01:58:19 <arch> i misread that as "horny church car parks to close". i need jesus...
02:02:55 * Ampera mounts horns on arch's forehead
04:05:07 <arch> ow! that's pointy! are you trying to be vlad the kinky heels impaler?

04:11:24 <arch> buying gf, 10k
04:11:52 <arch> thanks to rampant inflation, both irl and runescape, i think it's more like 100k these days
04:20:19 <MrMobodies> Never played it but looking for the pictures and the graphics seems to look good
04:20:21 <MrMobodies> https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/976/cpsprodpb/f0da/live/7ebb5500-e561-11f0-baf8-492205ca0c9f.jpg.webp
04:25:44 <K> i've been playing same game for like 15 years now
04:26:20 <K> mmorpgs never tickled my fancy though
04:29:00 <MrMobodies> My favourite one is Unrealtournament (1999)
04:29:08 <MrMobodies> in turbo mode
04:29:16 <MrMobodies> I just like how I can move around quickly
04:29:41 <MrMobodies> the later ones seem a bit slower with movement
04:30:02 <MrMobodies> Unfortunately I can see I was not a very good player.
04:30:43 <MrMobodies> When I win I use to get told by many players that I was "camping" and that is what I use to do.
04:46:17 <Kuschelpony> friendlywhinny
04:48:54 <arch> Kuschelpony, i have received my IBM 5150 yesterday, and discovered the motherboard has a short. so i will be troubleshooting that today hopefully
04:49:03 <Kuschelpony> nice
04:49:06 <arch> would be nice if it was just some stupid tantalum capacitor that is shorted
04:49:41 <arch> the PSU itself is fine, though i find it inadequate. i will likely craft my own DC-DC smps for it, likely using SEPIC topology, so i can use anywhere from 12V to 24V adapters
04:51:01 <arch> technically i could use only buck regulators, but buck regulator failure mode is pretty crap if the switch dies. sepic at least offers much more protection.
04:51:57 <MrMobodies> Any MCA cards in it?
04:52:19 <Ampera> why would a 5150 have an MCA card in it...
04:52:23 <MrMobodies> or is it ISA
04:52:29 <Ampera> technically it's not ISA either
04:52:31 <Ampera> it's the PC bus

04:56:23 <MrMobodies> unless I am looking at the wrong thing
04:58:03 <MrMobodies> ahh that one was before and discontinued when MCA was introduced in 1987
04:58:59 <MrMobodies> I have an 8595 in sitting i garage doing nothing if anyone wants it.
04:59:31 <MrMobodies> picked up down Chesterfield bootsale in 2001 for £4
04:59:57 <MrMobodies> but only has 16mb of ram in there
05:00:46 <MrMobodies> if one of you live in England welcome to take it for free. Better used than sitting there.
05:01:54 <MrMobodies> It also as a 100mbps 3com network card in there and 2? scsi 4gb drives i put in there.

05:42:46 <MrMobodies> I have a food question, who hates mushy sausages?
05:43:41 <MrMobodies> (Sausage that look the part after cooking but mushes into a paste as soon as the knife goes into it.)
05:52:14 <K> that sounds like something un-edible

05:56:57 <MrMobodies> I kept on asking my mum not to buy sausages where they put things in it
05:57:12 <MrMobodies> well if she does don't cook it for me
05:57:54 <MrMobodies> I remembered like 10 years ago I'd get apple filling suasages from a farm but they just don't mush like that

06:00:06 <MrMobodies> now this one made me furious, it was suppose to be the biggest part of the meal
06:00:14 <MrMobodies> when I put some other stuff on the rest went cold
06:00:28 <MrMobodies> they said to me there's nothing wrong with it
06:00:49 <MrMobodies> until 2 days later when they had it that they agreed it was horrible, like paste
06:01:00 <MrMobodies> in fact that one is a lot worse than the Duchy's
06:02:40 <MrMobodies> so I said please find 100% meat sausages to stop them doing that. I think they maybe varying the mixture too much to cut back on meat hence for the soft paste and grainy taste..
06:03:27 <MrMobodies> I mean it's deceptive, it looks like a sausage but its no longer once where it muches into paste.
06:04:39 <MrMobodies> in the late, I didn't like the supermarket sausages, they tastes to me grainy and horrible but they didn't mush like that. Now it seems Duchy is doing it and the farms through mixing things into it.
06:04:45 <MrMobodies> oops late 2000's
06:05:25 <MrMobodies> What do you think of those sausages?
06:24:16 <arch> pretty cool site https://www.worldphaco.com/
06:24:17 <EEVBot> [url] Dr Holdens Electronics Webpage | www.worldphaco.com
06:37:39 <MrMobodies> that's nice lots of repair things and schematics
06:37:47 <MrMobodies> I just took this off a Keene IR everywhere
06:37:58 <MrMobodies> it was just the connector and dc jack corroded
06:38:06 <MrMobodies> https://i.postimg.cc/VNrbnMWs/IMG-20260106-193818.jpg

06:38:14 <MrMobodies> Unfortunately I do not have another jack
06:38:34 <MrMobodies> Do you think I should give those a go with the alcohol or vinegar?
07:04:16 <arch> ok update on ye olde' ibm 5150. it would seem the PSU itself is faulty. when i feed 5V current limited to 1A through my bench psu, i can see it's trying to "compute", the needle swings around a bit from ~0.8A to 0.9A, and this shows up on the analog dial
07:08:16 <T3sl4> MrMobodies: worst thing i had along those lines, a common cheap brand of chorizo. despite the amount of spices (deep red color) it was surprisingly bland besides
07:08:50 <arch> so what i think i'll do is...ditch the old psu altogether, and craft up a LM3478 based psu for it. primary output rail will be 12VDC, then i can take the negative and lower voltage rails with buck regs like the TPS562201
07:09:16 <arch> i can keep the big red switch and use that as the enable switch for the "EN" pins
07:09:51 <arch> or if im feeling particularly lazy, i'll grab a meanwell 12v output psu off digikey and work from there
07:12:16 <K> old psu is not fixable?
07:14:30 <rust_collector> uh, what happens, if you do not limit it to 1a?
07:14:40 <arch> it probably is? but it's not the most efficient. doubly so for the ibm 5151 crt monitor psu
07:15:16 <rust_collector> if you want efficiency, why are you using an ibm anything?
07:15:18 <arch> rust_collector, i limited it to 1A so i don't burn up a trace. if i remove the 1A limit (most my bench psu can output is 2A), it is fine and happy
07:15:36 <arch> it doesn't use 1A is what i'm trying to say, on the 5V supply
07:16:07 <arch> what im saying is the OG psu cannot output higher currents on 5V rail without crapping itself and cycling on and off. probably leaky caps who knows. gonna open it up now actually
07:16:38 <K> caps would be my first guess
07:16:46 <K> both in psu and on mainboard
07:17:00 <rust_collector> BOTH IN PSU AND MAINBOARD
07:17:00 <arch> yeap, stay tuned. gonna open it up. mainboard uses tantalum caps mostly. not very many electrolytics
07:17:29 <K> BOTH
07:17:43 <rust_collector> all caps, ho ho ho ho
07:17:56 <T3sl4> tants are fine (until they explode)
07:18:03 <K> as youngsters these day say - no cap!
07:20:42 * arch locks up K in the closet for that brainrot
07:21:02 * T3sl4 pops an electrolytic in arch's azz

11:41:03 <arch> hi hi
11:41:17 <Ampera> beep
11:41:19 <Ampera> hi arch
11:41:23 <Ampera> how ya doin
11:41:25 <arch> hi Ampera. hows first week of work?
11:41:50 <arch> eh im trying to find a short on this IBM 5150 i bought because of Steins;Gate
11:42:15 <arch> there's a short on the motherboard 5V rail. thank goodness i have a thermal vision camera
11:42:27 <arch> im gonna put 100mA 5V current limited on the 5V rail and see what heats up
11:42:51 <Ampera> week just started lol
11:43:03 <Ampera> arch, why'd you get one because of steins;gate
11:43:08 <Ampera> it had a 5100, not a 5150 iirc
11:43:20 <arch> ya, but i couldnt find a 5100...also it most likely would cost a fortune
11:43:29 <arch> 5150 is close enough for me lol
11:43:52 <Ampera> I did work on my car this weekend

11:44:04 <Ampera> new rear brakes and a new stud
11:44:04 <arch> what was wrong with it
11:44:07 <arch> oo
11:44:50 <Ampera> When it's warmer I also need to look at what's up with the driver's rear caliper
11:45:00 <Ampera> since that was scraping, but all the other pads on the car were fine
11:45:04 <Ampera> so me thinks it's sticky
11:45:14 <Ampera> too dang cold to take it all apart though, and it'll pass inspection
11:48:40 <arch> is the wheel heating up on that one?
11:50:30 <Ampera> I doubt it
11:50:37 <Ampera> It's just wearing unevenly
11:50:45 <Ampera> since that pad should've been good for at least a year or two more
12:02:24 <arch> i am enjoying using my 2 stroke 5HP tecumseh snowblower
12:02:41 <arch> i wish i got one earlier lol. clean up my long driveway in a jiffy
12:03:33 <arch> and it's so super lightweight, 21 inch. i mean the only inconvenience is i have to mix 2 stroke oil, but who gives a shit. 1 gallon will last me the whole winter
12:05:08 <arch> T3sl4 is probably like: https://i.imgflip.com/1t5np8.jpg what with our < 12 inch snowfalls
12:06:18 <arch> we merely adopted the snow, T3sl4 was born in it, molded by it
12:07:13 <T3sl4> 5150? perfect, you can run 8088MPH
12:08:02 <arch> i see what you did there
12:08:23 <Ampera> and Area 5150
12:08:28 <Ampera> arch, you don't
