the plug(s) and such.
07:09:24 <K> i wonder how spherical people are.
07:10:12 <rust_collector> that depends on how good you are with geometry and math. In my opinion, people average out to be spheres
07:13:09 <K> i'd like to see some empirical data before having concrete opinion on this
07:15:09 <rust_collector> that is ok, you go look
09:17:04 <arch> rust_collector, i think my flathead engine on my generator might need to get valves lapped. so when it's idle, unloaded, purrs like a kitten, 3700RPM. as i gradually start putting load on it, it bogs down to something like 3300RPM. 4000W generator, but i was putting 2800W load on it with 2 space heaters.

09:22:16 <arch> good stuff. gonna mess with it later
09:24:49 <arch> oh another thing i noticed: my freshly cleaned muffler which was greyish metal, now has shiny colorful blue heat marks. im not sure if that confirms if the exhaust valve seat has depressed enough to let unburnt fuel get out
09:37:49 * K places a jar or strawbery jam on arches flat head.
10:17:36 * T3sl4 shims arch's valve, runs away
10:21:05 <K> arch likes it.
10:52:42 <rc-garage> I dont think it is the valves, but... have you adjusted them? but mixture does a lot to exhaust temp, and...stuff. weird rpms, I would maybe see if the governor spring is getting weak, and that that whole system moves properly and so on, before believing that I need to lap valves... but, sure that is not impossible, but being a flathead, just take the head off, and turn it to the valve is open, and see what the seat looks like?
11:02:05 <rc-garage> if it is valves, it can not be too far off, as it idles nice. so you might get away with just setting the clearance, and not lapping the seats and valves. but if it has been running for some time, with a tight valve, the seat will probably be burnt, and the valve can be cracked, but then it probably wont idle very well
11:02:44 <rc-garage> otoh, it is not a big job, and you are halfway there already, so maybe you might as well
