11:56:39 <j``> hi
11:56:53 <j``> anyone know how to setup ms sql for remote connections?
11:57:05 <j``> or why im getting a connection invalid/access denied
11:57:20 <j``> probably not the right place to ask but im about to shoot myself
11:57:32 <Longie> try telnetting to port 3306 and see if its open first
11:57:37 <Longie> there could be a million reasons :/
11:57:50 <Longie> could be you've allowed remote connections just not the right host?
11:57:58 <j``> yeah i know
11:58:12 <j``> i have a feeling its actually the third party software thats using the database
11:58:18 <Longie> oh ok
11:58:25 <Longie> its been a long time since I set it up :/
11:58:29 <j``> its horrid
11:58:59 <damian> heheahehaehehehaheahehahaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
11:59:22 <damian> mysql uses 3306
11:59:27 <j``> yeah i think its 1403
11:59:31 <j``> this is MS sql :(
11:59:34 <damian> mssql uses 1433 or something
11:59:37 <j``> yeah
11:59:39 <j``> 1433
11:59:41 <j``> sounds right
11:59:53 <Longie> I thought he said mysql :/
12:00:01 <damian> yeah, that's why you'll never amount to anything in this life.
12:00:07 <damian> :P
12:00:07 <Longie> its been even longer since I setup mssql
12:00:10 <Longie> so harsh :(
12:00:17 * Longie goes emo
12:00:19 <damian> haha
12:00:23 <damian> keep away from the sharps!
12:00:37 <j``> if i telnet ms sql am i meant to get some sort of response
12:00:40 <damian> j, check the service .. if it's running, it's right
12:00:50 <Longie> I'm old fashoined, I'll just smack my head against a wall
12:00:51 <j``> it just says could not open connection on port 1433: connect failed
12:01:16 <Carson> sounds like a firewall issue then
12:01:20 <Carson> or some other network like problem
12:01:26 <damian> not if it's on local machine
12:01:32 <Carson> however, you may not have configured mssql to listen on the external hosts
12:01:41 <Carson> I'm sure by default it listens on 127.0.0.1
12:01:48 <Carson> it may not bind to 0.0.0.0 though
12:01:52 <Carson> never installed mssql
12:01:59 <j``> i disabled windows firewall on both machines and enabled tcp in the protocols
12:02:00 <damian> it generally listens on everything
12:02:13 <Carson> if thats the case, then it'd be networky...
12:02:17 <damian> yeah
12:02:37 <damian> dude, on the machine it's running on .. is there the green play button on the system tray icon? :P
12:03:34 <j``> no, the service is running though if thats what you're asking
12:04:29 <damian> is there an icon?
12:05:18 <j``> no
12:05:32 <damian> well you suck
12:05:35 <damian> im going ot have a shower
12:06:51 <j``> yeah seems that way
13:23:16 <j``> hrm
13:23:37 <j``> figures
13:24:04 <j``> stupid 3rd party software only works with 2005 even tho they include 2008 on the disk
13:46:13 <Carson> id10t error i see
13:59:33 <j``> lol
13:59:41 <j``> that doesnt work as well in text
14:02:27 <Carson> yeah :)
