Austnet welcomes applications from suitable servers. For specifications required, routing policy and an application form, please visit the Austnet Server Application Centre.

AustNet has servers strategically placed to provide coverage to nearly all countries worldwide. To obtain the best connection, you should generally find the closest server to you and connect to it using your IRC client of choice.


Freeze on Server Applications
Due to large network maintenance at the moment, AustNet wishes to advise all potential server administrators and contributors that all new and pending server applications have been placed on hold.

Once network administrative activity quietens down, we will begin processing applications again.

If you are interested in linking a server to AustNet; please check this website regularly for updates on the situation.

New Jersey Institute of Technology Permlinked
Once again this month, AustNet has expanded connectivity with the permlink status of njit.nj.us.austnet.org announced yesterday.
The New Jersey Institute of Technology server (Admin by Hawkon) has been undergoing a trial/test period for the last few months.

US clients located near New Jersey are encouraged to try this server by typing /server njit.austnet.org in the Status window of your IRC client.

New European Client Server
AustNet continues to improve global connectivity with the recent arrival of the new European server, paagrio.at.eu.austnet.org.

Paagrio, which is located in Austria, Europe has been undergoing a trial/test period for quite some time now, and was awarded a permlink status earlier this month.

European AustNet users are encouraged to try this server for a faster, more local connection to AustNet by typing /server paagrio.austnet.org in the Status window of your IRC client.

AustNet improves global connectivity
AU client server comcen.nsw.au.* is now open to global traffic once again, to improve and make connecting to AustNet easier.
We would also like to announce and welcome new testlink server njit.nj.us.austnet.org (New Jersey Institute of Technology).

New testlinked server and return of bohica.*
AUSTnet is pleased to announce the return of servers from upgrade status (bohica.tx.us.austnet.org) and to announce the testlink of frankfurt.de.eu.austnet.org (82.96.75.58). These additions allow additional options for connecting clients and solve existing server problems. To connect to the testlinked server use /server 82.96.75.58 .

Server outages
We apologise to all clients currently experiencing difficulties connecting. A couple of our main client servers are currently being upgraded and should be back up ASAP. AustNet is also currently reviewing new ways of improving our service, and we look forward to implementing these ideas in the near future as well as expanding our network internationally to ensure easy connection to all 'corners' of the globe.

New server testlinked in US (raving.*)
Today the testlink of raving.ca.us.austnet.org began. This new server is located in San Diego, California USA. To try this server, simply connect by typing /server 216.55.137.16 - This server is only recommended to international clients (not in Australia).

Connectivity problems
As you may know, AustNet has been experiencing some difficulty in connection from international traffic such as from the US, and parts of Europe. This is due to a couple of our servers being down.
The situation seems to be stable now and all traffic should be able to connect to AustNet.
Australian clients, these are the recommended servers:
/server au.austnet.org
/server irc.pacific.net.au
/server irc.netspace.net.au
/server irc.netspace.net.au
/server comcen.austnet.org

US/Areas not covered:
/server us.austnet.org
/server bohica.austnet.org
/server irc.austnet.org

Singapore/Asian clients:
/server sg.austnet.org
/server pacific.sg.austnet.org

Server Connectivity Problems
Over the past 24-36 hours, AustNet has been experiencing technical problems which have meant some servers are not available, and users cannot connect to others on the normal addresses. AustNet suggests that users attempt to connect using the following addresses:
irc.netspace.com.au 6668
irc.pacific.net.au 6668
irc.iinet.net.au (WAIX clients only)
These technical problems should be resolved over the next 24 hours. Thank you for your patience in the meantime.

Swiftdsl.* testlink terminated
Swiftdsl.* (Swiftel) has officially delinked from AustNet. It's testlink was terminated tonight (10 Sept 03). We thank Swiftel and its administrator for their time and resources.
