19:23:14 <aSH^> check out that sub
19:23:36 <aSH^> 15" driver, 1000watt amp
19:23:43 <stefan> oh yeah, did you get those RCA leads ash? about to get some myself similar to the ones I've got here
19:24:05 <aSH^> stef - i'm using digital from comp to amp now
19:24:14 <stefan> ah cool
19:24:30 <stefan> not using any other sources?
19:24:43 <aSH^> nah just comp
19:24:58 <JarZ> oh, what amp did you get?
19:24:59 <aSH^> i need to get a decent rca cable for the digital though cos i've had a few random dropouts
19:25:14 <aSH^> just a cheap pioneer ht receiver
19:25:15 <stefan> ah, just spdif?
19:25:17 <aSH^> it sounds awesome though
19:25:18 <aSH^> does the just
19:25:20 <aSH^> yeah spdif
19:25:23 <aSH^> just=jo
19:25:24 <aSH^> b
19:25:58 <aSH^> my sub is pretty awesome though
19:26:01 <aSH^> i should take a pic :p
19:26:38 <stefan> yeah, just thought a good amp would probably do optical too, not there's really any difference
19:27:07 <aSH^> yeah it does optical
19:27:34 <aSH^> atm i'm using rca
19:27:38 <aSH^> optical cables seem pretty overpriced
19:28:08 <stefan> 1m $20 2m $30 retail
19:28:17 <aSH^> where's that from?
19:28:30 <stefan> distributor I'm just about to order with
19:28:35 <stefan> not sure on our sale, haven't logged in yet
19:28:42 <aSH^> what about 3M optical
19:29:19 <stefan> nope :\
19:31:01 <aSH^> im using a dodgy cheap rca lead for the spdif cos i thought it wouldn't matter, but its such high bandwidth that interference can sometimes cause corruption in the signal
19:31:17 <aSH^> thats my theory anyway, unless its my comp or amp
19:35:12 <aSH^> it was running right by a power cable so i moved it and am getting much less errors now
19:35:28 <aSH^> so i think a decently shielded cable or optical would make it fine
19:37:09 <stefan> there's a nice 1.5m RCA lead, but the others don't seem to be that well shielded
19:37:43 <aSH^> atm i need about 3m from comp to amp
19:38:56 <aSH^> http://support.netspot.com.au/ash/stereo.jpg
19:39:06 <aSH^> ignore the random ugly image on the screen.. that's tv tuner :P
19:39:11 <aSH^> how massive is the sub :P
19:39:49 <aSH^> and yeah i'll be re-positioning the sub soon cos i know that placement is not ideal
19:39:59 <stefan> nice
19:40:23 <aSH^> those speakers + sub were $500 new from trustcoss, mostly cos they screwed up
19:40:30 <aSH^> trustcott
19:59:46 <aSH^> haha
20:00:17 <aSH^> i just found that the problem with the spdif dropout occurs when i switch lights on/off
20:00:24 <aSH^> its gotta be interference
20:00:46 <stefan> hah
20:01:08 <stefan> get a ups? :P
20:01:23 <aSH^> thats crazy, its even with lights on the other side of the house
20:01:29 <aSH^> so its something electrical..wtf?
20:01:31 <stefan> I'm about to order myself a liebert, had 4x <30s blackouts in 24 hours, getting sick of it
20:01:49 <aSH^> when i swtich the light on/off there's a split second dropout of sound
20:03:03 <JarZ> lol
20:03:13 <aSH^> only with digital too
20:03:16 <JarZ> your house's power system isn't powerful enough for your stereo equipment?
20:04:03 <stefan> it's interference, but that shouldn't happen if they're on seperate circuits
20:04:10 <aSH^> i don't think so cos i'm only playing it down low and it still happens
20:04:17 <aSH^> maybe its some kind of grounding issue
20:04:49 <aSH^> do you reckon its some slight spike/sag of power and the spdif is really sensitive to that or something?
20:04:49 <stefan> yeah, was wondering if a ground loop isolator would do anything, but that's for ground loop hum, and shouldn't be an issue with digital..
20:04:52 <aSH^> cos with analog i don't have an issue
20:05:22 <stefan> not one that you notice
20:05:49 <aSH^> yeah
20:05:54 <aSH^> hmm i guess optical will solve the prob
20:06:06 <aSH^> a good use for optical! :p
20:06:14 <stefan> yeah, probably the best idea
20:06:38 <aSH^> ups is also good
20:06:45 * aSH^ looks up liebert
20:09:49 <aSH^> oh also stef, do you know of any good music that has really high quality recording?
20:09:55 <aSH^> i wanna listed to some nice quality stuff on my system
20:11:50 <stefan> as in quality of the music, not trying to get anything beyond cd quality?
20:11:52 <aSH^> i downloaded a remastered miles davis cd, and also the dark side of the moon sacd and both are excellent qulaity
20:12:19 <stefan> I've got some flacs of some nice clean recordings here
20:12:50 <aSH^> yeah i mean like quality mics and good sound engineers and stuff to create a nice stereo image
20:13:17 <stefan> http://www.stefan.id.au/idea/ is an a capalla jazz quartet, if you like the mp3s, I can send you the flacs
20:13:32 <stefan> I've got all 4 or 5 of their cds
20:13:40 <aSH^> nice, ill check it out, ta
20:13:49 <stefan> trying to work out what goose track would be best
20:14:01 <stefan> they're a funk band, often play at the gov
20:14:32 <stefan> well this is the one I like anyway
20:14:54 <stefan> bit slow, seeding a fair bit too :P
20:15:32 <stefan> www.* however is on an agile STM-1 :)
20:17:24 <stefan> those 3 are goose, www.goose.com.au
20:17:34 <stefan> idea of north is www.idea.com.au
20:17:37 <aSH^> wow that's some awesome singing
20:17:53 <stefan> yeah, they're great
20:17:55 <stefan> they're at the gov soonish too
20:17:57 <aSH^> also those files downloaded faster than i could do right click/save as on them all :p
20:18:07 <stefan> yeah :)
20:18:26 <stefan> mm
20:18:27 <stefan> ADELAIDE:
20:18:27 <stefan> Sunday 28 th January
20:18:46 <aSH^> did you do that recording?
20:19:42 <stefan> haha, no, these are all professional
20:19:48 <stefan> idea of north is now signed by the abc
20:20:29 <stefan> not many of the boys' vocal cd tracks are clean unfortunately
20:21:54 <stefan> heh, I've got over a gig of idea flacs
20:22:06 <stefan> glu's recordings weren't half bad either
20:22:54 <stefan> ohhhh, I just realised something
20:23:03 <stefan> I backed up the flacs to the webserver a while back :)
20:23:04 <stefan> give us your ip
20:25:02 <aSH^> 121.44.66.77
20:25:39 <stefan> http://www.stefan.id.au/recordings/ just got to fix the permissions
20:27:29 <stefan> oh, it's only glu up there
20:27:43 <stefan> that'd be useful anyway, the rest are dodgy recordings of europe etc
20:28:27 <aSH^> from the listening i've done, it seems like the quality of the production is one of the most important things over speakers, source bitrate etc, for fidelity
20:28:41 <stefan> yeah
20:29:26 <stefan> you have auto accept yeah?
20:29:31 <aSH^> yup
20:29:43 <stefan> if you don't have these already, your subwoofa may appreciate them
20:29:57 <aSH^> wicked :>
20:30:33 <aSH^> haha
20:30:56 <aSH^> < 30hz really puts my sub to shame
20:31:01 <stefan> most of them sound pretty lame, but still good for testing
20:31:11 <stefan> I don't need a sub, these old speakers fucking rock
20:31:26 <stefan> with loudness on you don't need anything else
20:32:04 <stefan> hah, these 3 are all the same length, whoops
20:34:27 <aSH^> what speakers you got?
20:35:01 <stefan> an old PYE amp/speakers we picked up from the side of the road, would have been made in the 60s
20:35:45 <stefan> playing Bass Test - 360 Hz - 10 Hz Silicon Sound System (0:58/1:58) [128Kbps/44Khz]
20:35:48 <stefan> is the most useful of them
20:35:58 <stefan> goes down by 10hz
20:36:26 <aSH^> i can't wait to hear this chemical bros track
20:46:06 <stefan> don't know if you ever played the original, but these always sounds good
20:46:45 <stefan> got 22 tracks from the original C&C
20:46:59 <stefan> may be mp3, but 256kbit at least
