00:52:45 <arch> electrohead, i found an antenna rotator controller gizmo: https://www.w2aee.columbia.edu/sites/www.w2aee.columbia.edu/files/content/manuals/T2X_T2XX.pdf
00:53:37 <electrohead> only the controller, or do you have the rotator as well?
00:53:46 <arch> i for one am against the idea of erecting a ginormous antenna in my backyard, so i probably don't care for this gadget. if you want, i can ship it to ya. i do not have the rotator

01:35:26 <electrohead> without the rotator, that's pretty useless lol
02:16:17 <arch> ahh ok, so ill scrap it for parts and keep the case. it's a pretty nice case, with pretty nice, clicky switches

03:36:57 <electrohead> have a decent place to mount the antenna, or just going to wing it?
03:37:25 <arch> its on my picnic table lol
03:38:11 <K> electrohead - no card yet?
03:39:55 <electrohead> nope :/
03:40:31 <electrohead> arch: lol, well that's a half wave antenna I think? should be good enough being outside, to pick up at least something
03:41:24 <arch> electrohead, there's NY state troopers literally like 1 mile down the road from me, so i think i should be good even inside the house
03:42:39 <electrohead> I don't think they use CB radio whatsoever, unless maybe talking to truckers?

09:17:08 <MrMobodies> Now again I do a searh on my names
09:17:22 <MrMobodies> I don't think Google likes me anymore.
09:18:16 <MrMobodies> search for MrMobodies Mr Mobodies with or without quotes or quotes with plus and it brings up MrNobodies, unless I exclude that.
09:19:17 <MrMobodies> but if I put "Mr eobodies"

09:20:06 <MrMobodies> I comment on forums now and again especially about web design and sometimes use to it to find replies.
09:20:50 <MrMobodies> Maybe I upset them with some recent feedback.
09:22:06 <MrMobodies> This works +"MrMobodies" -"Mr.Nobodies"

11:18:49 <arch> T3sl4, or electrohead, have either of you used the STUSB4500 for USB-C sink applications?
11:19:10 <arch> im trying to find the default settings for it, but having trouble finding it
11:19:21 <T3sl4> shrug
11:22:09 <arch> fucks sake... "
11:22:09 <arch> STUSB4500 or the Cypress BCR are my go-to devices for simple projects. BCR is resistor configured, ST is configured via I2C into an internal EEPROM."
11:22:45 <arch> so i need to swap that section with the STUSB4500 i put in my project
11:22:59 <arch> im not gonna waste my time i2c programming a stupid power sink ic
11:23:37 <T3sl4> i have a power supply here with two I2C programmed controllers
11:23:45 <arch> " Cypress/Infineon EZ-PD BCR is super easy and resistor programmed. "
11:23:51 <T3sl4> fortunately the provided adapter has isolation
11:24:31 <arch> and do you have a favorable view of that psu?
11:25:06 <T3sl4> i don't have to poke it more than once, then let production figure it out
11:27:31 <arch> o nice, $2/pop in singles; $14.85 for 10 qty, for that CYPD3177-24LQXQ. i need to get me some of those

13:01:38 <arch> what could cause a power supply's rail voltage to go _up_ when the PSU switch is flipped off? i hear a slowly increasing whine upon shutdown. this is for my ibm5150 psu
13:02:01 <T3sl4> whine is not voltage?
13:02:19 <arch> so like the 5V rail is normally 5.2V under minimum load, but with no load, it's 5.5V. when i shut it down with no load attached, i see the 5V rail climb to a smidge over 6V
13:03:03 <arch> as the psu is shutting down, the voltage climbs, simultaneously with a "eeeEEEEE" whine until it reaches 6V, then the rail drops
13:03:11 <T3sl4> shrug, doesn't really mean anything unloaded
13:03:29 <arch> hm, ok i will put a 5W dummy resistor load on the 5V rail and see what happens
13:04:29 <T3sl4> it may be a self-oscillating type where pulse width depends on voltage (e.g. saturating core commutation)
13:04:46 <arch> once i get the motherboard fixed, i dont wanna blow it cuz of a stupid psu. i can probably hack in a better psu for it, or use a PFC pico smps with a DC adapter
13:05:07 <arch> purists would probably call me a heretic
13:05:17 <arch> how dare i replace the OEM ibm psu lol
13:06:00 <T3sl4> i'm sure it's fine, give or take cap reforming

13:07:08 <EEVBot> > }
13:09:43 <arch> im gonna open up the psu to make sure i don't see any busted/leaky caps anyway. that's after i get the motherboard working first. i can get it running with my bench psu for sanity test first
13:10:57 <T3sl4> normally you want some dummy load on both 5 and 12, and the -V's are probably regulated anyway so doesn't matter about them
13:11:14 <T3sl4> you'll see pretty quickly what the deal is, if it's shared inductors or independent voltages or what
13:12:13 <arch> yup you're right about the negative rail, which -5V is provided by IC. -12V is rough regulated via trafo https://techmattmillman.s3.dualstack.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/5150_PSU.png

15:00:32 <Halcyon> Hey question for all you nerds....
15:03:01 <Halcyon> I'm writing a submission for the licensing rules review for .au namespace and one of the contested items is this: In 2022, ".au" became registrable (in addition to .com.au, .net.au, .org.au etc...). When that happened, organisations with existing .com.au etc... domains were given the opportunity to apply for a .au domain.
15:03:55 <Halcyon> Where there was more than one applicant for the same .au, it basically goes into an indefinite hold period until all but one registrant have withdrawn their applications. Until that happens, the domain doesn't get allocated.
15:04:39 <Halcyon> I'm proposing they scrap that and develop a solution that has some kind of outcome at the end of the day. I don't agree with an "auction" style thing as the organisation with the most money will win by default.
15:04:56 <Halcyon> How would you guys resolve disputed domains like this?
15:05:29 <Halcyon> I'm kind of leaning towards, if they can't resolve it among themselves within, say 12 months, then whoever had the older .com.au, .edu.au, .org.au etc... domain, wins by defaut.
15:05:29 <steve30> Maybe give the owner of the existing one first dibs then put it up for sale like any other?
15:05:41 <Halcyon> Well .au didn't exist before this.
15:06:15 <Halcyon> So lets say you have bobsfruit.com.au and jimsfruit.com.au, and both want fruit.au, how do you resolve it if they can't resolve it themselves?
15:10:05 Quit: Nothing\ ([email protected]) Quit: Leaving
15:10:53 <electrohead> After 90 days unresolved, boxing gloves get mailed to each party involved, along with a date, time, and address where to meet
15:10:55 <electrohead> lol
15:11:01 <Halcyon> Hahaha
15:11:18 <electrohead> > So lets say you have bobsfruit.com.au and jimsfruit.com.au
15:11:33 <electrohead> So bob gets bobsfruit, and jim gets jimsfruit?
15:11:57 <Halcyon> But that's not what they are asking for, they want fruit.au
15:12:12 <steve30> first come first serve?
15:12:15 <Halcyon> Which under the rules, would be allowed, because it's a direct connection to their business.
15:12:33 <Halcyon> I thought about that too Steve, but I think it's a little unfair just because someone got in first.
15:13:05 <steve30> but isn't is first come first serve for bobsfruit.com.au?
15:13:13 <Halcyon> But then does that "first" go back to their original (old) domain name date? That would probably be the fairest outcome?
15:13:20 <Halcyon> Someone who has been in business longer kind of thing
15:13:27 <Halcyon> steve30: It is
15:13:49 <steve30> e.g. if I moved to aus, set up a grocery called Bob's Fruit Shop and wanted, bobsfruit.com.au, I can't have it because the other bob got their first
15:13:55 <Halcyon> But the argument is, this is entirely new namespace, so why should an already established business miss out
15:14:35 <Halcyon> And this is the discussion Steve, what's a "fair" resolution? They have over 3000 domains still in contention.
15:14:50 <Halcyon> In one example, there are 4 organisations wanting the one domain
15:16:03 <steve30> But Steve's fruit might also want fruit.au, and the Australian Fruit Appreciation Society might also want it.
15:17:00 <steve30> I don't really see any issue with the existing first come first serve arrangement, especially when its for generic words like "fruit"
15:17:12 <Halcyon> Yeah exactly
15:17:13 <steve30> ("bobs fruit" could be a trademark issue etc)
15:18:13 <Halcyon> My view is, give them 12 months to sort their shit out, make each other offers etc... whatever, after that, it goes to a tie-breaker, which .com.au domain is the oldest, then it goes to that organisation.
15:18:43 <Halcyon> Just trying to think if there would be any exceptions that might need to be considered.

23:39:48 <Nothing\> how'sit?
23:40:15 <Nothing\> any news
23:43:22 <Ampera> Nothing\, I'm doing pretty ok
23:43:25 <Ampera> got some new boots I really like
23:45:05 <Nothing\> more? I coulda swore you mentioned this before. Maybe I'm imagining things. I seem to recall a grey/blue color?
23:45:21 <Ampera> I have 4 pairs of boots right now
23:45:39 <Ampera> https://cloud.systemtheta.net/s/p7T6HpXmciCz9qx/preview
23:45:42 <Ampera> these are what I am wearing today
23:45:57 <Nothing\> lol i was just gonna say, although the idea of a woman owning multiple pairs of any type of footwear isn't much of a stretch
23:46:04 <Ampera> I have a grey pair that was the first I got this season, a black pair of stiletto heels, and some white platforms
23:46:15 <Ampera> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
23:46:19 <Ampera> I like shoes, I buy cheap ones
23:46:23 <Nothing\> hehe
23:46:31 <Ampera> I like clothes in general
23:46:42 <Nothing\> not me, too much choice. It paralyzes me.
23:46:46 <Ampera> for most of my life I only ever had one pair of shoes, and they were just there to keep my foot from touching shit.
23:47:33 <Nothing\> I used to wear a lot of button up shirts, but they all disintegrated with how long I milked them for. I just have one black shirt with a plaid pattern that's paper thin. You can see right through it.
23:47:47 <Nothing\> So, now I just wear band t-shirts
23:47:56 <Nothing\> pink floyd, rolling stones, beatles
23:48:19 <Nothing\> they're cheap, and stylish and i like expressing myself with them
23:48:53 <Nothing\> plus it's always nice to get someone who compliments my pink floyd shirt. DSotM baby.
23:49:20 <Nothing\> and then my only pair of pants, which is literally all I need
23:49:50 <Nothing\> i own 1 pain of pants, 3 t-shirts and a light, zip-up hoodie. That's it.
23:50:47 <Nothing\> i only leave the house for literally 30 minutes every 2 weeks. So, I can make a set of clothes last me months without washing as long as I hang it up proper afterwards and don't leave it as a pile
23:51:04 <Nothing\> and i'll still have worn it less than most people wear an outfit in one day
23:51:30 <Nothing\> rest of the time i'm just chilling in my boxers. Frankly, I hate clothes. They feel gross and constrictive.
23:51:42 <Nothing\> I'd go fully nude if i lived alone and had curtains
23:52:13 <Nothing\> it's how i sleep. I crank the heat in my room to 28c and just sleep nude without blankets
23:52:51 <Nothing\> i get my humidier cranked to 80-90% humidity. I like to pretend I live in the jungle or rain forest
23:59:44 <Nothing\> heh i figured a way to use a magnet, plastic bottle lid, and tube from a dismantled pen to balance the nickle on its side and blow on it though the pen lid. I measured the frequency of the sound at 200hz, which put it at a rotational speed of 6,000rpm. Lol it buffed smooth spots into the plastic.
