Wallops-watchers were shocked this morning to be told that Austnet's
domain has expired and had been registered by someone in Kansas,
and that AustNet would be closing down in the next few days.
Luckily for all this was just Hawkon's April Fools day joke
:)

Austnet's project-orca.net
team is now ranked 60th with more than 9 millions keys and only
14 members. This is an increase of 10 places in just one week.

New Public Relations Discussion Mailing List

AustNet today launched a new mailing list for discussion related
to Public Relations. Anyone with ideas on raising the profile
of AustNet in a positive way, or who would like to give input,
can join the list by sending email to [email protected].

AustNet reaches 70th on project-orca.net
Some time in the past few days AustNet achieved a rank of 70
with 7,394,860 keys on project-orca. For those of you that aren't
aware, project
orca is the followup to project dolphin, a project whos
sole purpose is to count keystrokes of its participants.
On Project Dolphin the AustNet team reached a rank of 25, with
over 200 million keys in total. Project Orca is still in the
development phase but they have implemented some anti-cheating
features already .. hopefully with time we can surpass our old
stats for Project Dolphin! If you wish to join the austnet team

HERE and sign up for an account. Download the client from
the download page, login, go to your account then join/change
teams and select AustNet from the list.
Unfortunately
project-orca has not currently a linux client, or their statistics
engine fully implemented. Until this is done you can check your
teams total through the "your account" page. Congrats

AustNet 10th place on Netsplit.de
Netsplit.de
ranks IRC Networks based on a combination of factors including
average number of channels, average number of users and average
number of servers. Austnet last night reached number 10 on the
listing!
The netsplite.de website polls networks
every 3 or so hours. In the past few weeks AustNet has added
one server, and its peak has risen by almost 1000 users. This
is partially due to the misfortune which has befallen other
networks in the form of continuous DDoS attacks, and also due
to AustNets recent efforts to improve its public image. Congratulations
to AustNet on this achievement!

ended on the 17th of January. Shortly after, Project-orca
was created to follow in its footsteps. Feel free to join the

Dalnet under attack

The irc network Dalnet has been under continuous dDos attack
for the past few weeks. As a result, many users have been unable
to connect, and have explored alternative networks, including
AustNet. Many have decided to stay, and we have produced an
"ex-Dalnet user's guide" to help their transition
to AustNet.
