we have recently suffered Distributed Denial of Service Attacks (DDoS) which increases netsplits and degrades performance of the IRC servers – this in the majority of cases is the reason why you will experience delay, netsplits or loss of connection with our network. this results from several known users launching attacks against our IRC servers; we are currently working with the Australian High Tech Crime Centre (AHTCC), a division of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), NSW Police E-Crime Unit, Queensland Police Computer Crime Investigation Unit (CGIU), South Australia Police Electronic Crime Section (ECS), Western Australia Police Computer Crime Investigation Team and the Victorian Computer Crime Squad to bring such users to court and criminal punishment, as this activity is illegal and now monitored by the majority of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) around the country and world.
moreover, we are also working very closely with major service providers to trace the origins of DDoS attacks using packet capturing and filtering on their core routers for users launching such attacks. check out the law’s latest catch on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EryVTX6w3I
